The BJP hit back at the Congress, accusing its leaders of putting pressure on the ED, supporting corruption and protecting the alleged assets worth Rs 2,000 crore of the Gandhi family. Noting that nobody is above the law “not even Rahul Gandhi”, Union Minister Smriti Irani claimed that never before such a blatant attempt was made by a political family to hold a probe agency to ransom to protect its “ill-gotten” assets. agencies to target opposition

DIMAPUR, JUN 13 (NPN): Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) has accused BJP of using government agencies like Enforcement Directorate (ED), Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), National Investigation Agency (NIA), police, etc, against political opponents in the country. Addressing the media her at Congress Bhavan Monday, NPCC president K Therie said the government agencies were being misused and had become political tools. After BJP came to power, he said the party had been pursuing vendetta politics against its opponents, as almost all politicians in the country raising their voice against injustice, standing for the constitution and speaking for the people had been brought under the

radar of ED, CBI, NIA, etc. “In the past eight years of Narendra Modi’s rule, the government agencies have become political tools that had never happened during Congress rule,” he added. On the summoning of Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi in the National Herald case, he maintained that there was no exchange of money, apart from exchange of transfer of shares to shareholders. Terming the summon as a political vendetta, he claimed that Rahul was the only leader who had been openly asking Modi questions, which the latter had failed to respond. He
warned that if the citizens continued to live under such leaders, the country would not be able to progress. Therie further wondered what had happened to the CBI investigation with regard to construction of Nagaland High Court complex and the case regarding Enforcement Directorate where five individuals had been summoned in connection with money laundering. He said a memorandum was submitted to the President of India through governor demanding that the Centre be restrained from using government agencies against BJP’s political opponents. (Cont’d on p-8)
NEW DELHI, JUN 13 (PTI/AGENCEIS): Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was on Monday questioned for over eight hours by the Enforcement Directorate in a money laundering probe linked to the National Herald newspaper, as the opposition party held protests across the country, accusing the Centre of targeting its leaders by misusing agencies. Gandhi, 51, went from the party headquarters in Akbar Road to the ED office in central Delhi a few kilometres away in a convoy
of seven cars around 11.10 am after walking for some distance accompanied by party supporters, a battery of leaders including sister Priyanka Gandhi and escorted by armed CRPF personnel. Gandhi, who appeared before a central probe agency for the first time for questioning, was still in the ED office here till 9 p.m. The former Congress president, a Z+ category protectee of the CRPF after the Union government withdrew the Gandhi family’s SPG cover in 2019, is expected to

In a press note USM president I. Tiajungba Longkumer and general secretary Senmoaba Imsong said the senso had faith in the law enforcement officials to do everything possible to arrest the culprit and deliver justice, but despite the incident which occurred weeks ago, the police were yet to provide and lead in the investigation. While questioning the ability and diligence of the law enforcement agencies, USM demanded that the perpetrator be arrested at the earliest. Failing which, USM said it would take its own course of action, and “any untoward incident will be dealt with by the concerned department”. Meanwhile, USM has expressed gratitude to all for their solidarity and support rendered during the untimely and tragic demise of Mapuienla. It may be mentioned that PRO and DCP (Crime) Bharat Laxman during a press briefing said that the police were yet to identify the car or person/s involved in the incident due to lack of any eyewitness though several CCTV footages had been collected.

flop on dist boundary demarcation

DIMAPUR, JUN 13 (NPN): Expressing dismay over the state cabinet’s flipflop on demarcation of boundary following the carving out of Niuland and Chümoukedma districts from Dimapur district, Azheto Zhimomi, MLA, on Monday said that the state Cabinet changing its decision on every sitting was not wise. In an interview with Nagaland Post at his residence Monday, Zhimomi stated that after widespread op-
position against the order to shift Dimapur DC office to Chumoukedima, all the five MLAs under Dimapur-Tovihoto Ayemi, Moatoshi Longkumer, Azheto Zhimomi, Jacob Zhimomi and Zhaleo Rio-- were called by chief minister for a meeting to discuss the issue. At the meeting, he claimed that all five MLAs suggested the chief minister to constitute Urban DC at Chümoukedima and Rural DC at Dimapur since there were provisions for such arrangements. After several months, Zhimomi said that
the state home department on November 12, 2021 directed DC Dimapur to hold consultative meeting with the five MLAs and submit report for creation for Chümoukedima and Niuland districts. NEW DELHI, JUN 13 (AGENCIES): The opposition’s search for a Presidential candidate has picked up pace with a series of meetings and phone calls in the run-up to the election next month. With these discussions pivoting around former Union Minister Sharad Pawar, there is speculation that he could be the opposition’s pick for India’s top post, NDTV report stated. Pawar’s Maharashtra allies Congress and Shiv Sena are reportedly on board with the idea. Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee, who has called for an opposition meeting at the Constitution Club in Delhi on Wednesday to discuss a joint strategy for the presidential election. Elections will be held on July 18 for the next President of India and counting, if needed, will be held three days later. BJP has authorised its party chief JP Nadda and Union Minister Rajnath Singh to hold discussions with parties across the spectrum and steer them towards a consensus. If there is no consensus, the BJP will prepare for an election, sources say.
DIMAPUR, JUN 13 (NPN): Nagaland In-service Doctors’ Association (NIDA) has demanded clarification from the state government over decisions on superannuation of government doctors at the April 21 cabinet meeting in Kohima. N I DA t h r o u g h i t s president Dr E Phyantsuthung and general secretary Dr Mereninla Senlem expressed appreciation on the government for according urgency and legitimacy to demands of NIDA but at the same time dissented over the usage of the word “reemployment” while raising the superannuation age of doctors from 60 to 62 years.
In a representation to chief minister, NIDA however opposed the cabinet decision and stated that it could not accept it. NIDA said when the cabinet decided to raise the superannuation age of all government medical doctors from 60 to 62 years, why was the contradictory word “re-employment” used? Next, NIDA said when “re-employment” was proposed for all medical doctors why did it not also include those in administrative positions including those in the directorate? NIDA also said when raise in superannuation age has been implemented in most of the north eastern

