NSCN (I-M) rebuts SCAN charge on encroaching Ntangki
DIMAPUR, OCT 25 (NPN):
NSCN (I-M) has refuted “the misleading statement” made by Senior Citizen Association of Nagaland (SCAN) that it has encroached Ntangki National Park and put it under its full control.
NSCN (I-M) reiterated that matters of national inter est cannot be allowed to escape public scrutiny if there is suspi cion that something has gone wrong. NSCN(I-M) through its MIP said for the same reason, “no bewildering allegations will stand the test of time”, when the factual story unfolds.
Given the magnitude of the issue, NSNC (I-M) said SCAN should have acted in a
more responsible manner and not make such highly inflam matory allegations.
NSCN(I-M) said SCAN should have been chosen a path that reflected wisdom and tem perament on the issue instead of crying foul against it that was bereft of valid justification.
On the contrary, it said, had it not been the countermeasures taken by it, the na tional park could have been another story today.
Seeking to put the record straight, NSCN (I-M), said Ntangki National Park origi nally belonged to Old Bisumpui village with well-defined bound aries. It also pointed out that the critical need to protect Ntangki
forest and wildlife was taken up at NSCN National Assembly, Gilgal Camp, in 1996 where it was resolved to protect and preserve the forest as wildlife reserved forest. Accordingly, no newly set-up village was allowed to exist inside the national park.
NSCN(I-M) said that “during the course of Indo-Na ga political talks”, the national park was never a topic of discus sion since it had nothing to do with Naga political settlement. It said whether or not there was solution, the park would remain protected and preserved as Naga national property.
It also cited the recent interview of Ntangki Nation al Park director T Aochuba,
Absence of Oppn responsible for corruption: NCP
cause there was “no strong opposition to bring them to accountability”. He said Nagas were “all confused in party politics with no clear vision” and that “we are all a part of this confusion, as we are all a part of the society.”
where there has been no indica tion that it there has been any encroachment on the national park.
Significantly, it said He bron was outside the boundar ies of Ntangki National Park.
NSCN (I-M) also clari fied that Hebron originally belonged to Old Jalukie village, while Jalukiekam village was established with the permission of Old Jalukie village, and a recognised village with spe cific boundaries. It said Hebron camp was very much within the Jalukiekam village jurisdiction and outside the boundary of Ntangki National Park and not as “recklessly claimed by SCAN”.
tary Brandon Lewis, Work and Pensions Secretary Chloe Smith and Develop ment minister Vicky Ford, sources said.
Dominic Raab, who was the deputy PM for for mer Prime Minister Boris Johnson, will also hold the Secretary of State for Justice portfolio.
In his first address at the doorstep of 10 Downing Street in London, the new Prime Minister said that he takes over at a time when the UK is facing a “profound economic crisis” as it deals with the aftermath of CO VID and the Russia-Ukraine
conflict and asserted that he is “not daunted” by the high office he has accepted and hopes to live up to its demands.
“Some mistakes were made; not borne of ill-will or bad intentions but mis takes nonetheless and I have been elected as leader of my party and your Prime Minis ter in part to fix them,” said Sunak, the second prime minister in as many months and the third this year.
“I will unite our coun try not with words but with action. I will work day in and day out to deliver for you,” he said.

CTAN pointed out that there was an existing Engineer

North East lags in job creation: Official
NEW DELHI, OCT 25 ( PTI): Despite the central government more than doubling budgetary sup port in the last eight years, the northeast region has lagged behind in economic output and job creation, an NEC official said here on Tuesday. Lakhs of youth from the region are going to other parts of the coun try for jobs, which implies that “something is amiss in terms of economic devel opment”, North Eastern Council Secretary K Moses Chalai said.
In 2013-14, the total 10 per cent GBS (gross bud getary support) was around Rs 34,000 crore. This fi nancial year, it has reached Rs 76,000 crore. “Despite this, the production and distribution of goods and services are not happening enough and there are not enough jobs, Chalai said, while speaking at a func tion at the North Eastern Hill University here.
Fifty-five central min istries and departments are mandated to spend at least 10 per cent of their gross budgetary support (GBS) for the central sec tor and centrally sponsored schemes in the northeastern region to accelerate the pace of development. Cha lai, who has recently been appointed as chairman of the inter-ministerial com mittee for development of border areas in the region, said that the north-east is today surrounded by the world’s fastest develop ing economies, including Bangladesh.
It is the time for the north-east to look at itself and come up with strategies
to match with the growth,” he said. The NE’s share of the trade between Ban gladesh and India is only about two per cent, the NEC secretary said.
We have been penal ised because of the parti tion and this has shocked us in terms of disruption of the connectivity, he said. Noting that successive cen tral governments have al ways been supportive of the northeastern states, Chalai said that the current dispensation led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has shown “even more af fection” as the PM and the central ministers’ visits to the region have “increased tremendously”.
He also said the interministerial committee will soon hold a meeting, and joint secretaries of all min istries home affairs, finance, commerce, agriculture, bor der area development and other related departments will attend it.
Arunachal Students bodies call for bandh call on Nov 2
ITANAGAR, OCT 25 (AGENCIES): Arunachal Student unions All Arunachal Pradesh Stu dents’ Union (AAPSU) and All Nyishi Students’ Union (ANSU) have called a 12hour bandh in Arunachal Pradesh on November 2 over the Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC) paper leak case de spite government’s decision to replace and suspend offi cials of APPSC along with a dozen of arrests made with regards to the case, reports India Today NE.
AAPSU and ANSU have also maintained that unless all incumbent mem bers and remaining officials of APPSC are removed, the Unions won’t roll back their bandh call. The Unions have also demanded that the report of the SIC investiga tion and the three member enquiry committee should be made public. In a major development, the APPSC chairman, Nipo Nabam, on October 14 resigned amid the ongoing investigation into the paper leak case. The chairman sent his
resignation letter to the Gov ernor of Arunachal Pradesh B D Mishra, wherein, he stated, ‘’ In the matter of the unpleasant APPSC fiasco perpetrated by an officer of the Arunachal Public Service Commission on the infamous paper leakage of the Written Examination (Mains) for the post of As sistant Engineer (Civil) of 27 & 28 August 2022, I being the head of the Commission feel it prudent and rationale to put in my papers on the moral ground’’.
‘’Hence, my resignation from the post of the Chair man, Arunachal Pradesh Public Service (APPSC) may be accepted forthwith and deemed demitted office with immediate effect,’’ he added. In an official state ment, Nabam also men tioned that the state is facing unpleasant situations out of the infamous paper leakage of the Written Examina tion (Mains) for the cost of Assistant Engineer (Civil) conducted by the Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Com mission (APPSC) on 29 and 28 August 2022.
‘Miya’ museum in PMAY allotted house sealed in Assam
GOALPARA, OCT 25 (PTI): The ‘Miya Museum’, set up in a house allotted under PMAY, in Assam’s Goalpara district was sealed and its owner was taken into custody on Tuesday a district official said.
The museum was opened to the public on Sunday. The president of the Mia Assam Miya Pari shad, Mohor Ali set up the museum on the premises of the house allotted to him under the Prime Minister’s Awas Yojana. A team of government officers sealed the museum at Dapkabhita under Lakhiur police station and put up a notice that it has been done on the orders of the deputy commissioner.
The opening of the Museum in a house allot ted under the Prime Min ister’s Awas Yojana led to a controversy with senior BJP leaders demanding its immediate closure.
BJP Minority Morcha member Abdur Rahim Gi bran had filed a complaint against the setting up of the museum in the house.
Some agricultural implements and fishing equipment, hand towels and checked ‘lungis’ (sa rongs worn by men) are on display as Ali claimed that these are the identity of the ‘Miya’ community.
In Assam, the word ‘Miya’ refers to Bengalispeaking migrants whose origin can be traced to Ban gladesh. Ali along with his two minor sons sat on a dharna outside the house demanding the immediate reopening of the museum.
“We are displaying ob jects with which the com munity identifies itself so that people from other com munities can realise that the Miyas are not any different from them”, Ali said.
The police later took
him into custody. Earlier in the day, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that such activities by some members of the Miya com munity posed a threat to the “Assamese identity”.
“How can they (Miya community) claim that the plough is their identity? It has been used by all farm ers in the state for ages. It is only the lungi that they can claim as their own,” Sarma said at the sidelines of a programme.
Those who have set up the museum will have to answer to an expert commit tee on what basis the claims were made, he added.
The setting up of a Miya Museum was first pro posed by former Congress MLA Sherman Ali Ahmed in 2020. He had written to the director of museums urging for its establishment at the Srimanta Sankardeva Kalakshetra to showcase the culture and heritage of Bengali-speaking Muslims living in the riverine areas of the state. Sarma had rejected Ahmed’s proposal.

