BALLOONIES
FROM YOUR COMMITTEE
BALLOONIES EDUCATE - PROMOTE - INFORM
Hello And A Very Warm Welcome From Your Committee And Back Office. Your Chairman John Lee is currently recuperating at home, and so I've been asked to write this month's intro to Balloonies. This edition is very much focused on our NABAS Exhibition on 18th & 19th October and why you really do need to be a part of this amazing event. But first, let's talk about NABAS and reiterate who we are as an organisation, in the hope of helping us all understand our unique status, and why we are members. We are a group made up of some 450 businesses. We are owned by ALL the members and we are here to support ALL the members. Whatever profits we make stays within NABAS for NABAS members. We have no ulterior motives other than promote our industry and our respective businesses. We are not answerable to any manufacturer, wholesaler or individual. We have a committee, which I'll be totally honest with you and say isn't perfect, and there is certainly room for improvement, but it's all we've got at the moment , and with the help of Kate and Hilary, we are trying to make the best of what we have, BUT this is YOUR organisation. In 2015, we really need to see some of you becoming actively involved. We can't make the changes you want without your contribution and support. Remember, this is your organisation so become an active part in shaping both YOUR and NABAS's future. So, what did some of us do over the past 12 months? Well, I came up with the strap line "NABAS, Helping You Take Your Business To A Higher Level", which I thought was quite brilliant, so that was me done for the year. We had a couple of meetings, our first Skype call (that's progress for you) and an absolute ton of emails. Through this, we created your new LOGO, almost completed the new website which will be live very soon, arranged training courses around the country, upset each other in some form or another, lost our Vice Chairman and two other committee members, negotiated rates for our AMAZING 2015 NABAS SHOW at Knebworth, answered numerous questions from fellow members, and did I mention my creation of the strap line "Helping You Take Your Business To A Higher Level"? Not bad for a bunch of unpaid part timers, but certainly nothing to get over complacent about! At this point, I really need to take a moment to acknowledge Hilary and Kate's involvement and support in all of this, as without them very little would be done. Our BIG Date in 2015 is THE NABAS EXTRAVAGANZA SHOW on 18th and 19th October at Knebworth House. I would need the rest of Balloonies to write about why you have to be there! We have some excellent trainers, and I can't tell you how thrilled I am to tell you Chris Horne is one of the teachers. If that wasn't enough to get you booking your place, we also have Matthew Lewis and Mitch Gilbert, both highly knowledgeable and respected teachers and award winning decorators. You also have the opportunity of attending Graham Lee's Twisting Class and Guido Verhof's Link-o-Loon class. You can even learn face painting techniques from Liz Bylett! We've put an amazing package together for you, and the entire weekend is yours for an unbelievable £349! This includes: All your classes over the two days, morning refreshments, lunch, afternoon tea, coffee and cakes, Evening Meal, AN EVENING PARTY!!, your overnight Accommodation at the 4 Star Novotel, and an Exhibition on Sunday! All this for ONLY £349. We've managed to reduce the price by £50 due to the revenues received from exhibitors, and as I said in the very beginning, whatever profits we make are passed on to the members! If you can't spend the weekend with us and can't attend our Party and don't need accommodation, you can purchase a day Pass for £139!

ContH... To put this into perspective, I was recently invited to a weekend seminar at Downton Abbey ( Highclere Castle in Hampshire) at a cost of £5,000 (YES FIVE THOUSAND POUNDS) and if I wanted to invite my partner for afternoon drinks I could do so for an additional £295. NO FOOD, NO PARTY and ACCOMMODATION WAS EXTRA! If you haven't booked your place yet, ring Kate or Hilary now on 01989 762204 or email: info@nabas.co.uk. This is a ridiculously low price to invest in yourself, and network with people within your industry. We should never stop learning and never believe we can do everything on our own. Attending this event shows your dedication, commitment and foresight in "Helping You Take Your Business To A Higher Level"! We have industry leading trainers ready and willing to help you grow your business. This show is all about you. There will be no hard sell on the day, and you won't be told you need to buy equipment you would probably never use. It's a chance to learn new skills, brush up on old techniques and talk to fellow business owners and get help and answers to the questions that may be holding you back. I can't possibly imagine how anyone wouldn't see the value in investing £349 or to put it another way less than £1 per day in 2015, to attend this show!! So what else is in store for 2015? Well, that's up to you! Are you brave enough to join us on our journey and help shape your industry's future? I hope so! George Oustayiannis. George Oustayiannis is a director of GO International and the wholesale representative on the NABAS committee. You can contact him by email at george@gointernational.co.uk or call him on 01438 745746.
NEW COMMITTEE MEMBERS An introduction to your two new committee members: Jo Birch - Owner of Special Occasion Balloons based in Kings Langley, Hertfordshire. Although fairly new to the balloon industry I bring with me 30 years experience of sales in the fashion accessory industry. I have great personal interest in design and have found that balloons are a perfect industry within which to be creative and innovative. As a newbe in the field I have already experienced the passion and enthusiasm within the industry which is infectious!!! I strongly believe in good customer service and the importance of delivering the right (required product) at the right price at the right time. As an industry we are only as good as our weakest-link. It is imperative that there is an infrastructure to support and nurture members to ensure that the reputation of the industry is upheld.
Mitch Gilbert - Owner of Rainbow Balloons & Balloons World Wide Ltd A Veteran of 30 years in the Balloon Industry and proud owner of Rainbow Balloons-Retail (1985) and Balloons World Wide Ltd (1989)-Trade. A cofounder of NABAS and a former committee member during the early years. I am very pleased to be back on board of the NABAS Committee and wish to assist current and new members within the industry and help project NABAS into the future.
