KO HIMA, MAY 10 (NPN): Altogether 553 people from Nagaland including some from other states, stranded in violence-hit Manipur reached Kohima on Wednesday.
The stranded people were ferried in 15 NST buses and six light vehicles, escorted by Assam Rifles under the command of Col Umesh C Sati along with SDO Sadar Chonpenthung Ezung and DSP (traffic) T Henthai Phom.
The joint evacuation exercise carried out by Assam Rifles and Nagaland police code-named “Op -

and Karnataka Pragnyavantha Janata Party (KPJP) had one legislator each. With no party having a clear majority and as the Congress and JD(S) were trying to forge an alliance, BS Yediyurappa of BJP staked a claim and formed the government. However, it had to resign within three days ahead of the trust vote, unable to muster the required numbers.
Subsequently, the Congress-JD(S) alliance formed the government with Kumaraswamy as CM, but the wobbly dispensation collapsed in 14 months as 17 legislators resigned and came out of the ruling coalition and defected to the BJP, facilitating it to come back to power. In the by-polls held subsequently in 2019, the ruling party won 12 out of 15 seats. In the outgoing Assembly, BJP has 116 MLAs, followed by the Congress at 69, and JD(S) at 29.

(PTI): A voter turnout of nearly 72 per cent was recorded in the Karnataka Assembly elections on Wednesday where the ruling BJP, a combative Congress and the JD(S), which is hoping to be a kingmaker in the event of a hung assembly, are locked in a cliffhanger contest. Counting of votes for the 224-member Assembly will be taken up on May 13.
“Largely peaceful voting in all 224 Assembly constituencies in Karnataka, and no repoll indicated in any of the 58,545 polling stations,” the Election Commission(EC) said. Violence was reported from some areas including an incident where a poll officer was allegedly manhandled by some villagers, according to reports from districts. According to the latest figures available at 10 pm, the turnout stood
at 71.77 per cent. The EC said the final figures will be known by Thursday.
Karnataka recorded a 72.36 per cent voter turnout in the 2018 Assembly polls which had thrown up a hung assembly with the BJP emerging as the single largest party with 104 seats, falling slightly short of getting a majority. A total of 5.31 crore electors were eligible to cast their vote in 58,545 polling stations
across the state, where 2,615 candidates are in the fray. While the BJP, riding on the Modi juggernaut, is looking to break a 38-yearold poll jinx where the state has never voted the incumbent party to power, the Congress is hoping for a morale booster victory to give it a much-needed elbow room and momentum to position itself as the main opposition player in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
He said with the chunk of the stranded people having been already evacuated, there would not be any large scale exercise, except for some small evacuation exercise that might be required if the need arose.

(NPN): In another setback to street food cart vendors, Tenants and Business Welfare Association (TBWA), Naga Shopping Arcade (NSA), Dimapur has expressed strong opposition to the proposal of reallocating food cart vendors to NSA Super Market, Dimapur.
In a representation addressed to the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Dimapur, TBWA president Pukhaho Yeptho and TBWA action committee convenor Aito Awomi maintained that they were not against the young unemployed Naga entrepreneurs putting up food stalls in and around
Dimapur town. However, the association contended that NSA Super Market was “a busy centred zone” and had been well planned to carry out business by the registered members.
TBWA asserted that the Development Authority of Nagaland (DAN) has also made sure that all possible nuisance and disturbance were curbed within its area in the interest of the business community of NSA. According to TBWA, they were already facing challenges during Night Carnival, which causes huge loss to the established business community at NSA Super Market.
Further, they pointed out that during Night Carnival many complaints arose such as stealing goods from shops and breaking open their properties. TBWA lamented that during such event the place becomes a place of attraction and hotspot for the youngsters for drinking spree, indulging in immoral activities, etc, and also a den for goons for “fostering unwanted activities.” TBWA, therefore, expressed apprehension that shifting food carts to NSA Super Market would have strong negative impact on the business community.

DIMAPUR, MAY 10
(NPN): Rising People’s Party (RPP) has demanded the resignation of Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh and imposition of President’s Rule so that all those responsible for the atrocities could be booked and prosecuted.
In a press release, RPP stated that Singh’s credibility had been tarnished beyond repair and no amount of peace building would restore the sense of normalcy under his watch.
Pinning the blame for the ethnic clash between the majority Meitei community
and the Kuki tribals squarely on the chief minister, RPP cited an Outlook article of July 9, 2021 that quoted him saying “All lands belong to the state government.” With this exclusive statement, the party said Singh had showed that he was simply the chief minister of Imphal Valley. It also accused of later dehumanising the Kukis as poppy cultivators and drug warlords, besides branding the entire community as illegal immigrants. RPP asserted that the poppy argument given by Singh was fallacious given that poppy was also
cultivated in Naga-inhabited districts. RPP pointed out that the Nagas too were under the ATSUM banner, now spearheading the movement against inclusion of the Meiteis in the Scheduled Tribes list, and that the Nagamajority districts of Ukhrul, Senapati, Chandel and Tamenlong had participated in the ATSUM rally held on May 3. Whereas only the Kukis were targeted, it added. Stating that riots were chaotic, RPP said the burning question in everyone’s mind was how come the
DIMAPUR, MAY 10 (NPN): Eastern Naga Students’ Federation (ENSF) has appealed to the state government for implementation of ‘One Person One Reservation’ (OPOR) for seven tribes of Eastern Nagaland from the current 25% job reservation in the recruitment process.
In a memorandum to chief minister Neiphiu Rio, ENSF president Chingmak Chang and assistant general secretary Kaibo Konyak, suggested a ‘three-point measure’ to tackle the issue such as- to circumscribe aspirants from availing more than one post from 25% job reservation under Nagaland
Public Service Commission (NPSC) as well as Nagaland Staff Selection Board (NSSB) through official notifications from the departments concerned. ENSF further called for circumscribing the aspirants from availing more than one post from job reservation under District Level Recruitment Board (DLRB), and 25% job reservation in any other recruitment process followed by any departmental recruitment board (DRB)/corporation/board/ CSS vacancy, etc, where the vacancies are advertised be filled up through an official notification from the department concerned.
ENSF also acknowledged and appreciated the State government’s wisdom for implementing the Backward Tribes (BT) Job Reservation Policy for the Weaker Section of Nagaland in 1977 after having thoroughly analysed and fathomed the depth of economic, educational and employment disparity of the region from other Naga tribes, besides heeding to their genuine demand for overhauling the reservation policy that gave birth to partial modification to the department’s 2011 notification in 2015, adding more safety, fair and just modus operandi to the existing policy.
However, ENSF said they it had discovered yet another malady behind the stagnant employment rate of Eastern Nagas in the public sector despite availing the 25% BT quota that required correction at the earliest. According to ENSF even after more than 45 years of its implementation, attempts of successive governments to bridge the gap in the sphere of employment had never succeeded, as envisaged in the BT reservation policy. They mentioned that ENSF was taken aback that the employment rate of Eastern Nagas was only 13% even after 45 years of

closed that the artefacts and exhibits were mostly excavated or donated by locals and village councils, and not acquired, as compared with other galleries. IMPHAL, MAY 10: A security personnel was injured in an exchange of fire between security forces and suspected cadres of a Kuki based militant group in Manipur’s Imphal East district, bordering Kangpokpi district on Wednesday.
The injured jawan of the Assam Rifles was rushed to an Army hospital in Imphal. He reportedly sustained bullet injuries on his belly and is out of danger, a police source said.
The exchange of fire occurred at the foothill near Pukhao Shantipur under Sagolmang police station of Imphal East district which was severely hit by the recent violence with almost all the villagers displaced after their houses were torched during the violence. The source said that the exchange of fire erupted when the troops of Assam Rifles camping in the area rushed to the place after suspected militants opened fire toward the village.
A local source said that the suspected militants opened fire when some villagers went to visit their abandoned piggery farms to feed the pigs. Upon hearing
the firing, troops of Assam Rifles rushed to the area. Upon seeing the troopers approaching the area, the militants initiated fire.
With heavy reinforcements from Army, IRB and state police commando force, the security forces launched a massive search operation to flush out the militants, the source said.
It may be noted that after the villagers strongly questioned the role of the earlier Assam Rifles battalion station in the area, another battalion of the paramilitary force had recently replaced the earlier battalion. In his daily briefing on law and order situation on Wednesday at DIPR office premises today, the minister said that the wounded jawan was out of danger. Except the cross firing, no other incidents of violence were reported from across the state in the last 24 hours, he said.
“It was the only incident reported in the last 24 hours. In the firing incident, unfortunately a rifleman of the Assam Rifles got injured. He has been taken to hospital,” the IPR minister said.

