Performance Incentive Grants available for all 1953 Government schools in three batches over a two year period role as guardians of public institutions. Thavaseelan said, of the total 1953 government schools, 1741 applications were received, out of which 743 applications were shortlisted for the first batch based on specific set of criteria after thorough screening of the applications. Orientation and Capacity Building for the School Management Committees (SMCs) and School Management and
Development Committees (SMDCs) of the shortlisted schools covering all the districts were conducted in the District Headquarters from May 16 to 24. PIG proposals for 738 schools have been approved and the funds will be disbursed directly to the SMC and SMDC accounts by the last week of June 2022 post signing of the memorandum of understanding (MoUs). The work implementation period is from
July 1 to November 15, 2022. In order to ensure accountability, he said a robust monitoring mechanism has been put in place. In the event of any misuse of funds, SMCs/SMDCs may be blacklisted and furthermore excluded from availing future grants from the project/department. All shortlisted schools have been informed to contact the District Project Assistants (NECTAR) or EBRC co-ordinators (SAMAGRA) for signing of the MoU on or before June 24, 2022. Thavaseelan noted that lack of information and capacity of SMCs and SMDCs has hindered their involvement in the school system. Therefore, he said in order to build capacity and to enhance participation and promote commitment of the SMCs and SMDCs, the Performance Incentive Grants is being
made available for all government schools. Criteria: Thavaseelan said SMCs and SMDCs will be given the liberty to make their own need-based proposals (Action Plan). While the guidelines discourage major infrastructural works, the committees are encouraged to focus on improving and augmenting the school learning environment and undertake urgent repair and renovations. As part of community engagement, activities like monthly SMC/SMDC meetings, half yearly Parent Teacher meetings, outreach to dropouts and vulnerable groups have been made mandatory. The committees are also encouraged to come up with innovative activities and ways to revive indigenous practices through story telling sessions, hands-on sessions in handicraft, weaving, gardening, farming, etc.
Agnipath row: Govt announces incentives; offers talks as protests spread NEW DELHI, JUN 18 (PTI): The Centre on Saturday announced several incentives including reserving 10 per cent vacancies in the defence ministry and paramilitary forces for Agnipath retirees as violent protests raged on against the new military recruitment scheme in many states and opposition parties stepped up pressure for its rollback. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, however, strongly defended the scheme saying it was brought after wide-ranging consultations and suggested a misunderstanding was being spread for political reasons. “I would like to ap-
Agnipath protest: Centre asks states, UTs to be on alert KOLKATA, JUNE 18 (IANS): In the wake of growing tension over Agnipath, the proposed scheme of the Central government for short-term services in the Indian armed forces, spreading from one state to another, the Centre, on Saturday, sent a note of caution to all states and Union Territories (UTs) regarding tackling the continued agitations on this count. The letter signed by deputy secretary to Central government, Archana Varma, has been addressed to all chief secretaries, advisors to administrators of all states and UTs, DGPs, police commissioners of Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, and Chennai.

Singh also met Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhari, Navy Chief Admiral R Hari Kumar and Vice Chief of Army Staff Gen B S Raju and is learnt to have discussed a quick rollout of the Agnipath scheme and ways to pacify the agitators.
Protests continue: Despite the Centre’s steps to assuage concerns, there was no let-up in the protests. Mobs set ablaze Taregana railway station in Bihar during a bandh on Saturday and vandalised Ludhiana railway station in Punjab, as protesters continued to target railway properties on the fourth day of the stir and blocked roads and rail tracks in several states including West Bengal, Haryana, Rajasthan, Odisha and Uttar Pradesh. There was also cross-firing and journalists covering the clash were assaulted in Bihar. (Cont’d on p-7)

