Hazard, Costa strikes see chelsea extend lead I would have protested differently: Mary Kom division has come to an end. Mourinho’s side are now five points clear, and are the last side in the league without a defeat to their name.
Falcao opens account to help Man Utd sink Everton
as tensions rose high between the London rivals. Eden Hazard was looking typically dangerous on the left wing for Chelsea, and the Belgian’s magic led to the hosts breaking the deadlock insdie of half an hour. The former Lille playmaker jinked inside on the ball, ghosting past one Arsenal player, before Koscielny brought him down in the area for a penalty. Hazard stepped up confidently and sent Wojciech Szczesny the wrong way from the spot kick. Arsenal responded well after going behind, but manager Arsene Wenger and Jose Mourinho provided the real entertainment following a fracas on the touchline. After
the two coaches settled down, the Gunners pressed for an equaliser. Jack Wilshere came close to levelling the game, but his first touch let him down when put through on goal. Arsenal tried to almost walk the ball in, but to no avail as their passing game fell short when approaching Chelsea’s area. In the second-half, Arsenal had a penalty shout with Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas handling the ball in the area to block a shot, but the referee was unmoved. Arsene Wenger’s side had still failed to register a shot on target, so the Frenchman brought on Alex OxladeChamberlain in pursuit for an equaliser. Jose Mourinho added

Messi, Neymar on target in Barca win MADRID, Oct 5 (AFP): Barcelona recovered from their midweek defeat to Paris SaintGermain as goals from Lionel Messi and Neymar handed them a comfortable 2-0 win away to nine-man Rayo Vallecano on Saturday. Valencia remained just two points behind the Catalans at the top of the table with a 3-1 win over champions Atletico Madrid thanks to three goals in the opening 13 minutes. After resisting some early pressure from Rayo, Barcelona killed the game off with two goals in as many minutes just after the half hour mark as Messi and Neymar took advantage of the hosts’ high line to continued their fine goal scoring form. Rayo were reduced to nine men after half-time as Jorge Morcillo and Javier Aquino were shown second yellow cards and Barca saw the game out to preserve their record of not conceding so far this season in La Liga. did not feel anything fishy in her bouts. “I faced a Korean in the first round itself. The only difference I
can tell you is that in Sarita’s case it was 70 per cent Sarita and 30 per cent Park. But it was 100 per cent Mary in my bout,” she said.
Imphal, Oct 5 (Agencies): Manipur boxer Laishram Sarita Devi received a hero’s welcome at Imphal on Saturday as she returned to her native state after refusing to accept a bronze medal at the Asian Games. She said she was ready for any decision the country’s boxing associations would take against her. Minutes after she landed at the airport in the morning, a tearful Sarita was garlanded by her well-wishers while a local band played in the background. On Tuesday, Sarita lost her lightweight (60 kg) semifinal bout against South Korea’s Jina Park. Protesting against what she called a ‘biased decision’, Sarita refused to wear the bronze medal on the winners’ podium on Wednesday and handed it over to Park. She later tendered an apology for the “emotional outburst”. Placards reading “We are proud of you” were held by those who greeted Sarita
at the airport. Members of the Royal Riders organized a motorcade for the boxer. Standing in an open jeep, a tearful Sarita waved to the people who had lined up along the road to Imphal airport. “I tendered an apology to save the Indian boxing team from any possible strictures. I’m ready to face any decision of the boxing association and federation,” a dejected Sarita said. She expressed resentment over the alleged lack of support and cooperation from Indian officials after she lost her semi-final match and registered a protest. The Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) issued a strong warning to the athlete and said it was not impressed by her behaviour at the medal ceremony. It said it has decided to let her off with a warning after she issued an unconditional apology and the Indian delegation assured the OCA it had not planned the incident.

