flays NFR, state govt on railway land grab Parl witnesses Opposition DNSU SLAMS NFR FOR ‘HIJACK’ OF TRAINS FROM DIMAPUR, STATE GOVT FOR NEGLECT ruckus over GST, price rise NEW DELHI, JUL 19 (PTI): The Lok Sabha on Tuesday witnessed protests by opposition members over imposition of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) on certain packaged food items and on the issue of price rise, leading to the adjournment of proceedings till 2 pm. As soon as the House assembled at 11 am, opposition members belonging to the Congress, Trinamool Congress, DMK and others came to the well of the House carrying placards against the imposition of the GST on some new items. They raised slogans against the Modi government over the issue of price rise. The placards read “Gabbar Singh Strikes Again”. The opposition has been describing the GST as Gabbar Singh Tax, referring to the Bollywood blockbuster Sholay’s villain Gabbar Singh, who used to illegally collect taxes from the villagers in the film. Speaker Om Birla appealed to the opposition members to go to their seats and said carrying of placards inside the House is against rules. He said since the House is discussing farmers’ issue, the members should participate in it. “You carry rules book but don’t follow rules. The rules prohibit carrying placards here but you are carrying them. You raise farmers issue outside the House but not inside...,” Birla said. As the opposition members did not pay any heed to the Speaker’s appeal, he adjourned the House till 2 pm after about 15 minutes

of proceedings. Rajya Sabha proceedings in the pre-lunch session on Tuesday were adjourned without transacting any business as opposition parties, including the Congress, pressed for an immediate discussion on issues ranging from price rise to the Agnipath scheme. Members of the Congress, Left, and AAP insisted on a discussion on the issues, forcing adjournment of proceedings till 2 pm. Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu rejected notices given by Leader of the Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge and other leaders under rule 267 that calls for setting aside the business of the day to take up the issues listed by them. “I am not admitting them,” Naidu said soon after the listed papers were laid on the table. Opposition members insisted on a discussion on the issues. Naidu asked members to resume their places and ordered that nothing that they speak would go on record. Soon after, he adjourned the proceedings till 2 pm. The Congress on Tuesday held a protest over the
issue of price rise in Parliament complex here, a day after the Goods and Services Tax on packaged food items such as milk and curd came into force. Besides Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, some opposition MPs including Supriya Sule of the NCP, Ram Gopal Yadav of the Samajwadi party and Priyanka Chaturvedi of the Shiv Sena were present during the protest held in front of Mahatma Gandhi’s statue in Parliament complex. Raising slogans against the government, the Congress members demanded a rollback in prices of LPG. They also held banners and placards which read that “high inflation, continuous price rise badly affecting common people”. The Congress whip in Lok Sabha Manickam Tagore said opposition members led by his party wanted a discussion on price rise and GST but the government did not allow and the speaker adjourned the House till 2 pm. “We will raise the same when the House reconvenes. Why is the government afraid about holding the discussion,” he asked.
any action for removing the squatters but could only file FIRs and bring it to the notice of the authorities in Nagaland. In this regard, DNSU has demanded suspension of those officials involved in issuing random land pattas and disclosure of names of those involved. Further, DNSU reminded all involved, that railway land was not a “personal property” and no official had the authority to sell or issue land pattas for his/her personal interest. The union also supported the statement made by Dimapur MLAs (Moatoshi Longkumer and Azheto Zhimomi) on setting up of up an “inquiry committee” to verify if the allegations made by NFR were true and clarify the crux of the issue. Meanwhile, DNSU also questioned NFR as to why the matter was not
brought to public domain, if it (NFR) was unsatisfied with the kind of response from the State government. The union said neglect of such a pertinent issue by all stakeholders was questionable and demanded transparent explanations. DNSU reminded that railways serve as the lifeline for almost 90% of the student community studying outside Nagaland as most of them could not afford flight tickets. The signatories also disclosed that DNSU has been receiving multiple complaints that the sole train terminal at Dimapur has been shifted somewhere else, thereby causing immense trouble for the students. To make it worse, DNSU also regretted that even Nagaland Express supposed to serve Dimapur passengers, has been hijacked by NFR. (Cont’d on p-8)