The chief minister on Tuesday paid a visit to a grape winery set up by Champhai Grape Grow ers’ Society (CGGS) at Tlangsam village in Cham

During an interac tion with leaders of the grape growers’ society, Zoramthanga said that grape wines are being manu factured legally following the recent notification of grape wine rules by the government after it was ap proved by several political parties in the state.
He said that the gov ernment is contemplating fixing the price of grape wine.
Zoramthanga said that the Mizo National Front (MNF) government has
been taking measures for the welfare of grape growers since its previous term and had waived a loan amount ing to over Rs. 83 lakh owed by CGGS in November 2020.
Apart from grapes, Champhai district has a great potential for the pro duction of other fruits and crops because of its favour able climate, he said.

IMPHAL, OCT 25 ( AGENCIES): Pheiroijam
Nando Luwang, president of All Manipur United Clubs’ Organisation (AMUCO) on October 25 stated that apart from residing in the state of Manipur, many nonlocals have adopted Meitei surnames, which is a major concern that requires quick consideration by all of the State’s CSOs, reports India Today NE. He said this while he was addressing the All Manipur Women’s Voluntary Association’s (AMAWOVA) 33rd founda tion day, which was held at the Maharaja Chandrakirti
Auditorium in the Palace Compound. Nando also claimed that the family or group of families that permit non-Manipuri persons to take their surnames have committed a serious offense against Manipuri society. When asked if nonlocals who adopt a local surname can share common ancestors with the family or clan whose surname they have adopted, or if they can have the same attachment to Manipur as locals, the AMUCO president stated that all of these issues re quire thorough investigation and immediate intervention.
At least 700 shops gutted as fire ravages Arunachal’s oldest market
ITANAGAR, OCT 25
(PTI): Around 700 shops were reduced to ashes in a massive fire that broke out at Naharlagun Daily Market near Itanagar on Tuesday morning, police said.
There was no casualty in the fire that was first spot ted around 4 am, they said.
IMPHAL, OCT 24 (IANS): The Congress on Monday filed a disqualification peti tion in Manipur Assembly Speaker’s tribunal against five Janata Dal-United MLAs, who joined the rul ing BJP last month.
Manipur state Con gress Vice-President Haresh war Goshwami, accompa nied by lawyer Ningom
bam Bupenda Meitei, filed disqualification petitions against the five MLAs.
Manipur Assembly Secretary K. Meghajit Singh earlier said Speaker Thok chom Satyabrata Singh has accepted the merger of the five JD-U MLAs with the BJP legislature party under the 10th Schedule of the Constitution.
Chief Minister N.Biren Singh and BJP’s President J.P. Nadda earlier felicitated the 5 JD-U MLAs in Imphal and New Delhi, respectively.
In the February-March assembly election, the JD-U had fielded 38 candidates against the BJP and won six seats in the 60-memberassembly. However, after the announcement of the results, the MLAs extended their support to the BJP government headed by Biren Singh.
The market, the oldest in the state, is situated near the fire station and Nahar lagun police station, around 14 km from Arunachal Pradesh’s capital Itanagar.
The fire is suspected to be caused by firecrackers or lamps lit for Diwali celebra tions, police said.
Firefighters swung into action immediately but as the shops were made of bamboo and timber with dry items stored in abundance in the market, the blaze spread fast, they claimed.
Panicked shopkeepers
struggled to save anything they could as exploding LPG cylinders further added fuel to the fire.

BOKAJAN, OCT 25 (AGENCIES): The As sam Police seized 13,500 kg of Burmese black pep per worth Rs 1 crore from a truck at Khatkhati check gate in Karbi Anglong dis trict bordering Nagaland on Sunday night.
The truck bearing reg istration number RJ 19GC 3301 was intercepted by a police team led by Khat khati OC SI Raju Dowarah.
“The consignment was brought from Dima pur and was supposed to be delivered at Byrnihat in Meghalaya from where it would be further smuggled to North India,” said a senior police officer.
“During search, 300 bags containing suspected Burmese Black Pepper weighing 13,500 kg were recovered concealed under 70 rice bags of 50 kg each inside the truck.” the of ficial said.
The driver identified as Durgesh Kumar of Ra
jasthan could not produce any valid documents for carrying the consignment of Black Pepper in the truck
and has been taken into custody by police.
Based on the state ment of the driver, the
police picked up two other co-accused identified as Nirmaljeet Singh alias Pin tu from Dimapur in Naga land and Bubul Das alias Bishal from Sarupathar in Golaghat district.
Pintu Singh, although a permanent resident of Ra jasthan is currently settled in Dimapur and was earlier involved in the smuggling of Arunachal sale liquor into Nagaland via Khat khati in Assam. Bubul Das was also earlier involved in the smuggling of Bur mese Teak through Assam from Nagaland. Police also seized Rs 3.5 lakh in cash from Bubul Das.
As follow-up action, a separate police team con ducted a raid at a godown in Byrnihat in Meghalaya and recovered another 100 of bags of Black Pepper and 50 bags of Areca Nut. None has so far been ar rested from Meghalaya in this connection.
On May 27, this year,
the Central Arecanut and Cocoa Marketing and Processing Cooperative (CAMPCO) Ltd (Manga luru) has urged the Min istry of External Affairs to restrict the movement of Arecanut and Pepper at Integrated Check Post (ICP) at Moreh in Manipur along the India-Myanmar border.
In a letter, the coop erative society said Indian pepper production meets the domestic requirements. In such a situation, the necessity for importing pepper does not arise at all.
“In the light of these facts, we request your good offices to restrict the movement of Arecanut and Pepper through the gates of Manipur on the India-Myanmar border and, accordingly, direct the authorities concerned to curb these commodities from entering the domestic market,” the cooperative society said in the letter.
under control, police said.
The exact damage caused by the fire is being assessed, but it is estimated to be in crores of rupees, they said.
Superintendent of Po lice (Capital) Jimmy Chi
ram said the exact cause of the fire would be known after the completion of the investigation by the fire department.
Shopkeepers alleged that after spotting the blaze they rushed to the adjacent fire station but no person nel could be found. Fur ther, when the fire services personnel arrived, the fire engines did not have water.
To refill the engines, the personnel had to travel a long distance, and they could come back with water only around 5 am, by which most of the market was al ready gutted, the shopkeep ers alleged.
“The police also did not act. All of them should be terminated from service for failure to perform their duties,” Naharlagun Bazar Welfare Committee presi dent Kipa Nai said.
After speaking to the shopkeepers, Arunachal Chamber of Commerce and Industries (ACC&I) president Tarh Nachung demanded that all fire per sonnel on duty be suspended for negligence.
It was the failure of the government that it did not set up the minimum infrastructure required for fire fighting -- such as water filling points, which should immediately be made avail able at different locations in the Capital Complex, he said.
“If this is the situation in the heart of the capital, what would be the situation in the districts,” he ques tioned.
Itanagar MLA Techi Kaso told reporters that the market would be rebuilt by the state government in cooperation with ACC&I.

