Make Model College functional, says KSU DIMAPUR, APR 13 (NPN): Konyak Students’ Union (KSU) has appealed to the state government to make Model College at Wakching under Mon District fully functional starting this academic session. KSU president T Noklem Konyak and general secretary A Pangnan stated that foundation stone of the Model College was laid on June 27, 2015 and inaugurated on February 3, 2019, but the college remained non-functional till date. KSU has expressed dismay at the “blatant negligence” on the part of the state government and the department. Even after submitting several representations by KSU and Eastern Nagaland College Students’ Union (ENCSU), the union said that the government has turned a blind eye to the issue. The union has, therefore, urged the government to immediately intervene and make the college functional.

extremely strong recommendation.” “The situation is far from over with regard to the Covid-19 pandemic, the circulation of the virus is still very active, mortality remains high and the virus is evolving in an unpredictable way,” committee chair Didier Houssin warned during a press conference. “Now is not the time for relaxation on this virus, nor weakness in surveillance, testing and reporting, nor laxity in public and social health measures and no resignation when it comes
to vaccination.” Globally, in the week to Sunday, the number of new Covid-19 cases and deaths continued to decline for a third consecutive week, with more than seven million cases and over 22,000 deaths reported. This was the lowest number of Covid deaths since the early days of the pandemic. But, some countries continue to report serious spikes in cases, which is putting pressure on hospitals, said Tedros, adding that the world is “still in the middle of the pandemic”. “This virus has over time become more transmissible and it remains deadly especially for the unprotected and unvaccinated that don’t have access to health care and antivirals,” he said. WHO chief urged all to get vaccinated and continue following COVID protocols.

