Welcome to the Ministry Brochure!
2 3 4 6 8 10 12 13 14 16 18 18 19
We’re excited to offer a new tool to learn about all the incredible ministries and opportunities available to the VPC community. The new Ministry Brochure lists every event, program, and class from January through May of 2016.
VPC is doing many things to glorify God and bring His kingdom to our homes, workplaces, and communities. The Ministry Brochure contains a lot of information, and allows us to go into greater detail about specific events in the Focus. Let us know what you think! Email communications@myvalleychurch.org with your suggestions.
Why two websites and email addresses?
In the spring of 2016 Valley Presbyterian Church will relaunch its website, which will bring a new web address (vpc.church) and new email address (ex. church@vpc.church). The exact date hasn’t been finalized; be on the lookout for more information about the launch! myvalleychurch.org and @myvalleychurch.org emails still work and will still direct to the correct place after the change, as well.
SUNDAY WORSHIP SERVICES
Chapel, 8 & 11:45AM
Sanctuary, 9AM
Landes Center, 10:30AM
Children’s Message
The Chapel affords an intimate and acoustically exceptional worship experience. Seating is close to the pastors and musicians, and the 360 degree “Light of the Universe” stained glass surrounds the building.
Worship in the Landes Center tends to be less formal with a powerful drive. Music is led by the VPC Praise Band, which plays current popular worship music in a visual-driven setting with set pieces and screens.
The Sanctuary offers a soaring ceiling and a soaring time of worship through traditional elements of organ and choir. The largest building at VPC houses children and the elderly, long-time members and first-time visitors, those who were raised with organ and classical music, and those who are drawn to the presence of God.
9 & 10:30AM worship services Prior to Sunday School children worship for a time with their family and listen to a message specifically for them. It is an opportunity for kids to hear the music, prayer, and message in the worship services.
Lenten & Holy Week Worship Services Ash Wednesday
Wednesday, February 10 6:30PM, Sanctuary This service begins the season of Lent, and is a reminder of Jesus’ journey to the cross

Childcare at VPC At VPC, our primary goal is to provide safe, fun and nurturing environments that allow you and your kids to worship, learn, and grow. There are many kinds of events at VPC, and opportunities for children differ based on age and type of event. We believe including older children in some church experiences allows them to practice expected behaviors and grow more comfortable. Our team believes parents are the best spiritual leaders for their children, and when events are suitable for the whole family, such as Bunny Business, or include a parent-supervised ‘Kid Zone,’ we will not provide separate experiences for children. On Sundays the Nursery, Toddler Room, and Sunday School are offered for children (schedule varies slightly on holidays and summer). On Friday mornings childcare is offered for MOPS and Women’s Bible Study. Childcare is also offered during some educational opportunities, like Parenting the Love and Logic Way and Financial Peace University, and when publicized, at specific churchwide events by reservation.

Check the website for social and service opportunities. We’re very excited to present three different studies this semester: In the Dust of the Rabbi, by Ray Vander Laan January 17 - February 14 Do you feel like you’re a follower of Jesus, but from a distance? In Jesus’ day, disciples followed their Rabbi so closely they would be covered with the dust kicked by His feet. Come discover how you can get dusty and be closer to your Rabbi, Jesus, by doing what He does. Death and Resurrection of the Messiah, by Ray Vander Laan February 21 - April 10 (No class March 27, Easter) Being a follower of Jesus does not mean we never come in contact with evil. In reality, it means that we must confront it – face to face – just like Jesus did every single day. Come learn how confronting evil can be seen by loudly proclaiming the name of Jesus or quietly caring for someone in need. The Call: The Life & Message of the Apostle Paul, by Adam Hamilton, April 17 - May 22 Follow the journeys of Paul, beginning with his dramatic conversion, as he spread the Gospel through modern-day Greece and Turkey. Travel to the early church sites and explore Paul’s conversations and experience through Christ’s greatest teacher and missionary.

1 Thessalonians and its Message for VPC*
Facilitator: Dr. Jeffrey Weima January 6 – 27, 6:30–7:30PM, Chapel No fee or registration required Paul’s first letter to the Thessalonians deals with the sanctity of sex, the second coming of Jesus, the so-called “Rapture,” models of ministry for both pastors and parishioners, and other important matters. These subjects are not only interesting but also relevant for members of VPC. Come hear Dr. Jeffrey Weima, Professor of New Testament at Calvin Theological Seminary and renowned Pauline scholar, explain how this ancient New Testament letter has important implications for our church today.

Wednesday night classes beginning in February Beliefs and Practices of the First-Century Church*
Instructor: Dr. Andrew Pitts Every other Wednesday, February 17 - April 27 6-7:30PM, Calvin Center This six-session course looks in detail at the beliefs and practices of the earliest Christians, as represented by the New Testament. What did first-century Christians think about Jesus? Salvation? The End Times? What were the most important practices of the early church? How were things like prayer, worship and the Lord’s supper informed by surrounding Jewish and Greco-Roman culture? Teacher Dr. Andrew Pitts is the Chair of the Biblical Studies Department at Arizona Christian University, as well as author and editor of several books.
The Holy Spirit: Not a Third Wheel*
Instructor: Ed Glady Wednesdays, February 17 - March 16 6:30-7:30PM, Room 409 Many of us struggle with understanding the character, nature and role of the Holy Spirit. While we know the concept of a triune God, sometimes the Holy Spirit receives little attention in our discipleship. Join us as we learn more about the Holy Spirit, the Biblical passages that help us understand more about it, and how forming a deeper bond with the Holy Spirit can and will deepen your daily walk with God. The class will be thought provoking, challenging, and will deliberately incorporate ways to apply what you learn so you can get reacquainted with the One who is with us on our discipleship journey.

Divorce Recovery
Alcoholics Anonymous
For those who’ve experienced the trauma from the ending of their marriage, it can be one of the most painful of all losses. As a community that believes God has the power to heal our deepest wounds, Valley Presbyterian Church is proud to offer an exceptional Divorce Recovery program to our church and community.
Alcoholics Anonymous is a fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength and hope with each other. The only requirement for AA membership is a desire to stop drinking. There are no dues or fees for AA membership; we are self supporting through our own contributions. AA is nonprofessional, selfsupporting, multiracial, apolitical, does not engage in controversies, and neither endorses nor opposes any causes. Our primary purpose is to stay sober and to help other alcoholics achieve sobriety.

Interment and Memorial Garden
VPC has several venues available for weddings. If you’re interested in holding your special and sacred event on campus, please contact Della early in the planning process. Celebrate your special day with us!
When we baptize someone, we witness an individual being brought into the worldwide community of faith and specifically recognized as a unique creation. Baptism also tasks the congregation to come alongside the individual. Questions? Contact Della Berg: 480-991-6424x168 dellaberg@myvalleychurch.org, dellab@vpc.church
The Church staff is here to help and support the family and loved ones through this difficult time of transition. Services can be held in The Chapel (seating 130) or The Sanctuary (seating 800). Valley Presbyterian Church has dedicated a portion of its property as a Memorial Garden for the cremains of its community and their families.