BJP, opposition spar over Sunak’s elevation
NEW DELHI, OCT 25
(PTI): With opposition leaders using the elevation of Rishi Sunak as Britain’s next prime minister to la ment alleged majoritari anism and divisiveness in India, the BJP on Tuesday cited APJ Abdul Kalam’s and Manmohan Singh’s rise as the country’s president and prime minister to hit out at them.
The BJP also rejected any parallel between its leaders’ opposition to prime ministership for Sonia Gan dhi, who is of Italian origin, after the Congress won the Lok Sabha poll in 2004 and the Britain’s ruling party choosing Indian-origin Su nak as its leader, paving the way for him to become the country’s next PM.
“Can’t differentiate be tween Italy-born Sonia (who refused to take Indian citi zenship for several decades after marriage with Rajiv) and UK-born Rishi with Indian ancestry,” BJP’s for eign affairs department head Vijay Chauthaiwale said
responding to a Twitter user.
Reactions from BJP leaders came after leaders from various opposition par ties, including the Congress, appeared to take a swipe at the BJP while lauding the rise of Sunak.
PDP president and for mer Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Mehbooba Mufti said it was a proud moment that Indian-origin Sunak was elected as the UK’s prime minister but it should also serve as a reminder that Britain has

Partial solar eclipse seen in parts of India
NEW DELHI, OCT 25 (PTI): Astronomy enthu siasts turned their gaze to wards the sun as the moon started to cover the solar disc as a partial solar eclipse began on Tuesday.
The partial solar eclipse is being observed in sev eral parts of the country with Srinagar witnessing the maximum obscuration of the solar disc at 55 per cent.
UK have embraced the nonmajority citizens of their countries and elected them to high office in govern ment,” Chidambaram said on Twitter.
“I think there is a les son to be learned by India and the parties that practise majoritarianism,” he also said.
Tharoor said, “If this does happen, I think all of us will have to acknowledge that the Brits have done something very rare in the world, to place a member of a visible minority in the most powerful office. As we Indians celebrate the ascent of @RishiSunak, let’s honestly ask: can it happen here.” Former law minister and BJP leader Ravi Shan kar Prasad hit out at them.
Taking a swipe at Me hbooba, he asked her to answer if she will accept a minority as Jammu and Kashmir’s chief minister.
“Some leaders have become hyper active against majoritarianism after elec tion of Rishi Sunak as PM
of UK. Gently reminding them about the extraordi nary Presidency of APJ Abdul Kalam, Manmohan Singh as PM for 10 years. A distinguished tribal leader Droupadi Murmu is now our President,” he said.
Prasad said a compe tent leader of Indian origin Sunak becoming the UK’s prime minister needs to be complimented by them all on this extraordinary suc cess.
“It is tragic that some Indian politicians are un fortunately trying to make a political brownie point on this occasion,” he said.
BJP’s IT department head Amit Malviya noted that India has had three Muslim and one Sikh presi dent besides a Sikh prime minister for 10 years and minorities in top judicial po sitions and the armed forces.
“It need not learn about diversity and inclusiv ity from any other country. But Mehbooba must walk the talk and back a Hindu for J&K’s CM,” he said.
Cong rebuffs remarks of Chidambaram, Tharoor on Rishi Sunak elevation
NEW DELHI, OCT 25 (PTI): The Congress on Tuesday said India does not need to draw lessons from any other country as many minorities have become the president and chief minister in the past, a remark seen as a rebuff to party leaders P Chidambaram and Shashi Tharoor who hoped India will follow Rishi Sunak’s example of electing a per son from minorities to the top post.
AICC general secre tary communications Jai ram Ramesh said respecting diversity has been India’s hallmark for many years and cited the examples of Zakir Hussain, Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed and A P J Abdul Kalam who held the top constitutional position in the country for many years.
After Indian-origin Su nak was picked as the Unit ed Kingdom’s next prime minister, Chidambaram and Tharoor had said that India should draw lessons
from the UK and hoped one day this practice would be adopted in the country.
“In our country, Dr Zakir Hussain first became the President in 1967, then Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed became the President and Dr Abdul Kalam and if I keep giving you examples, Barkatullah Khan became chief minister and A R An tulay also became the chief minister,” he told reporters.
Asked about the Con gress leaders’ remarks, Ra mesh said, “You should ask them. I am only talking about Bharat Jodo Yatra and I would not speak about what other leaders have said. You should ask them on what they have said, I will not speak on any other leader’s remarks.”
“The Congress is a democratic party,” the Con gress leader said, adding the Bharat Jodo Yatra is blowing the trumpet of de mocracy while the Bharatiya Janata Party is blowing guns
of autocracy.
“Those who get a man date will become prime minister. Democratically, if someone is elected, we don’t have a problem. England’s party has made him the prime minister, we welcome it,” said Ramesh.
He said India has set an example across the world on celebrating diversity and respecting them.
“But, in the last eight years what we have seen, I don’t think we need to draw lessons from somewhere else. Our society is unity in diversity and we have seen for many years that we respect diversity and give them equal rights and we don’t need to seek lessons from any other country. Our society will be strengthened through diversity,” he noted.
The Congress general secretary said if we sup press diversity and try to bring uniformity, we will not be able to strengthen our society.
Letter, sweets and silver coin - Rahul’s Diwali gift to BJY participants
NEW DELHI, OCT 25 (PTI): Congress leader Ra hul Gandhi wished Diwali to all Bharat Yatris, drivers and labourers working in the party’s Bharat Jodo Yatra (BJY) camp, offered them silver coins and sweets, and hoped their faith in India’s true values will defeat hate.
In his letter to them, he said their faith in India’s true values will also illuminate the path forward.
KOLKATA, OCT 25 (PTI):
Cyclone Sitrang crossed the Bangladesh coast near Bari sal after skirting the West Bengal coast, the IMD said on Tuesday.
The weather in the southern West Bengal dis tricts is likely to improve from forenoon, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.
The system, which moved towards Bangladesh from north Bay of Bengal at a speed of 56 kmph caused moderate to heavy rain and squally weather in West Bengal’s coastal districts of South 24 Parganas, North 24 Parganas and Purba Me dinipur, dampening festive spirits on Deepavali and Kali Puja.
Sitrang made landfall between Tinkona island and Sandwip near Barisal in Bangladesh between 9.30 pm and 11.30 pm on Mon day with a sustained wind speed of 80 to 90 kmph gusting to 100 kmph, the Regional Met Centre in Kolkata said.
The Bangladeshi me dia reported that the cy clone caused heavy rain in southeastern parts of the neighbouring country.
It is very likely to weak en into a depression and then into a low pressure by Tuesday evening, the IMD said.
The weather office warned of squally wind with speed reaching 40 to 50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph along and off West Bengal coast on Tuesday morning, which will decrease gradu ally to 30 to 40 kmph gusting to 50 kmph by forenoon.
Intermittent showers on Monday forced people to remain indoors as most Kol kata streets wore a deserted look on a festive evening which would normally have attracted tens of thousands to visit Kali Puja pandals and see the bright lights of the city.
The West Bengal gov ernment had advised people take necessary precautions in view of the weather fore cast.
The first contact, where in the moon begins to cover the solar disc, happened at 4:29 pm in Delhi, where the moon was expected to cover 43 per cent of the solar disc.
Since the eclipse is tak ing place in the evening, the ending of the celestial phenomenon will not be visible as it would take place after sunset. “A solar eclipse occurs on a new moon day when the Moon comes in between the Earth and the Sun and when all the three objects are aligned. A par tial solar eclipse will occur when the lunar disk covers the solar disk partially,” an official said.
Government officials cautioned that eclipsed sun should not be viewed with the naked eye, as it could lead to blindness.
A safe technique to observe the solar eclipse is either by using proper fil ter like aluminized Mylar, black polymer, welding glass of shade number 14 or by making projection of sun’s image on a white board by telescope.
He also gifted his fel low Bharat Yatris who are walking the entire yatra and the workers and drivers with a silver coin and sweets.
“We have walked hand in hand in the beautiful Bharat Jodo Yatra - your faith, your belief in your selves and in India’s true values will defeat hate and illuminate the path forward.
“Don’t talk, act. Don’t say, show. Don’t promise, prove. I wish you and your family a very Happy Deep awali,” Gandhi said in his letter to all yatris and those working at the camp.
The Congress also tweeted Gandhi’s letter and said, “Wow... beautiful...full of affection. On the auspi cious occasion of Diwali,
Rahul Gandhi ji gave a won derful gift to Bharat Yatris, camp workers and drivers in the form of a letter, sweets and silver coins - which they will never forget.” Gandhi is undertak ing the Bharat Jodo Yatra to help unite the country against the backdrop of hate and division that the Congress is alleging is being perpetrated by the BJP in society. The 3,570-km yatra started in Kanyakumari on September 7 and will contin ue for the next five months till February end and will pass through 12 states.
Britain’s musical chair
Britainhad its third prime minister within three months when Rishi Sunak was chosen to head Britain on October 25 after Liz Truss resigned on October 20 following her government’s failed tax-cutting budget that rocked financial mar kets and which led to a revolt within her own Con servative Party. Truss had earlier replaced the then irrepressible prime minister Boris Johnson on Sep tember 6 after he was forced to resign on July 7 due to covid-19 pandemic party gate scandal, backlash over skyrocketing costs of living, and other crises. She had been in office for just 44 days, making her the shortest-serving prime minister in British his tory. Rishi Sunak, an Indian-origin British lawmaker was chosen as the next prime minister of the UK on October 24. He is the UK’s first leader of colour and also son in law of N.R. Narayana Murthy, well known founder of Indian software giant Infosys. Sunak took charge after meeting King Charles III who invited him to form the government. Sunak’s win came after Penny Mordaunt backed out of the Tory leadership contest and failed to secure the necessary 100 nominations from her fellow Tory MPs. Sunak’s phenomenal rise to the office of the prime minister of the UK has also sparked debate in India between liberals and right wing politicians about his Hindu credentials. The political spectrum in India is using the elevation of Rishi Sunak to talk about the issues they hold dear. The Hindus especially in the BJP, are just celebratory because someone who has asserted his Hindu faith proudly in the past by doing Gau Puja etc, is becoming the leader of a Western Nation. Besides being the first Hindu Prime Minister of Indian heritage, Sunak is also the youngest for around 200 years at 42 years. Senior Congress leader and former Union Minister P.C. Chidambaram said, “I think there is a lesson to be learned by India and the parties that practise majoritarianism.” Chidambaram pointed out that first, Kamala Harris was chosen as vice president of the USA and then Rishi Sunak as the prime minister of UK. In all these, he said both the USA and UK have embraced the non-majority citizens of minority religions in choosing them as leaders of their countries. He opined that there was a les son learnt by India and also a strong message for those who practise majoritarianism. The debate in India that clearly has political overtones, does no credit to the British politicians who seen Rishi Su nak as the man who may have the answer to their economic problems. Rishi is first a British citizen and then a prime minister of his country. Be it Rishi Sunak or Sadiq Aman Khan , the Mayor of London, since 2016; both belong to different religions. Both were chosen on the basis of their capabilities and not because of their race of religion. A social media post after Rishi was chosen as the prime minister of UK, listed the three top leaders –Rishi a Hindu, Khan a Muslim and King Charles III a Christian.. It would take an incredibly naive person to believe that just because Sunak is a proud Hindu and a leader of Indian origin, he is going to take decisions that are beneficial to India.