DIMAPUR, APR 13 (NPN): A new transporter body in the name and style of All Nagaland Goods Movers Union (ANGMU) has been formed under the initiative of Dimapur Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI). In a press release, DCCI vice president V Shikuto Achumi informed that the formation of the new transport union comes against the backdrop of the September 25, 2021 joint meeting wherein the then Dimapur transport union was banned and subsequently dissolved. The joint meet was convened by Confederation of Nagaland Chamber of Commerce & Industry (CNCCI) and DCCI. The chamber informed that formation of ANGMU was necessitated as there was an urgent need to have a transporter union to facilitate
smooth flow of goods and essential commodities into the state especially the commercial hub Dimapur. DCCI said that the new transport body would also act as a bridge between transporters, traders and various government agencies to ensure and streamline supply of goods and essential commodities. Besides, it would also check random illegal taxation that was responsible for price inflation. DCCI stated that it would strictly monitor the functioning of ANGMU and work collectively for welfare of transporters and business community keeping in mind the sentiments of the common public. MoRTH dismisses false report on vehicle fitness fee
ASU not to cooperate with present NSF team; asks govt to resolve NIDA issue by April 17
DIMAPUR, APR 13 (NPN): The Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (MoRTH) on Wednesday dismissed some false/ misleading news items, which claimed that the penalty for delay in fitness of the vehicles has been increased drastically by the Central government. The ministr y, in a statement, stated that such news items were “totally false, misleading and beyond any truth.” It clarified that MoRTH had issued a notification vide GSR 714 (E) dt October 4, 2021 for revision of registration fee, fitness testing fee and fitness certification fee of vehicles. It said the notification was issued as a disincentive for vehicle owners who have vehicles more than 15 years old conforming to BS I/II/ III emission norms, which were comparatively more polluting as compared to vehicles conforming to BS IV/VI emission norms.
state government’s attention on this issue, if it is dictated by any party, that advocates unfair proposition.” ASU reminded that even as it had been championing the superannuation issue in line with the NSF in the past, it has reiterated that the case involving the demand of NIDA on the superannuation issue was “unique as compared to other service sectors” especially in the light of the declaration by prime minister Narendra Modi, “ to enhance the age of superannuation of medical doctors to 65 years on 26th May, 2016, followed by cabinet approval on 27th September, 2017 and amendment of the Fundamental Rules (Second Amendment) on 11th August 2018” and implementation of the age of superannuation for medical doctors by the rest of the states. ASU said it had categorically asserted to the NSF “to examine this need
DIMAPUR, APR 13 (NPN): Angami Students Union (ASU) has decided to “not cooperate with the incumbent NSF team, until such time the union (ASU) retrieve its faith on the federation and the matter is widely put to rest.” According to ASU president Bisevi Nakhro and general secretary Mhalevilie Medoze, the decision to not cooperate with NSF was because it (ASU) was “extremely perturbed by the biased stand of the Naga Students Federation (NSF)” over the federation’s stand on the doctors’ superannuation issue as reported in several local dailies on April 12. Further, ASU also directed any Angami leaders, “participating/involving in NSF or its subordinate bodies, to withdraw their support until further notice, and thereof, the ASU will be constrained to be vigilant about their functionings.” ASU cautioned that the (Cont’d on p-8) union “shall not tolerate the
India logs 1,088 new Covid cases NEW DELHI, APR 13 (PTI): India saw a single day rise of 1,088 new Covid infections taking the total tally of cases to 4,30,38,016, while the death toll climbed to 5,21,736 with 26 fresh fatalities, the Health ministry stated. NPN adds: Nagaland on Wednesday reported three fresh cases while no deaths were recorded. All three cases were reported from Dimapur, taking the State’s total caseload to 35487. through the 2nd federal assembly by tabling the issue, considering the requirement of more medical doctors to facilitate the number of doctors and also to help early commencement of medical colleges in Nagaland.” However, ASU said that despite its appeal, the NSF had “blatantly taken a biased decision by remaining silent on Naga doctors of other Naga homeland states, who are already availing the age of superannuation by opposing the same extension for the state of Nagaland.” ASU maintained it saw no logic in the NSF’s silence when the other Naga homeland states under the umbrella of NSF implemented the superannuation and availing it. Further, ASU said recent press statements by NSF called for maintaining status quo but at the same time, giving space for superannuation, “if the existing superannuation policy is reviewed”. Irani schools Maha minister after the latter implied ‘Nagaland is not a part of India’ NEW DELHI, APR 13 (AGENCIES): Congress leader who is also the Minister of Women and Child Development in Maharashtra, Yashomati Thakur was schooled by Union minister Smriti Irani after she implied that Nagaland is not a part of India, OpIndia report stated. While addressing the Zonal Conference of States and Union Territories and stakeholders of the Western region in Mumbai on April 12, Yashomati talked about deportation to and from Nagaland, and the union minister had to interject
and correct the Maharashtra Minister that Nagaland was very much part of India and there was no deportation within Indian states. In the video, which also went viral on social media, Yashomati was heard saying, “With some states and countries we do have an MoU but with the others, especially, children coming from Nagaland… woman coming from Nagaland…they…”, before the Congress leader completed her sentence, Union Minister Smriti Irani interjected to remind her that Naga-
land is very much part of the country. Yashomati, for a second, rectified her statement by replacing ‘Nagaland’ with ‘Thailand’, but again quickly went on to justify her statement by saying, “It is our own country I understand, but there are children coming to the states and again ‘deported’ to the states without any notification. So Nagaland is also one of the states from where children come over here and we ‘deport’ them without any notification as we do not have an MoU within the states (Cont’d on p-8) also”.

NCR schools to shut but experts allay fears
NEW DELHI, APR 13 (AGENCIES): People with schoolgoing kids are on tenterhooks again after a number of students tested positive for Covid in a few National Capital Region schools, forcing the institutions to shut down temporarily. But public health experts and epidemiologists say that unless the rising instances of Covid-19 cases result in growing hospitalisation numbers or severe dis(Cont’d on p-8) ease there should be little to
worry about. The cases may only be a sign that Covid-19 is reaching an endemic phase in the country, they add. Over the last two days, at least three schools in Ghaziabad and Noida, satellite towns of Delhi, have announced a complete halt in physical classes switching to online mode after many students and some teachers tested positive for Covid. In one of the schools in Ghaziabad, 13 cases of Covid-19, including students
as well as teachers, were reported following which the school announced a closure for a week. Schools in Delhi say that they want to avoid closing the whole school in case of such an eventuality and will focus on monitoring and isolation. Delhi on Wednesday reported 299 new Covid-19 cases-- a marked rise from 137 cases on Monday, and zero death while the positivity rate stood at 2.49 per cent. K Y M C
