Correspondents
K O H I M A , M AY 1 7 (NPN): Incessant rains triggered a massive mudslide causing blockade on National Highway-29 at Chainage 155+245 major steel bridge around 22-23 km from the State capital, Kohima. On Tuesday, hundreds of vehicles plying the highway were stranded for several hours, while police had a difficult time trying to unlock the snarled-up traffic. When contacted, senior superintendent of police Kohima K Sophie informed Nagaland Post that continuous mudslide on the road affected movement of vehicles while Oasis Technocons Ltd workers were at the spot doing the job of clearing the mud. K O H I M A , M AY 1 7 (NPN): Core Committee on Naga Political Issue led by chief minister Neiphiu Rio will be meeting Union Home minister Amit Shah on Wednesday and return to Nagaland on Thursday. Highly placed sources informed Nagaland Post that the Core Committee comprising of Rio, deputy CM Y. Patton, UDA chairperson T.R. It was also learnt that the Core Committee members would also be meeting Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. Meanwhile, there were also rumours doing the rounds that some legislator(s) were contemplating to resign in order strengthen the demand for an early political solution to the decades old Naga issue before the State Assembly elections, slated to be held by February 2023.

while heavy vehicles were allowed only after 6 p.m. Sophie expressed ire at the indiscipline of some drivers who had only made matters worse during the traffic snarl. He said these drivers tried to forcefully drive past and ended up causing more problem by preventing vehicles to pass through in a single file. Due to the heavy traffic during the evening hours on this road, Sophie said
29 when an overloaded truck was stuck in the mudslide caused by incessant rains. The particular bottleneck was expected to be cleared by Wednesday morning after the truck is towed away on Tuesday night. The heavily loaded truck was on its way to Manipur, when it got stuck right crossing the steel girder bridge at Peducha, around 23 km from the State Capital
on Monday night. Sechü (Zubza) SDO (Civil) Tiayanger Jamir informed this correspondent that the truck would be towed around midnight Tuesday when traffic flow was less. He said the job of towing and clearing the point would be done midnight and take three to four hours, as the administration did not want to disrupt the heavy movement of vehicles.
CNSA says Patton’s remark was not ill intended
Rally against attempted rape in Jalukie
D I M A P U R , M AY 1 7 (NPN): Central Nagaland Students’ Association (CNSA) - Ao Students’ Conference (AKM), Lotha Students’ Union (LSU) and Sumi Kiphimi Kuqhakulu (SKK)- responded to the charge made against deputy chief minister Y. Patton by Chakhesang Students’ Union (CSU) which alleged that the remark was “an ill intent” to create division among Nagas on tribal lines. CNSA president Himato Yeptho and general secretary Lipemo M Tsopoe backed Patton and described that his speech at the CNTC meeting was “very positive manner and not intended
heavy machineries would be pressed into service only by midnight otherwise, the entire road would remain blocked for hours. He said opening of two-way traffic would depend on the weather condition as mud-slide was continuously happening. Traffic to be restored by today: Meanwhile, another traffic jam took place at another stretch of the NH-
to hurt the sentiments of the tribe”. CNSA said Patton had clearly stated that the reservation policy should be implemented in a pocketwise system in order to give equal opportunity to lower section of the society and give ample opportunity without any discrimination on tribal lines. It said Patton had also remarked that some parts of Ao area (Mangkolemba area), Lotha (Bhandari area) and Sumi (Satoi areas) were the most backward where reservation was needed. Hence, CNSA said it found Patton’s speech at the CNTC programme to have
had no ill-intention towards the Chakhesang tribe. It said Patton’s speech was only an expression of concern over the present system of reservation policy which should unite Nagaland to go handin-hand without any bias to build a new Nagaland. CNSA backed Patton’s statement and urged upon the government to review the reservation policy at the earliest. It also urged upon all right-thinking citizens not to misunderstand nor misinterpret Patton’s statement, but take things in a positive accord for future reformation in the government policies and work unitedly as brothers.

India aims to roll out 6G telecom network by end of decade: PM NEW DELHI, MAY 17 (PTI): India is targeting the rollout of 6G telecom network, which will provide ultra high speed internet connectivity, by the end of the decade, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Tuesday. India currently has 3G and 4G telecom networks and companies are gearing up to launch 5G over the next few months. Speaking at the silver jubilee event of telecom sector regulator TRAI here, he said it is estimated that the 5G network rollout will add USD 450 billion to the Indian economy. “This is not just increasing internet speed but also the pace of development and creating jobs,” he said, adding the 5G technology will bring positive change in governance of the country, ease of living and ease of doing business.
Narendra Modi (PTI)
It will boost growth in agriculture, health, education, infrastructure and logistics, he said. Connectivity, Modi said, will decide the progress of the country in the 21st century and so modern day infrastructure needs to be rolled out. According to the prime minister, a task force has started work on rolling out the 6G network by the end of the decade. Taking potshots at the
previous Congress-led UPA government, Modi said the 2G era was symbolic of policy paralysis and corruption. The country, under his government, has moved transparently to 4G and is now going to 5G and TRAI has played a very important role in this transition, Modi said. Indigenous 5G test bed in telecom sector is an important step in India’s self-reliance, he added. Telecom minister Ashwani Vaishnaw said the country’s scientists and engineers have developed a complete 4G stack which is ready for deployment by the BSNL and the 5G stack is at an advanced stage of development. “By the end of this year, we should see our indigenously developed 5G technology stack,” Vaishnaw said.