Submitting to God’s Purpose
I have become all things to all men, that I might by all means save some. —1 Corinthians 9:22
A Christian worker has to learn how to be God’s man or woman of great worth and excellence in the midst of a multitude of meager and worthless things. Never protest by saying, “If only I were somewhere else!” All of God’s people are ordinary people who have been made extraordinary by the purpose He has given them. Unless we have the right purpose intellectually in our minds and lovingly in our hearts, we will very quickly be diverted from being useful to God. We are not workers for God by choice. Many people deliberately choose to be workers, but they have no purpose of God’s almighty grace or His mighty Word in them. Paul’s whole heart, mind, and soul were consumed with the great purpose of what Jesus Christ came to do, and he never lost sight of that one thing. We must continually confront ourselves with one central fact— “…Jesus Christ and Him crucified” (1 Corinthians 2:2).
“I chose you…” (John 15:16). Keep these words as a wonderful reminder in your theology. It is not that you have gotten God, but that He has gotten you. God is at work bend ing, breaking, molding, and doing exactly as He chooses. And why is He doing it? He is doing it for only one purpose— that He may be able to say, “This is My man, and this is My woman.” We have to be in God’s hand so that He can place others on the Rock, Jesus Christ, just as He has placed us.
Never choose to be a worker, but once God has placed His call upon you, woe be to you if you “turn aside…to the right or the left…” (Deuteronomy 28:14). He will do with you what He never did before His call came to you, and He will do with you what He is not doing with other people. Let Him have His way.

When we travel to vari ous cities of the globe particularly those that are developed and doing well, we come across city centre or centres which are not only a must see but also like nerve centres and is a part of the character of the city. Some examples are Times square, new York, champs de elysee, Paris, Picadilly circus, London, La Rambla, Barcelona and so on so forth. Most of the elected leaders or others from Nagaland have travelled widely around the Globe and are fully aware but unfortunately, we have not been able to put it in place in our state.
There was a time during DAN 1 Government of Naga land had proposed city centre in the area of the old secre tariat, Kohima but nothing got translated on ground and even discussions do not seem to hap pening. Hopefully the Kohima smart city project will take this into consideration. In fact the Commercial capital, Dimapur requires at least one city centre and it would be possible in the Naga shopping arcade area now in Dimapur district or in the Northeast Agri Expo area, now in Chumukedima district. The state Government will do well to look into this aspect beside priorities such as Roads, Power, Water supply, Health, Education and other essential
City centre
services. People of Nagaland are eagerly awaiting “ change is coming” – the slogan of the present Government.
It is heartening to note that during the recent visit of the Advisor(Urban develop ment) Dr. Nicky Kire and the principal Secretary Shri Himato Zhimomi there was a discussion about City Centre in the Naga Shopping Arcade area as was reported by a local daily. There is a great need for us to keep pace with the rest of the world. A city centre is not just a place for leisure but rather a nerve centre of the city. Important events, conferences, meetings can happen in this lo cation which will have required facilities such as IT centre, Mall or convenience stores, fuelling station, Movie complex, Cafes/ restaurants, souvenir stores, Bookshops, Conference halls and a sizable outdoor space for large meetings/events and also for parking. The details can be worked out as per require ment by technical experts as per the original plan, space is still available.
The recent unfortunate incident of a few eucalyptus trees collapsing in the Shopping Arcade area leading to loss of precious lives and injuries to some others was indeed tragic.

