The officers tabled their reports at a review meeting with principal commissioner home, Abhijit Sinha, held in the secretariat conference hall on August Wednesday. The officers expressed the view that the main challenge in achieving vaccinations was due to vaccine hesitancy in the minds of the people. The officers also observed that awareness campaign on the COVID vaccines needed to be boosted especially in the rural areas. Further, they suggested that there was a need to sensitize community leaders, NGOs, GBs and Faith-based or-

CCCPO president Neikhriehu Kense and general secretary Khriebulie Peseyie in a release said the organisation, comprising 17 villages under Chümoukedima, observed that many national groups had been demanding various taxes from villages and from business establishments under its jurisdiction and had been causing undue harassment to village leaders. ganizations at the earliest. They also suggested that misinformation and fake news needed to be addressed rationally and logically. The senior officers also told the government that write ups or videos in local dialects countering the viral fake news should be prepared and disseminated to the people. Further, at the meeting, the officers gave a brief update on the situation of their assigned districts and actions suggested to improve the overall management of Covid-19 throughout the State. Sensing the need to be prepared for any eventuality in the event of a third wave hitting the state, the state

government has decided to continue putting stress on COVID testing, vaccination coverage and strengthening of healthcare infrastructure in the districts. To intensively review the steps being taken to manage the pandemic at the district level, the government had assigned a senior administrative officer along with a senior officer from the health department to each district. Each team of officers visited their assigned districts and interacted with officials of district task force, CSOs and others to review and guide them in refining /improving Covid-19 management.

KOHIMA, AUG 25 (NPN): Amidst the recent move to form an apex tribal organisation of Nagas of Nagaland, Eastern Nagaland People’s Organisation (ENPO) is likely to abstain from being a part of the exercise. Considering the emergent need for an apex Naga organisation, other major Naga tribes are all set to sit and work out the matter soon. It was learnt that some units under ENPO have already expressed their decision to remain under ENPO and not to be a part of the proposed apex Naga organisation. However, it has been informed that in all major common issues regarding Naga political issues, ENPO will be working together with rest of the tribal hohos. Representatives from the current 14 tribes hoho stated that as of now they were together, though the

nomenclature could be changed with the proposed new arrangement. They indicated that the new arrangement could be without the Karbis, Garos and Kukis. They also expressed doubt on ENPO’s participation as some tribal units under it had already expressed during the meeting with 14 tribes hoho to remain with ENPO. In this regard, a meeting of the tribal hohos would be convened after the Ao Senden conference scheduled during the first week of September. It may be recalled that planning & coordination, parliamentary affairs and land revenue minister, Neiba Kronu informed media persons after the consultative meeting held on Aug 18 that the house during deliberations, felt the need to have an apex hoho comprising all tribes of Nagaland, since the Naga Hoho which was once the apex body today

no longer has the mandate of Naga tribes of Nagaland. Kronu further added that an apex tribal hoho of tribes within Nagaland was a necessity just as Naga tribes of Manipur have their United Naga Council. Similarly, Kronu said Naga tribes of Arunachal Pradesh and Assam could also work out on how to go about it in their respective states. ENPO CEC meeting on Aug 31: Meanwhile, ENPO has convened a Central Executive Council (CEC) meeting at its headquarters, Tuensang on August 31. ENPO general secretary Manlang Phom in a release has asked all CEC members of the respective tribes, State Demand Talk Team members, advisors, Eastern Nagaland Legislators’ Union, frontal organisations and sub-units to attend the meet as informed earlier without fail.

HMAD appeals NSCN Rainfall likely to State to focus on agri sector to eradicate poverty by 2030 (I-M) to revoke quit notice continue in NE D I M A P U R , AU G 2 5 (NPN): Hardware Merchants’ Association Dimapur (HMAD) has appeal to the NSCN (I-M) to revoke quit notice served on a hardware store that was allegedly found selling hardware items with tempered price tags. HMAD through its media cell termed as “very unfortunate” that one of its members—M/s. Mahrishi Hardware—involved in the case. It also appreciated the NSCN (I-M) special investigation team for its “tireless effort to uproot corruption and malpractices in Dimapur.” HMAD, however, maintained that detection of such crime should be reported to the district administration and offenders be dealt with appropriate action. Further, the association pointed out that rampant taxations and donations were causing misery to business fraternity of

Dimapur. With so many taxes and donations coupled with pandemic induced lockdown, the association said it had become almost impossible to operate business and make a little profit for sustainability of the trader, adding that such circumstances could have led the concerned trader to resort to such malpractice. Asser ting that the offender(s) should be left unpunished for the crime(s) committed, the HMAD has, however, said that the responsible authorities must also ponder upon as to what could have led the offender to take such a step for survival of the business. In the light of the above, the association has “fervently” appealed to the NSCN (I-M) to “revoke its order of issuing quit notice to the proprietor of M/s. Mahrishi Hardware as such an action does not deem fit for the offence committed.”

NPF legislature decided on all-party govt: Dr. Shürho D I M A P U R , AU G 2 5 (NPN): Naga People’s Front (NPF) president Dr. Shürhozelie Liezietsu has distanced the party organisation from the current exercise to form an all-party government, adding that the decision was made by NPF legislators while the party organisation only advised its MLAs wherever the need arose. Dr. Shürhozelie stated this while reacting to a report on August 23 about wide speculations that NPF was willing to revive the DAN alliance with BJP in order to replace NDPP as ruling coalition. Dr. Shürhozelie said this while reacting to a news item published on August

23, of wide speculations that NPF was willing to revive DAN alliance with BJP to replace the NDPP in the state. Further, Dr. Shürhozelie clarified that the “coming together” of MLAs did not mean “coming together of political parties” as political parties would continue to remain as they were. According to him(a) NPF legislators will join “ this new experiment for political reason only” which is issue-based and (b) the NPF legislators will not ask or accept anything from the government. Dr. Shürhozelie said in view of NPF not seeking any post in the government, the exercise will “in no way

disturb the smooth sailing of the present government.” He said as NPF being the main regional political party representing the people of Nagaland, “we have been trying to keep good relation with everyone” and thus harbour no “ill-will against any political party”. He reiterated “NPF belongs to the people, we are only having the opportunity to look after them.” Dr. Shürhozelie maintained that NPF never said it wanted to revive alliance with BJP. Understanding the best Naga tradition of what was considered shame, he said his party had never said anything as alleged.

The document proposed purposeful engagement of various stakeholders such as universities, financial institutions, farmer organisations and community-based entities to achieve the target. “It suggested that financial sources, such as corporate social responsibility (CSR) funds, externally aided projects, publicprivate partnership initiatives, negotiated loans from funding agencies should be explored in addition to regular missions and programmes launched by the government,” the official said. the NFHRCC, which it said had been working fervently for about a decade since the year 2013. WYH: Western Yimkhiung Hoho (WYH) extended its “full support” to the representation submitted to the state government by NFHRCC.