DIMAPUR, JUN 18 (NPN): State BJP president and minister for Higher Education and Tribal Affairs, Temjen Imna Along on Saturday said it was too early to speculate anything about seat sharing with the NDPP for 2023 Assembly elections. Though the Central leadership was committed to the current alliance with NDPP (40:20 seat sharing formula), Along said things would be made clear at the right time. Speaking to Nagaland Post on the sideline of the State BJP Executive meeting here at IMC Hall, Dimapur, Along further said that the party was yet to discuss about seat sharing with the NDPP. He was of the view that nothing was definite as the final call will be made by the Central leadership. After the recent merger of 21 NFP legislators, the ruling NDPP now has 42 legislators in the 60-member House. As reported earlier, the recent merger has all the more created an uneasy within the BJP over the 2018 pre-poll seat sharing pact of 40:20 between the NDPP and BJP. With NDPP con-
sidering two independent MLAs as part of the party, this will obviously mean NDPP will have 42+2= 44 ticket aspirants. NDPP will now have to contend with the claims of all 44 for NDPP tickets. This would arithmetically mean that BJP will have only 12+4=16 seats. Meanwhile, delivering the presidential address at the State BJP Executive meeting, Along, while referring to the seat sharing issue, called upon the party workers to remain steadfast as the Central leadership would decide on what was best for the party. Along also urged party workers to give ear to the whispers of the political wind in the state, and also tune their minds in line with the directives of the Central leadership, instead of the state giving them the directives. “We need to listen to the whispers of Nagaland and hear the voice of our central leaders”, Along stated. Acknowledging the active participation of all morchas at every booth level, Along stated that BJP was emerging to be a socially active political party, connected to the grassroots level, whilst carrying the visions,
4-point resolution
At the meeting, the party adopted a four-point resolution, among which the State BJP unit unanimously resolved to extend full support to the BJP led government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi and congratulate the successful eight years completion of the Modi government. The party also resolved to activate membership drive across the State, with objective to strengthen BJP Nagaland State at all levels. The State BJP karyakartas firmly resolved to stand and abide by the directives of the Central leaders in every political aspect. With the creation of new administrative districts-- Tseminyu, Shamator, Chümoukedima, Noklak and Niuland, the house resolved to propose Central BJP HQ for creation of new district BJP office in the newly created Districts. Earlier, the programme was chaired by state BJP vice president Kavili Achumi and invocation offered by associate pastor DABA, Imnatoshi Longkumer, while lighting of lamp was initiated by state BJP president Temjen Imna Along and colleagues, and welcome address was delivered by advisor for power Tovihoto Ayemi.
NPCC demands roll back of ‘Agnipath scheme’ India logs over 13,000 Covid-19 cases after 113 days DIMAPUR, JUN 18 (NPN): With massive protest across the country against the Centre’s decision to implement ‘Agnipath’ scheme for the recruitment in the defence forces, Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) has demanded the roll back of the scheme until the government comes up with a better plan for the future of the youth. NPCC president K. Therie said Agnipath should be withdrawn instead of simply adopting a wait-andwatch policy on the outcomes of the scheme. Stating that the scheme would destroy the future of the youth at their prime age of learn-
ing, Therie said that 75% of the proposed ‘Agniveers’ would be unemployed by their mid 20s with low educational qualifications, which would end up destroying their future prospects. Moreover, he said the intended benefit (Seva Nidhi Package) for approximately 12 lakhs could not be termed as “an adequate resource to sustain lifelong livelihood” and that the 75% of Agniveers could not be left with an uncertain future after making huge sacrifices for the country. He also pointed out the possibility of candidates who would be trained as Agniveers and complete
service but end up in “fringe elements and organisations” which will be detrimental to the interests of the nation. Therie said four years (inclusive of just about 6 months training), along with the current leave was also not adequate to build a strong battle worthy army with camaraderie. He said the army relied to a great extent on this trait which could only be built with time. As soldiers normally require years to train, he said six months training would mean a “short cut in training” and would definitely have serious compromises on a force tasked with defense of the nation.
NEW DELHI, JUN 18 (AGENCIES): India recorded yet another singleday spike on Saturday as the daily case count of new Covid-19 cases crossed 13,000-mark. The health ministry data shows that this is the first time after 113 days that India has seen more than 13,000 cases in a span of 24 hours. The gover nment records show that India logged 13,216 fresh Covid-19 infections in the last 24 hours. The country also recorded 23 Covid deaths, pushing the death toll to 5,24,840. The more troubling
trend is the sharp spike in active case count. The present tally is nearing 70,000mark. The health ministry’s morning bulletin showed 68,108 active cases across India. While the daily positivity rate stands at 2.73 per cent, the weekly positivity rate has been recorded at 2.47 per cent, the Centre’s records show. Genome sequencing: States and Union territories have been asked to submit “larger number” of samples for whole genome sequencing from districts and areas which have seen a surge in COVID-19 cases over a period of seven days, official
sources said on Saturday. The direction was issued during Friday’s meeting by the INSACOG which reviewed the COVID-19 data to check the possibility of any new emerging variant or sub-variant and ascertain the reasons behind the breakthrough infections. “The idea behind asking states and UTs to send larger number of samples is to keep a closer watch over the current circulating sublineagues of Omicron and its correlation to the current epidemiological picture,” an official said. “Also, we want to see if we are missing out any important clues regarding
newer sub variants during routine sequencing through the sentinel surveillance,” the official added. Thirty-two districts in India including eleven from Kerala and five from Maharashtra are reporting a weekly Covid positivity rate of more than 10 per cent while in 35 districts including 9 from Delhi, the weekly positivity is between 5 and 10 per cent, sources said. As on date, 10 states and Union territories -- Maharashtra, Kerala, Delhi, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Telangana, West Bengal and Gujarat have over 1,000 cases.

He said the killing of the Horn-
inhumane manner deserved condemnation from all sections of the society, and especially having occurred in a state where the Great Indian Hornbill is revered and embedded into the culture of its people. To k a h o r e m i n d e d all that hunting has been banned throughout the state and that there was a standing order from the government “that hunting/killing of any wildlife can lead to complete cessation of all developmental funds to any village caught violating the order.” Her further stressed on the need for a collective
on conservation of wildlife and environment with the involvement of all stakeholders including village councils, churches, student unions, NGOs and all other local bodies including government agencies. While not denying that Nagas have had a history of hunting, he said there was a special need to work towards changing the mindset of the people as empathy towards wildlife has to come from within and this challenge still looms. “Let us all collectively work for conservation and may such an incident never occur ever again,” he stated.
DIMAPUR, JUN 18 (NPN): Global Naga Forum (GNF) delegation, which met Assam chief minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma in Guwahati on June 16, conveyed its desire for a solution based on-“Respect for Naga historical and political rights; official recognition of Naga flag and the constitution; inclusive solution-- a solution for all the Naga political groups and Naga areas; demilitarization of the region and complete autonomy in governance over all the ancestral Naga homeland.”
In a representation to Sarma, jointly signed by GNF convenor Chuba Ozukum, co-convenor Prof Rosemary, secretary, Prof Paul Pimomo, and advisors, James Wanglat and Dr. Visier Sanyu, sought Sarma’s on intervention on their behalf, stating that he was “in a key position to influence a peaceful resolution of the long-running Indo-Naga political problem.” GNF maintained that Nagas believes the government of India understood the nature of Naga cause and that there has “got to
be a meeting place between this understanding and the long-held Naga aspiration for a just and honourable settlement.” “We have confidence that a just solution based on these commitments will restore Naga dignity and rights, end the armed conflicts in the region, and bring permanent peace not only in the region but in India and Myanmar,” GNF stated. The forum said that for the Naga people, the stand was clear-- “commitment to our human dignity and rights as a people.” K Y M C

1 Death anniversary
DIMAPUR: Highlighting the problem of inadequate teaching faculties at Wangkhao Government C o l l e g e ( WG C ) a n d g ove r n m e n t s c h o o l s, Konyak Students’ Union (KSU) has asked the state government to enhance number of faculties at the college and revoke transfer orders of two teachers from two particular Government Middle School (GMS). In a press release, KSU president, T. Noklem Konyak and general
secretary, A. Pangnan have demanded “immediate enhancement” of two professors for English, three for Education, two for Economics, one for History, three for Political Science and three for Sociology before the resumption of this academic session for the smooth functioning of WGC. KSU reminded that the union submitted a representation to the Director Higher Education Nagaland: Kohima, through
the Deputy Commissioner Mon on June 17, 2021, citing the inadequate teaching faculties at WGC in comparison to the other Government Colleges in Nagaland. The union pointed out that the college has only 26 assistant professors, out of which 14 are on contractual basis and the 12 others on regular basis. KSU expressed dee p anguish that the responsible authority did not pay any heed to the
demands made by the union and the authority of WGC regarding shortage of assistant professions which lead to rejection of hundreds of students every year because of insufficient creation of section for new semester. The union has also expressed dismay over “blatant misuse of power” by the department of school education by transferring
two teachers from GMS Yannu Village and GMS Phuktong Village without reliever, without knowing the “fact that both the government schools lack adequate teachers”. Demanding that the department immediately revoke the transfer orders of the two teachers, KSU said it would not tolerate transfer of any teachers from Mon District without reliever.

