Gov t clarif ies President Mamnoon’s exact salary Refuting recent reports regarding huge raise in President Mamnoon Hussain’s salary, the government has clarified that his salary has been proposed Rs130,000 per month in the new budget. “In relation to the Federal budget 2017/18, the impression being created in certain sections of media that the pay of the President has been increased to Rs. 1.6 million/month is not correct,” the government stated in a press release. “It is clarified that in the current financial year monthly salary of the President is Rs. 80,000/ month i.e. Rs. 960,000/year which has now been proposed Rs. 130,000/month in the new budget.” “Thus, after the approval of budget 2017/2018 his pay for a complete year will be around 1.6 million rupees and not for a month.” Major power breakdown hits Karachi, other 12 districts in Sindh A major breakdown of electricity was observed in 13 districts of Sindh including Karachi and Hyderabad during the first Sehri on Sunday, and 76 grid stations are still tripped. 70 percent areas of Karachi and Mirpur Khas are deprived of electricity. JIT questions Hussain Nawaz for over an hour in Panama Case - Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s son Hussain Nawaz has Sunday reached Judicial Academy in Islamabad to record his statement before Joint Investigation Team (JIT) regarding Panama case. Hussain Nawaz went back after the interrogation that continued for two hours by JIT. The counsel of Prime Minister’s son was along with him during the hearing. Leaders and workers of Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) were gathered in large number outside the Judicial Academy to support Hussain Nawaz, who went away without talking to media. Sources have revealed that Hussain Nawaz is likely to be summoned again by JIT. Before the hearing of this case, Hussain said no questionnaire or any other document has been given to him yet. He said he would avoid to comment on any hypothesis. Hussain further added that he received the notice to appear before JIT yesterday, and was given only 24 hours to report. In a brief media talk before the hearing, Hussain Nawaz told that he received a notice to appear before JIT yesterday (Saturday), and was given the time of only 24 hours to report. He said that he will face JIT along with his counsel, and if he is not allowed to do that, he will give his viewpoint afterwards. Hussain Nawaz further added that no questionnaire or any other document has been given to him yet. He said he would give his stance before the JIT, and avoid to talk on any hypothesis. It is worth mentioning here that Hussain Nawaz earlier submitted a five-page application in Supreme Court’s registry raising objections on impartiality of two members of JIT, constituted to probe Sharif family’s offshore assets. The application stated that Bilal Rasool, a member of JIT from Securities & Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP), has inclinations towards a political party as he is real nephew of Mian Muhammad Azhar, who alongside his immediate family members, is a fervent aide of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). Details of social media accounts of Bilal Rasool’s wife were also mentioned in the application which showed her bias as she had posted several status in PTI’s favor but later deleted them following JIT’s formation. “This act of hers, in fact, raised alarms in the mind of the

Govt formulating Digital Pakistan Policy 2016-17

Minist r y of Infor mation Te c h n ol o g y and Telecommunications (MOITT) is formulating Digital Pakistan Policy 2016-17 to rapidly transform IT sectors of economy. According to an off icial document, the ministry will submit the policy document to Economic Coordination

Com m it tee ( ECC) for approval. The basic objective of the policy is to take into account the increasingly transformed role of Information Technology (IT) across all sectors of socio-economic development, accelerated digitization and a holistic knowledge based economy. The policy will serve as foundation of a holistic Digital Eco-system with advanced concepts and components for rapid delivery of next generation digital services, applications and content.

undersigned, as her removal of posts from her social media account indicates her anxiety to conceal her loyalty, devotion and unremitting support for the PTI,” stated the application. Hussain’s reservations regarding another member, Ahmer Aziz, stemmed from the fact that he was part of National Accountability Bureau’s (NAB) team probing Hudabya Paper Mills case during Musharraf’s era. Ahmer Aziz is a representative of State Bank of Pakistan (SBP). “Mr Ahmer’s induction in the JIT was received with skepticism as regards his impartiality, as it was recalled that he formed core part of the NAB’s investigation that had been carried out in respect of Hudabya Paper Mills during General Musharraf’s dictatorial regime,” narrated in the application. Hussain urged the country’s top court to “kindly pass appropriate orders in the interest of justice, equity and fair play to ensure a fair and impartial investigation into the case”. Responding to Hussain Nawaz’s objection, PTI Chaimran Imran Khan said it is not surprising to hear that Hussain Nawaz is reluctant to appear before JIT. His father, Nawaz Sharif, also couldn’t play cricket under neutral umpires. Imran said it seems that the habit of controlling everything runs through their family, and that is the reason he is reluctant to appear before JIT.