Congress President DK Shivakumar and former Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy on Wednesday cast their votes in their respective constituencies as voting for Karnataka assembly is underway across the state, reports Munisdaily.
While Shivakumar ruled out a post-poll alliance with JDS in case the people give a hung verdict, JDS leader HD Kumaraswamy said his party will not be a kingmaker, but a king.
BIDADI (K’TAKA), MAY 10 (PTI): JD(S)
leader H D Kumaraswamy said that his party is expected to take a “hit” in up to 25 Assembly segments, where it had chances of winning, due to financial crunch, in the Karnataka elections held on Wednesday.
EVMs and VVPATs being deposited at a strong room after the end of voting for the Karnataka Assembly elections, in Hubballi, Wednesday, May 10, 2023. (PTI)
10 (PTI): Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Wednesday rejected the exit poll results, which gave Congress an edge over the ruling BJP in the assembly elections and asserted that his party will win with clear majority.
He also said the high voter turnout always favoured the BJP and not the Congress as some rival leaders have been claiming.
“Exit polls are exit polls. They can’t be 100 per cent correct. There will be
variation that can change the whole scenario,” Bommai told reporters in his home constituency Shiggaon, from where he is contesting the election.
“Our ground report says we will win with absolute majority. Let us wait till May 13 (when the counting will happening),” the CM said.
To a question about the Congress being buoyed by the voter turnout, and seeing it is a positive sign for the party, Bommai replied that it is the other
way round. “See, more number of voters turning out is always better for the BJP, not the Congress. It shows that lot of people who otherwise do not vote have voted especially in the urban areas.”
Those votes are coming to the BJP, he said.
Most exit polls on Wednesday predicted a close contest between the Congress and the BJP in the high-stakes Karnataka Assembly polls with many pollsters giving an edge to the grand old party.
After casting his vote, Shivakumar said the party will get 141 plus seats in the elections as people of the state will vote for Congress for a change. Voting in the 224 assembly seats of Karnataka is underway with as many as 2,615 candidates in the fray. On first-time voters, Shivakumar said that the young voters would root out the corrupt BJP rule and elect Congress government.
“The young voters are intelligent and talented and they will make a suitable decision. They will uproot this corrupt government, and elect a Congress government,” Shivakumar told reporters after cast -
DK Shivakumaring his vote. Shivakumar is fighting election from Kanakapura constituency, his backyard where he is pitted against BJP heavyweight and Karnataka minister R Ashoka.
The KPCC Chief said the young voters are aware of price rise, corruption in the government and certainly vote for a change.
“Late Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi had cut the age of voters from 21 years to 18 years. They will vote for a change, change for a democratic and global Karnataka. They are aware of price rise, corruption in the government, and I am sure they will vote for a change,” he said.
Before reaching the polling booth, Shivakumar sought the blessings of his family deity Kenkeramma and appealed to the people to come out of their homes to cast their votes.

Despite financial constraints, his party will be ahead of Congress and BJP in terms of winning the number of seats, the former Chief Minister claimed, as he asserted that his party will be ‘King’ and not just the ‘King maker’.
“What has pained me is that I have not been able to financially support several of my candidates. My expectation was that I might get public support in terms of funds, I have taken a hit to an extent. At several constituencies which had winnable candidates like in Chikkaballapura and Doddaballapura, I have failed in financially supporting the candidates at the final stages,” Kumaraswamy said.
Speaking to reporters
HD Kumaraswamy after casting his vote with his family members. here, he said because of shortage of funds, in about 20-25 constituencies where he has expectations of winning, there is a setback.
“Some constituencies have taken a good sum of money from party funds and in some winnable seats I have not been able to give enough funds and it has caused a hit. I have not been able to support them as per expectation, as the party did not get donations as expected,” he said.
Further requesting the party workers not to
develop a “wrong impression” on candidates, Kumaraswamy said, “I have let down candidates, it is my mistake. In about 50-60 seats where our candidates were giving a good fight, I have not been able to give funds as per expectations.” Despite all this and amid a sense that this election is “indispensable” for JD(S), he said, “I had expected more than 120 seats..... but we will still be ahead of Congress and BJP, despite financial constraints.”

MUMBAI, MAY 10 (PTI):
A person allegedly known to Bharatiya Janata Party leader and Member of Parliament (MP) Pragya Singh Thakur has become the 37th witness to turn hostile in the 2008 Malegaon blast case trial. Thakur, who represents the Bhopal Lok Sabha constituency, along with six other accused are facing the trial in the case.
As per his statement given to the Maharashtra police’s Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), which had probed the case earlier, the witness had attended functions of Thakur and was known to her. However, while recording his testimony before a special National Investigation Agency (NIA) judge on Wednesday, the witness said that he doesn’t know
Thakur. He also denied voluntarily giving any statement to the ATS.
The court then declared him hostile. Of the more than 300 witnesses examined so far, 37 have not supported the prosecution case. The trial in the case began in 2018 after the special NIA court framed charges against Lt Col Prasad Purohit, Thakur and five others for terror activities, criminal conspiracy and murder, among others. All of them are out on bail.
Six people were killed and more than 100 injured on September 29, 2008, when an explosive device strapped to a motorcycle went off near a mosque in Malegaon town in north Maharashtra, some 200 km from Mumbai.

