Roads, motorways to help boost economy of Pakistan: PM Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Monday said that roads and motorways would help in boosting economy of Pakistan by providing access of far flung areas to urban centers and also generate employment opportunities.

He was chairing a meeting to review progress on development projects particularly roads and motorways projects across the country and metro link to New Islamabad International Airport.

The Prime Minister directed that timelines for completion of project should be adhered to and no compromise be made on quality of work. PM further directed that all works be undertaken with utmost transparency.

Ishaq Dar warns profiteers against undue raise in prices Finance Minister Ishaq Dar has warned of stern action against profiteers who raise prices of daily use commodities on the pretext of the budget. In a statement, the minister asked relevant departments to check the prices in the market and take action against profiteers accordingly.

He said that no price hike was made in daily use commodity in the federal budget, so anyone using it as a pretext for raising prices should be punished.

SC rejects Hussain Nawaz’s

reservations regarding JIT members — Supreme Court (SC) on Monday dismissed Hussain Nawaz’s apprehensions and has overtly stated that no member of joint investigation team (JIT), constituted to probe Sharif family’s offshore assets, would be altered.

The special bench of the apex court comprising Justice Ejaz Afzal, Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed and Justice Ijaz ul Hassan heard the case.

According to details, SC further directed Panamagate JIT to continue probe as per law and reiterated to take the much hyped case to its logical end. Expressing exasperation over objections, SC inquired whether Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif would appoint members for probing the Panama Leaks Case.

“Treat those appearing before Panamagate JIT in a respectable manner. Don’t contemplate that case would be prolonged as it would be taken to its logical end,” remarked Justice Azmat Saeed.

“Concrete evidence is required to prove predilection as rule of law remains our priority,” said Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan.

Federal Investigation Agency D i r e c t o r a n d H e a d of Panamagate JIT Wajid Zia, during proceedings, informed

the apex court that Kashif Masood and Hamad bin Jassim were summoned but they did not appear.

Never done anything illegal, claims Imran Khan

PM directs for minimum load-shedding during Ramzan

Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif chaired meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Energy (CCE) here in Islamabad yesterday.

Secretary Water & Power briefed the meeting on implementation status of previous decisions taken by CCE, current load management plan, circular debt, transmission and distribution of power from upcoming power projects and status of utilization of idle power plants.

The CCE was informed that Bhikki and Haveli Bhadur Shah plants were facing normal mechanical problems in some of their turbines which are being resolved with the manufacturer. The Prime Minister directed to complete repairs at the earliest.

It was informed that a special committee in the Ministry of Pet roleu m & Nat u ral Resources is working on chalking out a balanced conversion plan from conventional fuels to LNG. It was further informed that monitoring of power generation and distribution systems is being undertaken regularly with physical and field monitoring of 270 projects. Regular meetings are being held with CEOs of DISCOS to resolve operational issues.

Minister for Petroleum &

Natural Resources briefed the CCE regarding new gas transmission pipelines being built for LNG from Karachi to Lahore. CCE expressed satisfaction over the pace of work on gas pipelines.

The Prime Minister expressed displeasure over the load-shedding schedule currently being followed and directed that minimum load-shedding be carried out during the month of Ramzan. The Prime Minister stated that proactive and solution oriented approach should be adopted by all line departments with the aim to provide maximum relief in summer season.

It was informed that by March, 2018 a total of additional 9,107 MW power carrying capacity

would be available in the transmission system provided timelines are met.

The Prime Minister stated that the government is fully cognizant of the problems faced by masses due to power shortage and will not rest till a significant relief is provided. Keeping in view the urgency of the situation, the Prime Minister has called another meeting of the CCE tomorrow.

No possibility of a limited war with Pakistan, says Indian Army chief NEW DELHI— Indian Army Chief General Bipin Rawat has said that there is no possibility of a limited war with Pakistan. While talking about using Kashmiri man as a human shield he termed the move as ‘defensive’ by the Indian army.