DNSU vice president B. Mhajan Tsopoe and general secretary Sedelo T. Vadeo referred to several reports published in the Nagaland Post, which had been highlighting the factors affecting economic development of Dimapur since the past decade but that the State government appeared to be turning a blind eye. 53.806 hectares of railway land had been encroached, DNSU expressed dismay to learn about the “unsatisfactory assistance” from the State government both in demarcation of boundaries and removal of encroachers. In this regard, DNSU wanted to know from the state gover nment as to whether the claims were true and also why the State government was yet to respond to NFR in this regard or draw the matter to the attention of public? It may be recalled that the CPRO of NFR had admitted to Nagaland Post that though NFR had approached the State government several times for assistance, there was no “appreciable” assistance received either in demarcation of land or in removal of encroachments. CPRO also admitted that the NFR could not take

Immunise child against Japanese Encephalitis (contact nearest hospital for details) and in case someone exhibit JE symptoms, one could contact the nearest
hospital. For prevention of dengue, the department has advised getting rid of stagnant water from places where mosquito breed, such as old containers, flower pots, used tyres etc. Dengue symptoms include high fever, headache, joint and muscular pain, nausea, skin rash, fatigue. NSCN (I-M) counters claim of talks having Rio stumbling block for Naga solution: Dr. Ajoy Kumar been officially concluded on Oct 31, 2019 Cong to contest all 60 seats Correspondent
DIMAPUR, JUL 19 (NPN): Drawing attention to repeated mention by the Parliamentary Committee on the Naga political issue (PCoNPI) that talks had concluded on October 31, 2019, MIP of NSCN (I-M) countered that had the “Indo-Naga political talks” concluded on October 31, 2019 then a joint statement should have been the norm and not the “unilateral statement by RN Ravi”. Further, MIP said, Ravi may have concluded talks with NNPGs but that was not the story with NSCN (I-M). In a statement, MIP said had that been so, then even NSCN (IM) would have “taken the pleasure to share with the Naga people with much jubilation.”
KOHIMA, JUL 19 (NPN): All Indian Congress Committee (AICC) in-charge of Nagaland Dr Ajoy Kumar has repeated the charge made earlier by NPCC president K. Therie that chief minister Neiphiu Rio was the roadblock to Naga political solution Addressing a press conference here Tuesday , Dr. Kumar alleged that only person preventing implementation of the Naga accord was Rio and few of his ministers. He claimed that Nagas were “tortured and troubled for decades”owing to non-final(Cont’d on p-8) isation of Naga accord.
MIP said Ravi has used “strong words against NSCN talk team” to conclude talks by October 31,2019. MIP said Ravi’s words were “an ugly ultimatum day served to NSCN by GoI, with threats and war psychosis”. However, it said NSCN (I-M) was “unnerved and stood their ground and flatly refused to toe the line of Naga solution as drawn by Ravi.” According to MIP, the fact is that Ravi had miserably failed to work out the competency as per the principle of the Framework Agreement (FA) wherein the last para read: “the two sides agreed that within this framework agreement details and execution plan will be worked out and implemented shortly”.
(C) Dr. Ajoy Kumar with Congress leaders addressing the media. (NP)
He claimed that Congress supported implementation of the Naga accord, but regretted that resolution and implementation of the accord was hijacked so that the ruling dispensation could keep the State under “perpetual trouble, disarray and uncertainty”. Kumar said
that Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee president K Therie was the only opposition leader in Nagaland as no other party or leader raised any issue concerning Naga people. He warned that problems in Nagaland would continue and innocent people (Cont’d on p-8)
NPCC president K Therie declared that Congress would contest in all the 60 Assembly constituencies. Theire said there was no reason to surrender to the ruling party and let them win uncontested. “We will contest all 60 seats in the next Assembly elections,’” he added. On the other hand, AICC secretary Dr. Ajoy Kumar said that the AICC had prepared its strategy to face the 2023 Assembly election. He also remarked that for the past two decades, Rs 5 lakh crore must have been spent in the State, which failed to reach to the people. This, he alleged has been siphoned off. He alleged that the money the government had spent during the election was looted from the people. “They are giving the stolen money of yours,” he added.