With oil and gas reserves estimated at 600 million tonnes (forecast) and valued at an astronomical figure of Rs.25,20,000 crore (approx)Nagaland sits atop a gold mine that has the potential of transforming the economic scenario for ages to come. Oil reserves in Nagaland occur in the patkai ranges, Chanpang, Tssori (Wokha), Singphan (Mon), Geleki, Tzurankong (Mokokchung), Chumukedima (dimapur),and Jalukie (peren) among others. A vast estimated crude reserve of between 60 to 70 million metric tons are in Tzurangkong under Tuli bordering Wamaken and Amguri along the Geleki reserved forest, which is higher than that of Chanpang and Tssori. Since 1992, this newspaper had been commenting on the issue of oil exploration and extraction on several occasions in this column and as news item. In 1972 the government of Nagaland permitted Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) Ltd. to explore and extract around 18 kilotons of crude on experimental basis. ONGC began full-scale extraction from 1981 at oil well at Changpang and Old Tssori in Wokha district from where 1.02 million metric tons were extracted between 1981 and 1994. That means ONGC extracted at least ten times more than the quantity it was permitted to do on trial basis. The government of Nagaland stopped further ONGC operations in Nagaland in 1994 after protests from various quarters. despite border dispute, the Assam government gone ahead and deserved some tracts of the disputed Geleki reserved forest within the traditional area of the Wamaken village. The Assam government handed it over the deserved forest to ONGC from where huge quantities of crude oil have been extracted. With new technology available with ONGC to extract oil horizontally, millions of tons of crude can be pumped out from Assam side. A large quantity of oil and gas reserves in Nagaland are located in areas which has been disputed by Assam. These areas fall well within Naga traditional land but transferred to Assam through the 1925 notification.
When Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Nagaland chief minister Neiphiu Rio met at delhi on April 21, both agreed in principle to a joint oil operation along the disputed Area Belt(dAB) and equal sharing of oil revenue. Though most people in Nagaland would welcome any economic activity that brings in huge revenue, the issue of unresolved border issue with Assam casts some shadow. Several organisations have not opposed oil explorations but logically, they would like the border issue to be resolved. This would also mean identifying the area which will come under Nagaland.Another section holds the view that the Naga political issue should be resolved before going ahead with oil operations. It must also be noted that a pIL is still under consideration of the Gauhati High Court on oil exploration under Wokha district. This too needs to be resolved. Therefore, on the basis of these factors, which appear as preconditions for oil operations, the plans by both Himanta Sarma and Neiphiu Rio seem like putting the cart before the horse. There have been enough consultations with various NGOs and CSOs and the government in recent past regarding oil operations and time has come to realise that time is running out. The elected government needs to develop statecraft in order guide the people and act in a transparent and decisive manner
…add to your faith virtue… —2 Peter 1:5
Add means that we have to do something. We are in danger of forgetting that we cannot do what God does, and that God will not do what we can do. We cannot save nor sanctify ourselves— God does that. But God will not give us good habits or character, and He will not force us to walk correctly before Him. We have to do all that ourselves. We must “work out” our “own salvation” which God has worked in us (Philippians 2:12). Add means that we must get into the habit of doing things, and in the initial stages that is difficult. To take the initiative is to make a beginning— to instruct yourself in the way you must go.
Beware of the tendency to ask the way when you know it perfectly well. Take the initiative— stop hesitating— take the first step. Be determined to act immediately in faith on what God says to you when He speaks, and never reconsider or change your initial decisions. If you hesitate when God tells you to do something, you are being careless, spurning the grace in which you stand. Take the initiative yourself, make a decision of your will right now, and make it impossible to go back. Burn your bridges behind you, saying, “I will write that letter,” or “I will pay that debt”; and then do it! Make it irrevocable.
We have to get into the habit of carefully listening to God about everything, forming the habit of finding out what He says and heeding it. If, when a crisis comes, we instinctively turn to God, we will know that the habit has been formed in us. We have to take the initiative where we are, not where we have not yet been.
By Oswald ChambersWe live in a knowledge-based and technology-driven world. However, for any society or country to grow, progress, and develop, it’s not education, trillion dollars, and others not that important. More than these, the most vital aspect which is fundamentally required for any individual, group, and society is mental health. The reason being, mental health is the key for ensuring economic vitality, social cohesion, wellness, security, and overall well-being of humanity. In order to fulfil this mandate, mental health needs to be given utmost importance and thus be integrated as the most important component in all societal, educational and professional avenues. And so, we need impart awareness on ‘mental health’ in all domains.
Nowadays we are concentrating and prioritizing many others especially critical thinking, skill development, creativity, competence, communication and connectivity and many others, but have failed to take into account the core of all these vis-à-vis mental health. As we progress and keep climbing higher and higher, we tend to forget about the mental health or have not taken it more seriously. In the past somehow, there has been some kind of coping mechanisms and support systems available to balance our ‘mind’. There is a need and
necessity to derive clarity on these conceptions – ‘mind’ and ‘mental’. ‘Mind’ is a noun, while ‘mental’ is an adjective – a scientific term commonly used for mental disorder. Whereas the ‘mind’ is a set of faculties responsible for all mental phenomena. At the same time, while ‘brain’ is considered to be a ‘physical thing’, whereas ‘mind’ is related to ‘mental’. These two terms ‘mind’ and ‘mental’ presently are gaining momentum and assuming greater significance. Increasingly in the last few years, millennials across the world especially in India have been complaining about the state of their mental health.
We tend to think that if we have good physical fitness, it automatically takes care of our mind/mental.
In reality it is not true as we come across those who are physically fit keep complaining about their mental state. Nick Kyrgios and Naomi Osaka, top-ranking professional lawn-tennis starts had withdrawn from major tournaments complaining about their mental state. Another example is Deepika Padukone, the top Bollywood actor came out complaining about mental health issues in 2015. Currently she is a staunch advocate of ‘mental health’ campaigning in favor of for mental health in national and global fora.
Mental health is increasingly becoming not just the individual or fa -
Manipur, the Land of Jewel, has been in the grip of a political crisis in recent times. The state is known for its rich cultural heritage, scenic beauty, and ethnic diversity, but political instability has been a recurring problem in the state.
The crisis in the state has its roots in the complex ethnic and political landscape of the region. Manipur is home to various ethnic communities, including the Meiteis, Nagas, Kukis, and Pangals, who have historically had competing interests and demands. The state has also been a site of conflict between the Indian government and various armed groups, with some seeking greater autonomy or even independence from India.
The situation in Manipur, with current tribal and non-tribal violence, Scheduled Tribe issue, ILP, illegal immigration from Myanmar and Bangladesh is complex and requires a multifaceted approach to address.
The Meitei community has been demanding the implementation of the Inner Line Permit (ILP), which would regulate the entry of outsiders into the state and also to accord them a ST status, while tribals of the hill districts are all out against government’s move to turn their lands into so-called Reserve
milial, but societal. The numbers who have been affected by mental illness are growing significantly. Take young school going children. They are worrying about their academic performance stemming out from parental, familial, and peer pressures. Issues related to mental health are on the rise. And the consequential impacts are varying in terms of magnitude and severity. Therefore, it’s better to know all about it by not subscribing to “Ignorance is bliss”.
Experts such as Dr. Ruchi Sharma, Consultant Psychologist, HCMCT Manipal Hospital, Dwarka, in nuanced manner adds that “Students, especially adolescents, face a lot of stressors from multiple domains. Brain and bodily changes, personality changes, changes in social dynamics, interests and the additional demands, all have a collective effect on their overall well-being. Some of the most common issues that students come up with include ideological differences and communication challenges with parents, peer pressure, personality changes leading to increased aggression, self-esteem and confidence issues, sleep and appetite-related problems, anxiety and panic, difficulty in attention and concentration.” The above quote amplifies the causes leading to mental ill-health.
In tune to it, Moly Suryawanshi, HOD Well-
Forests/Protected Forests and fear losing identity of minorities and benefits if accorded a tribal status to advanced community of the state.
Scheduled Tribe Issue: Apparently, going by experts’ views, neither civil societies, pressure groups nor judiciary, but it is the government which makes policy recommendations or decisions on Scheduled Tribe. However, the decision of who should be given Scheduled Tribe status in Manipur should be based on certain criteria and parameters set by the government.
The Scheduled Tribes in Manipur are those communities that have been notified as such by the President of India under Article 342 of the Constitution of India. The criteria for determining a community’s eligibility for Scheduled Tribe status includes their distinctiveness, primitiveness, geographical isolation, backwardness, and overall socio-economic and educational development.
The decision of who should be given Scheduled Tribe status in Manipur should be based on a thorough analysis of these factors, along with inputs from relevant experts, academics, and community representatives. The process should be transparent and consultative to ensure that the