Every year, World Food Day is cel ebrated on 16 October. This day aims at tackling global hunger and striving to eradicate hunger across the world. But question arises are we learn ing something from the celebration not to waste food in order to tackle hunger? As per ancient wisdom, food is hailed as nectar, and wastage of food is considered a sin. But one-third of all food globally goes to waste. That’s enough to feed 3 billion people! Food wastage is fast as suming serious dimensions. According to the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), a staggering 1.3 billion tonnes of food is being wasted annually. The FAO report further states that one-third of the total global food production is wasted, costing the world economy about $750 billion or Rs. 47 lakh crore. According to the UN Hunger Report, although the world produces enough food to feed the entire global population, still as many as 811 million people go hungry every day. It is because of food wastage. As per Food and Agricultural Organisation report, nearly 931 million tonnes of food go to waste each year which accounts for nearly 17% of global food production. As per the UN Environment Programme’s (UNEP) Food Waste Index Report, 2021 61% of food waste comes from households, 26% from food service and 13% from retail. According to the report, the US wasted 59 kg per household and China 64 kg per household. The household food waste es timate in the US 19,359,951 tonnes a year, while China accounts for 91,646,213 tonnes of food wastage a year That amounts to a staggering 68,760,163 metric tonnes of household food waste per year. Accord ing to a report by the National Resources Defence Council (NRDC), 40 per cent of the food goes uneaten in the US, whereas in Asia, India and China cause a loss 1.3 billion tonnes of food wastage every year.
departments ordered for fell
ing of all the trees along that stretch from Nagarjan police point to Walford Junction. More than 400 standing trees have been felled and the area looks like the bald head of some of our esteemed leaders. The main area of concern is that this cleared area should not be misused for allotment of stalls or such other structures. It is so heartbreaking to note that the beautifully planned Arcade is slowly turning into concrete jungle and structures have sprung up all over the complex and even worse it has become a vice den. There is still hope if the political leaders as well as the local leaders, officers and the public are able to see the larger picture and come up with clear vision and concrete plan to rejuvenate this precious location and make it a place of pride for not only Dimapurians but Nagas in general. It is get ting late and we need to wake up “ better late than never “
I can vividly recall, as the then Additional Deputy Com missioner( 1986-88), Dimapur which was still a Sub-Division under Kohima District, the Lo cal administration had made several attempts to shift the Hong Kong market as well as roadside peddlers on Church road to the Naga Shopping Arcade as it had sufficient parking space and had the
potential to become one of the best markets even in the Northeastern region. There was a lot of reluctance as the people were not willing to move out from their comfort Zones and perhaps due to some vested interest. However, the Wednesday market gradually came up and has been catering to the public quite well though not in orderly manner.
The Eucalyptus trees which have been cut should replaced by some other aes thetically and physically suit able trees for shade as well as aesthetics. The idea of city cen tre should be seriously looked into by the State Government, District administration and the Development Authority of Nagaland(DAN). Allotment of space to private parties without careful consideration of the Master Plan must be stopped forthwith. The public of Dimapur must remain vigi lant on this issue in order that Dimapur can become a better city- remember that Dimapur is the commercial capital of the state and there is a great need for the denizens to think of it as “ Our city”

Acute power blackout at Phek neighborhoods
Power outages in an around Phek head quarters is not a new trend and citizens are not strangers to regular blackouts. But this time, it seems to be going beyond reasonability. Since 11th Oct., there has been no electric power supply in some villages around Phek town like Lozaphuhu, Losami & Lanezho and ignorant villagers has no clue of what has happened. Even if electricity comes for few moment, it blinks which is as good as no power. Perhaps, one of the consequences of officers’ absenteeism that District Offices has come to wrought with, directing the field and offices from the comfort of Kohima and Dimapur while the over strained lower staff are often made to bear the brunt of public wrath. Covid-19 has changed the way things function and regular electricity and good internet connectivity has become the san qua non for many things to function. Especially students, teachers, researchers, educational institutions, work-from-home office people, time bound online works, entrepreneurs, workers whose machinery is power driven, etc. gets terribly affected whenever there is power failure or poor net connectivity. In the past, we hardly see neighboring Manipur villages lighted while Nagaland villages remained lighted but today it is becoming opposite. It is so unfortunate that while other states are going forward, we are advancing backward. Depriving of electricity is no less a violation of basic human right enshrine in the Constitu tion of India in Article 25 (1) & Article 39 (a) under Right to Adequate Standard of Living under Socio-economic right and enforceable by the court of law. We earnestly appeal to the authorities to restore power supply.
Zhokusheyi RhakhoFood wastage in India: A concern Naga leaders’ meeting with Gandhi in Delhi on July 17, 1947
India in a piquant situation: It produces more, wastes more while more people go hungry. Indians waste as much food as the whole of United Kingdom consumes – food wastage is an alarming issue in In dia. Our streets and garbage bins, landfills have enough proof to prove it. Wastage of food is not indicative of only hunger or pollution, but also many economic prob lems in the country, such as inflation. In India, the bigger the wedding, the larger the party and the more colossal the waste. Weddings, restaurants, hotels, social and family functions, households spew out so much food. In an eye-opening revelation, Indian households waste 50 kilograms of food per person per year or 68,760,163 tonnes a year., according to the United Nations Environment Programme’s Food Waste Index Report 2021. In India, 40% of the food is wasted which is equivalent to Rs 92,000 crores a year. Around 1% of the GDP is depleted in the form of food wastage. According to the Ministry of Ag riculture (Govt of India), Rs.50,000 crores of food produced gets wasted every year.
Food loss and waste undermine the sustainability of our food systems. When food is lost or wasted, all the resources that were used to produce this food - including water, land, energy, labour and capital - go to waste. Food wastage’s carbon footprint is estimated at 3.3 billion tonnes of CO2 equivalent of GHG released into the at mosphere per year.
Only government policies are not responsible for food waste problem we are facing today, but our culture and traditions are also playing a lead role in this drama.
So, stopping the wastage of food is one single step that can make our country and planet a better place to live. It is a very easy habit that needs a small tweaking of our existing habits of how we consume and store our food.
On July 17, 1947, the Naga delegations headed by A.Z phizo met Mahatma Gandhi at Bhangi Basti in Delhi. The Naga Delegations submitted the points that they wanted to discuss with Mahatma Gandhi as follows:
1. The Nagas are from a country in the NE frontier of India, Which lies between two huge countries namely, India and China.
2. The Nagas were independent before the Brit ish advent.
3. They were first at tacked in 1849. They fought the British for 30 years for independence. The last bat tle was fought in 1879. And the Nagas were conquered.
4. The Naga (British subjects) demanded inde pendence In 1929 when the Simon Commission visited Kohima, the headquarters of the Naga hills.
5. The Naga Hills has been a totally “excluded area” since the 1935 act came into force.
6. Again in 1946, the Nagas demanded complete independence when the British decided to withdraw from India. An interim ar rangement on the lines of district autonomy has been offered to the Nagas by the authorities and the Nagas have rejected it.
It’s a grim paradox; a country that struggles to feed its starving population also wastes a lot of food. This contradiction puts
N owadays, more brands are stepping forward to incor porate sustainable clothing and they are creating it by giving it a stylish twist based on ongoing fashion trends.
For instance, most fastfashion retailers are looking at ways to cut down their carbon footprints and are working towards a sustain able future.
The manufacturing process is witnessing a trans formation and opting for a more sustainable approach to making clothes. Fash ion retailers and apparel manufacturers are opting for nature-based fabrics.
Chemical usage in process ing and dyeing fabrics has been reduced considerably.
~ Pat BuckleyFabrics that are made with closed-loop processes help in conservation and en sure the optimum use of resources. Industries are incorporating modern tech nology that enables them to
7. The Nagas fought for independence when the British threatened to take
away their independence back in the 19th century.
8. Again the Nagas resisted the Japanese inva sion with all their might in 1944 for their independence.
9. This demand of the Nagas for independence is not the opinion of the Dewan or ruler (The nagas have no ruler and the British are going). It is the will of the people.
10. The Nagas will declare independence on August 14, 1947.
Points of discussion:
1. The Nagas are de termined to have complete independence. They will not join the Indian Union. They will die before losing their independence.
2. Will the Govern ment of India use force to bring the Nagas under the Indian Union? Does anyone under the Sun have the right to take away their indepen dence? It might still right.
Mahatma Gandhi as sured that “ Nagas have every right to be independent if they did not want to join the Indian Union. When the Naga delegates pointed out that the Assam governor Sir Akbar Hydari was threaten ing to use force against the Nagas in case they refused to join the Indian Union, Gandhi exclaimed:
“ Sir Akbar is wrong. He cannot do that….. I will come to the Naga Hills; I will ask them to shoot me
Moving closer to sustainability
reduce water consumption.
Sustainable fashion in modern times is considered by looking at every stage in the supply chain: design, material procurement, pro cessing and production, transportation, distribution, end of life, and understand ing of companies’ initia tives. The business model is assessed based on the impact on nature -- how intense the water usage, pollution and carbon emissions are during processing; ensuring proper waste management at the pre/post-consumer stage, are all important aspects.
Here are four factors that need to be addressed in the fashion industry in order to move closer to sustainability.
. Using more sustain able materials
. Minimising the car bon footprint of the industry and improving resource efficiency
. Reducing waste
. And, perhaps the least talked about, making the industry transparent and easy to understand for the consumer
For instance, Liva, a natural fluid fabric, is ethi cally derived from natural, renewable resources and manufactured through a stringent eco-friendly pro cesses that can be traced to its origin, contributing towards a greener environ ment. Fibers sourced from certified sustainable forests help enhance the fluidity and softness of the fabric. These fabrics save landfills by 6-7 times more than cot ton and consume 3-4 times lesser water.
Initiatives by the in dustry toward sustainability
The first step for many companies is to implement recycling programs. The increasing environmental pressure has been building over a period of time on our ecosystem warrant
ing re-consideration of our economic paradigm. This urges commercial industries around the world to increase the efficiency of natural resource use and reduce the overall environmental impact.
Manufacturing units are making use of solar en ergy which is very beneficial in the conservation of de pletable resources. Fashion brands too are becoming environmentally responsible by leveraging technology, automating production, and making packaging more sustainable. Utilization of bacteria-based dyes, deploy ing a blockchain-based sup ply chain, and introducing traceability to increase trans parency are some new-age solutions to better achieve the cause of sustainability.
Marketing the sustain able factor to the target audience
The consumer base is pretty mixed. A typical
consumer is not uniform in their purchasing behaviour. They tend to buy both fastfashion and clothes that have a sustainable approach.
Consumer sentiment versus actual purchasing behaviour is a really interesting point of discussion. We know Millennials and Gen-Zs tend to prefer more sus tainable fashion as it has seen exponential growth over the years. The fact that most sales occurred online benefited tailwinds for the sector-value, variety, and sustainability.
Wave of innovation
The evolution of digital traceability and how it can increase transparency in the supply chain has become a reliable option. This tech nology could also enable brands to trace their supply chains from raw materials to finished goods and monitor suppliers for compliance.
Companies can thus strate gically target potential risks
first before one Naga is shot” Gandhi even went so far as to say “why wait until 14 August? Why not even declare your independence tomorrow?”
The Naga delegation came back assured by Gan dhi’s assurances and de clared their independence on August 14, 1947, one day prior to India’s own declaration of her own in dependence.
I wonder why Indian successors forget the words of their “Father of the Na tion”. He said clearly stated, “ Nagas have every right to be independent if they did not want to join the Indian union”.
I guaranteed no po litical parties bring indepen dence to the Naga people except Naga National Coun cil NNC/FGN. Because the documents or papers were signed by NNC for independence and NNC is the chosen one of the Naga people.
The common people never accept interim govern ment or packages; we want only independence as as sured by Mahatma Gandhi to the Nagas. The talk never concluded even a hundred thousand round talk without the NNC. Don’t waste your precious time and money.
in their supply chains. Some firms are also working on unique digital passports that are tied to a specific garment. This might be a QR code or RFID that presents to both consum ers and companies where something was manufac tured, what the materials are, how many times it’s been owned by someone, and end-of-life information such as the most effective recycling practice.
We’re in the first in nings; this digital infrastruc ture will take an incredible amount of investment and time. Also, digital printing tech emergence has enabled designers to take their ideas from concept to garment in a much faster time frame and opened new avenues of creativity.