Daniyal Aziz levels new accusations towards Imran Khan

Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz leader Daniyal Aziz termed Pakistan Tehreek-eInsaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan as an absconder. Spea k i ng to med ia on Sunday, Aziz said that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif never asked for exemption from court hearings. “Imran Khan is afraid of appearing of being investigated. He is an absconder and has not appeared before joint investigation team,” he said. Aziz stated that PML-N is a party which respects

the constitution and state institutions. He added that a JIT has been formed for investigation against Khan since 2014. The party leader stated that Hussain Nawaz received a notice yesterday for appearing before JIT — probing the offshore wealth of Sharif family in Panama Case — and they appeared before the probe team today. “We have always respected the judicial system,” the PML-N leader said.

LONDON— Formula One is feeling a fresh wave of optimism under its new owners, while Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso are the two most popular drivers, according to an extensive fan survey released. The Motorsport Network’s Global Fan Survey, carried out in 15 languages and with feedback from 194 countries, found fans liked the sport’s new direction. The data was gathered since the season-opening Australian Grand Prix in March and published to coincide with this weekend’s showcase Monaco Grand Prix. U.S.-based Liberty Media took over as commercial rights holders in January, with former commercial supremo Bernie Ecclestone moving aside. The data revealed that, compared to a 2015 survey, there was a 44 percent increase in fans’ belief that Formula One was ‘the pinnacle of

motorsport’ and a 43 percent improvement in the statement that the sport fields ‘the best drivers’. It also showed that the average age of a Formula One fan was coming down -- 26 percent of those who took part were under 25 -- with an average age of below 36. There were also more female respondents than previously, albeit still only 10 percent of the total. But fewer fans were watching regularly compared to 2015 due to dwindling freeto-air opportunities. Hamilton, now a triple world champion, saw his popularity double compared to 2015 and the Briton commands a level of global fan support not seen since the heyday of seven-times champion Michael Schumacher. The Mercedes driver’s support was strongest in Europe and the Americas. Ferrari drivers Sebastian Vettel and Kimi

eading development at early grade lays a strong education foundation for entire life of a child. Early reading practice improves comprehension and understanding ability of a child that results in later years’ education and brings prudent impact on studyingcore subjects such as science, mathematics and computer. Reading ability in early grades make children familiar to the world of imagination and creation which embark learner’s motivation and interest towards studying other subjects in the school. Thus children who mastered their early reading skills attain desirable learning outcomes in education. Unfortunately in Pakistan there is lack of reading culture at home and in schoolthat encourage young learners towards reading. Parents and children spend an ample proportion of their free time in watching T.V or playing games on mobiles and computers. It badly effects children study habits and detract them from reading. That is whythe outcomes in children’s reading competency remainsalarming especially at primary level. Studies of Pakistan Coalition for Education 2016, government primary schools data shows that 52% of children in class 5 can-not read a story and 56% cannot read a sentence in English. This deficiency results in low scores in children’ learning assessmentsthat ultimately causes more dropouts at early grades. Observations in schools reveal that several factors contribute towards this issues such as; traditional teaching approach, teachers’ lack of interest towards bringing change and improvement, inadequate facilities in school & home and lack of parents’support in improving reading skills in their children.Above all the most important aspect thatput the greater impact on child’s learning is lack of parents’ interest and support at home.First lady Laura Bush states, “As parents, the most important thing we can do is read to our children early and often. Reading is the path to success in school and life. When children learn to love books, they learn to love learning.” - Considering this fact education experts and pedagogical leaders suggestparents’ active role and engagement in developing children reading

Youm-e-Takbeer celebrated with national zeal ISLAMABAD—The whole nation celebrated Youm-eTakbeer with zeal and fervour yesterday to commemorate the historic event when it successfully conducted a series of nuclear tests in the Chaghi mountain of Balochistan province on May 28, 1998, making the country’s defence impregnable. With demonstration of atomic capabilities, Pakistan became the first nuclear power of Islamic and 7th world power

under the bold leadership of Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, who stood firmly in the face of international pressures and lucrative offers of aid to abandon the plan to conduct the tests. Youm-e-Takbeer, which literally means “the day when Allah Almighty’s name was exalted” is celebrated every year with great enthusiasm to remind the struggle and great odds Pakistan faced in achieving the nuclear capabilities

despite international pressures. As a result of the nuclear explosions, the nation had to endure economic sanctions imposed by the international community but it stood by its principled stand on the issue of achieving national deterrence. To mark the day, special prayers offered for peace, progress and propserity of the country. Various ceremonies and seminars organized in which eminent scientists, intellectuals,

defence analysts and notable personalities paid tributes to the team of nuclear scientists who did raise Pakistan’s strategic status in the comity of nations and signified the principle of self-reliance. Radio Pakistan and television channels also broadcasted special programmes in which defence analysts, journalists, educationists, and intellectuals participated and highlight significance of the day.