seeing the video. Although the wildlife crime staff identified the individuals in the video, he said they required more investigation in order to come to a conclusion and bring the accused to book. “We have arrested the
three main accused (the one who shot the bird, one who was torturing and other at whose residence the incident happened),” Tokaho informed. He also said that the gun used in shooting the hornbill has been seized. Expressing disappoint-
ment over the ignorance of some people on wildlife protection despite carrying out plenty of awareness, he said that such incidents reflected poorly on the state. As per Section 51 of Wildlife Act, a person shall be punishable with imprisonment for a term that shall not be less than three years but which may extend to seven years and also with fine. Meanwhile, Bhandari SDPO L Sukumo Kikon informed Nagaland Post that the accused were handed over to the police by the Forest Department officials along with the recovered 12 bore SBBL gun, 11 pieces of the bird’s feathers and
the severed head of the bird. Green SONS condemn: Condemning the killing of the great Indian hornbill, the Green Succession of Nagaland State (Green SONS) has appealed to the responsible authority to take exemplary action against the accused. Green-SONS through its media cell appreciated the wildlife and the police departments for speedy action taken against the perpetrators. The organisation stated such the act of perpetrators was “indeed too cruel and insane” and demanded that they be booked under the appropriate section of the Wildlife protection Act.
states, why was it not being implemented in Nagaland ? According to NIDA, any medical officer retiring as additional director rank and above will have hierarchal issues in the district hospital where controlling officer is in the rank of joint director, if the cabinet decision was implemented. Further, NIDA mentioned that two upcoming medical colleges at Kohima and Mon would require 124 doctors while so far there are 40 to 50 in-service doctors eligible and willing to take up difference posts at these two upcoming medical colleges. It said with the exit of such a large number of medical
officers from the state health services to the medical colleges, it would create severe shortage of manpower in the public health facilities of the state health department. NIDA recalled that during the two years of the Covid pandemic, the medical fraternity and frontline workers had served humanity untiringly and given their best to the society. They reiterated and assured continued service to humanity. It therefore, appealed to chief minister to review the cabinet decision at the earliest and consider the original demand of NIDA for increasing the superannuation age of doctors to 62 years for all.

Thizama successfully implementing springshed project
Correspondent
KOHIMA, JUN 13 (NPN): Thizama village is successfully implementation of the springshed-based watershed development (SWD) project in the state sponsored by NABARD and implemented by department of land resources. Speaking during the reception event at Thizama village Monday, NABARD chairman Dr. GR Chintala congratulated the Thizama village for successfully implementing the project. Advocating the need to bring out new projects
Dr. G.R Chintala, Dr. Menuosietuo Tseikha and others at Thizama, Kohima Monday. (NP)
for NABARD to support, he encouraged the village to take advantage of NABARD programmes and
come up with new project. He stated that NABARD was willing to grant projects if successfully implemented.
The district project officer (DPO) land resources Dr. Menuosietuo Tseikha said NABARD springshedbased watershed development project in Thizama Village was initiated in the year 2019 with the aim to revive and rejuvenate the springs of the area, which were in critical stage. Under the project, Tseikha said more emphasis was given on recharge of ground water, rejuvenation of the springs and soil and moisture conservation. With the introduction of the project, he said that 12 critical springs in the
vicinity of the village had been identified and different soil and moisture conservation and engineering works have been carried out to rejuvenate the springs. One of the first activities taken up by the department was the rejuvenation of the community well (Peso Dzükhou), which is shared by the villagers and the personnel of 4th NAP. For this purpose, he said engineering works like staggered contour trenches and dug out ponds and afforestation have been taken up in the recharge area of the spring, Tseikha said.
He said the village had no piped water connection and the water that was accumulated in the water harvesting pond was pumped up to the village, which is about 1.62km away. He said that the water harvesting pond not only
supplies drinking water to the village, but also the excess run-off was utilised for agricultural purposes. TVC vice chairman Dr. Medongulie Zatsu chaired the function while TVC chairman Viletuo Pienyu delivered welcome address.
Speaking to media persons, Chintala said state was not utilizing much of the rural infrastructure unlike other North East states. He suggested that Nagaland should put some mechanism in place and get funds as much as possible
since it was quite concessional rate. Chintala said he had a meeting with the chief minister and all these agendas were brought up for discussion. He said that creation of livelihood in a much bigger way and banking were also discussed.

IMPHAL/GUWAHATI/ AGARTALA/ITANAGAR, JUN 13: Congress workers in Manipur, Assam, Tripura and Arunachal Pradesh on Monday staged a protest against the quizzing of Rahul Gandhi by Enforcement Directorate in a money laundering case. Three Congress leaders were detained by police in Imphal for protesting in support of party leader Rahul Gandhi, who has been summoned by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). AGARTALA, JUN 13 (PTI): Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha said he will be the face of the BJP in the next year’s assembly elections in the Northeastern state. Addressing a rally on Sunday night, Saha said the entire nation is watching the Town Bardowali assembly bypoll where he is the candidate. “I have not been made the chief minister for just three months, six months or seven months... I will be the face of the BJP in next year’s crucial assembly elections. I know what is what,” he said. “We are not like migratory birds that land only during elections. I am close to every resident of Town Bardowali constituency as I was born and brought up here. Being a player, doctor
Manik Saha and professor, I have access to all spectrums of people of the constituency,” he added. Saha said he witnessed the people’s socio-economic conditions during the doorto-door campaign. “It is indeed a nice experience for me.” Claiming that the entire nation was closely following the bypoll, Saha said Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami had won the by-election, securing 93 per cent votes.
“I have to reach somewhere near that magic figure. I am literally in a race. If I win, it will be a victory of the faith Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP president JP Nadda reposed on me,” he said. Saha also shared his first interaction with the prime minister after being appointed the chief minister. “When I called on Modi-ji for the first time as the chief minister, he asked me if I am having good sleep. I said, you made me the party president which I did not ask for... You made me a Rajya Sabha MP, and now I am the chief minister! I am not feeling uncomfortable,” he told the rally. Saha, a Rajya Sabha MP, replaced Biplab Kumar Deb as the chief minister of the state last month.

