During VPC's Capital Campaign we'll take an excerpt from Pastor Joynt's daily devotional. It will be a call to action to listen, pray, or engage with A New Heart for the Valley. You can get your own daily devotional in each worship center or online: vpc.church/devotional. Devotional: Reinforced Hearts Why does John, our gospel’s author, tell us that the “doors of the house” where the disciples were meeting “were locked?” Jesus’ ministry was not a closed-door affair. It was conducted almost entirely in public, in the open. He was transparent about his true views, and his teaching in the temple and synagogue, on the hillside, and in the markets was consistent with what he told his inner circle of friends and disciples. He never propagated esoteric truths to an enlightened few. He occasionally healed in private settings, but generally his acts of power were before witnesses. Now his disciples have gone underground, into hiding, out of fear.
