All NPGs should come together for solution: Niki
Staff Reporter
DIMAPUR, APR 9 (NPN): Amidst clamour for securing solution to the Naga political issue spanning over several decades that has gained momentum following clear signals from Delhi that the government of India is serious about concluding an agreement, NSCN/GPRNK president ‘gen.’ (retd) Niki Sumi on Saturday categorically asserted that solution is possible if all Naga Political Groups (NPGs) could come together with a “common draft” for all Nagas. Niki said this at an exclusive interview to Nagaland Post at his residence here Saturday. Niki said early solution depended on whether it would be based on Framework Agreement or Agreed Position. He reiterated that the desired solution could be possible if all three entitiesNSCN (I-M), WC, NNPGs including his group- come together and come up with a common draft for solution that would be inclusive.

KOHIMA, APR 9 (NPN): Parliamentary Core Committee on Naga Political Issue (PCCoNPI) delegation led by chief minister Neiphiu Rio will be leaving for Delhi by Monday to meet Union Home minister Amit Shah and other Central leaders to apprise them of the Naga political issue. The decision was made during the committee meeting held here at the CM’s residential complex, PCCoNPI member secretary and planning and parliamentary affairs minister Neiba Kronu informed media persons after the meeting. He said the delegation led by Rio including UDA chairman TR Zeliang and deputy CM Y. Patton – who is already in Delhi, would be meeting Amit Shah and other leaders in national capital. Kronu said that the members also deliberated about the recent meetings held with the Working Committee of the NNPGs and the NSCN (I-M). He also said that the members, ahead of their meeting with the Central leaders, deliberated on issues to be discussed with them (Central leaders). Kronu said that the committee was likely to have more of sittings with the WC, NNPGs and the NSCN (I-M).

Niki said if all the entities were “really fighting for the betterment of Nagas” then they should come together with a common draft to usher the required solution for Nagas, be it small or big. He also asserted that unless Nagas’ voice out their desire for all entities to come together, the government of India was unlikely to take steps in this regard. He also opined that if some sections do not accept solution there was likely to be a return to uncertainty and conflict as happened when Nagaland was created as a state or the signing of the Shillong Accord. Niki also said Naga tribal leaders were ignoring certain aspects of unifying all sections. He said, instead of trying to unify Framework Agreement and Agreed Position, the leaders neglected the agreements half way, without taking into consideration the opinions, demands and favour of general Nagas. Asked if he felt the

government of India was sincere, Niki said he did not wish to comment on it as his group was focussed on finalising the “cease fire mechanism” signed with the government of India on September 8,2021. He said sincerity of government of India would only be known after the finalizing the cease fire mechanism. When asked if his group was also involved in negotiation with the government of India, Niki reiterated that this will come up only after completion of the cease fire mechanism. It may be recalled that the Government of India
and NSCN (K) led by Niki Sumi signed a ceasefire agreement on September 8, 2021 for a period of one year. Among other clauses, the agreement stated that during the course of ceasefire, all weapons and ammunition of armed cadres of NSCN (K) Niki, except those permitted for camp security and those in possession of the special ceasefire ID card will be kept under the joint supervision of chairman CFSB and NSCN(K) Nikki. The agreement further stated that during the ceasefire period, the group will keep its cadres confined to the designated camps. The modalities of monitoring and locating the camps would be the same as being presently followed and shall be strictly adhered to. Further speaking on the charter of demands by his group, Niki said he met Government of India’s representative for Naga talks AK Mishra last October, whereby the latter informed him to submit the group’s
Charter of Demand (CoD) at the earliest. He noted that NSCN (K)’s CoD was ready, asserting that the interest of peoples demands which were not included either in Framework Agreement or Agreed Position, would be added in his demands. When asked on his views on Naga nationalism in general, Niki said that during the initial stage, Naga movement began in Naga inhabited areas. Citing the example of Nagas in Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh, and even including Nagas in Myanmar, who he said, were treated as second class citizens, Niki said Naga Political issue is for the benefit of Nagas in all areas and this should not be ignored. He also said even if sovereignty could not be achieved for Nagas in Myanmar due to international border, Niki claimed that “We should not leave them behind. Naga nationalism should be for Nagas of all areas”. (Cont’d on p-8)