ness, Ridge Valley School observes: “A child spends nearly one-fourth of his/ her day in the school with educators and peers. Scholl is the second safe space that the child creates in his/her mind after home and teachers are the second guardians after their parents. Therefore, it is important that schools ensure a safe and healthy learning environment for each child. It can be tough to tell if troubling behavior in a child is just a part of growing up or a problem that should be discussed with mental health professional. But the most common issues that surface are related to separation anxiety and excessive internet usage concerns which result in poor attention span, and poor self-regulation stemming from which could be condition of attention deficit, hyperactivity, poor executive functions, and communication skills being impacted … From one-on-one intervention to educator-parent sensitizing sessions to cognitive behavior therapy, all come together to support the child in bringing back their socioemotional equilibrium.”.
In addition, onlineclasses during the pandemic followed by off-line classes seemed to have played a havoc in the mental health of the learners. A parent of a class 9 student Sushma Rajput shared: “The way a classroom functions has changed several times in the last two years. With
most deserving communities are identified and granted the benefits of Scheduled Tribe status.
Ultimately, the government should ensure that the criteria for granting Scheduled Tribe status are applied fairly and objectively to avoid any bias or discrimination.
The Manipur government and civil society groups should also promote inter-communities dialogue to foster understanding and promote peaceful coexistence between different communities. This can be done through community meetings, forums, and workshops that provide a safe space for different communities to come together and discuss their issues.
Reserve Forests:
It is not enough for state government to claim property rights over tribal lands in the pretext of protecting reserved areas under Indian Forest Act 1927 which led to eviction of tribals from their homes and land they called theirs.
Turning parts of tribal hill districts into reserve forests, it’s important to consider the potential impact on the local communities. Turning their lands into reserve forests without their consent or involvement can lead to displacement, loss of livelihoods, and conflicts with the government. Instead, the govern-
the pressure of academics, peers, pandemic also added to the anxiety amongst students.” Mind-mental is a dialectical dynamic that compliments each other. And so, they are closely webbed with each other. If anything goes wrong to one will have ramifying effect on the other. Only a tiny percent of our populace has come to reckon with the fact that mental health ought to be seen as an integral part of our overall well-being – be it a child or an adolescent or a grown-up. We come across periodically is the young scholars committing suicides in IITs. Those who resorted to suicide deaths belong to Dalit and Tribal background. Reasons ascribed for suicidal deaths ranges from depression, isolation, inferiority, taunting, and others. Likewise, women suffer both physically and mentally. Patriarchy employs sophisticated techniques to oppress and dominate women and thus being used in diverse methods to subjugate and wilt their mental resolve. It is a known factor that patriarchy as it moves along the times evolves new ways and means. One crucial weapon it employs attack women mentally/psychologically that automatically wrecks women psychologically resulting in gradually deterioration of physical.
As Dr. Samir Parikh, Director, Medical Health and Behavioral Sciences, ment can work with the local communities to find a sustainable and mutually beneficial solution, such as community-based forest management or eco-tourism.
One of the main reasons for conflicts is the lack of development in tribal areas, leading to a sense of neglect and deprivation. The tribals in Manipur face discrimination and exclusion in various spheres of life. The government should implement affirmative action policies to provide equal opportunities in education, employment, and other sectors.
Illegal Immigration and abnormal growth of population:
Illegal immigration is a complex and sensitive issue that requires a multifaceted approach to address. Manipur government could consider dealing with illegal immigration from Myanmar and Bangladesh and enhancing border security measures to prevent illegal crossings.
To prevent illegal immigration, it is essential to implement effective screening and verification processes for immigrants. The government should also increase public awareness about the negative impacts of illegal immigration. This could include public service announcements, media campaigns, and educational programs that highlight
Fortis Health care, adds: “Mental health needs to be prioritized and integrated into … not just in India, but worldwide. Awareness around Awareness around mental health and mental illness, early identification, screening, and also solution-based approaches are important … access to resources for intervention on specific concerns – to be learning disability, other illness like depression and anxiety, etc. Prioritizing awareness around mental health also needs to happen so that resilience—building positivity and the culture of well-being …” Be it class rooms or homes or society or the terrains – private or public, children, young millennials, and women are undergoing serious mental illness due to varied reasons should be addressed and resolved. Those belonging to said categories are the major pillars for the present and future. Their contributions for the present and future for our society and nation should never be minimized or taken for granted. How and in what ways will have to be left to the concerned people, organizations, state governments and the government at the Centre. Trinitarian components – body, soul, mind enjoins wholeness, but without or minus mind/mental, the comprehensive understanding of health becomes just a hole.
Dr. John Mohan Razuthe risks associated with illegal immigration and the importance of legal channels for migration.
Finally, the Manipur government should create opportunities for legal migration. This could include simplifying the visa process, creating employment opportunities, and developing partnerships with businesses that are interested in hiring skilled immigrants.
There is also a continuous flow of migration from rural areas of hill districts to already over-populated capital Imphal for employment and survival. Therefore, it is expected of government to invest in infrastructure, education, healthcare facilities and create job opportunities in tribal areas to promote economic development and reduce social disparities.
In conclusion, the Manipur crisis has wider implications for the region, as it has the potential to spark ethnic tensions and violence in other parts of the Northeast. The central government has been involved in trying to resolve the crisis, with talks being held with various stakeholders. However, a solution to the crisis remains elusive, and the situation in Manipur remains volatile. Therefore, government needs to do a lot of home works.
Mathew RongmeiIn Nagaland, people rush for employment, particularly in public sector for livelihood. It is not even for sustenance but for self-subsistence called survival. The craze for running after white-collar job is not just alarming but also embarrassing. The desperation for government job and the gravity of unemployment problem can be gauged from the fact that even graduates and post-graduates have been applying for D-Grade posts. Without skill, they are unemployable in skillbased jobs. Our education system hardly provides employability skills.
According to census data, Nagaland state has a population of around two millions/twenty lakh in which, the indigenous
Nagas will roughly account for fifteen lakh only on the higher side. Nagaland state with a geographical area a little over sixteen thousand square miles and population as low as that has about one lakh forty thousand (roughly 7% of total population) government employees. Out of this, skilled workers (preservice and in-service put together) including subject matter specialists may not account for not more than 20-30%. This simple deduction explains then, as to why our state is very low in productivity. Skill, whether for desk-top or field work is important for productivity. Skill helps in judicious use of resources and prevents wastage. In the public sectors and public sector undertakings,
the government sanctions large amounts of money for different development projects. The government loses large sums of money at various implementation stages due to lack or shortage of skilled workers. On the other side, the government is unable to mobilize sufficient funds for innovative projects for want of workers with creative ideas and imagination. Effective human resources management (HRM) will tackle these problems. For good governance, HRM is not just a requirement but a mandatory requirement. Sadly, in our state, HRM is still a new subject. As far as I know, no department has fully functional HRM cell. Let alone resources management, most departments
have problem managing even the numbers. Poor HRM, compounded by undue political interference in transfer posting is responsible for chaos in many departments. The departments are unable to deliver benefits to the common people. A glaring example is posting a medical super-specialist to an outpost where no facilities are available to make use of her/his super-specialty. The state government has over-crowded unskilled/ raw employees, mostly Cgrade, out of political appointments. They are like herds of animals left free to graze. The end result is gross indiscipline. Indiscipline is largely due to lack of work ethic. Work ethic is the mother of dedication and sacrifice. An employee
without work ethic will never be sincere and dedicated to her/his work. In a state like Nagaland where large numbers of government employees were unskilled workers at entry point, the need for effective human resources management mechanism has been a long felt need.
The state has no specifically-purposed central human resources/man-power management department or authority. Creating a fullfledged HRM department is one option. Legislation to constitute mandatory authority to oversee HRM is another option. Until now, the task of skilling/ capacity building has been left to the departments concerned. Separate HRM department/authority is expected to meet that chal-
lenge. Good governance without effective HRM is unimaginable and will remain a pipe dream. HRM is the catalyst for good governance. In fact, it is the main driving force of success in corporate sectors. The state is a welfare state. Nonetheless, the government can learn a great deal of lesson from corporate sectors on HRM. HRM needs priority attention of the government. The NDPP and BJP have promised good governance in their election manifestoes. Effective human resources management is key to good governance. Political authority will ensure time-bound fulfillment of the promises.

