The process of raising children is like the straightening, sharpening, aiming, and releasing of an arrow. As a Christian community, we all work together to support families, shaping the young arrows in our community. VPC's Children’s Ministry 2017-2018 theme is based on Psalm 127. This psalm tells us that children are “like arrows in the hand of a warrior.” We want our children to grow in faith and maturity in Christ so that when they are released from our homes they make an impact in the world for God’s kingdom. The Blessing of the Backpacks is a perfect opportunity to bring our identities as loved children of God into our schools and classrooms. Students of all ages are returning to school-some are anxious, some eager, but all of them are trying to figure out their place in their world. As God’s family, we can encourage the children and teachers in our midst. All of them can use our support, encouragement, and blessing. Today we invite children, students, and teachers to receive the blessing at our Blessing of the Backpacks. We are praying for God’s blessing this year as they learn, as they teach, and as they live out their faith wherever God has placed them. Let’s send them back to school with a blessing, knowing that we stand behind them, supporting them as they make their way.