“This is a proxy war and proxy war is a dirty war. It is played in a dirty way. The rules of engagements are there when the adversary comes face-to-face and fights with you. It is a dirty war. That is where innovation comes in.

petrol bombs at us. If my men ask me what do we do, should I say, just wait and die?

I will come with a nice coffin with a national flag and I will send your bodies home with honour. Is it what I am supposed to tell them as chief? I have to maintain the morale of my troops who are operating there,” he said.

Indian Army Chief asserted that, “It would have been easier for them if the protesters use weapons instead of stones. In fact, I wish these people, instead of throwing stones at us, were firing weapons at us. Then I would have been happy. Then I could do what I want to do,” Rawat told PTI.

At the UN, Pakistan called for addressing the root causes of conflicts and finding peaceful settlement of disputes to ensure the protection of civilians in conflict situations, says a press release received here today from New York.

Speaking in the Security Council Open Debate on the ‘Protection of Civilians and Healthcare in Armed Conflict’, Pakistan’s Ambassador to the UN, Dr. Maleeha Lodhi voiced Pakistan’s support to the Secretary General’s call for a ‘surge in diplomacy for peace’.

“A culture of prevention is after all, the best assurance to sustainable and enduring peace and security”, she said.

The goal of protection of civilians, Ambassador Lodhi said, was best served by preventing the outbreak of armed conflicts in the first place. “This entails addressing the root causes of conflicts, and finding inclusive political solutions to disputes and seeking peaceful settlement of conflicts”, she added.

She also called for prioritization of protection of civilians in UN peacekeeping operations. As one of the world’s leading troop contributors, A mbassador Lod hi said, Pakistan has “proudly and conscientiously performed the task of protecting civilians in different parts of the world

including in Missions in the DRC, Darfur, Central African Republic and Liberia.”

Arguing that the protection of civilians in armed conflict was a basic tenet of international humanitarian law, Ambassador Lodhi regretted that despite an established nor mative framework, compliance was unfortunately sporadic and accountability mechanisms remained weak.

“Non-combatants continue to be treated as “fair game” at the hands of warring parties to further their strategic interests. “Collateral damage’ is still considered an unfortunate but inevitable by product of conflict”, she added.

Ambassador Lodhi pointed out that the plight of the vulnerable including women and children remains particularly acute.

She referred to the Secretary General latest report, which noted that more than 20 million people in conflict situations including 1.4 million children are on the brink of famine. She emphasized that there was an ever greater need for humanitarian assistance and protection for people displaced by conflict.

This challenge, she pointed out, was compounded by an inadequate global response to address the suffering of civilians in armed conflict.

Ambassador Lodhi described as “unfortunate” the spate of recent attacks against medical facilities, both by state and non-state actors, in conflict situations. Essential health services including hospitals and medical personnel, she said, play a critical role, both as providers of vital life support as well as sustainers of hope and optimism.

“Any attack on medical facilities and staff, jeopardizes life and exacerbates suffering. It is therefore, not only an egregious breach of international law, but also a betrayal of humanity itself”, she added.

Re cal l i ng t he la nd ma rk Security Council Resolution 2286, adopted last year, which unequivocally condemned

attacks or threats against medical and humanitarian personnel exclusively engaged in medical duties, the Pakistani envoy urged the 15-member Council to translate this political resolve into tangible action.

Calling for an end to the culture of impunity, Dr. Lodhi said that criminal prosecutions and other forms of accountability for the perpetrators of attacks on health service providers are equally essential.

Ambassador Lodhi said that parties to an armed conflict must also ensure a safe, unimpeded passage and sustained humanitarian access. Human misery, she said, could not be mortgaged at the altar of political objectives.

Senate resumes its session in Islamabad

relevant officials from the ministry are present in the House to take note of their recommendations. They said the government is not taking the upper house seriously.