‘Unrest in Manipur: Understanding the current crisis and its implication’
JAIPUR, MAY 10 (PTI):
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday alleged that the Congress government in Rajasthan was taking a soft stand against terrorists due to its appeasement politics and took a dig over infighting in the party, saying the “chief minister does not have faith in his MLAs” and they also don’t trust him.
Addressing a rally in Rajasthan’s Abu Road, he alleged that an “ugly form of political battle” has been on for the last five years in the state and instead of working in people’s interest, Congress leaders were busy in “the game of looting and saving the chair”.
Referring to the 2008 Jaipur serial blasts that claimed 71 lives and left 185 others injured, the prime minister alleged that the Congress government in the state did not fight the case strongly, leading to the acquittal of all the accused.
“The Congress government of Rajasthan did what the Congress is notorious

The federation has appealed to NSCN (Khongo) group to fully cooperate and also called upon the state government and its law enforcing agencies to act swift against the culprit according to the law. ENSF expressed solidarity and conveyed condolences to the bereaved family members.
DUCCF: Dimapur
Urban Council Chairman’s Forum (DUCCF) expressed shock and grief at the “cold blooded killing of Supou P and said that such acts of lawlessness had no place in a civilized society and must be rooted out once and for all.

KMHK has, therefore, appealed to the law enforcing agencies to award befitting capital punishment to the perpetrator as per the law of the land and no bail be entertained at any cost.
KMHK also extended condolences to the bereaved family members and prayed that the Almighty God bestow divine comfort and solace to bear the loss.

for. The Congress has always taken a soft stand on terrorists for appeasement. It does not leave any chance to stand with terrorist ideology,” he alleged.
Modi claimed that during the coronavirus pandemic, the Congress “wanted more people to die so that they could get a chance to grab my neck”. However, the prime minister said that he would not kowtow to the threats and conspiracies of these people.
“If Modi bows down, then he bows down before 140 crore countrymen,” he said. Prime Minister Modi
said that Rajasthan is also facing the consequences of Congress’s politics of selfishness.
“You are witnessing an ugly form of political battle in Rajasthan for the last five years. Instead of the interest of the public, the game of looting and saving the chair is going on here,” he said.
“What kind of government is this where the chief minister does not have faith in his own MLAs and they also do not have faith in their chief minister. Everyone is competing to humiliate others,” he said at the rally in Sirohi district, around
400 km from the state capital Jaipur. Modi’s remarks came as a festering power tussle between Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and his former deputy Sachin Pilot again spilled into the open, with both accusing each other of colluding with BJP leaders.
The two Congress leaders have been at loggerheads over the CM’s post since the party formed the government in December 2018. With the assembly elections approaching in the state, Pilot, who lost his post of deputy CM and PCC chief after revolting against Gehlot in 2020, has now intensified his attacks.
On Sunday, Gehlot said he survived the 2020 revolt as BJP leaders Vasundhara Raje and Kailash Meghwal refused to support a conspiracy to topple an elected government through money power. He even said that the rebel MLAs should return any money they have taken from the BJP.
Pilot on Tuesday rejected the charge that the
dissidents - whom he had led -- took any money from the BJP. He also said that Gehlot’s remarks had made it clear why his government was not probing the allegations of corruption against the previous Raje government.
At the rally on Wednesday, Prime Minister Modi said that the chief minister’s chair was in trouble for five years and there was no one to care about the development of Rajasthan. He also alleged that there was a complete breakdown of law and order under the Congress rule and crimes against women had increased. He said that the Congress government in Rajasthan is afraid to take action against criminals because of vote bank politics and for the appeasement of some people.
He alleged that because of this thinking, the Congress government presented a weak prosecution in the Jaipur bomb blast case because of which the accused were acquitted.
he s aid the Rajasthan incharge of the Congress will make his decision public after discussions within the party.
“I felt it was like a joke because it was laughable for me,” Khera said when asked to clarify on his “joke” remark on Sachin Pilot’s comment on Gehlot.
NEW DELHI, MAY 10
(PTI): Amid infighting in Rajasthan Congress, party leader Pawan Khera on Wednesday dismissed as a “joke” and as “laughable” former deputy chief minister Sachin Pilot’s remark that a recent speech of Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot indicated his real leader is BJP’s Vasundhara Raje and not Sonia Gandhi. Gehlot had claimed that he survived a revolt in 2020 by some Congress MLAs because BJP leaders Vasundhara Raje and Kailash Meghwal refused to support a conspiracy to topple an elected government through money power.
On Tuesday, Pilot mounted a no-holds-barred attack on Gehlot saying his speech indicated his real leader is Raje and not his Sonia Gandhi. Asked to comment on Pilot’s remark, Congress’s head of media and publicity department Pawan Khera said, “He would have said something jokingly, one can’t sort that out. He will get a response in the same manner.”
On whether there would be any action against Pilot, he said, “There is an in-charge for every state in every party and he will take a decision accordingly.”

also urged all right-thinking citizens to vehemently condemn the heinous crime. The union conveyed condolences to the bereaved family.
NLSF: Nagaland Law Students’ Federation (NLSF) through its press and media cell expressed shock at the killing and said that the person involved in the act “must not allow to go unpunished.”
While vehemently condemning the “barbaric and heinous murder”, the federation reminded that the Constitution of India guarantees all citizens under Article 21 “The Protection of Life and personal liberty”, NLSF said “This means that nobody, including the Government, can try to end the life of a human.”
NLSF also conveyed condolences to the bereaved family and prayed that God strengthen the family during this hard time.
DNSU: Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU) condemned the “barbaric act” and appealed to the law enforcing agencies not to allow “this case to go unattended and provide appropriate justice as per the law of the land.”
DNSU said it also condemned “those Naga National Workers who misuse their power and weapons without any valid reason in residential environments, killing innocent students/ citizens”. The union has, therefore, appealed to the “national workers” to be cautious of their actions.
DNSU also expressed displeasure that Dimapur Civil Hospital denied immediate post-mortem to the victim’s family and told them that it could be done only the next morning. “This shows the failure of the hospital’s administration which must not be ignored,” DNSU said.
Meanwhile, the union while mourning the untimely death of Supou extended solidarity and condolences to her family.
DENSU: Vehemently condemning the “coldblooded murder”, the Di-
mapur Eastern Nagaland Students’ Union (DENSU) said that the act committed by the perpetrator was “not only cowardly but also inhuman in nature.”
DENSU has, therefore, appealed to the law enforcement authority to put every possible effort in the process of investigation. It also urged the judiciary to award deterrent sentence to the accused. The union expressed condolences to the bereaved family members and prayed that the departed soul find solace.
KSU: Konyak Students’ Union (KSU) expressed shock over the incident and vehemently condemned the “brutal and mindless act” of the accused. KSU vice president Yuwang Konyak and general secretary A Pangnan said the union stands in solidarity with the bereaved family and appealed to the concerned legal authority to accord befitting punishment under the relevant law of the land and ensure that no elements obstruct the process until the justice is served.
YAA: Yimkhiung
Akherll Arihako (YAA) through its president Keyoungkhum and general secretary Toshikhiung Thongleh strongly condemned the “cold-blooded murder” and urged the law enforcing agency to ensure that the culprit be prosecuted strictly as per the law of the land.
YAA also asked the NSCN (Khango) group to ensure that its member committing homicide was not shielded under any circumstance from getting befitting punishment. Meanwhile, YAA has expressed sympathy with bereaved family members and near and dear ones and prayed that her soul rest in eternal peace.
USSC: United Sangtam Students’ Conference (USSC) condemned “cowardly and horrific act” and called upon the government and law enforcement agencies to bring the perpetrators to book “under non-bailable offence” and award vigor-
ous punishment as per the law of the land.
In a statement, USSC vice president Sethrongba Y Sangtam and general secretary Lumpili Sangtam said that such an inhuman act in a civilized society cannot be compromised under any circumstances and urged the authorities concerned not to grant bail to the accused.
USSC also expressed solidarity and conveyed condolences to the bereaved family members.
CWS: Chang Wedoshi Setshang (Chang Students’ Conference) through its assistant general secretary C Khangyang Chang and spea ker HY Choba condemned the “heinous and barbaric incident” and urged the Law enforcing agencies to award befitting punishment to the perpetrator and deliver justice at the earliest CWS stated that at a time all the section of the Naga society were relentlessly working towards peace and harmony, “such cowardly and spineless mentality” was a threat to the
society.
Meanwhile, the conference has conveyed solidarity and condolences to the family and relatives of the bereaved at this time of grief.

