Pakistan strongly favours synergetic partnerships: PM
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has said that Pakistan strongly favours cooperation and synergetic partnerships across regions for socio-economic development and human prosperity. He was speaking at the Leaders’ Roundtable on Policy Synergy in Beijing today. The Prime Minister said it is imperative that we appreciate the “Belt and Road” initiative in its proper perspective of interconnected development. It is now turning into the centre of gravity for half of the world’s economies – in Asia, in Africa and in Europe. He pointed out that the initiative is firmly supported by the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank and the Silk Road Fund. UN Bodies and regional organisations have embraced it, as multiple projects under the “One Belt-One Road” have complementarity. The Prime Minister said as
part of the same initiative under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor banner, we have made phenomenal progress in a short span of time through active participation in the areas of infrastructure, energy, industrial zones and telecommunications. He, however, said four areas require more focus. First, overall progress should be reviewed as we all stand to benefit from early harvest projects. Second, we need more synergy in our development strategies both at the regional and international levels. Third, this initiative must continue to deliver “win-win” outcomes. Four, we should build on the solid foundations of One Belt One Road to make it a living, growing and organic partnership. The Prime Minister said Pak ist an is har monising national development plans with the China-Pak istan
Economic Corridor, closely coordinating with China for planning and implementation of CPEC and liaising with International Financial I n s t i t u t i o n s fo r p ol i c y alignment. He called for expanding consensus for One Belt One Road, enhancing cooperation in development and implementation and prepare a blueprint and roadmap for long-term cooperation. Mian Nawaz Sharif said we are all concerned about the existing and emerging threats of terrorism, refugee movements, mass migration, food security and water shortages. However, he expressed the confidence that with One Belt One Road in place, we would be able to turn the tide of these threats. Speaking in the second session of the roundtable on Connectivity Cooperation for
Vienna Convention does not apply to a ‘spy’, involved in terror activities” Pakistan has challenged the jurisdiction of International Court of Justice (ICJ) in the case of Indian application regarding conviction of its spy Kulbhushan Yadav. Presenting Pakistani stance, the Director General of South Asia in Foreign Office Dr Muhammad Faisal at ICJ in The Hague, Netherlands, today said under Vien na Convention, hearing of criminal cases does not fall under the purview of the international court. He said Indian Naval Commander Yadav was arrested by Pakistani Forces during an operation in Balochistan province and he has confessed the killing of dozens of innocent Pakistanis. He said the Indian Spy was sentenced to death after fulfilling all necessary legal requirements and he was also given counsel to defend allegations against him. Dr Faisal said that spies do not have any right of counselor access and India did not produce
evidence provided by Pakistan against Yadav in the international court. Dr Faisal said Indian Spy was traveling to Pakistan on fake Indian Passport and India was informed by Pakistan about Yadav’s espionage activities. He said India did not express any reaction on use of fake Passport by its citizen. He said India’s application is misconceived and unnecessary. The International Court of Justice has reserved its verdict regarding Indian application against the conviction of Indian Spy Kulbhushan Yadav by Pakistan. After completion of arguments of both parties the court said that date for the Judgment will be duly communicated. Earlier in his arguments, Pakistani Counsel Khawar Qureshi said India’s allegation regarding kidnap of its spy is not true and he was arrested on Pakistani soil.
PM Nawaz likely to meet Trump this week Pakistan has urged the United Nations to take notice of Indian attempts to bring demographic changes to occupied Kashmir. In a letter to the UN Secretary General A nt on io G ut e r r e s , t he Adviser on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz has specifically pointed out the issuance of permanent residence certificates to non-residents, allotment of land to retired Indian army personnel and issuance of land to non-Kashmiris in the occupied territory. Sartaj Aziz also mentioned the establishment of separate townships for Kashmiri pundits and settlement of West Pakistan refugees to convert Muslim majority of the valley into a minority and preempt the results of UN administered plebiscite. The Adviser said non-implementation of the UN Security Council resolutions is leading to a grave human tragedy in occupied Kashmir.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and United States President Donald Trump are likely to hold their first-ever meeting in Saudi Arabia. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will arrive in Saudi Arabia on May 20 for the US-ArabIslamic summit, to be participated by several leaders from
across the world. According to reports, a meeting between Sharif and Trump had been planned; but, a fixed date, time and agenda of the meeting were yet to be worked out. In December last year, Trump made headlines in the media after he reportedly held a
telephonic conversation with PM Nawaz and called him a ‘terrific guy’. According to a PM House statement, Trump said he would love to visit the fantastic country [Pakistan], in apparent volte face to his critical remarks against Pakistan in 2012 via tweet.
Fitting farewell for #MisYou as Pakistan clinch thrilling decider
Dominica bid farewell to two legends of the game in a most fitting manner, giving Younis Khan and Misbah-ul-Haq the most heart-stopping send-off possible History beckoned time and
again, torturing and teasing them. It made them wait, it made them wonder, it made them despair. But, with six balls left in the game, the series, and their careers, came perhaps its most satisfying
moment. Shannon Gabriel, West Indies’ No. 11, had spent just over half an hour at the crease, and had seen out 21 balls. See out one more, and it would leave Roston Chase, who was batting on 101, to face the last over and dramatically raise West Indies’ chances of saving the Test. Gabriel had kept out those 21 balls by trusting his defence, but now, seeing Yasir Shah toss one up outside off stump with all nine fielders in catching positions, went for a big slog. He only managed an insideedge into the stumps.
Interconnected Development, the Pr ime Minister said Pakistan is pursuing vision of a peaceful, inter-connected and prosperous neighbourhood with great determination. He said rapid digitalisation and next generation connectivity are at the heart of our agenda for transforming into a knowledge-based economy. He said Pakistan’s Gwadar Port, the pivot of CPEC, will link up East, West and South Asia. It will also reach out to African and European markets. Progress on the port is swift, and very soon Gwadar will develop into an inspired, organic, and dynamic city full of great opportunities. He said Gwadar is emerging as a symbol and conduit of connectivity, mutuality, and empowerment. The Prime Minister said core of the “One Belt-One Road” initiative is connectivity and long-term development, especially in developing countries. India can’t digest China Pakistan Economic Corridor project: CM Shehbaz
BEIJING, MAY 15, (DNA) – Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday voiced concern over Indian conspiracy, stating that the neighboring country is continuously making ‘failed attempts’ to sabotage China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project. “India cannot digest CPEC project,” Shehbaz Sharif said. The chief minister gave these remarks after ten labourers were gunned down in Balochistan while working on link roads to connect outlying towns to the country’s $57-billion Chinese
Belt and Road initiative. The attack on the labourers took place some 20 km from the emerging port city of Gwadar in Baluchistan province that forms the southern hub of the ChinaPakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). Gwadar’s deep-water port is the exit point for a planned route from China’s far-western Xinjiang region to the Arabian Sea. Earlier on Saturday, Chinese President Xi Jinping met Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif after several agreements were
signed between the two countries and said the construction of CPEC would be pushed forward. “The supplementary projects in and around Pakistan’s Gwadar Port should be steadily advanced and the study on the construction of industrial parks along the corridor facilitated,” state-run Chinese news agency Xinhua quoted Xi as saying. Xi also said that China-Pakistan relations were a priority for Beijing and it was willing to enrich the “all-weather strategic cooperative” partnership with Islamabad.