He warned that the BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be better to step back from its decision of introducing the scheme at the earliest. The state CPI leader alleged that since the BJP-led NDA government came to power eight years ago, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been creating troubles in the country. Modi has been giving emphasis on privatization and as such many government undertaking sectors have been in the hands of the private individuals, corporates and big businessmen. Since its very inception, the BJP-led NDA government had passed many controversial bills and enforced them as Acts. But, all of them had failed to yield positive results. The BJP had promised to impart employment to two crore youths per year. Instead, crores of youths have been made jobless due to the faulty policy of the government, he said. Despite the failures, he came up with a new scheme “Agnipath” that created unrest across the country with massive protests against the scheme. Modi said when he took over as the chief minister of Gujarat two decades back, malnutrition was a big challenge. “Ill-health not just affects a mother, but also the coming generations (her child). It determines the life of the child as well... Malnutrition was a big challenge here two decades ago when Gujarat gave me an opportunity to serve,” he said. Since then, the government started working in this direction by taking steps one after the other, and its positive results are being seen today, he said after the launch of Rs 800-crore Mukhya Mantri Matrushakti Yojana that will ensure nutritional food to pregnant woman during the initial days of her motherhood.

Modi said his mother always inspired him to have a strong resolve and focus on “garib kalyan” (welfare of poor), a theme of his government’s numerous welfare schemes. When the BJP picked him to be the Gujarat chief minister in 2001, he said, his mother was ecstatic and told him, “I don’t understand your work in the government but I just want you to never take a bribe.” Modi said his mother found happiness in other people’s joys and was extremely large-hearted. crores of women like her, I find there is nothing that is unachievable for Indian women,” Modi said in his blog post, which is available in several regional languages besides Hindi and English. “My mother is as simple as she is extraordinary. Just like all mothers,” he said The prime minister noted there were only two instances when his mother accompanied him publicly. Once, it was at a public function in Ahmedabad when she applied tilak on his forehead after he had returned from Srinagar where he had hoisted the national flag at the Lal Chowk after
completing the Ekta Yatra, he said. The second instance was when he first took oath as Gujarat’s chief minister in 2001. Modi said a life lesson his mother taught him was that it was possible to be learned without being formally educated. He said once he wanted to publicly honour all his teachers, including his biggest teacher -- his mother. However, his mother declined, saying she was an ordinary person. “I may have given birth to you but you have been taught and brought up by the Almighty,” Modi recalled her as saying. Modi said though his mother did not attend the event, she made sure that he invited someone from the family of Jethabhai Joshi, his local teacher who taught him the alphabet. “Her thought process and far-sighted thinking have always surprised me,” he said. Describing his mother as “a symbol of resilience”, Modi recalled the hardships she faced during her childhood after losing her mother at a very young age.
She does not even remember her mother’s face or the comfort of her lap as she spent her entire childhood without her, he added. The prime minister recalled that his family stayed in a small mud house in Vadnagar with clay tiles for a roof. He also mentioned the everyday adversities that his mother encountered and successfully overcame. “During the rains, our roof would leak and the house would flood. Mother would place buckets and utensils below the leaks to collect the rainwater. Even in this adverse situation, mother would be a symbol of resilience,” he said. He said not only did his mother do all the household chores herself but she also worked to supplement the meagre household income. She used to wash utensils at a few houses and take out the time to spin the ‘charkha’ to help meet the household expenses, he added. Modi said his mother also had deep respect for those engaged in cleaning and sanitation work. Cleanliness was something that his mother was always extremely particular about, he said.

Honouring fathers
uring the 20th Century, two American women were instrumental in reminding societies of the need to honour the father and the mother whose contributions have been taken for granted and unheralded. The two American women- Anna Jarvis of Philadelphia, who is credited with having Mother’s Day observed first in the USA in 1914 and Sonora Dodd from Washington, was instrumental in making Father’s Day a national event in the USA in 1910. Father’s Day is observed on the third Sunday of June every year while Mother’s Day is observed on the second Sunday of May every year. Father and mother as parents, find mention in the Bible which instructs them to be obedient to their parents in the Lord. The bible instructs parents to bring up their children in the way of the Lord- `Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it (Prov.22.6). A mother is the first teacher of the child in kindergarten and the father is the second teacher from primary level. Both parents build foundations of the child’s character and personality. The foundation formed through biblical teachings also promote ethical values. That is why Ephesians 6:1-3 says “Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right; that it may go well with you and that you may live long in the earth.” Exodus 20:12 is also explicit when it says : “Honor your father and mother, so that your days may be long in the land that the LORD your God is giving you.” The Bible places much value on obedience and honour to the father and mother. Obedience is not a one-way traffic for children but also involved both father or mother. Ephesians 6:4, says “ Fathers, do not provoke your children to wrath; instead, bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.” The Bible presents the power of the father as the primary authority of the family for many centuries. His word was unquestioned, his decision final, his influence dominant in all matters relating to family. Few of the qualities that make a good father are – dependability, involvement in family affairs, takes interest in everyone on a daily basis ; values and respects the children’s mother; is honest and ensures that children value integrity; is a friend to his children and is hardworking and a model of healthy work ethic. A father still makes a difference even in the changed environment and can be a teacher, encourager and role model to his family. A good father makes all the difference in a child’s life. On the flip side, however a man may be good but can be a bad father. This is clearly illustrated in the Bible regarding Eli (the high priest of Shiloh). According to the Bible, Eli was guilty of fathering errors. As high priest he was a model but failed to impact godly values in his sons. There is a term called ‘fatherhood’ to include child rearing responsibilities and fathering activities as well, regardless of whether they are carried out by biological or non biological fathers. The lack of fatherhood or failure to provide the direction has resulted in many problems in contemporary society. On Father’s Day, honour also means rededicating themselves to their godly responsibility as dutiful, faithful husbands and loving guides and companions to their children.
DailyDevotion Keep Recognizing Jesus
…Peter…walked on the water to go to Jesus. But when he saw that the wind was boisterous, he was afraid… — Matthew 14:29-30
The wind really was boisterous and the waves really were high, but Peter didn’t see them at first. He didn’t consider them at all; he simply recognized his Lord, stepped out in recognition of Him, and “walked on the water.” Then he began to take those things around him into account, and instantly, down he went. Why couldn’t our Lord have enabled him to walk at the bottom of the waves, as well as on top of them? He could have, yet neither could be done without Peter’s continuing recognition of the Lord Jesus. We step right out with recognition of God in some things, then self-consideration enters our lives and down we go. If you are truly recognizing your Lord, you have no business being concerned about how and where He engineers your circumstances. The things surrounding you are real, but when you look at them you are immediately overwhelmed, and even unable to recognize Jesus. Then comes His rebuke, “…why did you doubt?” (Matthew 14:31). Let your actual circumstances be what they may, but keep recognizing Jesus, maintaining complete reliance upon Him. If you debate for even one second when God has spoken, it is all over for you. Never start to say, “Well, I wonder if He really did speak to me?” Be reckless immediately— totally unrestrained and willing to risk everything— by casting your all upon Him. You do not know when His voice will come to you, but whenever the realization of God comes, even in the faintest way imaginable, be determined to recklessly abandon yourself, surrendering everything to Him. It is only through abandonment of yourself and your circumstances that you will recognize Him. You will only recognize His voice more clearly through recklessness— being willing to risk your all.

