Modi is committed to solve Naga issue: Dr Singh Correspondent
KOHIMA, AUG 17 (NPN): Union Minister of State for External Affairs and Education, Dr RK Ranjan Singh said, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was?(NOT ANY LONGER?) committed to solving Naga issue. Addressing a presser at hotel Japfü, here Tuesday, Dr Singh said prior to Modi’s government, talks on Naga issue were held rather like “tea parties” where the two sides come to round table discussions and
leave without any positive outcome. However, after Modi became the PM, he showed his seriousness on the issue by signing the framework agreement right away which was targeted at bringing peace to Nagaland and subsequently to the whole region, Dr Singh said. On the reason behind inducting him into the ministry in the recent reshuffle and allotting him with two prestigious portfolios, Dr Singh said it showed that PM was especially interested

in the development of the region as a whole. PM Modi has frequently described Northeast as his aspirational region and that without the development
and connectivity of the region the country cannot develop. He has changed the region from a landlocked to land-linked area, Dr Singh said. (Cont’d on p-)

KOHIMA, AUG 17 (NPN): State chief minister Neiphiu Rio warned the people of the State that without hard work, poverty would continue to singe the State. Speaking at the launch
of “Nagaland SDG Vision 2030” and “District SDG Localisation & Integration Manual” during the Statelevel Workshop on SDG India Index 2020-21and Multidimensional Poverty Index at Capital Convention Centre here on Friday, Rio observed
that too many programmes were being carried out without proper knowledge, because of which many got wasted. He remarked that North-eastern States, especially the hill States, lagged behind rest of the country in terms of economic growth due to low investments, adding that there was hardly any elbow room for the State government to meet the large investments needed for capital and infrastructure development in Nagaland.
D I M A P U R , AU G 1 7 (NPN): Nagaland Bar Association (NBA) said there was no need to constitute Naga Tribunals as the Rules for the Administration of Justice and Police

Zhimomi pointed out that the Rules of 1937 provided that customary law would be administered at the village level and between persons belonging to the same tribe. They men-
tioned that the Nagaland Village Councils (Fourth Amendment) Act, 2009 was not an enactment for the purpose of conferring judicial authority. (Full text on p-6)