Hindi row: TN police on high alert over possible violence CHENNAI, APR 9 (IANS): Tamil Nadu police have been put on high alert following intelligence inputs of a possible violence in the state over Union Minister Amit Shah’s statement regarding Hindi to be made the communicative medium. Political leaders, including chief minister M.K. Stalin and Congress state president M.K. Alagiri, had come out against Shah’s statement. Security has been beefed up in several pockets of the state where the possibilities of eruption of violence are on the high. The preventive measure, according to a senior intelligence officer with the state police, comes after Dalit outfit Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) and Dravidar Kazhagam (DK) based on the ideals of Tamil social reformer EV Ramaswami Periyar, called for protests across the state against the minister’s statement. Founder leader of VCK
and Member of Parliament, Thol Thirumavalavan while speaking to IANS said: “The statement of Union Home Minister Amit Shah is part of the fascist designs of the BJP and the people of Tamil Nadu will reject and defeat the imposition of Hindi language in the state.” He said that the party would conduct protest marches across the state against this highly provocative statement from the Union Home minister. Thol said that the party executive committee has chalked out the protest programmes against the statement of the Union Home minister. Thol said: “Amit Shah and the BJP do not know the history of Tamil Nadu and the protests that had emanated in the state against imposing Hindi language. The imposition of a link language would create a wedge and divide the people of the country and BJP should refrain from doing this.” He, however, did not elaborate
on the protest march plans and the date of conducting the marches. Sources in the state intelligence told IANS that the state police are prepared for any spontaneous protests in certain pockets where the party is strong. Dravidar Kazhagam leader K. Veeramani also said that the organisation will conduct protest marches across Tamil Nadu against the arbitrary move of the Centre to impose Hindi on the people of Tamil Nadu. “The people of Tamil Nadu are already agitated over the Union Home minister’s statement on imposing Hindi on our people. There will be stiff resistance from Tamil Nadu and we will line up the people of Tamil Nadu against this unilateral move of the Union government and Amit Shah,” Veeramani said. He said that the protest marches will be conducted on Monday in various parts of Tamil Nadu against this move of the Union government.
Pakistan crisis: Imran Khan’s exit imminent Hindi imposition row: RPP asks govt to clarify ISLAMABAD, APR 9 (AGENCIES): Ending a 13hour impasse, the no-trust vote against Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan was underway after the National Assembly re-assembled post-midnight. According to reports in Pakistan media, Imran khan has left his official residence amid the no-trust vote. Pakistan National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser and Deputy Speaker Qasim Suri resigned on Saturday night minutes after the crucial session of the house resumed for after a break of over three hours. The crucial session of the house began at 10:30 am (11:00 IST) with Speaker
Imran Khan (File)
Qaiser, a senior member of Imran Khan’s party, in chair. Since then, the session was adjourned thrice for one reason or another. After announcing resignation, he asked Ayaz Sadiq of PML-N to chair the proceedings, who is now conducting the proceedings. Earlier, Pakistan Prime
Minister Imran Khan held an emergency meeting of his Cabinet on Saturday night as he vowed not to resign and “fight till the last ball”, even though his government is expected to lose a no-confidence motion in the National Assembly. Khan chaired the emergency Cabinet meeting where it was decided that he should not resign, sources said. The emergency Cabinet meeting has taken many by surprise as Khan has little chance of surviving the no confidence motion against him. Later, Khan met with a group of his favourite journalists, who are known for defending him in the talkshows, and rejected rumours
about making any change in the army leadership. The cricketer-turned-politician also announced that he will not resign and “fight till the last ball”. He said that he was not interfering in the process of implementation of the orders of the Supreme Court to hold a no-confidence vote. The joint Opposition needed 172 members in the 342-member house to oust Prime Minister Khan. They have garnered the support of more than the needed strength with the help of some allies of the ruling coalition and rebels from Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-eInsaf (PTI) party.
DIMAPUR, APR 9 (NPN): Describing the statement of the Union Home Minister Amit Shah that all the eight North East states have agreed to make Hindi compulsory up to class X, as “a very serious issue” Rising People’s party (RPP) Saturday has demanded that the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) clarify on the issue. RPP in a statement affirmed it will oppose such policies “tooth and nail” and demanded that the CM, deputy CM, state BJP president and advisor school education immediately clarify. RPP also asserted that it stood for unity in diversity and that any attempt to impose Hindi in the state/
country was “crass chauvinism and majoritarianism at play”. Further, RPP pointed out that the state educational policy was under the prerogative of the state governments and any diktats by the central government on the issue, was violative of the federal structure of the country and thus unacceptable. It also claimed that there was “a lingering suspicion” that state politicians “may have given their personal assurance/s” to the union home minister for making Hindi compulsory up to class X. RPP said any personal nod given by the state politicians may cannot be ruled out. RPP based this to a decision made two years
back by the state government on banning sale of dog meat on the ‘advisory note’ of a central leader seated in Delhi, having no respect for our Naga sentiments or culture. RPP said that the state politicians, eager to please Delhi, was “not only utterly disgusting but shameless too.” It said, unlike the South Indian politicians, who fiercely guard their regional and linguistic identity, “Nagaland being helmed by spineless leaders, and of late rank sycophants, it’s absolutely possible that UHM Amit Shah indeed extracted the nod from our politicians to go ahead with his controversial statement.”

DIMAPUR, APR 9 (NPN): Eastern Naga Students’ Federation (ENSF), which held a crucial meeting with its seven federating units, Eastern Nagaland People’s Organisation, Eastern Nagaland Women Organization, ENSF advisors, legal advisors and Eastern intellectuals, in Kohima on April 8, has unanimously resolved to proceed with “further course of action”. The meeting was held after the federation received a “stone cold response” from Personnel & Administrative Reforms (P&AR) department in response to
its 30-day ultimatum on the state government to fulfil its charter of demands, which included inclusion of exempted departments and posts under Nagaland Staff Selection Board (NSSB) Regulation, 2020. In a press release, ENSF president Chingmak Chang and general secretary Khomo P stated that the house, after threadbare discussion on the present content of NSSB Regulation, unanimously resolved to proceed with “further course of action until such exempted departments and posts are incorporated.”

NEW DELHI, APR 9 (PTI): Election Commission has told the Supreme Court that offering or distribution of any freebies either before or after an election is a policy decision of the party concerned and whether such policies are financially viable or have adverse effect, has to be decided by the voters of that state. In its affidavit, EC said, “The Election Commission of India cannot regulate state policies and decisions which may be taken by the winning party when they form the government. Such an action, without enabling
provisions in the law, would be an overreach of powers.” The poll panel said, “...