NAGALAND POST, DIMAPUR SUNDAY, JUNE 19, 2022
I
n earlier times, a man would say, ‘my wife is pregnant.’ Now, with more inclusive words, a man says, ‘we are pregnant.’ An inclusive word like ‘we’ sounds authentic and more participatory in the process of pregnancy, childbearing and child-raising. Inter national Fathers’ Day reminds the world about the participation of ‘fathers’ in raising families, forming children, and contributing to society and the world. This day does not merely praise ‘fathers’ but critically scrutinizes their role in societal growth – politically, religiously and socially. Political Fathers In the context of India, the ‘so-called’ democratically elected Members of the Legislative Assembly are supposed to be lawmakers. I used the word ‘so-called’ to hint at incidents where some legislators are not elected freely and fairly. It is a good sign that more and more educated MLAs are filling up the honourable seats at the assembly halls.
A
Fathers as leaders
The danger lies in notso-educated legislators who could be influenced by money, muscle power or ethnic lines. All the same, voters look up to MLAs as their political fathers (mothers) as they have sworn to uphold the constitution of India and work impartially for all people. With that trust, people approach them to address their concerns and bring peace and development to society. MLAs have a significant role to play as political fathers for the people of their constituencies and states they belong. When Lal Bahdur Shastri was the Railway M i n i s t e r, h e t o l d h i s mother that he works in railway. He once came to an event organized by Railway where his mother also came, asking that her son is in the railway. People asked, what is his name? She said, ‘Lal Bahadur Shahstri’. People thought she was lying. She insisted that her son has gone for work in the railway. People took her
infront of Lal Bahadur Shastriji and asked, ‘Is this your son?’ She said, ‘Yes, this is my son’. People showed the minister, ‘Is this your mother?’ Then Shastriji called his mother and sat with her and after sometimes sent her home. So the reporters asked, ‘Why didn’t you give a speech in front of your mother?’ Shastriji said, ‘My mother does not know that I am a minister. If she comes to know, she will start recommending people and I will not be able to refuse … and she will also have arrogance.’ Everyone was shocked to hear the answer. We always look up to Shastriji as our ideal. Religious fathers While the Catholic church uses the ter m ‘Father’ to address their priests, other Christian denominations use words like pastor, evangelist, reverend, etc., to address their religious heads. Whatever the form of address is, they are all religious fathers trying their best to care for the spiritual well-being
of their members. Of course, it is high time to oversee the education, emotion, psychology and environmental well-being of the people under their mentorship. Shouting ‘Halleluiah, Praise the Lord, Amen’ alone will not work now in this fastchanging global inflation crisis and deteriorating ecology. God has to be found in the Bible and outside the Bible too. All created things on earth should be respected and nurtured. Humans should cease to think that we are the epitome of creation. Inclusive existence philosophy has to creep into our untaught minds and enlarge our idea of spirituality. Church leaders should expand themselves a n d t e a c h p e a c e, c o existence, environmental c a r e, r e s p e c t f o r a l l communities, and the true meaning of ‘spirituality’. Since ordinary people take what the church leaders say as gospel tr uth, it is pertinent to appoint theologically sound persons as church leaders.
Social fathers Innumerable social leaders rise above ranks, a r e l ove d b y p e o p l e, a n d g i ve t h e m s e l ve s for people’s welfare (or section of people). Their area of popularity may depend on their influence and community spread. We have national, state, district, and village social leaders. Entrepreneurs, educators, artists, actors, lyricists, book writers, journalists, commentators, philanthropists, activists, and motivators can be called socially-oriented fathers (mothers). They either reflect on the past and present; or foresee the future and add their master y touch to ar t, creativity, sciences, social sciences and the like. They are influential persons who can mould people’s minds towards a particular goal. A society that curbs i t s p e o p l e ’s c r e a t i ve and original thinking potentials is a new form of dictatorship. And we know what dictatorial regimes are experiencing in the world.
There will be various other forms of ‘fatherhood’ in our lives. To have educated, balanced, intellectually matured fathers, we must educate our sons today. Holistic education plays an important role here. Sectarian and cocooned types of education will give us an inverted notion of education. We need to study philosophies of the world, histories, and psychological positions of the world so we can be locally effective for our people. We need the existence of democracy where dissents are welcome for the holistic picture of a thing. We require a secularist worldview. We hope to see and experience overall societal growth through our ‘fathers’ wisdom. PM will become ‘maafiveer’: Rahul on Agnipath scheme NEW DELHI, JUN 18 (PTI): Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Saturday said that just as Prime Minister Narendra Modi had to withdraw the farm laws, he will have to accept the demand of the youth and rollback the Agnipath defence recruitment scheme. The former Congress chief also said that for eight consecutive years, the BJP government has “insulted” the values of ‘Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan’. Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also stepped up her attack on the government over the Agnipath scheme and urged the Centre to understand the pain of the rural youth preparing for recruitment in the armed forces. A man was shot dead in police firing in Telangana’s Secunderabad, trains went up in flames, and public and private vehicles were attacked, as railway stations and highways turned into