London, Oct 5 (Agencies): A goal either side of half-time from Eden Hazard and Diego Costa was enough to earn Chelsea all three points against London rivals Arsenal at Stamford Bridge. Arsenal started the firsthalf very brightly, and took the game to the hosts in the early stages. Their possession in Chelsea’s half amounted to little, however, the Gunners only registeried two shots in the first 45 minutes - both of which were off target. Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois was forced off with what looked to be concussion following a collision with Arsenal forward Alexis Sanchez. But after the break in play, tackles were flying in

(L) Diego Costa celebrates scoring the second goal for Chelsea. (R) Radamel Falcao scores his first goal for Manchester United on Sunday.
Radamel Falcao scored his first goal for Manchester United in a 2-1 win over Everton on Sunday as the Red Devils won consecutive Premier League games for the first time under manager Louis Van Gaal. Angel Di Maria opened the scoring for the hosts before United ‘keeper David de Gea saved a penalty from Leighton Baines. The England international then picked out Steven Naismith, who put the teams level in the 55th minute. Falcao, who joined United on loan from Monaco during the summer, sealed his team’s win seven minutes later, slotting home past Tim Howard after di Maria’s shot landed in the Colombian’s path. De Gea made a stunning save in stoppage time to tip over the bar Bryan Oviedo’s left-foot shot from 20 meters. Falaco missed four chances but finally scored a poacher’s goal as United, which played without the suspended Wayne Rooney, claimed a deserved win after dominating from the start at Old Trafford. Di Maria put the hosts in front with a curled effort past Howard from Juan Mata’s cross for his third goal of the season before Naismith got the better of Luke Shaw and headed home. De Gea was decisive throughout, denying Leon Osman and Oviedo after stopping Baines’ penalty kick. Baines had scored 14 penalties from 14 attempts before his attempt at the bottom left was thwarted by De Gea.
New Delhi, Oct 5 (PTI): She understands the emotion behind L Sarita Devi’s tearful protest on the Asian Games podium but M C Mary Kom, who became the first Indian woman boxer to win a gold at the mega-event, said faced with a similar crisis, she would have shown dissent differently. Speaking to PTI after returning from Incheon, Mary Kom said she does not want to dwell on the controversy too much but supports her fellow Manipuri. “I really do not want to comment on it anymore. I feel sad for her, she should have won that semifinal bout. I understand her pain and fully support the issue she raised but personally I would have protested differently though I can’t say how. This is my personal thought but I support her,” said the Olympic bronzemedallist and five-time world champion. “I hope judges and referees are fair in all competitions, there is nothing more I can say on it.” Sarita had refused to accept her bronze medal during the Games’ presentation ceremony after controversially losing her semifinal bout to Korean Ji-na Park. Disconsolate on the podium, Sarita hung the bronze around Park’s neck before walking away as a mark of protest. Her actions prompted the International Boxing Association (AIBA) to open disciplinary proceedings against her even as the Olympic Council of Asia let her off with a warning. Sarita has since apologised for her actions on the podium. However, the Koreans did draw quite a bit of flak for the standard of judging in the bouts involving their boxers with five countries writing to AIBA to protest. Mary Kom, who defeated a Korean in the opening round, said she personally

the record for an unbeaten start to a La Liga season and Barca’s Chilean goalkeeper needed to be at his best early on to prevent Alberto Bueno firing Rayo into the lead. However, Rayo’s offside trap was being breached regularly and moments after Messi had a goal ruled out, the Argentine showed great composure to dink the ball over the advancing Tono to open the scoring. Barca doubled their
advantage a minute later as this time Munir El Hadaddi fed Neymar and the Brazilian took his time before drilling the ball into the far corner. Rayo could have been back in the game early after the restart had it not been for another fine save from Bravo to deny Leo Baptistao. However, any hope for Paco Jemez’s men was ended when Morcillo was given his
marching orders for an unnecessary lunge from behind on Neymar. Messi then missed a number of chances to add to his tally in the final quarter, leaving him still just two goals shy of Telmo Zarra’s all-time La Liga goals record of 251, before a disappointing afternoon for Rayo was rounded off when Aquino was also sent-off for a late challenge on Sergio Busquets.