NEW DELHI, MAY 10 (PTI):
The government is yet to accept a report of the energy transition committee that recommended banning the use of diesel-powered four-wheelers in cities with over 10 lakh population and switch to electric and gas-fuelled vehicles by 2027, the oil ministry said.
The report of the committee headed by former oil secretary Tarun Kapoor had also suggested phasing out motorcycles, scooters, and three-wheelers with internal combustion engines by 2035.
“Report of the Energy Transition Advisory Committee (ETAC) has been received by the MoPNG.
The Govt. of India is yet to accept ETAC report,” the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoPNG) said in a tweet. There should be no diesel city buses addition in urban areas in about 10 years, the panel which submitted its report to the government in February this year, had said.
“India is committed to NetZero by 2070. ETAC has made wide ranging and forward looking recommendations for shift to LowCarbonEnergy. ETAC has
a futuristic outlook,” the ministry said. “The suggestions of ETAC relate to multiple ministries & a range of stakeholders including states. Consultation with various stakeholders on the report are yet to be initiated. No decision has yet been taken on ETAC recommendations.” The panel had stated that EVs may be promoted as the optimal solution in preparing for phasing out internal combustion engine two/three-wheel vehicles by 2035. “In the intermediate period, policy support for ethanolblended fuel with an increasing blend ratio needs to be given.”
It called for four-wheelers, including passenger cars and taxis, to partially shift to electric and partially to ethanol-blended petrol with almost 50 per cent share in each category. “Diesel-driven 4-wheelers may be eliminated as soon as possible. Therefore, a ban on diesel-powered four-wheelers in all million-plus cities and all towns with high pollution has to be enforced in five years, i.e. by 2027,” the report said. For transitioning to EVs, CNG as a transition fuel (up to 10-15 years) has been emphasised.
“Vehicles with flex-fuel capabilities and hybrids may be promoted in the short and medium terms. This can be done through the application of fiscal tools like taxation,” it said.
To boost electric vehicle use in the country, the report said the government should consider a “targeted extension” of incentives given under the Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Electric and Hybrid Vehicles scheme (FAME) to beyond March 31. The report favoured new registrations of only electric-powered city delivery vehicles from 2024 and suggested higher use of railways and gas-powered trucks for the movement of cargo. These steps will help India achieve the goal of cutting its emissions to net zero by 2070. Net-zero, or becoming carbon neutral, means not adding to the amount of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere.
India is the world’s fourth biggest emitter of carbon dioxide after China, the US and EU. But its huge population means its emissions per capita are much lower than other major world economies.
(From p-1)
Kukis were so quickly identified by the mobs for surgical strikes in denselypopulated Imphal valley, while terming the riots as an anti-Kuki pogrom.
For one, the RPP alleged that the chief minister did nothing after the riots started on May 3, at least for the next 24 hours, when mobs in Imphal valley started targeting Kuki homes and churches. Rather, citing reports, the party accused Manipur Police commandoes of aiding the mobs by doing nothing when the dwellings of the Kukis were being burnt down.
Not surprisingly, the party pointed out that DGP P Doungel of Kuki ethnicity was relinquished of all authority on May 4 and the overall operational command of the police was handed over to ADGP Ashutosh Sinha, also reporting to security adviser Kuldiep Singh. It claimed that no reasons were given for scapegoating Doungel.
Further, the RPP also condemned the ‘Christian Kuki Vs Hindu Meitei’ narrative of the riots and the propaganda allegedly fed by Hindi-speaking narrators that the Christians were slaughtering Hindus in Manipur, clarifying that nothing could be further from the truth.
(From p-1) its implementation, as reflected in the RTI reply filed in NPSC in 2019.
Hence, after marathon quest for the reason behind it, ENSF claimed to have discovered that the reason for the stagnancy in employment rate of eastern Nagaland was a single person benefitting/ enjoying more than one BT quota. ENSF claimed that once the aspirant cracked the exam, he or she began to higher posts. And as and when the desired post was secured, he or she would resign from the previous
post.
The federation said that once a person resigned from the post that he or she had secured through BT quota, the post so resigned was no more treated as BT quota and was advertised as fresh vacancy in the ensuing recruitment. Consequently, that particular tribe loses of one BT quota. ENSF mentioned that this practice had been going on since day one of the implementation of 25% job reservation. In this manner, they said many posts had been lost. It
claimed that there was a loss of 44 posts between 2009-2019 as per the RTI reply of 2019.
ENSF wondered how many posts had gone lost within a span of 45 years if it filed RTI with effect from 1977 to till date? Thus, if government of the day does not correct the existing woe, the intent/objective behind implementing 25% job reservation will be a total failure,” the memorandum cautioned. At this rate, the ENSF argued it would be necessary to continue with the policy for an indefinite
period, even as the employment rate would presumably keep on reducing and the aspirations of the Eastern Nagas to keep/remain on a par with rest of Naga tribes in terms of economic viability and employment justice would remain a farreaching futility.
Against this backdrop, ENSF said the federation and its seven federating units had unanimously adopted a resolution on March 4, 2022 for ‘One Person One Reservation’ during its 21st Federal Assembly at ITC DAN, Noklak and impress upon
the State government for its quick implementation for Eastern Nagas. Under the above facts and circumstances, ENSF requested the chief minister to peruse the matter keeping in mind the objective of reservation policy and consider the ENSF’s plea. It said correcting this anomaly would not only lighten the burden of the State government over the job reservation issue, but also help the Eastern Nagas realise their long-held aspiration vis-à-vis to be on a par with other Naga tribes across the State.
(From p-1) TBWA stated that night stalls encouraged the “indiscipline youths engaging in similar activities” that were done during Night Carnival such as drinking alcohol, playing loud music, unorganized gatherings,

According to TBWA, the association was already in the process of submitting representation requesting to discontinue giving permission for Night Carnival at Super Market starting from 2023. It maintained that shifting food stall to Super
Market would be “no less than giving license” to carry out Night Carnival throughout the year. Therefore, TBWA has affirmed that the proposal if implemented as suggested by DUCCF without consulting the concerned stakeholders would
be strongly opposed. The association has urged the responsible authority to reconsider the proposal forwarded by the DUCCF taking into account the similar problem faced during Night Carnival.