battlegrounds in many states on Friday amid burgeoning protests against Agnipath. In a tweet in Hindi, Rahul Gandhi said, “I had said earlier also that the prime minister will have to withdraw the black farm laws.” “In the same manner, he will have to accept the demand of the youth of the country by becoming ‘maafiveer’ and take back the ‘Agnipath’ scheme,” he said. In a tweet in Hindi, Priyanka Gandhi said, “Understand the pain of the rural youth preparing for Army recruitment. No recruitment for the past three years.”
Congress president Sonia Gandhi Saturday termed “directionless” the Centre’s ‘Agnipath’ scheme for recruitment in the armed forces, and said her party will work for its withdrawal. She also appealed to the youths protesting against the scheme to adopt peaceful and non-violent means to fight for their demands. “It is unfortunate that the government has announced a new armed forces’ recruitment policy, which is completely directionless and it has done so while ignoring your voices,” she said in a statement in Hindi, addressed to the youths. Declaring her party’s support for them, the Congress president said along with the youths, several ex-soldiers and defence experts have questioned the scheme.
7 Agnipath row: Govt announces incentives; Plea in SC for SIT probe into protests against Agnipath offers talks as protests spread NEW DELHI, JUN 18 passed in a suo motu case NATIONAL
(From p-1) Railways cancelled 369 trains on Saturday and passengers faced a harrowing time. Over 200 trains were cancelled a day earlier after the railways faced the brunt of the protests. The agitation also spread to the southern states of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Kerala, with aspirants doing push-ups on roads at some places to register their protest. With the protesting youths alleging that they will be left in a lurch with no retirement benefits after the end of the four-year contract under the scheme, the ministries of home affairs and defence announced concessions and incentives that will assist retirees in their further employment. The central government indicated that other departments too were working in this direction after several BJP-ruled states like Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh and Assam announced various measures
Centre to move SC on ESZ around protected forests
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, JUN 18 (PTI): The Centre on Saturday said it would be approaching the Supreme Court in connection with its order to create a one-kilometre eco-sensitive zone (ESZ) around all wildlife sanctuaries and national parks in the wake of rising protests in the high ranges of Kerala against the apex court direction. Responding to a query on the ongoing protest in Kerala over the apex court order, Union Minister of State for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public
Distribution and Environment, Forest and Climate Change Ashwini Kumar Choubey said any verdict of the Supreme Court has to be accepted. Expressing their anguish over the implications of the Supreme Court order, farmers in high range areas of the state had been holding various forms of protests including hartals for the past two weeks urging the Centre and state governments to seek legal remedies to exclude human habitations from the one-km eco-sensitive zone around protected forests,
national parks and wildlife sanctuaries. The state government has said it would explore the legal options to take care of the livelihood options of the people living in such areas. The apex court recently issued a direction that each protected forest, including national parks and wildlife sanctuaries, must have an eco-sensitive zone of one kilometre and banned mining activities within such parks across the nation. The high range areas of Kerala, particularly ar-
eas in Idukki, Wayanad, Kottayam and Pathanamthitta districts, had been witnessing hartals by various political and farmers’ groups against the apex court order delivered on June 3. Issuing a slew of directions, a bench headed by Justice L Nageswara Rao had on June 3 ordered that no permanent structure will be allowed within such ESZs and said if the local law or other rules provide for an ESZ of more than one kilometre then the earlier provision would continue to apply.
to encourage the youths to apply under the Agnipath scheme and assured them reservation. Several state governments have also announced that Agniveers, after serving the armed forces for four years, will be given preference in filling vacancies in state police forces. What Centre has offered: The Ministr y of Home Affairs (MHA) said it has decided to reserve 10 per cent vacancies for recruitment in CAPFs and Assam Rifles for Agniveers. “The MHA also decides to give 3 years age relaxation beyond the prescribed upper age limit to Agniveers for recruitment in CAPFs & Assam Rifles,” the ministry tweeted. Further, for the first batch of Agniveers, the age relaxation will be for five years beyond the prescribed upper age limit, it said. At present, jawans between the age of 18-23 years are recruited into the paramilitary forces. A 10 per cent reservation will be implemented in
the Indian Coast Guard and defence civilian posts, and all the 16 Defence Public Sector Undertakings, according to Defence Minister Rajnath Singh’s office. It said this reservation would be in addition to the existing quota for ex-servicemen. “Defence Public Sector Undertakings will be advised to make similar amendments to their respective recruitment rules. Necessary age relaxation provision will also be made,” it said. “It is bringing revolutionary changes in the recruitment process in the armed forces. Some people are spreading misunderstanding about it. Maybe, there could be some confusion among the people as it is a new scheme,” Singh said speaking at the conclave organised by a media group. Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said the PSUs under his housing and petroleum ministries are working on hiring ‘Agniveers’ and also slammed the Opposition for spreading “misinformation”.
(PTI): A PIL has been filed in the Supreme Court seeking a direction to set up a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the damage to public properties including that of railways and violent protests against the Centre’s Agnipath scheme. The PIL has been filed by advocate Vishal Tiwari, who also sought directions to the Centre and Uttar Pradesh, Telangana, Bihar, Haryana and Rajasthan governments to submit a status report on the violent protests. Tiwari in his plea also sought a direction to set up an expert committee under the chairmanship of retired apex court judge to examine the scheme and its impact on national security and Army. He further sought directions to the Centre and the states arrayed as parties to appoint claim commissioners under the guidelines laid down by the apex court in its verdict of 2009
initiated after incidents of damages to public properties. “The petitioner through this present Public Interest Litigation (Civil) under Article 32 of the Constitution of India would like to bring to the court’s attention the devastated condition of the country resulting from the Agnipath scheme launched by the Respondent No.1 (Union of India) through its Ministry of Defence,” the plea said. It said that the consequence has been far reaching for the citizens of this country resulting in intensified vandalism and protest leading to severe destruction of public property and goods. “The country is yet again witnessing another such societal upset and fatal condition due to the recent launch of the Agnipath scheme dated June 14, 2022 by the Respondent No. 1 through its Ministry of Defence,” it said.