Assam family’s struggle to prove they are Indians GUWAHATI, JUN 13 (AGENCIES): TThree members of a family in Assam have been served a notice for illegally entering India. The notice, served on June 8, stated they entered India illegally between January 1, 1966 and March 23, 1971 and that they need to depose before the tribunal to prove their citizenship. The notice has confused Nata Sundari (66), her husband, Kashi Nath Mandal (68) - a daily wage labourer - and their son Govindo (40). This is the third time that
Moderate quake in Meghalaya SHILLONG, JUN 13 (IANS): A moderate quake, measuring 4 on the Richter scale, was recorded in Meghalaya’s East Garo Hills and adjoining areas on Monday but no loss of life and damage to property has been reported so far. The National Centre for Seismology (NCS) reported that the tremors were also felt in adjoining areas of Assam and the tremor occurred at a depth of 10 km from the surface.
the family from Balijan Kacahri village of Assam’s Sonitpur district will have to prove that they are Indians. In 2016, they were judged legal citizens of the country by the Sonitpur tribunal after they furnished the legal documents. “My father, Kashi Nath, was again handed a notice in 2018. This was the second time he got such a notice. We contested it in the tribunal and the ruling was in favour of my father. My father then stated to the magistrate that he is sick and tired of proving
to be an Indian in his own motherland and doesn’t want to go through the legal harassment again,” said Nakul Mandal, the second son of Kashi Nath Mandal. He said 38 members of their joint family have their names in the National Register of Citizenship 1951, which is a requirement to be a citizen of the country and, most importantly, to stay in Assam. Why are we being harassed again when we were judged Indians citizens by the court twice, lamented the family.
On May 6, the Gauhati High Court ruled that a person who has proved their citizenship once cannot be asked about it again. There are hundreds of such cases across Assam where people are receiving notices from foreigners’ tribunal courts after already proving their identity supported by adequate documents.

According to The Indian Express, the Congress workers demanded the withdrawal of the case against Gandhi. Congress leader Sudip Roy Barman said: “The BJP government at the Centre is misusing all institutions, including Election Commission, ED, Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), to stay in power and to malign opposition leaders. The protest comes amidst poll preparations of all political parties for forthcoming byelections in four assembly seats in Tripura.
GUWAHATI, JUN 13 (AGENCIES): With the situation in Dima Hasao is gradually returning to normalcy, the restoration work of the railways continues in full swing. Due to heavy torrential rains and massive landslides, around 85 Kms of railway track in the Lumding – Badarpur hill section of Lumding division were badly affected, NE Now reported. Breaches had occurred at more than 61 locations in this section, resulting in disruption of the rail communication to the hilly states of Tripura, Mizoram, Manipur and south Assam. Restoration works at 46 locations have already been completed and work at other 15 critical locations is going on in full vigour, NF Railway said in a statement. During mid-May, 2022, Dima Hasao district witnessed more than the normal rainfall. In locations like Maibong, Mahur, New Haflong, Jatinga Lampur, New
Harangajao and Damcherra the exaggerated downpour resulted in landslips, flash floods and washouts causing the disruption. N.F. Railway is targeting speedy restoration work in the entire hill section with an aim to restart services by July, 10 2022. The weather in this region is still fierce, but the intensity of rainfall has lessened. Even in such weather, thousands of workers and hundreds of machines are working day and night in this area under the supervision of Railway officials, it said. The entire stretch from Badarpur to Jatinga Lumpur has already been restored. N.F. Railway authorities with co-ordination and co-operation of different organisations have geared up for early restoration to bring the hill section’s railway connectivity back on track. Officials of the NF Railway are working relentlessly to restore communication as early as possible for the affected population of the cut-off region.

The officials of the ED were being used by the BJP government to denigrate leaders of opposition parties for political mileage. “If we remain silent in such acts of misusing the Constitutional bodies, the democracy of the country will be at stake,” he said. Speaking to reporters, APCC president Nabam Tuki said the rally was in support of party leader Rahul Gandhi who was summoned by the ED in a money laundering case probe linked to National Herald newspaper. Tuki termed the allegation against Rahul Gandhi as ‘fake and baseless’, while accusing the BJP of misusing the powers of the federal agency to destroy an individual’s political career and the image of the grand old party. “Congress is the one who created the country’s political history. Therefore there is no reason to claim that the party is silent on any issues related to the state and only voices against national issues,” Tuki said, adding, the people have faith in the law of the country and Gandhi would come clean.

NEW DELHI, JUN 13 (PTI): Congress leaders and workers took to the streets on Monday in Delhi and various state capitals as Rahul Gandhi appeared before the ED here for questioning in the National Herald case, with the opposition party accusing the Modi government of “trampling on democracy’’. Hundreds were detained for violating prohibitory orders in the national capital, where several top leaders had converged, and other cities as they tried to march to ED offices despite heavy barricading by the police and protested against the agency’s summons to the former Congress chief. The opposition party alleged that some of its leaders were manhandled by the police and hit out at the government for “not allowing”’ peaceful protests. UP man arrested for role in recruitment of terrorists PUNE, JUN 13 (PTI): The Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad has arrested a 20-yearold man from Uttar Pradesh in connection with a case of recruitment of operatives for a terrorist organisation, an ATS official said on Monday. The accused, Inamul Haq, was already arrested by the Uttar Pradesh ATS in March this year for his alleged links with the Pakistan-based terror outfit Lashkar-eTaiba (LeT) and radicalising youth. He was in jail in UP, the official said. “We have taken his custody in an ongoing case in Maharashtra, in which one 28-year-old Junaid Mohammed Ata Mohammed was arrested on May 24 this year for his alleged role in the recruitment of operatives for the banned terror outfit LeT,” he said.
to target opposition leaders and said the country is watching everything. The par ty claimed it was starting Mahatma Gandhi’s ‘Satyagraha’, peaceful resistance, again with the march against the Modi government and vowed not to bow down. The BJP hit back at the opposition party, alleging that the show of strength by the Congress is aimed at putting pressure on the ED and its leaders were celebrating corruption. Targeting the Centre over the recent incidents of violence, Gehlot alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was “too arrogant” and did not care about the people of the country and had successfully been able to divide people into religious lines. “Instead of appealing to the country for maintaining peace and shunning any kind of violence, the PM and Home Minister Amit Shah are using ED, CBI and
other agencies against the opposition,” he charged. Baghel said the opposition cannot be targeted like this in a democracy. “A l l l e a d e r s f r o m Kerala to Kashmir are being targeted...Democracy is being throttled and we oppose it strongly,” he alleged. Gehlot said the case is in court and their objection is to bring in the ED “wrongly” in the matter. “Till when will you trouble people. The matter is serious and I would appeal to the youth that democracy is in danger... The entire country is watching and in the coming times, we will not budge or bow down and the BJP will have to suffer due to this,” he said. The Rajasthan chief minister said he had also made a request to directors of ED, CBI and CBDT Chairman to convey what the entire country thought about the three premier agencies, but they did not

