VPC News
Church Office closed Monday, September 3 in observance of Labor Day. Welcome Jennifer, Joseph, and big sister Molly Hamm's new baby! Baby Jaxon Hamm, born Tuesday, August 21, weighing 9lbs and 21.5 inches long. Mom and baby are doing great! Prayers for their family are appreciated.
11:45AM Worship Service update
On August 21, Session, by e-mail vote, unanimously approved a Worship Committee motion to discontinue the 11:45AM Sunday Worship Service. The Worship Committee and staff noted that it is challenging to justify the pastoral and music resources needed for the service given the average weekly attendance. Additionally, Pastoral staff loses the opportunity to meet, greet, and connect with members and visitors after the 10:30AM service when the 11:45AM begins. Finally, they mentioned that once the Sanctuary has been remodeled, it will be crucial for the congregation to concentrate its energy to grow the 9 and 10:30AM services. At that point, it becomes difficult to continue the 11:45AM service.

VPC's Mental Health Ministry is a group of church members who deal with mental health issues themselves or have family members and/or loved ones who have mental health diagnoses. We work to reduce the shame and stigma that so often accompanies mental health diagnoses by providing information and encouraging discussion of mental health issues. We educate the congregation and our community about mental health issues though educational programs, speakers, and book studies. We are members of the local chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), the largest grass-roots organization on mental illness in the country. Monday, September 10, 2018 is World Suicide Prevention Day. The National Action Alliance for Suicide Prevention invites faith communities across the nation to pray for those whose lives have been touched by suicide. Join us as we pray for those who are hurting from loss or struggling with thoughts of suicide or hopelessness. Many families at VPC have faced the devastating consequences of suicide, but we are stronger together as we reach out in prayer and friendship to those who are suffering. If you or a loved one has been affected by a mental illness, we would love to have you join our ministry. Feel free to email Elizabeth Weiss, esweiss1231@gmail.com.

This will be an all-day "mini-retreat." Includes continental breakfast and lunch, speakers who focus on seasons of life, and break-out sessions (prayer, holy yoga, crafts, and life coaching.)
