BA N K I NG SECTOR IN PAKISTAN SHOWN IMPRESSIVE PERFORMANCE: PM Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Wednesday said that sound capital base, remarkable growth in assets and profitability and compliance with international standards poised Pakistan’s banking sector in a very competitive position in the region for investors. He expressed views while talking to Jose Vinals, Chairman, Standard Chartered Bank (SCB) in Islamabad. While welcoming the Chairman on his visit to Pakistan, the Prime Minister st at e d t h at , “ St a nd a rd Chartered is one of the oldest and the largest international banks in Pakistan.” The Prime Minister appreciated the Standard Chartered Bank’s continuous commitment to introduce new technology and innovative financial products including Islamic banking in Pakistan compatible with global standards. The Prime Minister said, “Regulatory and supervisory framework of Pakistan is very progressive and provides supportive environment to the international investors.” The Prime Minister further stated that, “Pakistan’s banking sector has shown impressive perfor mance over the period and proved its resilience with stable outlook. Due to growth focused policies, Pakistan has been upgraded to the list of emerging markets.” “Pakistan stock market was ranked as 5th best performing stock market in 2016 and our current Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth rate stands above 5.3 percent,” stated the Prime Minister. “The continuing economic g row th with increasing foreign investment in the energy and infrastructure sectors under China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), Pakistan is offering a wide range of investment opportunities,” added the Prime Minister. PA K I S T A N R E A D Y TO HELP DEFUSE T E NSION BET W EE N SAUDI ARABIA, IRAN: NAFEES ZAKARIA Foreign Office spokesperson Nafees Zakaria says the main objective of Islamic Coalition Force is to eliminate terrorism and take actions against militant organizations. Talking to a private news channel, he said Term of References of Islamic Coalition Force will be formed by the coalition partners through consultation. The spokesperson said the ongoing discussions on media regarding the coalition force are based on mere speculations. To a question, he said Pakistan is ready to help defuse tension between Saudi Arabia and Iran. The spokesperson said Pakistan has great importance in the region and rendered supreme sacrifices in the war against terrorism. He said the world leaders have also acknowledged Pakistan’s contributions and sacrifices against terrorism.

PAF ready to respond to any misadventure of enemy: Air Chief
Air Chief Sohail Aman has emphatically stated that Pakistan will give a befitting response to any misadventure from the enemy. Talking to the media persons at Qadri airbase in Skardu following witnessing the exercises of fighter planes, he said the nation should have zero concerns over the statements of the enemy. He said PAF is fully prepared and capable to defend the frontiers of the country. Our response to any aggression by the enemy will be such that their future generations will also remember it. About exercises, the Air Chief said these are routine drills of the summer season. He said our forces are thoroughly
professional and always remain fully operational and alert. The Air Chief said the PAF also played a significant role in anti-terrorism operations. He said the production of JF-17 has been enhanced by three times and the fighter jet has been further improved as per the modern standards. He said JF-17 is pride of Pakistan and the aim of this project was to achieve self-reliance. He said all the fighter jets have the capability of air-to-air refuelling. Earlier, the air chief also participated in the exercises by flying the Mirage fighter jet.
RAWALPINDI — 75th Annual Formation Commanders conference was held at GHQ. COAS presided the conference which was attended by all General Officers of the Army. Participants were briefed on geo-strategic environment, progress of Operation Raddul-Fasaad, operational preparedness against conventional threat and other matters concerning National Security. COAS said budding state of stability achieved after countless sacrifices by the security forces, Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs) and by the Nation shall be consolidated to have a normalized Pakistan.
Referring to his recent visits to frontline field formations along our eastern and western frontiers, COAS appreciated the high state of operational readiness and morale of troops especially displayed in response to recent border / cease fire violation. He said that not-with-standing our desire for enduring peace with our neighbors, any hostile action anywhere along our frontiers shall be responded most befittingly. The forum also deliberated on situation in FATA, recent measures for better PakAfghan border management, impending FATA reforms
and reiterated requirement of reform process in line with aspirations of people of FATA. Improving situation of Balochistan was also deliberated upon. Forum reiterated its resolve to continue meaningful contributions towards stability and progress of Balochistan with support of its people. Progress of CPEC and security of CPEC projects were discussed with emphasis to maintain focus on further securing environment for timely progress of this vitally significant mega initiative. President Mamnoon Hussain on Wednesday said that the African countries must prepare themselves to benefit from projects of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and One Belt One Road (OBOR). “These projects are not only beneficial for this region but they also have a great significance in connecting different parts of the world,” he said during a luncheon in honor of Ambassadors/High Commissioners of African countries at Aiwan-e-Sadr, Islamabad. He also stated that, “Pakistan’s importance in the region has increased manifold after the start of CPEC and Pakistan’s future is bright. Economic Corridor and One Belt, One Road Project is the greatest initiative of this century under which different regions can change the fate of their people by coming closer to each other.” The President congratulated