meet him after initially responding positively. “Gandhian Satyagraha will start again today. A new revolution will begin against a coward Modi government,” Surjewala said. Asked whether the Congress would stage a similar show of strength on June 23 when Sonia Gandhi has been asked to appear before ED, Gehlot said, “The Congress is competent to deal with the situation”. He also claimed that 13 parties have appealed to the prime minister to address
the nation and denounce any kind of violence, but the ruling dispensation does not pay heed to the opposition. “What is the problem if the prime minister says something...That is why there are riots and violence in the country and bulldozers are being used,” he said. Gandhi, 51, earlier arrived at the probe agency in central Delhi a little after 11 AM after he started from the Congress office on Akbar Road accompanied by a large convoy of party leaders including Priyanka G a n d h i Va d r a , A s h o k Gehlot and Baghel. Due to the barricading, Gandhi took a detour to reach the probe agency’s office. This is the first time that Gandhi has appeared before a central probe agency for questioning in a case. Gandhi was questioned by the probe agency for over three hours and got a lunch break, during which he met his mother Sonia Gandhi at the Gangaram Hospital where she has been admitted. He was again questioned for several hours after lunch. Congress MPs and workers had earlier assembled at the AICC headquarters where Surjewala announced they would march peacefully towards the ED office and if they were stopped, they would court arrest. Raising slogans in suppor t of Gandhi, Congress workers started a march towards the ED office with Gandhi but were stopped by the police which had put up barricades all around the AICC office.

NEW DELHI, JUN 13 (PTI): The Information and Broadcasting Ministry on Monday advised the print, electronic and digital media to refrain from advertising online betting platforms, saying betting and gambling are illegal in “most parts” of the country and pose significant financial and socio-economic risk for consumers. The ministry said the advisory has been issued in larger public interest and comes in the light of instances of a number of advertisements of online betting websites/platforms appearing in print, electronic, social and online media. It has advised the print and electronic media to refrain from publishing advertisements of online betting platforms. It has also advised the online and social media, including online advertisement intermediaries and publishers, to not display such advertisements in India or target such advertisements towards the Indian audience. “Betting and gambling, illegal in most parts of the country, pose significant financial and socio-economic risk for the consumers, especially youth and children, the advisory states. These advertisements on online betting have the
effect of promoting “this largely prohibited activity”, according to a ministry statement. In its advisory, the ministry noted that advertisements of online betting are “misleading” and they do not “appear to be” in strict conformity with the Consumer Protection Act 2019, Advertising Code under the Cable Television Networks Regulation Act, 1995, and advertisement norms under the Norms of Journalistic Conduct laid down by the Press Council of India under the Press Council Act, 1978. The ministry said it had issued an advisory to private satellite TV channels on December 4, 2020 asking them to adhere to the Advertising Standards Council of India (ASCI) guidelines on advertisements of online gaming, “which contained specific Do’s and Dont’s for static/ print and audio-visual advertisements of online gaming.” The ASCI guidelines, which came into effect from December 15, 2020, stipulated that no gaming advertisement would depict any person, under the age of 18 years or the person who appears to be under the age of 18, engaged in playing a game of “online gaming for real money winnings”, or suggest that such persons can play these games.

OPINION/EDITORIAL
Nagaland Post VOL. XXXII NO. 188 DIMAPUR, TUESDAY, JUNE 14, 2022
J
Bulldozer justice
ogi Adityanath’s ‘bulldozer justice’ in UP has drawn the attention of people across the national political spectrum as well as international media as it symbolises how a democratic and liberal India is being systematically bulldozed by an authoritarian regime. Following the nationwide protests against anti-prophet comments by two BJP leaders on Saturday, the UP government unleashed its ire on Javed Mohammad who has been identified, accused and deemed guilty of allegedly ‘masterminding’ the protest against the insulting remarks on Islam’s most revered prophet Mohammad by Nupur Sharma of the BJP and tweet by another BJP leader Naveen Jindal. On Sunday, the Javed’s house was bulldozed by Prayagraj Development Authority(PDA). The protests took place on Friday and notice pasted Saturday on the wall of Javed’s house. By Sunday the PDA had bulldozed the house to rubble. Hours after demolition, UP police claimed that Javed Muhammad was the mastermind of the protests that rocked Allahabad on Friday, against inflammatory remarks made on Prophet Muhammad. It was also reported that Javed, his wife and daughter were “illegally picked up” without warrant by cops during a midnight raid. Several TV channels said the notice was backdated to make it appear that it was not linked with Friday’s protests. Another point is that the notice for demolition was not received by Javed and even if he did, as per the law, he gives an opportunity to an accused to reply. Sadly, the law did not intervene but merely commented on it. Former Allahabad High Court Chief Justice Govind Mathur remarked “This is totally illegal,” while commenting on the latest targeted demolition drives in Uttar Pradesh including the razing of house of prominent Muslim activists Javed Mohamamd and Afreen Fatima in Allahabad. Mathur said even if it was assumed for a moment, that the construction was illegal, then crores of homes across India and UP were also illegal. He also pointed out that it was not at all legally tenable to demolish a house on a Sunday when the alleged accused were in police custody. It may be noted that Mathur was the judge who, in March 2020, took suo motu notice of the Lucknow administration’s much-criticized decision to plaster “name and shame” posters of those accused in the antti-CAA protests. He held that the government’s move was held unlawful and violated the right to privacy of the accused. Unfortunately, when overwhelming number of TV channels who have been at the forefront of attacking those who attack the government, voices condemning the incident had to be done through twitter. The use of bulldozers is used as tool for justice to target and demolish homes of anti-government protestors. Bulldozer justice through controversial ordinances are used selectively to teach anti-government activists a lesson and to serve as deterrent. In UP, chief minister Jogi Adityanath, who has been called ‘Bulldozer Baba’ by Akhilesh Yadav, has made it clear that bulldozer justice will used against land and building mafias. The moot point is whether mafias belong only to a certain religion? It is tragic that when the government assumes the role of accuser, judge and executioner there is no scope and no hope for justice. Even a day after mass arrests, a video clip has surfaced that was filmed inside a UP police station showing some police personnel raining lathi blows against a row of arrested persons. This is a clear indication that authoritarianism is supplanting the rule of constitutional law in India.
DailyDevotion Getting There (3) …come, follow Me. —Luke 18:22 Where our individual desire dies and sanctified surrender lives. One of the greatest hindrances in coming to Jesus is the excuse of our own individual temperament. We make our temperament and our natural desires barriers to coming to Jesus. Yet the first thing we realize when we do come to Jesus is that He pays no attention whatsoever to our natural desires. We have the idea that we can dedicate our gifts to God. However, you cannot dedicate what is not yours. There is actually only one thing you can dedicate to God, and that is your right to yourself (see Romans 12:1). If you will give God your right to yourself, He will make a holy experiment out of you— and His experiments always succeed. The one true mark of a saint of God is the inner creativity that flows from being totally surrendered to Jesus Christ. In the life of a saint there is this amazing Well, which is a continual Source of original life. The Spirit of God is a Well of water springing up perpetually fresh. A saint realizes that it is God who engineers his circumstances; consequently there are no complaints, only unrestrained surrender to Jesus. Never try to make your experience a principle for others, but allow God to be as creative and original with others as He is with you. If you abandon everything to Jesus, and come when He says, “Come,” then He will continue to say, “Come,” through you. You will go out into the world reproducing the echo of Christ’s “Come.” That is the result in every soul who has abandoned all and come to Jesus. Have I come to Him? Will I come now?