MAY 10 (PTI): Pakistan’s former prime minister Imran Khan was on Wednesday sent on an eight-day remand to the anti-corruption watchdog while a sessions court indicted him in a separate graft case, amid violent protests that left at least seven people dead and prompted deployment of the army in three provinces.
The 70-year-old chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) was taken into custody by the paramilitary Rangers on Tuesday on the orders of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) by barging into a room of the Islamabad High Court.
On Wednesday, Khan was produced in the AntiAccountability Court No. 1 presided by judge Muhammad Bashir, the same judge who had convicted former premier Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam in a corruption case of having properties in London.
Judge Bashir reserved the judgment at the conclu-
sion of arguments.
Later on announcing the verdict, the court handed over Khan for eight day to the NAB.
At the start of the hearing, the NAB lawyers requested the court to grant a 14-day remand of Khan to probe the allegations against him in the Al-Qadir Trust case in which he is accused of looting Rs 50 billion of the national treasury. But Khan’s lawyer opposed the plea and asked the judge to release him as the charges
were fabricated.
In his statement, Khan told the accountability court that he was fearful for his life, the Express Tribune newspaper reported.
“I have not been to the washroom in 24 hours,” he said.
“I am afraid I will meet the same fate as ‘Maqsood Chaprasi’,” Khan said, referring to a witness in Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s money laundering case who died due to a cardiac arrest last year. Khan’s party had
termed the witness’ death ‘mysterious’.
Separately, the District and Sessions Court indicted Khan in the Toshakhana case. Judge Humayun Dilawar conducted the hearing in the makeshift court set up in the New Police Guest House along with the ATC No. 1. Khan was present in the court and pleaded not guilty when the charges were read. He also refused to sign the court documents, according to Geo News channel. The case was filed last year by the Election Commission of Pakistan and Khan had skipped several hearings in the past months. The charges are about the allegation that Khan concealed the proceeds of sale from the state gifts. The New Police Guest House located in the high security premises of Police Lines Headquarters at Sector H-11/1 area of Islamabad was declared as a court for the purpose of hearing two cases against the former cricketer-turned-politician.
Citing sources, Geo News said that a medical report submitted to the NAB showed that Khan has been declared fit. PTI Senior Vice President Shah Mahmood Qureshi and Secretary General Asad Umar went to the Islamabad High Court to file a plea against the police decision to stop them from seeing Khan.
However, before any legal process was launched, Umar was arrested by the anti-terrorism squad of Islamabad police as two new cases have been launched against him for the violence by the PTI protests after Khan’s arrest. Later, media reports said Qureshi and former Punjab governor Omar Sarfraz Cheema were also arrested.
Meanwhile, the Pakistan Army warned Khan’s supporters against taking the law into their hands and said it showed “patience and restraint and exercised extreme tolerance,” not even caring about its reputation, in the larger interest of the country.
WASHINGTON, MAY 10 (PTI): The United States has a very deeply complicated and consequential relationship with China, Secretary of State Antony Blinken said Tuesday, adding that engagement between the two countries is the key. He also said that it is in the interest of the US and China to establish and strengthen their lines of communication -- something that the rest of the world “expects us to do”.
“What we have communicated to our colleagues in the government in Beijing is the importance from our perspective in engagement, precisely because we have a deeply complicated and also consequential relationship that is important to people in the United States and China,” Blinken told reporters at a news conference along with his British counterpart Foreign Secretary James Cleverly.

“And precisely because we have profound differences as well as, I believe, some responsibility not only to manage those differences so that the competition that we have doesn’t veer into conflict, but also the potential where it’s in our mutual interest and where it answers needs that the world has as well to find areas of cooperation, that engagement’s the way that we try to pursue both of those responsibilities,” Blinken said.

He became an instant sensation after his track ‘Calm Down’ took over social media like a wildfire. Now, Nigerian singer Rema is looking forward to collaborating with Oscar-winning composer A.R. Rahman and popular rapper Badshah.
Born as Divine Ikubor, Rema is best known internationally for his 2022 hit single ‘Calm Down’, the remix of which, with Selena Gomez, peaked at No.6 on the Billboard Hot 100 and led the US Afrobeats Songs for a recordsetting 35 weeks.
Since he is touring India, would he like to collaborate with someone in India and also would you like to try your hands in Bollywood?
Rema told IANS: “I look forward to collaborating with Badshah and A.R. Rahman. These are my two favourites right
now but yes, I would love to explore some new opportunities here.”

Filmmaker Anurag
Kashyap has cryptically talked about the ban on the recently released film ‘The Kerala Story’ in a thread about the “propaganda” film.
Cryptically reacting to the ban of ‘The Kerala Story’ in West Bengal, Kashyap tweeted on Wednesday: “You agree with the film or not, be it propaganda, counter propaganda, offensive or not, to ban it is just wrong.”
He also shared a quote by French philosopher Voltaire, which read: “I do not agree with what you have to say, but I’ll defend to the
death your right to say it.”
‘The Kerala Story’ is currently in controversy after the film’s trailer claimed that 32,000 girls from Kerala went missing and joined the terrorist group, ISIS. Later, the film’s makers had changed it to three women.
Anurag tweeted it is “just wrong” to ban a film, even if it is “propaganda” and asked people to watch ‘Afwaah’, which “talks against misuse of social media and how inherent prejudice is weaponised to create hatred and unrest”.
He tweeted, “You
want to fight propaganda. Then go in numbers and see the film that talks against misuse of social media and how inherent prejudice is weaponised to create hatred and unrest. It’s running in cinemas and is called ‘Afwaah’. Go make your voice stronger. Go make a point. That’s the right way to fight.”
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had recently directed the state chief secretary to ensure the film is removed from all screens in the state. (IANS)

The consistent love; guidelines rather than rules; immense hardships and sacrifices bestowed upon me. The burdens you carried, your fearlessness, your strength, perseverance, hardworking wove me together to stand on my feet. You still are a driving force to me. Dhoni punished Khaleel Ahmed and then marshalled his bowling resources to perfection as Chennai Super Kings comprehensively beat Delhi Capitals by 27 runs to take a giant stride towards IPL play-off, here on Wednesday.
The talismanic skipper’s couple of monstrous sixes in his 9-ball-20 did help CSK get to 167 for 8, which was at least 20 runs above-par on a tacky Chepauk track.
The total was just what Dhoni needed to marshall his bowlers as Delhi Capitals were never in hunt after their batting mainstays
David Warner (0), Phil Salt (17) and Mitch Marsh (5) were out by the start of the fourth over.
In the end, DC managed only 140 for 8 and their struggles were real as not even 10 fours were hit in the entire innings. The DC batters managed only seven boundaries and four overboundaries.
The win took CSK to 15 points and one win from two remaining games will certainly seal their place in
the last four. As far as DC’s campaign is concerned, it is almost curtains with 8 points from 11 games with seven defeats.
Before one points fingers at head coach Ricky Ponting and Director of Cricket Sourav Ganguly, there would some of the talent scouts, who should be held accountable for presenting the team with options who are incapable of being x-factors even at the
domestic level. The Indian batters like Manish Pandey, Ripal Patel, Lalit Yadav or Aman Khan aren’t good enough to ace easy chases on their own leave alone getting better of tough targets like this one on the day.
The two veterans Ravindra Jadeja (1/19 in 4 overs) and Moeen Ali (0/16 in 4 overs) tightened the noose around the DC batters in the middle overs when Pandey and Rillee Rossouw
and then made two relatively comfortable saves from Haaland as City controlled midfield and denied Madrid any relevant possession.
Rodri’s overconfidence then gifted Madrid their first chance of the match as he allowed Vinicius to rob possession, and only a great clearance from Ruben Dias denied Karim Benzema a certain goal. That gave Madrid hope, and from nowhere, Vinicius put them ahead from 25 yards after taking a pass from Eduardo Camavinga with his side’s first shot of the game.
added 59 at less than runa-ball. Pandey, especially after running Marsh out could have done better but in his 16 seasons of IPL, he hasn’t even won 10 games for all the franchises that he played.
Matheesha Pathirana
(3/37 in 4 overs) nailed his yorker perfectly to send the former India player packing.
Earlier Capitals bowlers came to the fore, keeping the Super Kings batters on

