CM, UDA govt not ready for Naga political solution: NPCC
D I M A P U R , M AY 2 4 (NPN): Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) has accused United Democratic Alliance (UDA) government led by chief minister Neiphiu Rio of not being ready for a solution yet to the Naga political issue. In a statement, NPCC president K.Therie accused the UDA government and the chief minister of never having asked the Central government to go ahead with the settlement. According to the NPCC chief, the State government realises that the people of Nagaland wanted to implement the “Agreed Position” signed by the Centre with Working Committee of Naga National Political Groups, as they know that as per the Framework Agreement (FA) sovereignty and integration (Cont’d on p-8) were ruled out . Therefore,
CTAN sets deadline to terminate ‘illegal appointees’ by May 31 DIMAPUR, MAY 24 (NPN): In a final reminder to the state government, the Combined Technical Association of Nagaland (CTAN) demanded immediate termination of five alleged illegal appointments made under office of the Chief Conservator of Forests and Head of Forest Force, on or before May 31. CTAN, through its media cell, further reminded the department to let the NPSC requisition the posts occupied by the illegal appointees (5 Forester-1) and the 10 existing vacancies on or before May 31 2022. It said Forester-1 having a Grade Pay 2800, clearly falls under the purview of NPSC. Failing to fulfil the demands, CTAN along with its units have warned to take its own course of action democratically.
he said for Nagaland, talks had concluded. In view of this, Therie said what Dr SC Jamir had stated should have been stated by Rio, if he was for Nagas of Nagaland. He noted that even Manipur chief minister had in the presence of NPF minister, who supported BJP-led government in Manipur, hadstated that nothing could be given. He reminded that past Manipur chief ministershad also made it clear that not an inch of land would be parted with. “Manipur peoples’ Govt surely deserves respect in democracy and since NPF is also a part of Manipur peoples Govt, it reflects NSCN(IM) too,” Therie stated. He alleged that Rio, after being elected leader of the House and serving as chief minister for almost 20 years, was not worried
about the people of Nagaland for money and lacked courage and wisdom to bring settlement. Therie further alleged that Rio could not reason with the Centre, nor with NSCN(I-M) leaders to solve the problem, adding that he was under pressure as BJP was doing everything to humiliate him. The NPCC president alleged Rio would do everything possible to save his alliance with BJP at the cost of 48 MLAs and the Christian population of Nagaland, and even abandon his friends to save himself. He asserted that the FA would have no impact on Nagaland as per its last paragraph “we have rejected Pan Naga Hoho”. He said NSCN(I-M) had failed 25 years in the same class, which was purely an intellectual failure. (Cont’d on p-8)

tee meeting deliberated at length on the ongoing peace process vis-à-vis the possible outcome of the present political talk between the Government of India and NSCN (I-M) and Working Committee of the NNPGs. The working committee expressed the opinion of the party that any solution that was to be arrived
at out of the ongoing political negotiation needed to be seriously examined before making a final shape. The party noted that past Agreements and Accords have not produced the desired result, which ultimately led to more divisions amongst the Nagas rather than bringing the Nagas together. Meanwhile, the meeting also resolved to revamp and re-strengthen the party at all levels. It was resolved to invite all well-wishers of NPF to come forward and associate with the party activities in order to take the Naga people forward “as Nagas are going through a very critical phase of the Political movement.”

constructing roads for his personal commute (around 5-10km stretch) into a remote area within Akhen village. He further claimed that the contractor set up his own sawmill and had been running a logging business for the past 10 years or so. In this regard, Joel said the party has approached principal chief conservator of forest (PCCF) and asked the Forest department to take necessary actions. However, Joel said that the department has failed to take any actions till date. K O H I M A , M AY 2 4 (NPN): With the clarion call for clean election and objective to sensitize the citizens of Nagaland on clean and honest politics, Nagaland Baptist Church Council
(NBCC) is all set to celebrate 150 years of Christianity in Nagaland under the theme ‘His story’. As part of the celebrations, NBCC will be organizing various programmes and activities including a two-day bike rally on ‘clean
election movement’ (May 31 and June 1). The sesquicentennial (150 years) will be held on the theme “His Story” and the celebrations will culminate on November 19-20 at Kohima and all churches across the State. Ta l k i n g t o m e d i a persons here on Tuesday, NBCC general secretary Rev Dr Zelhou Keyho, while narrating the history of Christianity in Nagaland, said delegates from overseas and other States would participate, even as all pastors had been invited to attend the programme to show “oneness”. He said 1,708 churches under NBCC would join the celebrations to commemorate 150 years of Christi-
anity in the State, adding that several activities would be taken up as part of the programme, including the bike rally. Dwelling on politics and church’s role, Keyho asserted that the movement was for everyone. He revealed that there were success stories from the clean election movement though these did not grab newspaper headlines. He explained that the bike rally was also being organised to educate the people on clean election movement, which started in 1973 but picked up only in 2003, 2008 and 2013, and thus not a new story among the Nagas. He also shared the strategies to reach out
to the masses for clean election campaign like capacity building, networking, mobilising, preaching, educating and reflecting, hoping that the people would come together and fight for a common goal. Clean election movement convener Dr Villo Naleo, who too addressed the media, mentioned that the main objective for the initiative was to focus on bringing a positive change in the society, while adhering to the democratic principles of the State. On his part, NBCC youth secretary N Suhuto Chishi said the bike rally comprising 150 bikers would cover the entire State during the two days.
to students: NSF to schools
D I M A P U R , M AY 2 4 (NPN): Taking note of some schools providing notes in soft copies to students despite resumption of physical classes, the Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) has appealed to the school managements to ensure students were provided with notes in hard copies. NSF president Kegwayhun Tep and education secretary Medovi Rhi said this has become a primary reason for the students to take the excuse of spending more time on their mobile phones or other electronic devices. Stating that this was (Cont’d on p-8) undesirable for the overall
growth of students, NSF recalled that the shift to online mode of education was only necessitated by the nationwide lockdown to combat the spread of the deadly Coronavirus. However, with the resumption of normal physical classes now, NSF appealed to the managements and teaching faculty of various schools to ensure that the hard copies of notes and not soft copies were provided to the students. This was, they explained, was to mitigate the ill-effects of the use of mobile phones and other electronic devices on the students. (Cont’d on p-8)

the contractors failed to respond and chose to remain “mute and deaf.” In the ultimatum, the students’ union warned that failure on the part of the firm and contractor would compel union comprising to initiate its own course of legal action. Lamenting that work was progressing at a snail’s pace, the union said the work would be hampered with the onset of monsoon season, which would worsen road condition and cause inconvenience to the
common public. LMRSU claimed that the contractor on March 24, 2022 verbally assured the union that the work would start within 15 days and completed in 45 working days using foreign technology. However, Lotha Middle Range Students’ Union said that no progress has been made till date. LMRSU has also appealed to the responsible department to intervene and initiate necessary action on the ongoing road construction at the earliest.
TOKYO, MAY 24 (PTI): In a clear message to an aggressive China, the leaders of the Quad grouping on Tuesday voiced their firm opposition to “any provocative or unilateral attempt” to change the status quo and called for peaceful settlement of disputes without resorting to threat or use of force.
