prevalence of extortion at various levels and institutions of society and how it was affecting the law and order. Tetseo stated that the police force equally relied on the public, adding that without the public, the police force could not win any case. Although the police receive numerous complaints on
extortion, theft, etc., he said that since there were no complainants, the cases were irrelevant or non-existent. In this regard, CP stressed on the importance of ‘community policing’ and role of public participation in aiding the police force in the fight against anti-social elements.
He, however, lamented that Nagaland lacked a common platform for all Nagas to sit together and discuss issues related to law and order. Stating that tribal organisations and bodies solely focused on their own communities, Tetseo stressed the need for a common platform for the greater good of all Nagas. Giving a detailed presentation on “Introduction on Community Policing”, Dr. Tiamenla Phom highlighted various legal provisions regarding community policing and discussed various sections under CrPC 1974, Police Act 1861.
