FOCUS

Valley Presbyterian Church week of July 8, 2018

vpc.church/anewheart A New Heart for the Valley has received $7,000,000 in commitments from 190 families! Thank you. If you would like to join the momentum with a financial commitment please mail your pledge form, place it in an offering basket during worship, or make a commitment online: vpc.church/anewheart. Pledges are payable over three years and help the building committee know how to budget for the construction process. More Frequently Asked Questions… What are the advantages of moving youth out of the basement and into the heart of campus? From a professional ministry perspective, locating the main youth space on the ground floor fits with our ministry goals: Easier access opens opportunities for engagement with parents and visiting families and promotes intergenerational connection; positioning youth in the heart of our campus next to our worship center indicates that they are a priority; windows provide safety and natural light; a space (with break out rooms) designed with youth activities in mind reduces the risk of injury and damage to exposed pipes and conduits hanging from the basement ceilings and walls. In Sanctuary renderings, why are streamers hanging from the ceiling? It’s important to remember that renderings are meant to be an imaginative indication of what a space could look like and not a fixed determination of what will be. The fabric pieces in the renderings provide acoustical balance for the large room. They will likely be made of translucent material that hang only to the depth of the beams. In addition to their acoustical purpose, they will also help hide fire sprinklers (now required by building code) and, when desired, can enhance the aesthetic properties of the room by reflecting colored light (imagine red on Pentecost, purple during Advent, yellow for Easter). When complete, the Sanctuary will be reverent and demonstrative of God’s glory. Questions? Visit vpc.church/anewheart or contact Keith at keithk@vpc.church or (480) 991-6424 ext. 165.

Calendar of Events

Over the next two weeks, students from Middle and High School will take part in two different opportunities to be Christ's hands and feet in the Valley and in Denver, Colorado. This will be a chance for them to take an active role in ministries that care for those in need. These experiences can also have a profound effect on the students themselves; it is often through serving others that God chooses to speak into our own hearts.

Sunday, July 8

Please pray for the teams as they travel, work, and create lasting relationships!

From the City Service Mission website: CSM Denver is proud to partner with many agencies and ministries around the city that are willing to use their voice on behalf of those who are ignored or cannot speak for themselves. Everyone has a story and deserves a chance to share. When CSM participants visit Denver they have the opportunity to partner with several of these ministries. They will serve at places like the Denver Rescue Mission and be able to put a name to homelessness by serving and eating alongside the patrons.

Our desire for groups that come through Denver would be that they would be more than tourists for a week. We want them to reach out, touch and experience the city in unique ways. They may find themselves in touristy places like down along the 16th street pedestrian mall, but instead of shopping they will be looking for ways that they could meet a need for someone they might normally pass by.