Responding to the concerns, Minster for Law Zahid Hamid rejected the impression that the government is not

taking the House seriously. He said that we value the recommendations of the House and in the last budget many of the recommendations of the House on the budget were accepted.

They may stay about the same for years, but may progress or get worse over time. Severe arthritis can result in chronic pain, inability to do daily activities and make it difficult to walk or climb stairs. .

There are different types of arthritis: Degenerative Arthritis Osteoarthritis is the most common type of arthritis. When the cartilage wears away, bone rubs against bone, causing pain, swelling and stiffness. Over time, joints can lose strength and pain may become chronic. Risk factors include excess weight, family history, age and previous injury When the joint symptoms of osteoarthritis are mild or moderate, they can be managed by: • balancing activity with rest • using hot and cold therapies • regular physical activity • maintaining a healthy weight • strengthening the muscles around the joint for added support • using assistive devices • taking over-the-counter (OTC) pain relievers or anti-inflammatory medicines • avoiding excessive repetitive movements If joint symptoms are severe, causing limited mobility and affecting quality of life, some of the above management strategies may be helpful, but joint replacement may be necessary.

Osteoarthritis can prevented by staying active, maintaining a healthy weight, and avoiding injury and repetitive movements.

Inflammatory Arthritis A healthy immune system is protective. It generates internal inflammation to get rid of infection and prevent disease. But the immune system can go awry, mistakenly attacking the joints with uncontrolled inflammation, potentially causing joint erosion and may damage internal organs, eyes and other parts of the body. Rheumatoid arthritis and psoriatic arthritis are examples of inflammatory arthritis.

Curfew continues in Indian Occupied Kashmir on day two

SR I NAG A R– I n d i a n Occupied Kashmir (IOK) continued to reel under complete shutdown coupled with strict curfew and other restrictions for the second consecutive day, Monday.

Causes of arthritis The causes of arthritis depend on the form of arthritis. Causes include injury (leading to osteoarthritis), metabolic abnormalities (such as gout and pseudogout), hereditary factors, the direct and indirect effect of infections (bacterial and viral), and a misdirected immune system with autoimmunity .

Symptoms of arthritis Symptoms of arthritis include pain and limited function of joints. Joint inflammation from arthritis is characterized by joint stiffness, swelling, redness, pain, and warmth. Tenderness of the inflamed joint can be present with or without pain. When large joints are involved, such as the knee, there can be loss of cartilage with limitation of motion from the joint damage. When arthritis affects the small joints in fingers, there can be bone growth and loss of hand grip and grip strength of the hand. Symptoms in some patients with certain forms of arthritis can also include fever, gland swelling (swollen lymph nodes), weight loss, fatigue, feeling unwell and even symptoms from abnormalities of organs such as the lungs, heart, or kidneys.

Diagnosis of arthritis The first step in the diagnosis of arthritis is a meeting between the doctor specially rheumatologist and the patient. The doctor will review the history of symptoms, examine the joints for inflammation and deformity, as well as ask questions about or examine other parts of the body for inflammation or signs of diseases that can affect other body areas. Furthermore, certain blood, urine, joint fluid, and/or X-ray tests might be advised. FIA detain 3 Afghan women attempting to board London-bound flight on fake documents ISLAMABAD, MAY 29— Three Afghan women have been detained for attempting to illegally board a Londonbound flight of the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) Monday morning. Officials of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) stated that the three Afghan women holding genuine Afghan passports obtained boarding passes for a PIA flight to Kabul.

Once the ladies reached the departure lounge after passing through immigration, they were provided fake British passports and boarding passes for PIA’s London-bound f light that was expected to take off at the same time.

However, before the ladies

could board the plane, the FIA officials arrested them along with some unidentified PIA officials who had

allegedly provided them with the boarding passes for the London-bound f light.

The passengers’ passports,

both fake and originals were also seized. Investigations are underway to arrest all those involved in the scam.—DNA
