This photography project was aimed at showing the beauty of the contrast of our environment and looking at ordinary things from different angles.

Often we are passing by interesting places without even paying attention to them, they seem us to be simple and completely not beautiful. But if you look at the usual things from a different angle, then they begin to take on a different look, and sometimes even meaning. This photo project was carried out as part of the foundation art course for international students at HIC College. All that was needed was to look at familiar things from another angle and add contrast to learn how to look at all situations in life from different perspectives, to see how they differ and to find the best options. Changing colors to B&W and adding contrast to the pictures can make us to see new interesting features in very simple everyday things.

Playing with light and reflections. We usually do not think how different materials can distort and reflect the light. Here we can see how B&W contrast can turn usual mezzanine floor in a shopping mall into an abstract image. 5

Wooden cladding wall texture. Contrast here helps to focus on the texture, pattern and shade created by each of the cladding pieces. 6

Open windows. Sometimes even open windows can create an interesting picture playing with shadow and light reflection. 9

CONTRAST

Reflection and distortion. We rarely look at different reflections rather than ourselves, but sometimes it worth to take a look how different objects can reflect and even distort the environment around us. 10

Staircase. Experimenting with contrast and colors can make even usual staircase, that we pass by everyday, to look completely different. We start seeing the shape, textures and shadows more clear than we usually do. 13

CONTRAST

Structure. Looking at buildings structure in B&W can help us to focus on the shapes and how different single components cooperate with each other to create a full picture. 14

Macro. It is very rare that we take a close up look at different objects around us, but they actually can become a source of inspiration. 17

Buildings and reflections. We are used to look at buildings that we pass everyday, however, sometimes they can get unusual features due to sky reflections. Sometimes soft, sometimes sharp, dark or light. 18

Minimalism. Sometimes it is interesting to look at different objects individually exploring its shapes, sized, textures, materials and relation to the rest of the space. 21

CONTRAST

Leading lines. Leading lines are important aspects of any photographed picture and even design. Contrast helps to identify them clearly. 22

Natural materials. Natural materials are playing huge role in any design, but we not so often looking at them that close that we can see all different textures and patterns nature gives us. 25