Post-mortem
Rebuilding Hope & Transforming Donating blood as an act of solidarity O Lives: Eight years of Seva
T
he year 2014 will have its own significance in history, not simply because the BJP won an absolute majority but because the country has seen a tectonic shift since 2014 when it comes to public delivery of goods and services. The years under the UPA government were horrendous, disgraceful and disconnected from reality. A strong wind of change came from the direction of the BJP and now people are directly reaping benefits. People-centric governance has consistently been the focus of Hon’ble PM Shri Narendra Modi ji and this is why he is extremely popular among the people across the country. In the eight years of governance under the dynamic and visionary leadership of PM Modi ji till date, India has grown by leaps and bounds. There is now an atmosphere of self-belief and confidence all around. Entrepreneurship has been given a massive boost. The fact that investors are increasingly confident when it comes to our start-ups is quite telling. What better encouragement than the Prime Minister himself emphasizing on the importance of wealth creators and their contribution to the nation’s economy? Another revolution that has taken place under the initiative of PM Modi is financial inclusion through the Pradhan Mantri Dhan Yojana. The number of beneficiaries under this scheme has touched the 44 crore mark. People who earlier did not have access to banking and did not have any savings are now enabled and empowered. Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana is another initiative which has brought about complete transformation in people’s lives. In my state of Nagaland itself, especially in the rural areas, the change is quite visible. Women do not have to worry about collecting firewood any
longer nor do they have to risk their health anymore. Perhaps, the most important change is that they now get to spend more time with their families. It may seem insignificant to us but for them, their worlds have undergone a significant change. The Jal Jeevan Mission is another personal project of the Prime Minister which needs to be mentioned. This mission of providing safe and adequate drinking water through individual household tap connections is literally creating waves across the country. Coming back to Nagaland once again, the Jal Jeevan Mission is creating wholesome and holistic changes in people’s lives. The dream of getting piped water connections is now a reality. People no longer have to traverse kilometres to fetch water. It is also even more beneficial for womenfolk because it is mostly women who do the water fetching. I myself have seen the smiles on people’s faces. They say it’s like a dream that they finally have tap water connections. With tap water connection, many things are ensured - from health to safety to dignity etc. It would not be fair if I do not highlight the PM Awas Yojana. This particular scheme has not only provided an abode but most importantly, it has provided our women with the respect that they rightly deserve. The fact that women are key to these schemes are an important feature of Narendra Modi’s leadership qualities wherein he has never failed to reiterate that women are equal partners on the road to development and progress of the country. Nari Shakti of the country cannot be ignored any longer. I would also be amiss if I do not mention the world’s largest healthcare scheme in the form of Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana which has provided relief and recourse to countless citizens. For the
vulnerable section of Indian society, it was a distant dream to even think of undergoing medical treatment because of the high costs involved but now affordable healthcare is a reality for which our Hon’ble PM Shri Narendra Modi ji deserves to be rightfully appreciated. The public delivery of goods and services under the Modi government has been efficient and effective. The lingering gaps that separated the people from the government have now been filled and there is a special bond enjoyed between the people and the present-day government under Hon’ble PM Shri Narendra Modi ji. What Modi ji is doing now is laying the foundations for a strong and self-reliant India. In the years to come, we will witness a vibrant India whose time has come to lead from the front. I’m aware there are many schemes, laws and policies passed by the Modi government which have been a blessing to the people of this country. From national security to environment to entrepreneurship to sports to education, the list is endless. However, I’ve made the choice of highlighting only the abovementioned schemes this time mainly due to the magnitude of their impact. This is not to say other schemes are not doing the same. In a nutshell, I have tried to capture the essence of Hon’ble PM Shri Narendra Modi ji and the impact his astute leadership has on India’s 138 crore citizens. For the first time in many years, we have a Prime Minister who understands the pulse of the nation and who respects the people, their aspirations and lends support to their voices. Our nation is truly blessed and history will bear testimony to his leadership in the days to come. S. Phangnon Konyak, MP, Rajya Sabha
ne of the best things that we can do in life is to donate blood and save someone’s life. Though all of us may donate blood but most of us never donate blood and that is why many people die because of shortage of blood. Each and every one of us can donate blood when we fulfill certain criteria like weights, proper age, etc. Of the 118.5 million blood donations collected globally, 40% of these are collected in high-income countries, home to 16% of the world’s population. In low-income countries, up to 54 % of blood transfusions are given to children under 5 years of age; whereas in highincome countries, the most frequently transfused patient group is over 60 years of age, accounting for up to 76% of all transfusions. An increase of 10.7 million blood donations from voluntary unpaid donors has been reported from 2008 to 2018. In total, 79 countries collect over 90% of their blood supply from voluntary unpaid blood donors; however, 54 countries collect more than 50% of their blood supply from family/replacement or paid donors. Only 56 of 171 reporting countries produce plasma-derived medicinal products (PDMP) through the fractionation of plasma collected in the reporting countries. A total of 91 countries reported that all PDMP are imported, 16 countries reported that no PDMP were used during the reporting period, and 8 countries did not respond to the question. We are aware that blood and blood products are essential resources for effective management of women suffering from bleeding associated with pregnancy and childbirth; children suffering from severe anaemia due to malaria and malnutrition; patients with blood and bone marrow disorders, inherited disorders of haemoglobin and immune deficiency conditions; victims of trauma, emergencies, disasters and accidents; as well as patients undergoing advanced medical and surgical procedures. The need for blood is universal, but access to blood for all those who need it is not. Blood shortages are particularly acute in low- and middle-income countries. To raise awareness related to blood donors, one day is specially observed around the world. World Blood Donor Day (WBDD) takes place on 14 June each year and was created to raise global awareness of the need for safe blood and blood products for transfusion; highlight the critical contribution voluntary,
unpaid blood donors make to national health systems; support national blood transfusion services, blood donor organizations and other nongovernmental organizations in strengthening and expanding their voluntary blood donor programmes by reinforcing national and local campaigns. To ensure that everyone who needs transfusion has access to safe blood, all countries need voluntary, unpaid blood donors who give blood regularly. The irony is that there are individuals who have donated blood every year and there are individuals who have never donated blood in their lifetime. For 2022, the WBDD slogan is “Donating blood is an act of solidarity. The specific objectives of this year’s campaign are to thank blood donors in the world and create wider public awareness of the need for regular, unpaid blood donation apart from others. There is no doubt that most people can give blood if they are in good health. There are some basic requirements one needs to fulfil in order to become a blood donor. We should not forget that safe blood is essential for helping people of all ages who suffer from diseases, disasters and accidents. Our donation saves lives and makes our community safe. Blood transfusion saves lives and improves health, but many patients requiring transfusion do not have timely access to safe blood. The World Health Organisation (WHO) recommends that all activities related to blood collection, testing, processing, storage and distribution be coordinated at the national level through effective organization and integrated blood supply networks. Together we can make a difference and India may be a leading nation who can even export blood whenever needed. If all Indians started donating blood then there may not be a shortage of blood in the country and we may even export to other countries whenever needed. The voluntary donor must get support from the blood banks to encourage more voluntary blood donations. There are many organisations in our country who organize different blood donation camps and we can also become part of such voluntary blood donation camps. Let us be a proud blood donor and save lives. Ranjan K Baruah, Ganeshguri, Guwahati bkranjan@gmail.com (With inputs from UN/WHO publication)