car explosion: Five arrested,
COIMBATORE, OCT 25 (PTI): The stringent Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act has been invoked in the case relating to a car explosion in the city that killed one person, while five others have been arrested over the incident and police have intensified the probe covering all aspects includ ing terror angle.
The arrested were identified by the police as Muhammad Talka, Mu hammed Azharuddin, Muhammed Riyaz, Firoze Ismail and Muhammed Nawaz Ismail, all in their 20s.
With some of them being en quired by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in 2019, the police were also probing their activities after that, City Police Commissioner V Balakrishnan said. Hours after the Tamil Nadu BJP questioned why the police had not specified the reasons for the arrest of the five and the sections under which they have been detained, Balakrishnan said that besides the UAPA, other IPC sections like con spiracy have also been included in the case. Police are also probing if the man killed in the gas cylinder explo sion in the car on Sunday, Jemisha Mubeen had any links with Moham med Azharuddin, an accused in the Easter Sunday bomb blasts in a Sri Lankan Church in 2019, which killed over 250 people. The Kerala visits of the some of the arrested are also being investigated.
Further, 75 kg of potassium ni trate, charcoal and aluminium powder have been recovered from Mubeen’s house, Balakrishnan added. These chemicals are used in making country bombs, police had said earlier. “UAPA has been invoked since there has been an explosion,” Balakrishnan told
Omicron BF.7: Experts urge people to follow protocol
BENGALURU, OCT 25 (IANS):
In the wake of detection of BF.7
Omicron sub-variant in different parts of India, experts have called for diligent following of Covid-19 protocols in Karnataka, said Navo daya Gilla, Consultant -- Internal medicine, CARE Hospitals Group.
Also called the Omicron Spawn, the BF.7 sub-variant is the newest form that has high transmissibil ity. This is because the new variant quickly bypasses the immunity that a person has developed through a natural infection with an earlier vari ant or even if the complete course of the vaccines are taken, he added.
Due to this there is an expecta tion that the world might see a fourth wave of the pandemic.
This new Omicron variant was first detected in China and India has seen its first case of this variant in Gujarat.
The symptoms of the new BF.7 sub-variant are similar to common
AYODHYA (UP), OCT 25 (PTI): The grand Ram temple in Ayodhya will be opened to devotees in Janu ary 2024 after the installa tion of idols of the deity, said a key member of the trust set up to oversee its construction.
The Shri Ram Janmab hoomi Teerth Khestra on Tuesday said 50 per cent of the construction work of the temple has been completed and the overall progress is satisfactory.
“The temple will be opened to devotees in Janu ary 2024 after the installa tion of idols of Ram Lalla in the sanctum sanctorum of the shrine on the festival of Makar Sankranti,” trust general secretary Champat Rai told PTI.
He said the ground floor of the temple will be ready by December next year and around January 14, 2024, idols of Lord Ram will be installed.
“An estimated Rs 1,800
crore will be spent on build ing the Ram temple,” Rai said, adding that space will be made for idols of promi nent Hindu seers.
A group of journal ists were on Tuesday taken to the elevated place from where Prime Minister Nar endra Modi had on Sunday inspected the construction work of the temple.
The prime minister had performed the “bhoomi
pujan” for the construction of the temple on August 5, 2020.
A Supreme Court ver dict of November 9, 2019 had paved the way for the construction of the Ram temple in Ayodhya.
According to the plan, temples of Valmiki, Ke wat, Shabari, Jatayu, Sita, Vighneshwar (Ganesh) and Sheshavatar (Lakshman) will also be constructed
within a 70-acre area in the vicinity of the Ram temple.
A rectangular, twostoreyed ‘Parikrama’ road is also being constructed, en closing a total of eight acres of land including the area of the temple and its courtyard. In its eastern part, there will be an entrance made of sandstone.
White marble from the Makrana hills in Rajas than will be used inside the sanctum sanctorum of the temple.
Modi’s visit to Ayod hya on October 23 was the first after he laid the founda tion stone two years back.
After offering prayers to Ram Lalla at the make shift temple, the prime minister had reviewed the progress of the construction work.
The opening of the temple for devotees in the beginning of 2024 is seen as politically important too as the Lok Sabha elections are scheduled for later that year.

