Forest deptt. to monitor Amur Falcon roosting sites

DIMAPUR: To facilitate safe migration of the birds, the forest department, Dimapur division would be carrying out routine patrolling in all roosting sites of Amur Falcon. Informing the general public in a press release, the divisional forest officer (DFO) Dimapur division stated that movement of any form of weapon, poison, trapping material, air gun and catapult would be liable for seizure in and around the roosting site. According to DFO, all roads would be monitored and vehicular checking would commence with
assistance from the district administration and superintendent of police, Dimapur. It has been cautioned that violators would be penalized under Wildlife Act 1972. Further, any negligence/violation detected from any villages, the funds under grants-in-aid to VDB would invariably be withheld for that particular year, vide Government notification dated August 16, 2014. Meanwhile, DFO Dimapur division has requested all responsible villager councils and student bodies to extend support in protecting the raptors.

DIMAPUR: Based on specific information about the movement of arms peddlers, 29 Assam Rifles under the aegis of Headquarters 6 Sector Assam Rifles launched an operation in a general area at 4th Mile, Dimapur, on September 29 where two arm suppliers were apprehended by the AR personnel. During the operation, the two arms peddlers identified as Temjenungsang (24), and Aliba Longchar (20), both residents of Dimapur were apprehended along with two .22 Pistols and was later handed over to Diphupar police station, Dimapur along with the seized weapons. In a separate incident, based on specific information in general area railway colony, Dimapur, 29 Assam Rifles, also apprehended another arms dealer along with one .22 pistol the same day. The accused has been identified as Abel Sema (42), a resident of Dimapur, and he was later handed over to East Police

NVCO lauds anti-extortion team, KADTA DIMAPUR: Nagaland Voluntary Consumers’ Organization (NVCO) has expressed appreciation and support to “Anti-Extortion Team Dimapur Police” for its commendable action against illegal collection of tax by several transporters/ factions and the Karbi Anglong and Dimapur Transporters Association (KADTA) for its resolution against paying illegal collection. In a press release, NVCO president Kezhokhoto Savi asked for how long were Nagas going to fight against illegal collection of cash on highways and market places and unabated taxation? Asserting no one was above the law and every citizen had to abide by the law, Savi pointed out that as per Article 265 of the Constitution of India “No tax shall be levied except by authority of Law”. He also mentioned that the Nagaland government vide order dated 22.06.2009 & 08.12.2009 has banned collection of cash in the check-gates or in any part of the highways.
ENPO condemns Kiphire incident DIMAPUR: Eastern Nagaland Peoples’ Organization (ENPO) has vehemently condemned the killing of one Athrenmu Yimchunger, “leacy speaker”, Yimchunger region, FGN, who was found shot dead at Longya Ward, Kiphire town on September 29. Eastern Nagaland Peoples’ Organization (ENPO) in a press release issued by its president, Chingmak Chang, and joint secretary, Manlang, have urged the superintendent of police, Kiphire, to expedite the enquiry into the incident to book the culprit (s) and award befitting punishment as per the law.