Saudi blogger Raif Badaai, jailed for insulting Islam, and Egyptian intellectual Ahmed Abdo Maher, sentenced for refuting classical theology, were persecuted by nation-states seeking to shore up their flagging legitimacy—not al-Qaeda or Islamic State jihadists. India, through this period, witnessed its own blasphemy campaign. From 2014 to 2018, an official United States government study notes, India ranked fourth, behind Pakistan, Iran and Russia, for the number of religious-offence prosecutions it initiated. Instead of stilling religious tensions, scholar C.S. Adcock has noted, the law gave “strategic value to invoking or mobilising wounded religious feelings.” Laws to curb hate speech, the argument goes, are necessary to keep the peace in societies with varied, but passionately held, belief systems. The argument’s proved deeply misguided. Faith and democratic values For one thing, as the philosopher Kenan Malik points out, “hate speech restriction has become a means not of addressing specific issues about intimidation or incitement, but of enforcing general social regulation.” Legal restrictions on speech elide over that deeper problem of large numbers of people finding contemptible ideas morally worthy. The Indian government might prosecute some hate speech—but this covers up the unwillingness newspaper nor that of the
to challenge the sentiments it expresses. I m p o r t a n t ly, h a t e speech prosecutions haven’t ensured communal peace in India; they’ve engendered fear, censorship, and competitive mobilisation to control the State system. The law has deterred few religious chauvinists. Few professors, though, would risk teaching DN Jha’s The Myth of the Holy Cow or Wendy Doniger’s The Hindus, Maxime Rodinson’s Muhammad or Reza Aslan’s Zealot. The Indian government’s action against hate speech might be geopolitically expedient, but it will feed a cycle of competitive religious-nationalist mobilisation. Hindu nationalists will seek to recover their hegemonic position, while Right-wing Muslims will increasingly reach out to the global religious community for support. The State and society will be mired in these competing, toxic currents. Enlightenment philosophers laid the foundations for modern democracies by asserting that while human beings have rights, ideas do not. Gods, just like atheism, communism, capitalism or psycho-babble, must make their case. Al-Ma’arri, centuries before the Europeans, invited us to consider a world where Gods might be able to take a little mocking—and, perhaps, take some of the criticism on board. The poet wasn’t an optimist, though. The human race, he wrote, was divided into two: One, man intelligent without religion, The second, religious without intellect. He said NPCC would be fielding candidates in all 60 Assembly constituencies, unless there was an alliance with any party. Depending on the availability of candidates, he mentioned that the party would field 50% candidates below 50 years, men or women. Stating that it was too early to talk about any electoral alliance, AICC secretary Mukherjee added that Congress was now getting ready for the Assembly elections next year. He said NPCC would talk to parties opposed to North East Democratic Alliance.

