“This will help our mothers and sisters,” tweeted Sitharaman. The Finance Minister said the gas cylinder subsidy will have a “revenue implication of around Rs. 6,100 crore.” Defending the government amid steep price rise, the Minister said steps have been taken to cushion the poor. “We’ve taken a number of steps to help the poor and middle class. While stating that the government is governed by the law, Serto opined that: “If every administrator, bureaucrat, legislator studies law for three years, they will become better at their profession,” adding that law was dynamic, a continuous process and subject to change to feed the need of the society. While maintaining that law was the “science of life”; Justice Serto said “it gives a person the way to live, to differentiate between the right and wrongs, one’s duties towards others and society and other’s duties towards us.” (Cont’d on p-8)
‘21 central excise cut of Rs. 5 on Petrol & Rs. 10 on Diesel. It underlines PM Modi Ji’s unwavering commitment to concerns of citizens & showcases PM’s leadership in crisis, despite refusal by some states to reduce prices & extraordinary supply constraints,” tweeted Oil Minister Hardeep Puri. Presently, petrol is selling at over Rs. 100 in most parts of the country. The rates vary across states due to the value-added tax (VAT). India is heavily dependent on imports to meet its oil needs and the domestic petrol and diesel prices are linked to international rates. April saw India’s wholesale and consumer prices accelerate at their fastest in years, prompting the central bank to hike interest rates at an unscheduled policy meeting this month.

CPO backs PDMGDVA demand; asks govt to file affidavit
DIMAPUR, MAY 21 (NPN): Chakhesang Public Organisation (CPO), while extending support to Phek District Maytas-Gayatri Damaged Victim Association (PDMGDVA)’s demand to the State Government to file “self-appealed additional affidavit” in the High Court on or before May 25, fervently appealed to the government to do so in order to avert further agitation by the association.
In a press note, CPO vice president Vecito Dozo and general secretary Chepetso Koza said it had file a PIL in the court in December 2019 on behalf of victims, which otherwise was overdue, and since then the matter came before the court 22 times up to May 11, 2022. Unfortunately, CPO said the case had been dragged on for nearly 3 years, alleging delay tactics adopted both by state and the Central govern-
ment. Such has led to public protest on several occasions like-- total road blockade and cessation of the ongoing two-lane road construction in the district, causing inconvenience to the public and developmental activities. It was only after the intervention of both CPO and state government, the agitators were pacified and the work could progress till date. (Cont’d on p-8)
H&FW dept on status of medical college in Kohima D I M A P U R , M AY 2 1 (NPN): State Health & Family Welfare (H&FW) department has issued a statement through DIPR on the status of the medical college at Phriebagei-- Nagaland Institute of Medical Science and Research. It said that the Health ministry had approved the establishment of the medical college with an intake capacity of 100 MBBS seats at District Hospital Kohima (NHAK) at the cost of Rs. 189 crores under the Centrally Sponsored Scheme
for “establishment of new medical colleges by upgrading district/ referral hospitals” in 2014. As per the guideline of the scheme, one of the eligibility criteria was District hospitals/referral hospital with bed strength of 200 or more. Further, private hospitals were not eligible under the scheme, it added. Though the college will initially function from two plots-- administrative, academic, hostels, and staff quarters at Phriebagie, H&FW said that the teaching hospital will be at Naga
Authority Hospital Kohima (NHAK), which was permissible under the regulations of National Medical Commission (NMC). However, due to space constraints and instability of land at NHAK campus, the department said it was difficult to develop the hospital to 500 bedded teaching hospital, which must be in place by 3rd Inspection as per NMC regulations. Therefore, it said a dedicated 500 bedded teaching hospital will be established at Phriebagie, and the construction of a 150
bedded hospital at Phriebagie through State Resources was nearing completion, even as the department has approached Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) for setting up a 400 bedded teaching hospital. Though Centre had approved setting up of medical college at Kohima in 2014, acquisition of land was completed only in February 2018, master plan approved in October 2018 and the construction works commenced from 2019.
