COAS reiterates support for right to self-determination for Kashmiris

Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa on Saturday reiterated support for the right to self-determination for Kashmiris. On the first death anniversary of the Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani, Director General Inter Services Public Relations (DG ISPR) Major General Asif Ghafoor took to Twitter to share the message of the Army Chief. The COAS said, “The Kashmiris have right to self-determination. Sacrifices of Burhan Wani and generations against Indian atrocities are a testimony of their resolve.”

Use of modern technology in CPEC projects to alleviate energy crisis: President

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Saturday urged for cultivation of characteristics which were the hallmarks of late Abdul Sattar Edhi’s personality to serve the humanity. In a message on the death anniversary of late Edhi, the Prime Minister said, “People like him were not only the real assets of a country or nation but also for the whole humanity.” Paying tributes to Edhi, he further noted that, “Late Edhi had devoted his life for the service of humanity and never differentiated on the basis of caste, creed or religion.”“Late Edhi had treated all humans alike and considered serving them as a noble cause,” the Prime Minister added. The Prime Minister said, “Due to his traits, late Edhi has been respected throughout the world and the people could pay tribute on his anniversary by emulating his qualities to serve the humanity.

Pakistan re-elected vice chair of UNEP CPR Bureau Permanent Representative of Pakistan to the United Nations Environment Programme Raza Bashir Tarar was unanimously re-elected as Vice Chair of the Committee of Permanent Representatives (CPR) Bureau from the Asia Pacific Group for the period 2017-2019. The decision was made at the 139th CPR meeting held in Nairobi, said a press release issued. Pakistan’s Mission in Nairobi is accredited as Permanent Mission to the United Nations Office in Nairobi (UNON), United Nations Environment Prog ram me ( U N EP) and Un it e d Na t io n s Hu m a n Se t t le me nt s P r og r a m me (UN-Habitat). Ambassador Tarar also currently holds the Chair of G77 and China, Nairobi Chapter. The election is a manifestation of the trust reposed in Pakistan by the Members of Asia Pacific Group and reflects Pakistan’s commitment to environmental issues.

CPEC to promote PakCh i na c o op er at i on in realm of science, technology

Minister for Science and Technology Rana Tanveer Hussain on Saturday said that multibillion dollar CPEC project will help further promote cooperation between the two countries in the realm of science and technology.

ISLAMABAD—President Mamnoon Hussain said that use of modern technology in China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) related energy projects would alleviate the energy crisis in Pakistan and play a key role in Pakistan’s long-term growth. The President was talking to Dr. Wan Gang, Chinese Minister for Science and Technology who called on him at the Aiwan-e-Sadr, Islamabad. Rana Tanveer Hu ssai n , M i n ister for Science and Technology, Chinese Ambassador Sun Weidong and senior officials were also present in the meeting. The President said, “Bilateral cooperation in the field of Science and Technology is progressing

well and hoped that the decisions taken during this visit will further enhance our cooperation in this important area. We are also interested in benefiting from China’s ambitious ChinaSouth Asian Countries Science and Technology Partnership Programme (CSA-STEP) and enhance our economic cooperation through Technology Transfer.” The President noted with satisfaction that, “17 protocols have been concluded so far in accordance with the Framework Agreement on Science and Technology signed between the two countries in 1976 and the 18th Protocol is being signed during this visit.” The

President said, “Pakistan and China are ‘Iron Brothers’, strategic partners and good neighbors. Friendship with China is the cornerstone of our foreign policy and our strategic partnership serves as an anchor for regional peace and stability.” He emphasized to maintain the momentum of high-level bilateral exchanges and enhance people-to-people interaction. The President underscored that, “CPEC is the latest example of our excellent economic cooperation. Scientific knowledge and technology can bring value addition to CPEC projects. We are keen to incorporate this knowledge in our industry for value addition of local

raw materials and finished products. Pakistan would continue to focus on further enhancing trade relations with China to bring them at par with bilateral political and strategic relations.” The Chinese Minister for Science and Technology said, “China and Pakistan have a long history of working together in various fields including science and Technology.” He offered to Cooperate in all sectors where Pakistan needs Chinese suppor t including Maritime industry, Biodiversity, renewable energy, establishment of joint scientific labs for the young scientists and working together for the climate change for benefit of entire humanity.

JIT to present final report before SC today

The Joint Investigation Team for probe into Panama Leaks case will submit the final report today to the Special Bench of Supreme Court (SC). Pak-Turkey FTA negotiation a milestone to final agreement

The seventh round of negotiations on Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between Pakistan and Turkey was milestone to reach the final agreement. Secretary Ministr y of Commerce Younas Dhaga led Pakistan’s delegation in negotiation on FTA between Pakistan and Turkey. Pakistan and Turkey had discussed the specific sectors including textile sector during the negotiation, a senior official of Ministry of Commerce told. He said the two sides had exchanged provisional lists for a final agreement in round of negotiation. Pakistan and Turkey’s Free

Trade Agreement (FTA) will be signed on August 14, for enhancing the bilateral trade between two countries. “Pakistan’s trade balance with Turkey remained positive until 2011,however, it started decreasing since 2011, when additional duties on various commodities were imposed by the two countries,” he said. The official said the two sides carrying discussions on agreement on goods, services and investment. After signing of new FTA with Turkey, both the countries, gain will be able to improve their trade balance,