Government IT spending in India to reach $9.5 bn this year
NEW DELHI, JUN 13 (IANS): The government IT spending in India is likely to reach $9.5 billion in 2022, an increase of 12.1 per cent from last year, a new report said on Monday. Software will continue to be the highest growing segment in India this year, followed by IT services. “Contrary to the worldwide spending, all segments will experience growth in 2022 in India,” said Apeksha Kaushik, principal analyst at Gartner. increase of 5 per cent from 2021. Continuing the trend from 2021, software is forecast to record the strongest growth across all segments in 2022. As legacy modernization continues to be a priority in government organizations, growth in the data center systems segment will continue to slow though the forecast period, the report mentioned. “Governments are executing innovative activities by harnessing technology to streamline digital services, advance automation processes and evolve citizen experiences,” said Daniel Snyder, director analyst at Gartner. HSBC India to lend USD 250 million to startups
NEW DELHI, JUN 13 (PTI): Foreign lender HSBC India on Monday announced that it will lend USD 250 million to startups in the country. The bank did not specify the timeframe for disbursal of the amount. The lending will be done to high-growth, tech-led startups in the third largest startup ecosystem in the world, the lender said in a statement. The lending, which comes amid increased focus on startups’ debt needs by financial intermediaries locally and a ‘funding winter’ impacting equity funding to the sector, will be managed by the lender’s commercial banking vertical. The commercial banking vertical in India had witnessed a 42 per cent jump in its profit for 2021 at USD 265 million as against USD 187 million in the year ago period. Loans to small and medium enterprises tripled to USD 1 billion in 2021 as against USD 300 million in 2018, the bank said. “… we recognise the need for startups to access finance to support their growth ambitions and scale up their business. This segment is poised for significant growth and we look forward to supporting its growth momentum,” its head for commercial banking in the country Rajat Verma said.
Azheto unhappy over cabinet’s flip-flop on dist boundary demarcation (From p-1) new step, but suggested that proper demarcation should be made before notification. However, he lamented that the state government, without consulting the MLAs and affected area stakeholders, issued the notification on December 20, 2021, on the separation and creation of Niuland and Chümoukedma from Dimapur. He said that initially East Dimapur and Dhansaripar block were all put under Chümoukedima district. However, after complaints, he said East Dimapur was returned to Dimapur. MLA said that after several meetings with Joint Coordination Committee of Villages (JCCV) for Dimapur district, the com-
mittee also agreed to stay under Chümoukedima district. Zhimomi, however, claimed that the state cabinet, without revoking December 20 notification, on June 3, 2022 took the decision on the demarcation, placing several Sumi villages under Dhansaripar block under Peren district. He said the Western Sumi Hoho (WSH), in this regard, has recently served an ultimatum on the state government to revoke June 3 order and stick to December 20 notification. Asserting that Cabinet should be aware of what it was were doing, Azheto said one should be aware of past notifications and not make orders without consulting past orders. “The decisions of the

Inflation in the food basket in May 2022 was at 7.97 per cent, down from 8.31 per cent in the previous month, as per data released by the National Statistical Office (NSO) on Monday. The food basket has weightage of 39.06 per cent in the overall CPI. As per the data, the inflation print in ‘cereals and products’ segment eased to 5.33 per cent in May as against 5.96 per cent in the preceding month, while that
9.54 per cent from 10.80 per cent in April. “In the coming months, the spillovers from global commodity and food prices would continue to add stress to domestic prices. We thus do not see India’s inflation cooling down in the near term and in such a scenario maintaining the strength of domestic demand will be crucial from policy perspective,” said Vivek Rathi, Director-Research, Knight Frank India. The Reser ve Bank, which factors in the CPI in its monetary policy, had earlier this month raised the inflation forecast for the current financial year to 6.7 per cent from its previous estimate of 5.7 per cent. As per the RBI’s projections, inflation in the first quarter of the fiscal is likely to be 7.5 per cent and at 7.4 per cent in the following three months. It is expected to decline to to 6.2 per cent and 5.8 per cent in the third and fourth quarters, respectively.

Retail inflation eases to 7.04 pc in May
NEW DELHI, JUN 13 (PTI): Retail inflation eased to 7.04 per cent in May, mainly on account of softening food and fuel prices as the government as well as the RBI stepped in to control spiralling price rise by way of duty cuts and repo rate hike. However, the inflation print stayed above the Reserve Bank’s upper tolerance level of 6 per cent for the fifth month in a row. This may prompt the central bank to further hike the repo rate at its next policy meeting in August. Earlier last week, the Reserve Bank in its bimonthly monetary policy review raised the benchmark repo rate -- at which it lends short term money to banks -- by a sharp 0.50 per cent to 4.90 per cent to rein in spiralling prices. It followed an off-cycle meeting on May 4, when the central bank hiked the repo rate by 0.40 per cent. The Consumer Price Index (CPI) based retail in-

Militaries of Pak & China agree to step up defence cooperation ISLAMABAD/BEIJING, JUN 13 (PTI): China and Pakistan have agreed to step up their defence and counter-terrorism cooperation amidst “challenging times”, as Pakistan Army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa held wide-ranging talks with the Chinese military leadership to further cement their all-weather strategic partnership. Gen Bajwa, accompanied by top Pakistani defence officials, held talks with the Chinese team led by Vice Chairman Central Military Commission General Zhang Youxia in Qingdao, the capital city of east China’s Shandong province on Sunday. The tri-service military delegation of Pakistan visited China from June 9 to 12 where it held wideranging discussions with senior officials of the Chinese military and other government departments, according to a statement by the Pakistan Army. The Apex Meeting was held on Sunday where

the Pakistani side was headed by Gen Bajwa, while the Chinese side was led by General Zhang. “Both sides discussed their perspectives on the international and regional security situation, and expressed satisfaction on defence cooperation between the two countries,” according to the statement. “Pakistan and China reaffirmed their strategic partnership in challenging times and agreed to continue the regular exchange of perspectives on issues of mutual interest. Both sides also vowed to enhance their training, technology
and counterterrorism cooperation at the tri-service level,” it added. “China and Pakistan are all-weather strategic cooperative partners,” said Gen Zhang, noting that over the years, both sides have kept close coordination and firmly supported each other on issues concerning each other’s core interests. During the talks, Gen. Zhang said China is willing to strengthen communication, reinforce cooperation, deepen pragmatic exchanges with Pakistan, and properly deal with the complicated factors in the regional
situation, so as to push the military-to-military relations for further development, the Chinese military said in a statement. In the meeting, both sides strongly condemned the terrorist attack on the shuttle van of the Confucius Institute at the University of Karachi in Pakistan in April and stressed that any attempt to undermine the China-Pakistan friendship is doomed to fail, the statement said. Three Chinese teachers were killed when an explosion triggered by a burqa-clad woman suicide bomber from the Baluchistan Liberation Army (BLA) ripped through a van of the Confucius Institute at the prestigious University of Karachi on April 26. The separatist BLA said it opposes Chinese investment in Pakistan’s resource-rich Balochistan province, saying locals do not benefit. The BLA has targeted Chinese nationals on a number of occasions, as has the Pakistani Taliban.
Row over Prophet Mohammad is India’s ‘internal issue’: senior Bangladeshi Minister DHAKA, JUN 13 (PTI): The controversy triggered by remarks made by two former BJP functionaries against Prophet Mohammad is India’s “internal issue” and it is not an attention-grabbing matter in Bangladesh unlike in some other Muslim nations, a senior Bangladeshi minister has said, as he dismissed criticism that the country’s government is “compromising” on the issue. Information and Broadcasting Minister Hasan Mahmud also “congratulated” the Indian government for taking legal action over the issue and said that any statement against the Prophet should be condemned. Talking to a group of visiting Indian journalists here, he noted that an FIR has been registered in India on this issue and hoped that further action would also be taken. To a question about the fundamentalists accusing Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina-led government of compromising on the issue, he said, “the Bangladesh government is not compromising over the remarks