TACMCA cautions G&M deptt on coal auction PDMGDVA threatens to resume indefinite stir
D I M A P U R , M AY 1 7 (NPN): Tuli Area Coal Mining Contractors’ Association (TACMCA) has termed as “nothing but just a mockery” over the explanation of the Geology & Mining (G&M) department that “Coal auctioning” was in the interest of stakeholders. Tuli Area Coal Mining Contractors’ Association president Olemmar and secretary Tento Lcr demanded that the Geology & Mining department “ascertain and justify” the word “stakeholders” since TACMCA was a part and parcel as stakeholders.
According to TACMCA, the department’s stand had “no taste of any factual conclusion on its entirety.” The contractors’ association cautioned that if the government went ahead with its proposal to auction Nagaland coal in spite of stakeholders’ strong resentment, it will, as resolved at its executive meeting on May 16, 2022, not allow a single punch of coal to be transported from Tuli sector as well as from its stockyard/depot to any firm, association and or individual through the said auction process.
Further, the association suggested that instead of pursuing the auction process against the wishes of stakeholder in particular and the coal mining laborers in general, the Geology & Mining department should revoke the impugned order of cancellation & invalidation of all No Objection Certificate (NOC) for Rake Outward booking of Nagaland Coal from various loading points. TACMCA demanded that fresh NOCs be reissued and allow indigenous people to conveniently “advocate their respective busi-
ness of coal activities”. The association also maintained that stakeholders have been regularly paying royalty and other leviable taxes to the government as determined by the Geology & Mining department, government of Nagaland. TACMA warned that in the event the department acted against the wishes and desire of the stakeholders, then it would resort to democratic protest against the move, within its sector and for which the department would be responsible for any untoward eventualities.

call to all Naga tribal leaders to be more committed and active in uniting all Naga political groups and the people at large, as no solution was likely to be achieved unless Nagas united for one common goal irrespective of boundary demarcation. Niki said it was the Naga tribal leaders who
could work and bring the Nagas together, which would further give more weightage to their voice for solution. Niki reaffirmed NSCN/GPRN’s stand on peace and unity among all sections of Naga society and reminded the tribal leadersthat the group stood for unity first and solution second.
On his part, ato kilonser Starson Lamkang appreciated the positive response from the Southern Naga CSOs. Starson said Nagas must do away with ego and work together in their own interest. He called upon the leaders to be ambassadors of peace and unity. Speaking on the occasion, representatives of Southern Nagas said Nagas had fought together for their rights and therefore must resolve their differences and remain united to achieve their dreams and aspirations. The delegates denounced all sorts of violence that was against peace and wellbeing of the people and said lack of sincerity and commitment
of the leaders and difference of ideas among them would confuse the people and prove a setback for the Nagas at large. Appreciating the stand and commitment of the group, the leaders expressed the hope that Almighty God would surely answer the prayers of Nagas for peace and unity to prevail and for long lasting solution to the Naga political movement. Chaired by GPRN secretary Inovi Naga, the meeting earlier commenced with an invocation prayer by Nihokhu Sumi, kilonser of PR and NGOs, while speaker of National Tatar Hoho Mhonbemo Tsanglao proposed the vote of thanks.
pointed out that when the Chakhesang Public Organisation (CPO)’s PIL pertaining to damaged compensation was “seemingly reaching” conclusion in the Gauhati High Court, the state respondent again pleaded the Court on April 6, 2022 for more time to file a ‘clarificatory affidavit’. PDMGDVA said the Court accordingly granted four-week time to the state respondent, and listed the matter on May 11, 2022 categorically stating that no further time would be granted for the said purpose. The association, however, said that when the
matter came before the Court on May 11, 2022, the State Respondent once again pleaded for more time on “flimsy ground.” It said the Court, in spite of last order not to grant further time, granted another two-week time to the state respondent and the matter was listed again on May 25, 2022. Stating that it was not unaware if payment for the damaged compensation was thrusted upon State Government alone, the association said it would become a burden beyond its capacity. (Cont’d on p-8)
India starts testing flu patients ‘selectively’ as Covid numbers plateau NEW DELHI, MAY 17 (AGENCIES): India has been reporting over 2,000 COVID-19 cases every day for a while now. And now the government has decided to widen the net by selectively conducting 6-8 lakh RT-PCR tests per day, as per a report by LiveMint. It will test people with flu-like symptoms of cold, cough and fever. “Now RTPCR testing is being done for those patients with symptoms like fever, cough and cold or with flu-like symptoms visiting at the sentinel sites such as hospitals,” said a government official who wished to remain anonymous.
After the third wave, a lot of people have rated the pandemic causing virus as ‘mild’; refusing to visit the hospitals or even test. This new strategy intends to keep a close watch on the virus and its patterns for scientists to study it closely. The government is also known to have expanded sewage sample surveillance. “Sewage samples let us know that if cases are going to increase in any particular area, the viral load in the sample increases,” said another official. Sewage testing involves surveillance and monitoring of the sewage water or the water that we flush down the toilets. K Y M C