India, EU trade pact to help unleash significant untapped potential: Goyal
BRUSSELS, JUN 18 (PTI): With India and the European Union (EU) formally resuming negotiations for proposed agreements on trade, investments and geographical indications (GI), Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal has said implementation of these pacts would help unleash the significant untapped potential for enhancing economic ties between the two regions. India and the EU on June 17 formally resumed negotiations on the proposed agreements, after a gap of over eight years. Goyal said they were here to relaunch the negotiations for a fair, equitable and balanced free trade agreement (FTA) between the EU and India. “We have our teams in place...It will further strengthen our relations. Our bilateral trade has grown significantly in the last few months...There is a significant untapped potential which we will hope to
Piyush Goyal
unleash with the execution of these three agreements -trade , investment and GIs,” he told reporters here. India had started negotiations for a trade pact, dubbed the Bilateral Trade and Investment Agreement (BTIA), with the 27-country economic bloc in 2007, but the talks stalled in 2013 as both sides failed to reach an agreement on key issues, including customs duties on automobiles and spirits, and the movement of professionals. Asked about the key demands from the Indian side, Goyal said India wishes to engage with the world on modern products and look at areas where it can gain in terms of new technology
and investments. “All cards are on the table and we are coming with an open heart and an open mind... Agreements do not have to always be about gain or demands, I think agreements also have to be which is good for both negotiating teams and for the people,” he said. He added that there was a time when India was “super sensitive” on issues like gender and sustainability, but in the last few years, the country has demonstrated to the world “very deep commitment on these subjects”. “We are looking at technology, we are looking at long term larger finance and low cost in order to transition much faster on the sustainable side,” he added. European Commission Executive Vice-President Valdis Dombrovskis said both sides are aiming for an ambitious and comprehensive FTA. When asked about the major demands of the EU on automobile,
ByteDance shuts game devp studio, lays off over 100 HONG KONG, JUN 18 (IANS): China-based ByteDance has shut down a game development studio, laying off more than 100 employees, media reports said. ByteDance, TikTok’s parent company, shut down the ‘101 Studio’ in Shanghai it had acquired three years ago. “TikTok owner ByteDance is disbanding one of its main game studios due to its disappointing
performance,” Nikkei Asia reported. The gaming studio had around 300 employees and according to the report, some of them have been transferred to other verticals within ByteDance. ByteDance’s 2019 acquisition of the core group behind 101 Studio was “seen as laying the groundwork to challenge the dominance of Tencent Holdings in mobile gaming”. The development
came as TikTok is reportedly planning to make a major push into gaming. The short-video making platform has reportedly conducted tests that let users in Vietnam play games within its app. According to TikTok, the only game currently available to users on its platform is Zynga’s “Disco Loco 3D,” a music and dance challenge mini-game.

wines and sustainability issues, he said, “According to WTO (World Trade Organisation) standards, these kinds of agreements have to cover essentially all trade. There can be some specific exemptions...As regards sustainability, I will say no modern agreement in the EU is possible without ambitious trade and sustainable development chapters.” These chapters typically cover issues related to employment, broader environment, human and labour rights, he added. “The next round of negotiations will take place from June 27 till July 1 in New Delhi. We are pursuing an ambitious timeline and we aim to conclude the talks by the end of 2023,” Dombrovskis said. The EU and India are already major trading partners, with an annual trade of 120 billion Euros. The EU is India’s third largest trade partner, accounting for almost 11 per cent of Indian trade in 2021.

Indian investors wary as mega crypto sell-off continues
NEW DELHI, JUN 18 (IANS): As foreign portfolio investors continue to pull out money from the Indian equity market, the sell-off in the crypto market and the digital asset space has also accelerated in the wake of global economic meltdown. More than $200 billion were wiped off the entire cryptocurrency market this week and the globally crypto market capitalisation fell below $1 trillion for the first time since February 2021, according to data from CoinMarketCap. The already sinking cryptocurrency market in India is also witnessing a huge sell-off as the prices of Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies nosedive amid volatile market conditions triggered by factors like high inflation, rising in-
terest rates, the RussiaUkraine war, and China lockdowns. According to experts, crypto investors and traders in India are currently exercising caution and a distinct dip in crypto buying has been noticed. Nischal Shetty, cofounder of cryptocurrency exchange WazirX, said: “Indian investors are cau-

What to know about men and stroke
stroke, sometimes called a “brain attack,” happens when blood flow to an area in the brain is cut off. The brain cells, deprived of the oxygen and glucose needed to survive, die. If not caught early, permanent brain damage and death can result. Strokes are the fifth leading cause of death in men (and the third most common cause of death in women), yet most guys can’t name one stroke symptom. Here’s how to recognize and prevent them. Why Should I Care About Strokes? If you’re like most middle-aged guys, you probably don’t spend much time worrying about a stroke. After all, strokes are a risk we associate with later in life -- something to think about after we retire and are fitted with our first pair of dentures. But maybe we should be a little more concerned. They are indeed more likely in men over age 65, but they can happen at any age. Strokes are also more likely to be fatal and strike earlier in men than in women. The consequences of a stroke can be devastating. Not only can a stroke kill you, but nonfatal strokes can leave you severely debilitated, paralyzed, or unable to communicate. However, the news isn’t all bleak. About 80% of strokes are preventable. So it’s time to improve your odds. If you’re at risk, you need to learn the signs of stroke and make some changes in your lifestyle. Knowing the risk fac-
tors and signs of a stroke is the first step in stroke prevention. There are two types of stroke: Ischemic strokes are similar to a heart attack, except they happen in the blood vessels of the brain. Clots can form either in the brain’s blood vessels, in blood vessels leading to the brain, or even blood vessels elsewhere in the body that travel to the brain. These clots block blood flow to the brain’s cells, choking off oxygen to a part of the brain. Without oxygen, brain cells first go into shock and then start dying. So the longer you go without stroke treatment, the greater the damage to your brain. Ischemic strokes can also happen when too much plaque (fatty deposits and cholesterol) clogs the brain’s blood vessels. These are the most common type of stroke. About 80% of strokes are ischemic. Hemorrhagic strokes happen when a blood vessel in the brain breaks or ruptures. The result is blood seeping into the
brain, causing damage to brain cells. While less common, these strokes can be more devastating. Although the cause is different from an ischemic stroke, the result is the same: Brain cells can’t get the blood they need. More than 60% of people who have a hemorrhagic stroke die within a year, and those who survive tend to be much more disabled. The most common causes of hemorrhagic stroke are high blood pressure and brain aneurysms. An aneurysm is a weakness or thinness in the blood vessel wall. The most common symptoms of a stroke are: Weakness or numbness of the face, arm, or leg on one side of the body Loss of vision or dimming (like a curtain falling) in one or both eyes Loss of speech, difficulty talking, or understanding what others are saying Sudden, severe headache with no known cause Loss of balance or unstable walking, usually combined with another

