Diocesan vocation camp for students held

Dimapur, Oct 5: A threeday Diocesan vocation camp was held at St. Joseph Parish, Chumukedima, from October 3 to 5 for the students from Classes VII to XI where 66 selected students both boys and girls different parish have attended the camp. Rev. Fr. Carolus Neisalhou, Vicar General, Diocese of Kohima, led in the Holy Eucharistic celebration on Sunday. In his homily, he advocated the campers to be closer to God and enjoy God given life and

not to be drawn away by the worldly pleasures. On the closing day Rev. James Thoppil, Bishop of Kohima, extended his greetings and blessing to the campers. He urged the campers to take vocation as a challenge in life in becoming priests and religious sisters to serve mankind with dedication. Rev. Fr. Sajan, Parish priest of St. Joseph, Chumukedima, gave a cordial welcome to the young campers and made them feel at home. Rev. Fr.

Thomas, Vocation promoter, Diocese of Kohima, set the tone to the programmes. He brought out the love of God for human being and how He knows each one through our very life as a vocation. He also said vocation camp is a step ahead in listening to the Divine call. Rev. Fr. Lawrence, Director Don Bosco, Hostel, Jotsoma, highlighted with a power point: “What the Catholic Church gave me, Should I not give to the church?” He

spoke about the vocations of Daniel and Jeremiah, and the subsequent challenges in following the Lord and their faithfulness till the end of their lives. He quoted from the Scripture and explained how to be the salt and light of the world. He also explained how the rich young man followed the commandments but failed to follow the Lord. Rev. Fr. George, Rino, Commission for Education, Diocese of Kohima, brought forward the statistics of the

priests and religious working in the Diocese. He made them understand that the pioneer missionaries have given their lives for the growth of the local churches and now it is the young people who should take the responsibility of bringing up the Christian community. He highlighted the importance of nurturing of one’s vocation and challenged the young campers to make their parents proud by giving their lives to God. Peter Tep, Chairman of Tseminyu, brought out the importance of Bible with a song. He insisted them to consider the Bible as the treasure of life. He told the children to listen to God and allow God to talk to them. Rev.Fr. Patrick, Rector, St. Xavier’s Seminary, Jalukie, explained about the ‘Lord’s Prayer’ beautifully and systematically. He also said that resolution without asking God’s grace would fail miserably. The camp ended with a get together, where varieties of items were presented by the groups. Fr. Thomas Toretkiu expressed gratitude to the participants, Catholic women of Chumukedima, Fathers and Sisters of different congregation and to all well wishers who contributed to make the camp a success.

PHED conducts workshop in Zbto DIMAPUR: DWSM, PHED Zunheboto division has organized an advocacy workshop and rally on water and sanitation on September 29 at Youth Hall, Zunheboto, under the aegis of WSSO, PHED, Kohima. SDO (C) Zunheboto, Shanavas has highlighted on the basic necessity of sanitation, effects of improper disposal of liquid waste, harmful effects of excreta and ways to practice personal hygiene. Speech on communitization was delivered by JE, PHED Zunheboto, Er. G Mughalu, while the prevailing water quality, ill effects of water borne diseases and its preventive measures was presented by chemist, DWSM, PHED, Zunheboto, Benathung Tsopoe. Speech on sanitation, negative impacts of unhygienic village condition, importance of keeping the village and its surrounding clean was delivered by IEC consultant, DWSM, PHED, Zunheboto, Kiyeshe Chishi. The prog ramme was chaired by JE, Er. V Mughalu Sumi, while supervisor, Ghonito Sumi, invoked God’s blessings and the vote of thanks was proposed by EE, Er. Inashe Kiba. More than 250 students, teachers and PHED staff attended the workshop.

DIMAPUR, OCT 5 (NPN): Finance department on October 1 organized a felicitation programme for Toshi Aier on his appointment as the chief secretary of Nagaland at the Finance Department Conference Hall. The department also bade farewell to him as additional chief secretary & finance commissioner. A press release issued by finance department secretary Y. Kikheto Sema stated that OSD Taliremba had described Toshi Aier was a simple person whose decisions were straight

and precise. Y Kikheto Sema also described Toshi Aier as the “man in black” whose initiatives has been the driving force behind the finance department. He informed that through the direction of Toshi, data in the department have been collected meticulously and was now readily available. Toshi Aier stressed on the need for team work in any work place for the smooth functioning of a department. While narrating his experience, Toshi said that he lost

his father during his college days and that turned out to be a blessing in disguise for him because the incident prompted him to start aiming to excel towards higher heights. He initially joined service in Nagaland Police and was trained in Hyderabad. He was later selected as an IAS and eventually went on to be posted all over the State in various capacities. The prog ramme was chaired by OSD budget V. Kezo who stated that Toshi was an experienced and balanced senior bureaucrat.