Maoists torch vehicles in Odisha
fine on Google
NEW DELHI, OCT 25 (IANS): The Competition Commission of India (CCI) on Tuesday slapped its sec ond penalty on Google within a week -- this time to the tune of around $113 million (Rs 936 crore) -- for abusing its dominant posi tion with respect to its Play Store policies.
Last week, the market watchdog had imposed a penalty of Rs 1,337.76 crore on Google for abusing its dominant position in mul tiple markets in the Android mobile device ecosystem.
In its fresh ruling, the regulator found Google to be dominant in the markets for licensable OS for smart mobile devices and market for app stores for Android smart mobile OS, in India.
“Selling of in-app digital goods constitutes an important means for app developers to monetise their creations/innovations. However, for in-app digital goods to be distributed to purchasing users, developers must configure their apps
so that all purchases of the digital goods go through Google’s payment system, which processes the transac tions,” it said.
Google’s Play Store policies require the app developers to exclusive ly and mandatorily use Google Play’s Billing Sys tem (GPBS) not only for receiving payments for Apps (and other digital products like audio, video, games) distributed/sold through the Google Play Store but also for certain in-app purchases.
If the app develop ers do not comply with Google’s policy of using GPBS, they are not permit ted to list their apps on the
Play Store and thus, would lose out the vast pool of potential customers in the form of Android users.
“Making access to the Play Store dependent on mandatory usage of GPBS for paid apps and in-app purchases is one sided and arbitrary and devoid of any legitimate business interest. The app developers are left bereft of the inherent choice to use payment processors of their liking from the open market,” said the CCI.
Google India was yet to react to the fresh CCI rul ing. India is Google’s largest market by users.
The CCI also directed Google to cease and desist
WhatsApp faces nearly 2-hr outage
NEW DELHI, OCT 25 (PTI): WhatsApp services were restored following a nearly two-hour-long global outage on Tuesday that left users from the UK to India complaining about not be ing able to send or receive text and video messages.
Meta, which owns the popular messaging app, said it has fixed the outagedubbed as one of its longest - and the service was back.
It, however, did not explain what caused the glitch.
According to Down detector, which tracks out age reports, the messaging app was not working for many users across multiple regions.
WhatsApp Web, the app’s web version, used by many on their desktops and laptops, was also hit by the outage.
“We know people had
trouble sending messages on WhatsApp today. We’ve fixed the issue and apologise for any inconvenience,” a Meta company spokesper son said.
Meta, previously known as Facebook, bought WhatsApp in 2014.
WhatsApp is extreme ly popular outside of the US, where many people use it for everyday commu nication.

DIMAPUR, OCT 25 (NPN): Food Cor poration of India (FCI) has reiterated that sufficient stocks of rice were available in central pool to meet the requirement of NFSA and other schemes of the Centre as well as for additional requirement of Prad han Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY) for the state of Nagaland.
In a press release, FCI regional office Dimapur informed that as on October 22, 2022 approximately 40644 MT of rice was available in the central pool, which
it said was “well above the buffer norms /operational requirement.”
Even after meeting the requirement of stocks under NFSA, FCI said other welfare schemes as well as PMGKAY VII there was sufficient stocks of rice with FCI Nagaland to meet the state requirement.
Out of 27020 MT allocated for Octo ber 2022 including all schemes, 16904 MT had been lifted by state during October and the balance stock to be lifted by state was 10116 MT.
from indulging in anti-com petitive practices.
“Google shall allow, and not restrict app de velopers from using any third-party billing/ payment processing services, either for in-app purchases or for purchasing apps. Google shall also not discriminate or otherwise take any adverse measures against such apps using third party billing/ payment processing ser vices, in any manner,” said the regulator.
In relation to computa tion of penalty, the Commis sion noted that there were glaring inconsistencies and wide disclaimers in present ing various revenue data points by Google.
Accordingly, the Com mission imposed a penalty at 7 per cent of its average relevant turnover amount ing to Rs 936.44 crore upon Google.
The tech giant has been given a time of 30 days to provide the requisite finan cial details and supporting documents.

CHENNAI, OCT 25 (IANS): Banking services across the nation will get affected on November 19, with members of the All India Bank Employees’ As sociation (AIBEA) going on strike, said an official.

He said AIBEA union leaders have been dismissed/ retrenched from service by Sonali Bank, MUFG Bank, Federal Bank and Standard Chartered Bank.

NSCN (I-M) rebuts SCAN charge on encroaching Ntangki
(From p-1) Further NSCN(I-M) claimed that Jalukiekam village authorities gave it permission to establish its council headquarters (CHQ), Hebron camp, on the condition that the land would be returned to the owner (Jalukiekam village) in the event of it leaving the place.
It also said Hebron was also allocated as a ceasefire designated camp during chief minister-ship of SC Jamir, adding that he (Jamir) should be well aware that the camp had nothing to do with Ntangki National Park.
Referring to the Forest department claim of having acquired the land (currently Hebron camp) from one Kachari who had been pay ing land taxes to old Jalukie village, NSCN (I-M) ques tioned how a tenant could sell the land? It clarified that the forest colony/Hebron was never given to the For est Department by its land owner (Jalukiekam or Old Jalukie village).
NSCN(I-M) said it was important to note that the forest department had shifted to Bisumpuikam village under compelling circumstances and its office could be seen at the village block-C, the release added.
NSCN (I-M) denied that, at no occasion, had it disturbed or harassed the Forest department in per forming its duties. Further it stated that as a responsible organisation, it would never overstep its role to stoop that low as to be a nuisance to the department. NSCN(I-M) therefore, said the question of the department having to ask its permission should never arise. Such fabricated statement from SCAN was something highly uncalled for, it stated.
NSCN (I-M) expressed disheartenment at SCAN raising a great hue and cry against something that did not exist at all and desper ately attempting to generate a storm in a tea cup. It said the discerning people should be able to read between the lines how SCAN’s irrespon sible utterance was done de liberately to provoke public outcry against it. NSCN(IM) pointed out that rather, it had only exposed its ulterior motive.
“The irony is that it only goes to heap disgrace upon the very group wearing the crown of senior citizens association that comprises of Nagas that are attached with the highest echelon of Indian/Nagaland civil service,” the statement read.
NSCN (I-M) said it was unfortunate that SCAN headed by KK Sema as spokesman, had turned into a “troublemaker rather than a trouble-shooter” which it said, was “very unbecom ing of the nomenclature of SCAN” which should have displayed its mission with religious fervour without allowing other powers to use it with vested interests.
NSCN(I-M) said while SCAN claimed to be nonpolitical organisation, the fact remained that Sema being their spokesman nul lified the claim by citing that he contested the 2018 As sembly election on Congress ticket and faced humiliating defeat.
NSCN (I-M) said “such person who have gained the notoriety to be loudmouthed and who have developed the shameless habits of going for big lies should not have been al lowed to represent a nonpolitical organisation lest he brings further disgrace to the organization.”
NSNC (I-M) said noth ing was farther from truth than SCAN’s allegation and that Ntangki National Park was “used and manipulated by NSCN is simply an ex travagance of an old brag gart like KK Sema.”

