FOCUS
Valley Presbyterian Church week of August 19, 2018
vpc.church/anewheart In the next few weeks, we hope you’ll enjoy hearing from our members with regard to why they appreciate VPC and why they’ve made a commitment to New Heart for the Valley. What do you think about A New Heart for the Valley Master Plan and Campaign? I’m excited to belong to a church that thinks about the future and thinks about it so intentionally. Many churches do live in the past and others are so focused on what’s new and upcoming, that they maybe leave some people behind. And this process has been wonderful to see how Valley has taken time to try to get everybody’s opinion heard and listened to, and we are trying truly to create a sense of community in this. It isn’t about doing or being “edgy;” it’s about how do we make this a place that is prepared to go into the world and to tell the world about Jesus Christ. What excites you about renovations associated with A New Heart for the Valley? I really love that word “heart.” The renovations will give us a new heart where we can gather as a community in a better way than we can right now. I am really excited about the idea of intergenerational mingling after and before the services, having some new places for us to gather, and about the updating of our current facilities. We’ve had a great facility for 50+ years, and that’s at least two generations ago that Sanctuary was built. And the world has changed a lot in that time. I am looking forward to equipping the church for the next generations to come. What motivated you to give to A New Heart for the Valley campaign? I am at the age where I am really thinking about how important it is that we leave behind legacy for the generation coming up, that has a life in Christ, and wants to make the world a better place. I made a commitment to the campaign because I do believe in the future of this church in a great way leading us forward in the decades to come. Although giving to this campaign required some changes in my household budget, I believe that investing in the future is one of the most important things I can do. I am investing in the future of Valley, I am investing in the future of our community, and I am investing in the future of so many different people. To me, it’s worth the sacrifice.