every day. Such kind of practices demonstrate that the parents give value to reading. Parents engaging in readingand enjoying in day to day lives consequently make children motivated towards reading. Following are some ways and approaches parents can implement with their children in their early grades; Name Labelling; Make small cards and write names of household things on the cards. Label the cards on things in different places in the home such as; in the kitchen, corridor and drawing room etc. Practice reading the word labels with your child and encourage him/ her to read the words aloud. Change and replace different words time to time. Reading with your child; Make daily reading routine at home. Read a story or children magazine. Involve your child in reading small words and sentences along you. Ask the child about the pictures in the story. Provide chance to child to read story. Listen your child while reading and discuss on the characters in the story. Ask small questions to probe and give ample time to think and response. Appreciate your child on his/her efforts in reading. Increase reading time and continue this practice regularly. Daily story at bed time; Develop a routine story telling time at home before going to bed. You can read a story or tell a story to your child on daily bases. Reading corner at home; Arrangea reading corner for your children to study at home. Select a nice place with proper light and ventilation where there is no noise disturbance. Place a table and two/three chairs for your children to sit. Make a regular routine of reading and doing homework in that place. Your children will do their routine study in that place and they will feel ownership and encouragement towards study. Bring newspaper, children magazines and children story books to home and enrich the reading corner with the time. Manage some time to spend with your child in reading corner. This will boost child’s motivation and confidence towards daily reading. Study Timetable; Make a timetable for your child at home. Arrange one reading time daily in that time table along with study time for other subjects. This timetable will help you maintain your child’s daily reading practice at home.

Tourists flock to Hunza as temperatures rise The G-7 nations have vowed to step up their fight against terrorism after this week’s Manchester attack. In a joint statement, adopted at the summit in Sicily, Italy, the G-7 nations demanded action from internet providers and social media firms against extremist content online.

Mount Everest Day

HUNZA— whenever temperatures rise in the plains of Pakistan, people turn their attention to cooler places that provide an endless natural beauty. One such place is the Hunza Valley, which has become quite popular in recent times. Home to cold springs and clear lakes, during the summer, Hunza Valley is hustling and bustling with tourists. The valley has an element of peace and serenity that is not present in other tourist spots like Murree, which becomes

as congested during the summer as any large urban centre in Pakistan. Blessed with a picture-perfect landscape, blissful winds, and towering snowcapped peaks, Hunza Valley is deemed as a heaven on earth. Tourists coming to the valley are welcomed by the enchanting views and gushing springs and rivers. Hunza has an excess of soul-pleasing views that can satisfy anyone. Attabad Lake, which came into existence just a few years back, is now a popular

destination for tourists. The lake is a spectacular shade of blue, and reflects the snowcapped mountains surrounding it. What started off as a natural calamity is now an attraction for both local and foreign tourists. To replace the part of the highway that was submerged by the lake, a tunnel has been bored through the mountains running next to the lake. The tunnels are a part of the Karakoram Highway that goes all the way to the Khunjerab border pass into

China. Tourists can indulge in various activities at Attabad Lake. Along with fishing for trout, visitors can go boating in the lake. To increase the facilities for tourists visiting the lake, the government should undertake concrete steps to ease their visit to the lake. Facilities like a resort near the lake, would not only increase the number of tourists and facilitate them, but would also be a source of income for the locals.

China dismisses, India panics over prospect of Chinese ‘spy pigeon’ BEIJING— A pigeon with a tag bearing numbers written in Chinese has thrown Indian authorities into a f lutter, as fears spread that the feathered prisoner could be a Chinese spy. The Chinese public, meanwhile, has ridiculed the accusation as groundless and ludicrous. The pigeon, which was reportedly caught in the disputed border region between China and India on May 20, has become a full-blown suspect of

Chinese espionage. Prestigious Chinese newspaper ‘People’s Daily’ quoting the Hindustan Times, reported that the bird was found with an inscribed tag on its left leg. This is not the first time that a pigeon has been singled out by India authorities as a potential perpetrator of foreign espionage. In 2016, a white pigeon was caught and caged by Indian security forces in a border district adjoining Kashmir,

as it was suspected of having Pakistani “links.” Such seizures have been ridiculed across Chinese social and traditional media. Many have suggested that, instead of punishing an innocent bird, Indian authorities should first deal with the country’s security shortcomings. “After reading the information circulating online, I would say that the bird might be a homing pigeon participating in a contest. Pigeons used for

contests are normally tagged with rings bearing numbers and characters; I see no reason for Indian authorities to panic about it,” one citizen wrote on Sina Weibo. “Despite its large population and territory, India remains a country without a shred of security. May be it should start to trust its neighbors, rather than making groundless accusations,” wrote another.