the leash on a sluggish pitch before Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja (21 off 16 balls) put pressure on DC bowlers at the back-end. None of the CSK batters could go on and get a substantial score with Shivam Dube (25) being the highest score. There were 20s by Ruturaj Gaikwad (24), Ambati Rayudu (23) and Ajinkya Rahane (21).
Electing to bat after skipper Dhoni won the toss, the home team was pegged back by some fine bowling by the Capitals bowlers, especially left-arm spinner Axar Patel (2/27). Mitchell Marsh (3/18) was the best bowler while Kuldeep Yadav (1/28) and Lalit Yadav (1/34) were the other wicket-takers. The big-hitting Dube smacked the first six of the innings, hoisting Axar Patel into the stands in the 11th over. He hit two more before a pull of Mitchell Marsh landed in the hands of skipper David Warner.
Brief Scores: Chennai Super Kings 167 for 8 in 20
Overs (Shivam Dube 25; Mitchell Marsh 3/18, Axar Patel 2/27). Delhi Capitals 140 for 8 in 20 overs (Rilee Rossouw 35; Matheesha Pathirana 3/37).
Deepak Bhoria (51kg), Hussamuddin (57kg) and Nishant Dev (71kg) created history on Wednesday as they assured at least a bronze medal each by reaching the semi-finals in their respective categories at the ongoing IBA Men’s World Boxing Championships, here.
The Indian men’s boxers have secured three medals for the first time in the history of the World Boxing Championships. Earlier, the best performance of the Indian men’s boxers was recorded in 2019 when Manish Kaushik and Amit Panghal clinched medals for the country.
In the first quarter-final bout of the day, Deepak defeated Diushebaev Nurzhigit of Kyrgyzstan by a 5-0 unanimous decision to storm into the semis. The Indian pugilist dominated the match from the beginning and used his quick movement and ring intelligence to win the first round. Deepak was at his best in the second round too as he dodged his opponent’s attack proficiently and stayed ahead in the
match. The third round saw Deepak playing smartly and negating the heavy attacks of Nurzhigit. The strategy worked for the Indian boxer as he comfortably won the bout. He will now face B. Bennama of France in the semi-finals on Friday.
Meanwhile, Hussamuddin beat J. Diaz Ibanez of Bulgaria by a 4-3 split decision to confirm another medal for India at the ongoing tournament.
It was a neck-and-neck battle between both the boxers from the get-go as Hussamuddin took some time to gauge Ibanez’s movements. The Southpaw used his speed and movement to defend and land some heavy blows on his opponent while
counter-punching. The second round was rather comfortable for the Indian pugilist as he quickly judged his rival’s attacks and hit heavy punches. The third round saw both the boxers throw caution to the wind and go on the offensive but Hussamuddin used his combinations well to secure the win. Hussamuddin will go up against Saidel Horta of Cuba in the semi-finals on Friday.
Nishant Dev beat Jorge Cuellar Of Cuba by a 5-0 unanimous decision to secure the third medal of the day for India. Nishant Dev will fight Asian champion Aslanbek Shymbergenov of Kazakhstan in the semifinals on Friday.
NEW DELHI, MAY 10
(PTI): The protesting wrestlers on Wednesday demanded lie-detector Narco Test on Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh under Supreme Court supervision after he claimed innocence to the allegations of sexual harassment.

(IANS): Real Madrid and Manchester City drew the first leg of their Champions League semifinal 1-1 in the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium after a thrilling 90-minute game. Vinicius Jr put Real Madrid ahead in the first half, but Kevin de Bruyne leveled for the Premier League leaders midway through the second half, reports Xinhua. Manchester City made six changes from the side that beat Leeds United at
the weekend, while Real Madrid’s only changes from the team that won the final of the Copa del Rey were to bring in Luka Modric for Aurelian Tchouameni and Antonio Rudiger for the suspended Eder Militao.
Man City kicked off by dominating the ball, pressing high and winning possession high up the field, and Thibaut Courtois was called into action to save from De Bruyne in the eighth minute.
Five minutes later, he got down to push Rodri’s low effort out for a corner
NEW DELHI, MAY 10 (IANS): The former All India Football Federation (AIFF) vice-president, treasurer and executive committee member AR Khaleel passed away on Wednesday after a brief illness. He was 91.
Khaleel is survived by his wife and four daughters.
AIFF president Kalyan Chaubey condoled the demise of Khaleel, who was also the former president of the Karnataka State Football Association (KSFA).
“It is sad to know that AR Khaleel is no more. His death has left an eternal void in Indian Football administration. Our thoughts are with his family at this difficult hour,” said Chaubey.
A prominent face in the Indian football administration for nearly six decades, Khaleel was also active at the continental level, and on occasions was a member of Asian Football Confederation Standing Committees.
“Khaleel ji was one of the foremost football administrators of his time, and played a big role in popularising the game in In-
dia, especially in Karnataka. His demise has left Indian Football poorer,” said AIFF Secretary General Dr Shaji Prabhakaran.
A president of the KSFA for 28 years till 2018, Khaleel had worked for the game in various capacities. He was a footballer, who ran Jawahar Union FC, one of Bengaluru’s traditional clubs, was an administrator par excellence, and served Karnataka football as an office bearer for many years.
He also donned managerial roles for the Indian national teams in various age groups. In Karnataka football, Khaleel will always be remembered for the exemplary work he did in acquiring land and building the Bangalore Football Stadium, owned by the KSFA.
Things got a bit feisty in the closing minutes of the half after Jack Grealish reacted to several bad challenges from Dani Carvajal, which went unpunished, while Toni Kroos was perhaps lucky to only see yellow for a late and high challenge on Ilkay Gundogan.
Real Madrid were on top at the start of the second half, with Rodrygo and Camavinga playing exceptionally well, but De Bruyne leveled for the visitors when Madrid were in their best moment.
Some of the country’s top wrestlers, including Olympic medallists Bajrang Punia and Sakshi Malik and Asian Games gold winner Vinesh Phogat, have been protesting at Jantar Mantar here for more than a fortnight, demanding arrest of Singh for allegedly sexually harassing seven women wrestlers, including a minor.
“Those people speaking in favour of the WFI chief and saying that we are lying, I would say that Brij Bhushan should undergo a Narco Test under Supreme Court... and also the seven women wrestlers (who have alleged sexual harassment),” said 2016 Rio Olympics bronze medallist Sakshi at a press conference here. “Whosoever is found guilty, hang them.” she added.
The wrestlers did not, however, give clarity on how
they are going to push for a Narco Test as, according to law, the consent of the accused is mandatory. Only after that can the investigating agencies proceed.
A day after Delhi police registered two FIRs against him on April 28, Singh had claimed innocence and said he was ready “to face any kind of investigation.”
Sakshi also made an appeal to the women of the country to come forward and support the wrestlers like they did in 2012 when the Nirbhaya case happened.
“I would request the womenfolk in the country to support us just like they did in the Nirbhaya case. Express solidarity with us because we are also fighting for the cause of women. If
we win this fight, we would have sent a strong message, but if we lose we would go back 50 years,” she said. The wrestlers also decided to wear black armbands on Thursday as a mark of protest over the alleged inaction of the authorities.
“I appeal to all the individuals and organisations supporting us to come and join us in a black armband protest on Thursday. Tomorrow, we will express our opposition (virodh) by wearing black armbands,” said Vinesh, the 2018 Asian Games gold medallist, on a day which saw a big surge in the number of protesters.
Tokyo Olympics bronze medallist Bajrang Punia said contrary to public perception, the agitating
wrestlers were not against national competitions taking place. He said if the competitions take place under the supervision of the Indian Olympic Association-appointed ad hoc panel, he would welcome them.
“But if the WFI chief is involved in any way, we will oppose it,” said Punia.
“I request the IOA ad hoc committee to organise all the tournaments, because we also do not want to halt wrestling activity. We are not calling wrestlers here (protest site) because their training and preparations will suffer. We laud the constitution of the ad hoc committee,” said Punia.
“We have major international events such as the Asian Games and the Olympic qualifiers coming up. The (ad hoc) committee should organise the tournaments, (but) not someone who has serious allegations against him,” added Punia.
“Time and again people say we are not allowing tournaments to take place. Let me clarify that we have not stopped any competition. But, my question is how can someone who has so many allegations against him organise events.”
A Delhi court on Wednesday sought a status report from the Delhi Police over the sexual harassment case against Singh. The judge issued notice to Delhi Police on a plea moved by the protesting wrestlers, seeking monitoring of the investigation and recording of the statement of the alleged victims before the court. The court directed the police to file the report by May 12 when it will further hear the matter.
Members of the Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU) and several khap panchayats arrived on Wednesday as they continued to express solidarity with the wrestlers. The barricades and the huge police presence could not deter the supporters from entering the protest site in large numbers. Unlike Tuesday, when there was a dip in the number of supporters coming to the site, leaders of several organisations from Delhi, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan joined the protesting wrestlers bringing with them food and other commodities.