symptom Immediately call 911 if you or someone you know has symptoms of a stroke. Stroke is a medical emergency. Immediate treatment can save your life or increase your chances for a full recovery. The American Heart Association uses the memory tool known as F.A.S.T. to recognize signs of stroke: Facial drooping Arm weakness Slurring of speech Time to call 911 Up to half of strokes are preventable. Many risk factors can be controlled before they cause problems. Controllable risk factors Include: High blood pressure Atrial fibrillation Uncontrolled diabetes High cholesterol Smoking Heavy drinking Being overweight Carotid or coronary artery disease Uncontrollable risk factors include: Age (People over age 65)

Ranji Trophy: MP to face Mumbai in final Bengal added 79 runs to their overnight score of 96 for 4 and with 83 overs set to be bowled, Kartikeya and MP wrapped it up in just 28.2 overs. “It’s Manoj’s dismissal last evening that was the turning point,” admitted MP coach Chandrakant Pandit, the man who incidentally was skipper when
the team last played the finals in the 1998-99 season. No wonder, the players that impressed the national selectors were Kartikeya and Rajat Patidar. It was some sight as their teammates curiously watched from the dressing room door seeing chief selector Chetan Sharma speak to the duo.
Mumbai march into final
Kartikeya leads Madhya Pradesh to 174-run win over Bengal.
ALUR/BENGALURU, JUN 18 (PTI): Bengal needed 350 runs to win a tough semi-final but left-arm spinner Kumar Kartikeya bowled out an under-pressure team to exactly half of the target to take Madhya Pradesh to Ranji Trophy final after 23 years. Kartikeya, who has been impressive in an otherwise disastrous IPL campaign for Mumbai Indians, bowled 32 overs out of the 65.2 overs that Bengal faced to make 175. His final figures read 32-1067-5 for a match haul of 8 for 128. It wasn’t the defeat that will hurt Bengal but the manner in which they
lost would hurt them the most. It was an abject surrender. Kartikeya actually played with the opposition batters’ minds and even their top-scoring skipper, Abhimanyu Easwaran (78), looked beaten from the start. It was evident when Abhishek Raman, who bagged a pair, forgot to take guard on Friday afternoon. On Saturday morning, Anushtup Majumdar suddenly realised that he has forgotten to wear his thigh guard. It was nervousness as he edged the first delivery without showing any footwork. It was a delivery that he would have left on any
other day. Easwaran seemed too intent to impress the troika of national selectors, present to watch the match, rather than trying to be be counter offensive. An innings that could make him a worthy contender for a spot in the Test team. Easwaran certainly lacks the ability to win tough games. He quietly accumulated runs but not for once did it seem that he is going for the chase. Once Kar tikeya knocked his off stump back with a delivery that kept a touch low, the writing was on the wall. Sayan Sekhar Mondal had a match he would like to forget in a hurry.
Domestic giants Mumbai completed the formality of qualifying for the Ranji Trophy final by virtue of first innings lead on the final day of their last-four match against Uttar Pradesh, here on Saturday. The 41-time champions, Mumbai thoroughly dominated from the first ball of the game, which ended in a draw, at the Just Cricket Academy ground. Mumbai had posted 393 in their first innings and then bundled out Uttar Pradesh for a meagre 180, to gain a massive first-innings lead. When play ended on the fourth day on Friday, Mumbai had piled up a mammoth 449 for 4 in their second essay, courtesy hundreds by Yashasvi Jaiswal and Armaan Jaffer. At stumps of Day 4, Mumbai took an overall lead of 662 runs, making it amply clear that there was only one result possible from the match. On Saturday, play began after lunch due to wet out-field and overnight batters Sarfaraz Khan and Shams Mulani continued to torment the UP bowlers. Both Sarfaraz (59 not out) and Mulani (51 not out) completed their half-centuries, after which both the captains decided to shake hands. Mumbai posted 533 for 4 in their second essay. Sarfaraz hit one boundary and three sixes, while Mulani hammered six fours. Mumbai will meet Madhya Pradesh in the final, which will be played at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium from June 22. The final will be a battle between two former Mumbai players Amol Mazumdar and Chandrakant Pandit, who are coaches of Mumbai and MP respectively.

Osaka withdraws from Wimbledon
LO N D O N, J U N 1 8 (AGENCIES): Former world number one Naomi Osaka pulled out of Wimbledon on Saturday with an Achilles injury. “My Achilles still isn’t right so I’ll see you next time,” the four-time Grand Slam winner posted on Twitter. Osaka, 24, was already considering not playing over the ATP and WTA tours decision to strip Wimbledon of ranking points after the All England Club banned Russian and Belarusian players in response to the invasion of Ukraine. Osaka’s tweet, although not mentioning Wimbledon specifically, was accompanied by a photo of herself on a grass court, and an emoji of a blade of grass. The Japanese player
Naomi Osaka
first suffered the Achilles problem in her opening match in Madrid in May, the injury forcing her to pull out of the following Italian Open. This month she posted a video of a training exercise on social media accompanied by the caption; “Here’s me running on a underwater treadmill because my Achilles is being stubborn still I must be aging or something.” Osaka’s name had ap-
peared on the singles entry list for Wimbledon when it was released last week, but she has not featured in any of the grass-court warm-up events. Osaka, who has never got beyond the third round at the All England Club, raised the possibility of missing the grass court Grand Slam after her first round loss at last month’s French Open. “I’m leaning more towards not playing given the current circumstances. I’m the type of player that gets motivated by seeing my ranking go up,” she said. “I feel like if I play Wimbledon without points, it’s more like an exhibition,” she continued. “The intention of this measure was good, but the execution is all over the place.”