India trying to institute Hindu domination in IOK: Sartaj

We aspire for peace and desire progress, prosperity and welfare for the entire humanity, President Mamnoon Hussian

President Mamnoon Hussain has said that if we want to come out of the quagmire of our problems and follow the path of development and stability then we will have to follow the Charter of Madina in its true spirit as it is the first and fundamental document on the modern concept of state. President Mamnoon Hussain said this while addressing the National Seminar on “Reconstruction of Pakistani Society in the light of Charter of Madina” at International Islamic University here in Islamabad on Friday. Federal Minister for Religious Affairs

and Interfaith Harmony Sardar Muhammad Yousuf, Chairman HEC Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed, President and Rector IIUI were also present. The President greatly appreciated the Fatwa issued by the Ulemas of all schools of thoughts condemning terrorism and extremism. He further said that it is a momentous occasion in the history of Pakistan when our scholars have joined hands against this menace. He applauded the extraordinary efforts of ulemas in achieving this milestone. The President expressed his satisfaction that after the

experiences and events of the last century we are deliberating on reconstructing the society in the light of sacred document of Charter of Madina. He also stated that being Muslims we aspire for peace in the whole world and desire progress, prosperity and welfare for the entire humanity. The President also added that by following this belief Pakistan has always played an active role for global peace and will continue to do so in future also. The President also emphasized that a counter narrative needs to be built to negate the narratives of extremism, hate and

terrorism to promote peace, harmony and respect of others and impress upon contemporary world that the ideas they harbour about Pakistan and Muslim Ummah in this regard have nothing to do with reality. Therefore, such seminars have great significance and importance in this respect. The President also said that the Charter of Madina was not created to protect communal interests, nor it related to Muslims only but it was a broad based agreement which aimed at the welfare and protection of whole humanity.

Adviser to Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz has said that India is trying to bring demographic changes to institute Hindu domination in Indian occupied Kashmir (IOK). He expressed these views in a letter written to United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres, elaborating India’s blatant violation of UN Charter and international covenants and conventions on human rights in IOK. In the letter, the Advisor said, “India plans for demographic changes in IOK. A recent proposal by the 31-member Parliamentary Standing Committee on Home Affairs of the Indian Government to permanently settle the ‘West Pakistan refugees’ in IOK has created unrest among the people of the Kashmir Valley. He said, “The so-called West Pakistan refugees do not hail from the State of Jammu and Kashmir. The Indian Government is trying slowly and gradually to integrate them into Indian-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, which is not only a violation of the state Constitution, but also a

violation of Security Council resolutions on the Kashmir dispute, which forbid any material change until the implementation of the resolutions.” “Another attempt to change the demography of Indian-occupied Kashmir is a move in which children of Hindu families who do not belong to Jammu and Kashmir are being issued permanent resident certificates. To date, 500 such certificates have been issued to students in the Kishtwar district of Jammu, out of a proposed 5,000 in total,” the Adviser said. He informed that, “Recently, a new proposal has been floated to establish ‘Sainik’ colonies by allotting land to retired army personnel who have served in Kashmir for a minimum of three years and to the families of army personnel who died during fighting in Kashmir. Under the guise of a welfare measure, an attempt is being made to settle non-Kashmiris in IOK.” Sartaj Azizi underscored that, “Non-Kashmiri Hindu industrialists are being allotted land for establishing

industries in areas other than industrial zones whereas the Government of India has asked the state government to earmark land for separate towns in the Valley for Kashmiri pandits, who are presently settled in different Indian states.” “Land for separate townships was identified in seven places, out of which land at three places has been shortlisted. While the Hurriyat leadership in IOK and the general public have always welcomed the return of Kashmiri pandits to their ancestral lands, they oppose the idea of separate townships, which would not only enable the Indian Government to settle nonKashmiris there but would also enable manipulation on religious, social and political lines,” Sartaj Aziz said. The Adviser apprised that, “The human rights situation in Occupied Kashmir has been a matter of profound concern for a long time, particularly the largescale killing and blinding of hundreds of Kashmiris including children, using pellet guns.” “Injuries and

maimings, disappearances, false encounters, arrests and custodial killings and the rape of Kashmiri women, used as a tool to terrorize them, as well as systematic changes in demography to convert a Muslim-majority territory into a Muslim-minority state, are commonplace,” he added. He stated that, “India has not only constantly violated the Charter of the United Nations and all the international covenants and conventions on human rights in Indian-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, but also blatantly disrespected Security Council and United Nations Commission for India and Pakistan resolutions on Kashmir.” Sartaj Aziz said, “It is the obligation of the United Nations to implement the Security Council resolutions on Jammu and Kashmir and to fulfill the promises made to the Kashmiris seventy years ago. The resolution of issue will not only end the immense sufferings of the millions of people of Jammu and Kashmir, but also bring peace and stability in South Asia.”