On the occasion, Adviser to PM on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz, Foreign Secretary Tehmina Janjua and other senior officials were also present. He said , “ Pa k ist a n h a s achieved significant successes in war against terrorism and African countries can benefit from Pakistan’s experiences in addressing the menace of terrorism.” The President stated that, “ Pa k ist a n h a s r e nde r e d immense sacrifices in fight against terrorism and now by the Grace of Allah Almighty Pakistan has overcome this menace to a great extent.” He further said, “African countries can benefit from Pakistan’s experiences in this regard.” He also offered training for African officers in different fields including defense and foreign affairs. The President emphasized that,
“Africa has a special place in Pakistan’s foreign policy” adding that Pakistan has adopted ‘Look Africa Policy’ to further strengthen relations with African countries. “The basic objective of this policy is to further expand cooperation in political, educational, cultural and economic fields so that the trade volume between Pakistan and African countries can be further increased,” he said. The President also said, “Pakistan and African countries have several commonalities in political, economic, investment and tourism sectors adding that maximum benefits can be gained by enhancing bilateral cooperation in these areas.” On the occasion, Mpendulo Jele, High Commissioner of South Africa (Dean for A f r ica) s a id , “ Pa k ist a n has successfully faced the scourge of terrorism which is commendable.”

Pakistan Navy fully capable to thwart any aggression: Naval Chief Naval Ch ief, Ad m i ral Muhammad Zakaullah on Wednesday said that Pakistan Navy possesses all skills to defend its maritime borders, and is fully capable to thwart any aggression. Addressing the 46th Naval Course at the Naval War College in Lahore, he said, “Pa k ist a n Nav y will be equipped with the latest equipment to defend maritime borders of the country.” Admiral Muhammad Zakaullah said, “Pakistan is peace-loving country that seeks to pursue its legitimate economic and security interests, however, as hegemonic and domineering mindset prevails in our neighborhood, we cannot be oblivious to threats to our sovereignty and national security.”He let it be known that a strong naval force is required to overcome the challenges of this region, and Pakistan has got one that holds the capability to retaliate
with full strength against any aggression. He highlighted that, “quest for resources and influence is generating competition and new alignments in an evolving and uncertain world. In our region, the investments are being made towards strategic and conventional build up large number of Extra Regional Forces in the area.” While advising the graduating officers, Admiral Zakaullah emphasized that, “An officer
in the leadership position must face future challenges boldly with a professional approach and make best use of knowledge and skills acquired in the service of respective navies.” Citing the healthy participation of Allied Course Participants, the Naval Chief said, “Pakistan Navy will now have twenty more Ambassadors and friends forever and hoped that Allied Officers will stay connected with new friends made during the year and PN War College.”

ISPR further said that the off icials, who were on a visit to LOC, were targeted despite UNMOGIP blue flag was hoisted on the vehicle as per procedure. Both officers remained safe and were rushed back to a safe location. Last week, Pakistan Army
had lodged a protest before military observers from United Nations against ‘unprovoked’ Indian aggression and firing on civilians from across the LoC. United Nations Milit ar y Obser vers at U N MOGIP were invited to GHQ to register a protest over “unprovoked ceasefire violations and targeting of civilian population by Indian Army”.