against the Prophet and it will never do that. I myself have condemned it...I have condemned the issue in a public meeting.” In the context of the Bangladesh government not officially condemning the issue, Mahmud called it an external matter for his country. “It is not an internal matter (of Bangladesh), but an external issue. This is India’s internal issue. Whenever something like this happens in the world, some Islamic parties protest here too and it usually happens,” he said. Here in Bangladesh, it is not much an attention-grabbing issue as it is for Arab countries, Pakistan and Malaysia, he said. “’If anything is said against Prophet Mohammad anywhere, it should be condemned. We congratu-
late the Indian government for taking legal action against those who commented on the Prophet,” Mahmud said. The BJP suspended its national spokesperson Nupur Sharma and expelled its Delhi media head Naveen Kumar Jindal after their c o n t r ove r s i a l r e m a r k s against the Prophet, as it sought to defuse a row over the issue. Amid protests by Muslim groups over the remarks, the party also issued a statement aimed at assuaging the concerns of minorities and distancing itself from these members, asserting that it respects all religions and strongly denounces the insult of any religious personality. Over a dozen Muslim countries have condemned the controversial remarks. Delhi Police has registered an FIR against Sharma, Jindal and some others in connection with the remarks on the Prophet. Mahmud said there are some “fanatic” groups in Bangladesh who, despite being very few in numbers and not getting any kind of support, make noises vigorously.
NZ PM Jacinda reshuffles cabinet WELLINGTON, JUN 13 (AGENCIES): New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has made changes to her Cabinet line-up by replacing ministers for police, immigration and justice. Chris Hipkins who was responsible for COVID-19 response takes over as Minister of Police, and Ayesha Verrall who is currently the associate health minister will be in charge of COVID-19 response, Ardern said after a Cabinet meeting on Monday. The move was in response to the wide criticism of government inaction towards increasing gang violence in several New Zealand cities and deteriorating public security. The new police focus will be on supporting the police, implementing the record investment in the frontline, passing further gun law reforms and developing additional measures to deal with the current escalation in gang tensions and violence, said the prime minister. Current Police Minister Poto Williams will continue her conservation and disability portfolios.

C O LO M B O, J U N 1 3 (PTI): Nearly 10 per cent of Sri Lanka’s 22 million population were already staring at food security issues before the pandemic, which turned even direr when authorities shut down the economy and imposed a blanket ban on the use of chemical fertilisers, according to data released by the country’s central statistical agency on Monday. At present, the UN estimates that nearly a quarter of the island nation’s population requires food assistance and lacks basic dietary needs and nutritious requirements. “By the end of 2019, as much as 9.1 per cent of the Sri Lankan population was at the risk of not having access to basic food items, out of which 0.9 per cent or nearly 200,000 people were on the brink of facing starvation,” the Department of Census and Statistics said. The share of food insecurity surged to 9.45 per cent at the household level, indicating that one in every 10 families had serious issues when accessing dietary needs and nutritious requirements, the nodal agency said. Ferdinando’s revelation had sparked a political controversy forcing him to retract his statement and finally leading to his resignation on Monday. Sri Lanka’s Minister of Power and Energy Kanchana Wijesekera tweeted, “I have accepted the letter of resignation tendered to me by the CEB Chairman Mr MMC Ferdinando. Vice Chairman Nalinda Ilangaokoon will take over as the New Chairman CEB.” Ferdinando had told the Parliamentary Watchdog Committee On Public Enterprises (COPE) session that Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa asked him to award a 500-megawatt renewable energy project to the Adani Group due to pressure from Narendra Modi. Later, Ferdinando retracted his statement claiming that what he had said was incorrect. Issuing a statement addressed to COPE Chair Dr. Charitha Herath, the former CEB chairman had said that he was compelled without limitation to express the word ‘Indian Prime Minister’ due to unexpected ‘pressure and emotions’ during the discussion.

near the base of the brain that induce symptoms of sickness in response to infection. However, animal research doesn’t always pan out in humans. The neurons are in an area of the hypothalamus, a part of the brain that controls key functions that keep the body in a balanced, healthy state. Located right next to a permeable section of the brain called the blood-brain barrier, which helps circulates blood to the brain. These neurons have receptors that
detect molecular signals from the immune system, an ability most neurons don’t have. “It was important for us to establish this general principle that the brain can even sense these immune states,” because this “was poorly understood before,” said study author Jessica Osterhout. She is a postdoctoral researcher in the lab of Catherine Dulac, a professor of molecular and cellular biology and of arts and sciences at Harvard University.
“If we know how it works, perhaps we can help patients who have difficulty with these kinds of symptoms, like chemo patients or cancer patients, for example, who have a very low appetite but there’s really nothing we can do for them,” Osterhout noted in a Harvard news release. The original goal of the study, published June 8 in the journal Nature, was to examine what’s known as the fever effect in people with autism. It refers to a reduction in autism symptoms when a patient has infection symptoms such as a fever. The researchers wanted to find the neurons that generate fever and link them to neurons involved with social behavior. Instead, they found neurons that are activated when a mouse is sick. The team plans further investigation into other effects of the neurons they identified in this study and to revisit the fever effect in people with autism. By Robert Preidt HealthDay Reporter

esearchers pinpointed about 1,000 previously unidentified neurons near the base of the brain that induce symptoms of sickness in response to infection. A small area of your brain triggers the familiar symptoms of fever, chills, fatigue and loss of appetite when you have a viral or bacterial infection, new animal research suggests. The findings could eventually lead to ways to reverse this process when symptoms pose a risk to patients, such as when a fever gets too high or people don’t eat or drink enough, according to the Harvard University scientists. It was already known that in response to information from the immune system, the brain causes symptoms of illness when people get sick. But how and where this happens in the brain had remained a mystery. Until now. In the new study with mice, the researchers pinpointed about 1,000 previously unidentified neurons