HSS for ‘clean’ Durga Puja
DIMAPUR: Keeping in view the nationwide ‘Clean India’ movement, Hindu Seva Samiti (HSS) will be celebrating Durga Puja and Shub Vijaya Dashmi under the theme “Clean Dimapur, Green Dimapur, Save Energy”. The Samaj has requested all the puja pandals to conduct painting, poster, essay and Quiz competitions in their respective pandals on the theme so that the pandals can be an education centre to educate people on cleanliness and saving power energy. The following rules and regulations have been set out: 1) All Puja committees are requested maintain discipline and decorum at all cost, so that the image of Hindu faith is held high. 2) To ensure that puja pandals do not disturb public thoroughfare and pandals to display posters and banners on the theme of “Clean Dimapur, Green Dimapur, Save Energy”. 3) To ensure that loud speakers/music do not disturb the neighbourhood and general public. Sound system to be put off by 10 p.m, 4) Puja committees are requested to keep strict vigil to prevent/ban consumption of alcohol during puja and immersion functions; 5) Only devotional songs and music to be played in pandals and playing of drums, cymbals and conchs to be encouraged, 6) Puja committees are to keep a strict vigil on suspected or unclaimed articles like bags, carton etc. in or around the Pandals and to immediately inform Police, 7) Puja committees are requested to make the
pandals eco-friendly by banning the use of plastics, plastic food plates and plastic glasses, 8) Vijaya Dashmi procession for the immersion would start sharp at 9.30 am, on October 4 from the City Tower Junction. Trucks carrying idols are requested to assemble at the City Tower Junction and occupy their respective sequence. Only one truck is allowed for each Puja Committee, 9) Members of all Puja Committees are requested to wear the ethnic / traditional costumes or white Chola-pyjamas during the immersion procession; 10) To control river pollution, all committees are requested not to bring any type of waste along with the Idols, 11) All committees have been asked to bring any unattended idol lying on the road side for immersion, 12) Committees are requested to control their own members and prevent scuffles with the others, 13) Only those card holders would be allowed inside the Ghat and to take proper care of their Idols till the immersion, 14) Committees are requested to use only diyas/deepaks (Oil Lamp) in their pandals and temples. Candles spread pollution as are made of chemicals whereas diyas and deepaks are more eco-freindly, 15) All Puja Committees are requested to co-operate with the District Administration, Police, Dimapur Municipal Corporation and Hindu Seva Samiti to ensure a smooth and joyous conduct of the pujas and immersion.

D I M AP U R : A t wo - d ay hands-on workshop was organized by Kohima Science college, Jotsoma (KSCJ) on “basic astronomy and telescope making for school students” at Kohima September 26 and 27. Inter University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics (IUCAA), Pune provided support and resource persons for various training sessions. The workshop saw participation from nine schools and colleges from Manipur and Nagaland. Altogether, 60 students participated in the workshop. The workshop was coordinated by Dr.C. Kachhara and Veta Nyienu, assistant
professor, department of physics, KSCJ. The resource persons included Dr. Gazi Ameen, associate professor and Dr. Rupjyoti Gogoi, assistant professor from department of physics, Tezpur university and Samir Dhurde and Tushar Purohit, science educator from IUCAA, Pune. DIMAPUR: Ato Area GBs’ Association (AAGBA), organizations and unions have mourned the demise of Late Ghokuto Kiyeshe Zhimomi, founder of Ghokuto village and steering committee member NSCN (I-M) who passed away September 23. In a condolence message, AAGBA stated that late Zhimomi was a true and dedicated leader, who was committed and worked for the welfare of the Sumi community in particular and Nagas in general. The association further stated that the vacuum created in the society would be difficult to fill. AAGBA conveyed condolences to the bereaved family.

DIMAPUR: Personnel of Kohima police manning Khuzama police check post on September 25, seized 150 kgs of ganja sealed in 15 packets inside a truck (Nl-08 A 1353). According to Kohima police, the truck was bound for Dimapur for Imphal. The driver of the truck identified as Subhash Khadka was arrested and the vehicle seized, police said. In this connection a case has been registered at Khuzama Police station for investigation.

With Mars regularly being in the news, this was a wonderful and exciting sight for the youngsters.

DIMAPUR: Rubber training institute of rubber board along with regional office, Dimapur organized two-day training on scientific rubber cultivation from September 26 and 27 at Nagaland science centre for the rubber growers of the state. The training was on rubber cultivation and the subjects covered included nursery practices, planting materials, root trainer technology, clones, planting and upkeep of plantations, crop protection techniques, rubber tapping and processing of latex and quality control in rubber processing. Altogether, 19 progressive rubber farmers selected from various rubbers growing areas of the state participated in the training. The participated faculty during the training included director of training institute, Dr. C. Kuruvilla Jacob, deputy director, Dr. Alice John. Others included development officer, V.D. Hari, assistant development officer Rashmi Rekha Majumdar and field officer Anand Lama.

Child found loitering
DIMAPUR: A non-local girl child aged around 3 to 4 years was found loitering around Fire Brigade Dimapur area. According to CHILDLINE Dimapur, the child was found by concerned citizen and handed over to Women Cell, Dimapur. The Women Cell in turn handed the girl child to Dimapur CHILDLINE. CHILDLINE said that the girl has identified herself as “Kamni” but could not provide any helpful information that could help in tracing her parents or their whereabouts.
