My mother is from Mandeville, Jamaica. Vinny and I decided to get married here because we wanted to share my Jamaican heritage with our friends and family. On one of my many trips to Jamaica, I toured Rose Hall and was stunned by the beauty of this historic plantation. During our search for wedding venues, Rose Hall was top on our list. In addition to its beauty, the plantation is accessible for guests of all ages. It is close to several hotels, and the Montego Bay Airport. With all these accommodations, we knew Rose Hall would be the perfect location for our special day.

Can you talk about how wearing a fragrance like CH Privée could be provocative?

Q&a with

As with any other fragrance, the way a woman decides to wear CH Privée will share many things about herself. Some women wear much perfume while others may just spray a light touch to keep their scent intimate, so that their partner is the only one to perceive it. With this fragrance, the latter might be the optimal approach, but I always say a perfume is a personal accessory, and every woman should determine how she wears it.

carolina herrera

Can you talk to us about CH Privée in general, the private moments that inspire the fragrance and why are they significant?

How do you keep inspired?

CH Privée, the newest fragrance by House of Herrera, is a perfume inspired by a woman’s private moments. These moments empower us, when we are still and thoughtful and also when we have the luxury of being alone with our beloved.

Inspiration is always there; it’s a part of my natural curiosity. It might come from two women walking down the street, or maybe it’s a phrase that you read in a book, a photograph or a scene from a movie. All these memories remain in your subconscious, and suddenly, when you’re working on a new fragrance, they all come up; without knowing why or how, they’re there.

Did this influence your choice of leather as a conductive thread in CH Privée? We’d used leather before, but it is the first time we’ve used leather in a women’s fragrance. Leather is usually associated with strength, with power, and from my perspective, this is real femininity; strength and power.

What was the most important thing for you when creating this fragrance? Every time we create a fragrance at House of Herrera, we start from the classic. Our perfumes are made with exquisite traditional ingredients, the ones that have been used in perfumery for centuries. We give them a modern twist, and I think there lays the success of our approach.

32

Do you think there is something new to privacy in our day in age? Do you think that privacy has a different facet to it? I’ve always thought that it’s critical to have a little mystery, and now when we’re flooded by oversharing, and people’s lives are so exposed; it’s the perfect time for CH Privée. Nowadays maintaining some personal privacy is crucial; after all, there is nothing more sensual and feminine than a drop of mystery.

Is there a particular woman that inspired the fragrance? For me, there is never a specific woman that inspires a fragrance. I write a script for this woman that sometimes I’d like to be. In this particular case, it’s a very feminine woman, bright and alluring with a sense of ease; she is powerful, bold, and strong. She is a woman you discover with time, not somebody that gives it all away at once.

How would you describe the role of CH Privée within the House of Herrera universe? The Carolina Herrera woman is strong, feminine, and fun. Throughout the development of the different perfumes within House of Herrera, she has blossomed beautifully and now, I cannot think of a woman that represents better the elegance and timelessness of Carolina Herrera.

Talk to us a little bit more about how the concept of femininity works in this fragrance. Nothing is more feminine than a powerful woman. There is this image that power and femininity don’t go together; I believe the opposite and focused on that while creating CH Privée. Those moments when you are most reserved and mysterious, when you are sharing intimacy, are amazingly powerful because they show your depth.

How did you decide on the packaging? Is red bold and chic at the same time? Red is a crucial color for House of Herrera. A color that I adore, and that I’ve used many times before. Here, the color red is combined with leather, which to me is the perfect mix of empowerment, sensuality, and femininity. I love the idea of juxtaposing this ultra feminine bow with leather; the charm of CH Privée only rises allowing these opposing moments.

Out of this awareness, Ophellia, along with Merrick Cousley, Courtney Sappleton, Marsha Corrie and Cornel Green then founded the Jamaica Wedding Professionals Association (JWPA), Jamaica first formal wedding industry association. JWPA’s main objective is to bridge the gap between clients and service providers, both locally and overseas. Destination weddings is the fastest growing segment of the over $300 billion dollar global wedding market and Jamaica is consistently in the top 5 places to get married and honeymoon in the world. ural, rustic, but with many reasonably priced places to stay and things to do, charming Clarendon is a great location for the true thrill seeker to visit. The wedding party must be eclectic and willing to forego some of the high-end comforts however. But for the traveller who is into a ‘home away from home’ vibe, then this countryside chic parish will do just fine. It offers a mineral bath with one of the highest known radioactivity in the world, the Halse Hall Great House, Portland Point Lighthouse, the beautiful St. Paul’s Parish Church and numerous b&bs and small hotels.