In a release SYO president Kehounei-u Thernuo and general secretary Mhaphruoneizo Zumu stated that Thepa was threatened to chop of his head into four pieces, warned him with bullets if he return to his working place. SKK condemns AR atrocity Dimapur: All Sumi Students’ Union (SKK) has condemned the October 1 incident where the 29 Assam Rifles personnel have raided and verbally harassed the president and colleagues of Wester Sumi Students’ Union (WSSU) in the residence of the president, NST Colony, Dimapur, without any rhyme or reason. SKK finance secretary, Pitovi V Aye has questioned the responsible Assam Rifles office in-charge for the reason behind the raid even after identifying themselves. It has

demanded clear statement from the 29 Assam Rifles behind the ‘unlawful’ act meted to WSSU president and his colleagues. Stating that if the Assam Rifles fails to provide genuine and proper reason for the raid, SKK said it would clearly indicate that they are nothing but a gang of ‘irresponsible robbers’ who do not have a sense of humanity. Further, SKK has appealed the competent authority to bring up the case with the higher ups for the safety and security of the public.

BSJ organises math and science talent hunt

DIMAPUR: Department of Mathematics and Science, Baptist School Jalukie ‘B’ (BSJ) has organized an open math and science talent hunt for all schools in Jalukie valley on September 20 on the slogan ‘trust in hardwork’ at Barail Valley School, Jalukie. The competition saw the participation of nine high schools- both government and private with a 158 students both boys and girls under the patronage of their respective school authorities. In the Class X category, Soihiam of Government Higher Secondary School, Jalukie, bagged first prize, while Charingambo of Baptist School, Jalukie ‘B’ secured second prize, and Menaibam Chewang Members of Leo Club Dimapur serve water on the occasions of Vijaya Dasami. A total of Barail Valley School, Jalukie, 2000 litres of packaging water was served to all the public on the bank of Dhansiri river and Izalie Lungalang of Memorial School, Jalukie, bagged on October 4 under the chairmanship of Sanjay Jaiswal.

Miqlat ministry to hold seminar Dimapur: Embarking on the need to combat and stop the prevailing evil of human trafficking in Naga society, Miqlat Ministry, a ministry working under the umbrella of Nagaland Baptist Church Council Women’s Department (NBCCWD), has announced to organize a two-day seminar on human trafficking on October 7 and 8 from 9:30 a.m. onwards in its office, opposite Treasury Office, Purana Bazaar. The seminar is aimed at bringing together church and stakeholders to deliberate on the severity of the issue and find ways to work together. Informing that the battle against human trafficking is a joint venture which requires the participation and the contribution of each and every individual, the ministry Director Asha Zhanuo Sanchu has invited various departments/ organizations/ churches to the seminar. Rev. Dr. Lauran Betthel, Director of International Christian Alliance on Prostitution, would be the key resource person of the seminar. Dr. Lauran has been working on the issue for over 30 years in different countries.

Peren villages reaffirm ban on sale of land Dimapur: Three Peren villages namely Old Peren, New Peren and Kezanglwa have reaffirmed its stance of banning all ‘illegal’ activities particularly on sale of land by four Kuki villages namely Old Chalkot, New Chalkot and Saijang. The decision to this effect was taken during a joint emergency meeting of the three Peren village on October 3 at Old Peren Village Council Hall with the participation of the elders and intellectuals of the Peren community. It has also warned the prospective buyers not to purchase any piece of land from the above stated four villages without obtaining due permission from the original land owner, Old Peren village. It has referred to an MOU was signed between the Kuki Inpi and Zeliangrong Baudi (Hoho) on June 22, 1999, wherein it was stated in Declaration No.(A) (1). of Annexure “A” that “ We, the concern villagers of the following villages hereby declare that Old Peren Village is the original land owner of the following Kuki villages namely:- (1). Old Chalkot (2). New Chalkot (3). Saijang (4). Lilen” which was counter-

signed by the then Peren ADC, Wepretso Mero. The MOU number 5 further stated that Kukis will not sold out or dispose the land in barter system to any people without the knowledge of the concerned land owners (Zeliang Nagas) in whose land establishment of the village had taken place. Having learned that buyers are trying to legalize their purchase by registering their Sale Deed document through the district administration or Notary public, Peren villages have urged to all concerned not to entertain any such document. “Just because the purchase document is registered does not mean the rights of the original land owner will be abrogated or wiped out. No amount of such act will override our inherent customary rights,” a joint press release issued by council chairmen of Old Peren Haisobi Hega, Kezanglwa Hiareuzinbe Hegui and New Peren Namnabi Hegui said. Also having learned that certain self-vested individual/ organization are issuing NOC to the prospective buyers for the purchase of land within

the above four stated villages under peren village jurisdiction, the statement warned that any individual/organization involved in such notorious act would be dealt with accordingly as per the law of the land. It said whoever has bought land without obtaining due permission and consent from the Peren village would be at their own risk adding such sale/purchase act would be termed as null and void. The house also unanimously decided to use the same nomenclature of “Peren Land Settlement Board” and follow the same structure/strength of officials which was constituted on November 26, 2011. The Board highlighted its achievements and latest status of the land issues to the house since its inception till date. The house also unanimously re-nominated the same board members for another term of three years. The five-member Board are Amang Sephe as president, Dr. Ndangkie Ndang as secretary, chairman of Kezanglwa village Haireuzinbe Hegui, chairman of New Peren village Namnabi Hegui, and chairman of Old Peren village Haisobi Hega as members.