Neeraj wins at Kuortane Games
NEW DELHI, JUN 18 (PTI): Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra clinched his first top podium finish of the season by winning the javelin throw event at the Kuortane Games in Finland, beating reigning world champion Anderson Peters of Grenada for the second time in four days, on Saturday. The 24-year-old Chopra’s opening throw of 86.69m turned out to be the winning distance. Trinidad and Tobago’s 2012 Olympics champion Keshorn Walcott was second with a first round throw of 86.64m. Peters was third with a best throw of 84.75m, which also came in the opening round. C h o p r a ’s s e c o n d and third attempts were fouls and he did only three throws. That meant Chopra had single legal throw and he won the competition with it. His throw was not as big as the 89.30m effort while finishing second in the Paavo Nurmi Games in Turku, Finland, in a starstudded field but the win will surely boost his confidence ahead of the Stock-

MUMBAI, JUN 18 (IANS): India’s Pranati Nayak has bagged a bronze medal in the vault section of the 9th Asian Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Doha, Qatar. This is Pranati’s second medal in the Asian Championships, making her the only Indian to win two medals in the Continental Championships. Pranati, 27, who competed in last year’s Tokyo Olympics, continued to impress as she came up with scores of 13.400 and 13.367 in the first and second vault respectively. She thus finished with an overall score of 13.367 at Doha on Friday evening. With this score, Pranati finished behind South Korea’s Yeo Seo-Jeong (14.084) and Shoko Miyata (13.884) of Japan, who claimed gold and silver, respectively. Ashish Kumar had won a bronze medal in the floor exercise in 2006 in Surat while Dipa Karmakar, who finished fourth in the Rio Olympic Games, claimed
a bronze in 2015 in Hiroshima, Japan, making it four medals in all in the Asian Championships. With this, Pranati also qualified for the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships to be held in Liverpool, UK, in OctoberNovember this year. India have sent an eight-member contingent— four men and four women— to participate in the 9th Asian championships.
Chopra, also took part in the competition and finished eighth with a best throw of 60.35m. Peters is leading the charts this season with his monster throw of 93.07m while winning gold in the Doha Diamond League last month. Chopra’s 89.30m effort in Turku stands at fifth best of the season. Chopra had made a spectacular return to competition after his historic gold in the Tokyo Olympics with a stunning throw of 89.30m shattering his own national record, which placed him second in a star-studded field at the Paavo Nurmi Games in Turku, Finland, on Tuesday. Chopra’s first competitive event after just over 10 months was nothing short of extraordinary as he nearly touched the coveted 90m mark, considered the gold standard in the world of javelin throw. Chopra’s earlier national record was 88.07m which he had set in Patiala in March last year. He had won the Tokyo Olympics gold with a throw of 87.58m on August 7, 2021.

Tour than fourth-ranked Jabeur this year, who collected a 29th win as she overcame a 3-1 career head-to-head deficit against Gauff to earn
the victory. Gauff, at 18 years and 98 days, would have become the youngest American to reach a grass-court
singles final on tour since Andrea Jaeger was runnerup to Martina Navratilova at Wimbledon in 1983. It was not to be her day though, Jabeur breaking serve for the fourth time in the match to seal victory, encouraged by a large and vocal Tunisian following. Re f l e c t i n g o n t h e match, Jabeur said: “When you play Coco you have to have all the shots. She’s a talented player; she’s very tough to beat. You can see I’ve lost already three times
against her. “Sometimes she takes it, sometimes I take it, and it was a great match for both of us.” This is just the second WTA tournament where 27-year-old Jabeur has been a top seed. “I’ve tried to act like a number one seed on and off the court, and it’s a good pressure,” she added. India put pressure on the Argentina defence early on and secured a penalty corner in the third minute but Monika’s flick was saved by the opposition goalkeeper Belen Succi. A minute later, India surged ahead through a brilliant field goal by Lalremsiami. It was Deep Grace Ekka who created the chance with her defence splitting pass from outside the circle and Lalremsiami dodged her marker to get a brilliant touch which completely foxed the Argentine goalie. Stunned by the goal, the Argentines came out out attacking and secured two penalty corners in succession soon but the Indian defence stood firm. Seconds before the end of first quarter, Sharmila Devi’s effort from close
range from a Navneet Kaur pass was kept out by Succi. The Indians started on the same note in the second quarter but Argentina slowly and steadily got their acts together. Six minutes into the second quarter, Argentina earned two quick penalty corners and Agustina Gorzelany scored after her flick went in after getting of deflection of Sushila Chanu’s stick. The Argentines continued to press hard and won two more penalty corners in the third quarter but the Indians defended stoutly. Argentina secured their eighth penalty corner in the 45th minute and Gorzelany was bang on target to register her hat-trick and hand her side the lead again. The Indians, however, did not give up and fought tooth and nail. Gurjit again came to her side’s rescue with a brilliant penalty corner execution in the 51st minute to level the scores 3-3. Thereafter, both the sides tried hard to score the winner but the defensive units stood tall to take the match to shoot-out.

Canadian Grand Prix: Max Verstappen tops practice MONTREAL, JUN 18 (AGENCIES): Formula One revved up for the first Canadian Grand Prix since 2019 with Max Verstappen setting the practice pace for Red Bull and Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz having a close encounter with a groundhog on Friday. World championship leader Verstappen was fastest in both sessions at the island Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, setting a time of one minute 15.158 seconds in a sunny first and 1:14.127 in the second that ended just before a downpour. Sainz was second in the opening session, lapping 0.246 slower than the Dutch driver, but team mate Charles Leclerc pushed him down to third in the later hour. Double world champion Fernando Alonso was
third and fifth respectively for Renault-owned Alpine with Sebastian Vettel fourth in practice two. The groundhog momentarily diverted attention from ‘porpoising’, the bouncing effect causing pain for the drivers of some cars and notably Mercedes, when it crossed the track right in front of Sainz in the first practice. The Spaniard missed the lucky animal by a whisker. Ferrari are under close scrutiny after a double retirement in Azerbaijan last weekend dealt a big blow to their title challenge. Leclerc has taken pole position six times in eight races this season, including the last four, and will have a 10 place grid penalty on Sunday after having a number of power unit components replaced.