70

71

Wedding Ceremony For the wedding ceremony, the number of guests will determine where you will end up saying ‘I Do’ as most venues cannot accommodate large groups. On a dry, balmy day Clarendon Paradise Garden, a well maintained park can accommodate just about any number. Wedding Chateau Royale Jamaica, Fairfield Guest House, and the Milk River Hotel and Spa offer great options for indoor events.

Wedding Décor and More A wedding just ain’t the same without flowers, so to whip your venue in beautiful wedding condition reach out to Creative Flowers Jamaica, Kemar’s Floral Arrangements & Weddings or Glam Events. Transportation Numerous taxis and minibuses are on every route throughout the parish. Nonetheless, there is nothing as convenient as having your own ride. Ensure your ride can manage the variegated terrain.

Food and Catering Your sumptuous wedding fare will most likely be an all Jamaican, Indian or Chinese buffet. Roti & dhal with generous servings of curry can be found in this parish once you have the right connections. Though there are several restaurants found along every mile, private catering may just provide the best variety for your event. But if you cannot make those links then Juici Patties (yes, they serve more than patties) Homar’s Roti & Grill, Murray’s Fish & Jerk Hut and Daily Delicious are just a few of the places which will provide meals to ensure that your guests are well fed and satisfied.

Exploration And now for the fun part. As the third largest parish, Clarendon does have a bit of terrain to cover. Visit Vernam Field, a former WW11 US Air Force airfield, where drag racing now takes place. The Portland Point Lighthouse has the highest tower in the island, standing at a height of 145 feet. The Tower flashes a white light every 15 seconds. Milk River Bath is counted among the best natural spas in the world. The relative radioactivity of the water has

Home to some of the island’s best caves, most beautiful Victorian & Georgian buildings, best fishing villages and historic significance, St. Catherine is prepared to welcome you. Two facts take pride of place in St. Catherine’s are: 1. Spanish Town was the country's first capital city. 2. The establishment of Jamaica's first free village in the parish. Be-U-tiful D’Zines, also in Portmore, will help you create the perfect backdrop for your special day. The Wedding Planner Flowers & Gifts will take care of all your needs if you are in the heart of Spanish Town.

STORY

&

MYTH Kayla Hough skedaddled out of Canada in March 2011 to avoid the wrath of winter. Destination: Montego Bay, sunny Jamaica. One trip turned into 15 over the next six years. And during one of them, as she taxied to a beach party, she met her future husband, Bobby. Kayla had to search for a dress to be ready for the nuptial day, but she had already decided on the jewelry to complement it: Story and Myth blessings beads. Inspired by the memory of a necklace her father had given her when she was 8 years old, Kristie Stephenson had launched Story and Myth in 2011. It is a line of handmade jewelry fashioned using various beads and precious stones, and meant to express the connectedness of everyone in the world. Job’s Tears—hard, white, oval seeds with naturally occurring holes, are the signature components of every creation. Kristie calls the collection ‘blessing beads.'

82

The most popular Story and Myth pieces are bracelets. Neckwear, or malas, are made with 108 seeds, a number considered sacred in Dharmic religions like Hinduism and Buddhism. Malas are prayer beads more than they are fashion statements.

Krystal Chong, one of Story and Myth’s earliest customers and author of What The Hell Am I Supposed To Do With My Life?!, loved that the beads looked like pearls, but they were seeds. Delicate but not stiff. A few things distinguish Story and Myth’s garnishments and have made them increasingly beloved by women and men: First, they are made almost exclusively from local materials. Job’s Tears grow wild on grass near rivers in Jamaica. Second, people who would otherwise not have an income earn each time a Story and Myth piece is birthed. Local farmers collect the seeds, and Kristie pays them. And persons with disabilities are the artisans. In 2014 Kristie formed a partnership with The Sir John Golding Rehabilitation Center in Kingston, which provides jobs for former patients and persons with disabilities. Third, each piece is made with thought and intention; the artisans often pray before making them.