Palestinians killed in Israeli troop raid
NABLUS (WEST BANK), OCT 25 (AP): Israeli forces raided a stronghold of an armed group in the occupied West Bank’s second-largest city, blowing up a bomb lab and engaging in a firefight, the military said on Tuesday.
Five Palestinians were killed and 20 were wounded, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry.
The overnight raid in the old city, or kasbah, of Nablus, was one of the deadliest in the West Bank in 2022 and comes at a time of escalating tensions.
Television footage showed flames and smoke rising in the night sky over Nablus. The army said it used shoulder-launched missiles. Local residents re ported a large explosion that rocked the old city and sur rounding neighbourhoods.
The target of the raid was a group of Palestinian gunmen calling themselves the Lions’ Den. The group was responsible for the re cent fatal shooting of an Israeli soldier and several attempted attacks, the army said.
The five men killed in the raid were in their 20s and 30s, the Health Ministry said. Several of the wound ed were in serious condition, the ministry said.
Israel’s caretaker prime minister, Yair Lapid, con
firmed that Wadie Houh, a leader of the Lion’s Den group, was killed in a shoot out with Israeli troops over night. In remarks at a con ference, he said the opera tion was “an accurate and deadly strike at the heart of terror infrastructure trying to carry out attacks”.
Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza Strip staged a general strike in protest of Tuesday’s killings. Stores remained shuttered throughout the day in Nab lus, Ramallah, Gaza City and other Palestinian cities.
Elsewhere in the West
Bank, the army said troops fired at a suspect who threw an explosive at them during an arrest raid near the village of Nebi Saleh. The Palestin ian Health Ministry report ed the death of 19-year-old Qusai al-Tamimi.
Ongoing Israeli arrest raids in the West Bank pose a serious challenge to the Palestinian self-rule govern ment, which administers just over one-third of the ter ritory. Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas relies on security cooperation with Israel, particularly against his Islamic militant rivals,
US vows full military defence of allies against North Korea
TOKYO, OCT 25 (AP):
The United States will make full use of its military capa bilities, “including nuclear, conventional and missile defence,” to defend its allies Japan and South Korea, US Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman said Tues day as she warned North Korea against escalating its provocations.
Sherman said North Korea’s repeated firings of ballistic missiles and artil lery in recent weeks were provocative military actions. North Korea has described them as practice runs for the use of tactical nuclear weapons.
“This is deeply irre sponsible, dangerous, and destabilizing,” Sherman said in talks in Tokyo with South Korean First Vice Foreign Minister Cho Hyungdong. The two officials met ahead of a three-way meeting with their Japanese counterpart on Wednesday.
It will be second inperson meeting of the three officials since conservative South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol took office in May, signalling an improve ment in difficult ties between Japan and South Korea.
A year ago, Japanese and South Korean vice ministers declined to participate in a joint news conference after three-way talks in Wash ington, leaving Sherman to make a solo media appear ance.
Sherman said North Korea needs to understand that the US commitment to the security of South Korea and Japan is “ironclad”.
“And we will use the full range of US defence capabilities to defend our allies, including nuclear, conventional and missile de fence capabilities,” she said.
Cho, during his talks with Sherman, raised con cern that a new North Ko rean nuclear weapons policy adopted in September in creases the possibility of its arbitrary use of nuclear
Pakistan to probe killing of journalist in Kenya
ISLAMABAD, OCT 25
(PTI): The Pakistan gov ernment on Tuesday de cided to set up a judicial commission to probe the killing of prominent jour nalist Arshad Sharif in Kenya.
Sharif was shot dead in Kenya by the local police on Sunday night, with an official police statement later expressing “regrets on the unfortunate incident”.
Prime Minister She hbaz Sharif in a video message announced to officially probe the killing after questions were raised in the media about the mysterious circumstances of his death.
Deploring the tragic incident, the prime minis ter also assured the entire nation that an independent probe would bring all facts about the killing to light.
“I have decided to probe the killing and for this, I will ask the high court,” he said, adding the government would seek
approval from the Cabinet for it.
Pakistan’s powerful army had also asked the government to probe the killing.
Information Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb also confirmed through a state ment that a judicial com mission would be formed to probe the killing.
She said that the head of the commission would also be able to appoint members from civil society and the media fraternity in order to ascertain the facts.
The decision to set up the commission follows a petition in the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Mon day to order the formation of a judicial commission to investigate why the journal ist was forced to flee Paki stan, and later the United Arab Emirates.
While accepting the petition for hearing, it di rected the government to keep journalists’ bodies on board while it investigates.
weapons. “This is creating serious tension on the Ko rean Peninsula,” Cho said.
Sherman met earlier Tuesday with Japanese Vice Foreign Minister Takeo Mori and reaffirmed the further strengthening of the Japan-US alliance and other shared goals, including the complete denuclearisation of North Korea and their joint response to China’s in creasingly assertive actions in the region.
Japanese Defence Min ister Yasukazu Hamada recently said North Korea is believed to have achieved a miniaturisation of nuclear warheads while significantly advancing its missile capa bilities by diversifying its launch technologies, mak ing interceptions more dif ficult.
to remain in power. At the same time, this cooperation is deeply unpopular among Palestinians who chafe against Israel’s open-ended occupation, now in its 56th year.
Younger Palestinians are particularly disillu sioned. Small bands of gun men have formed in some areas, first in the Jenin refu gee camp, a stronghold of militants, and now in Nab lus. These groups challenge the Palestinian Authority and carry out attacks against Israeli targets.

DHAKA, OCT 25 (PTI):
At least 35 people were killed and several homes destroyed as cyclone Si trang ravaged Bangladesh’s southern coastlines and central parts after it made a landfall overnight, accord ing to officials and media reports.

raeli forces blew up a bomb lab in an apartment in Nab lus, the military said.
The statement said a number of militants were targeted and noted that Pal estinians were reporting ca sualties. From the wording of the statement it was not immediately clear if some of those killed and wounded were hit in an initial ambush rather than a subsequent firefight.
Abbas’ spokesman, Nabil Abu Rdeneh, issued a statement in which he described the ongoing Israeli raids as a war crime.
More than 125 Pales tinians have been killed in Israeli-Palestinian fighting in the West Bank and east Jerusalem this year. The fighting has surged since a series of Palestinian attacks killed 19 people in Israel in the spring.
The Israeli army says most of the Palestinians killed have been militants. But stone-throwing youths protesting the incursions and others not involved in confrontations have also been killed.
Israel captured the West Bank in the 1967 Mid east war and has built more than 130 settlements there, many of which resemble small towns, with apartment blocks, shopping malls and industrial zones.

No backing down to Chinese aggression: Tsai
TAIPEI (TAIWAN), OCT 25 (AP): Taiwan won’t back down in the face of “aggressive threats” from China, the president of the self-governing island democracy Tsai Ing-wen said Tuesday, comparing growing pressure from Bei jing to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Tsai’s comments fol low the conclusion of the twice-a-decade congress of China’s Communist Party at which it upped its longstanding threat to annex the island it considers its own territory by force if necessary.
The party added a line into its constitution on “resolutely opposing and deterring” Taiwan’s independence “resolutely implementing the policy of one country, two systems,’” the formula by which it plans to govern the island in future.
The blueprint has al ready been put in place in the former British colony of Hong Kong, which has seen its democratic system, civil liberties and judicial independence decimated.
Speaking to an inter national gathering of prodemocracy activists in Tai
pei, Tsai said democracies and liberal societies were facing the greatest host of challenges since the Cold War.
“Russia’s unprovoked invasion of Ukraine is a prime example. It shows an authoritarian regime will do whatever it takes to achieve expansionism,” Tsai said.
“The people of Tai wan are all too familiar with such aggression. In recent years, Taiwan has been confronted by increas ingly aggressive threats from China,” she said, listing military intimida tion, cyber attacks and economic coercion among them.
The rising Chinese threat has spurred calls
To The President Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party Kohima : Nagaland
Sub: Resignation from the Primary Membership & CEB NDPP. Sir, I am to refer to the subject and to state that the Party High Command has decided to issue party tickets in the forthcoming Elections 2023 to the erstwhile 21 NPF MLAs. The present Tuli MLA who joined the NDPP along with the 21 NPF MLAs is being actively considered for issuance of the NDPP party ticket by the party High command. Such an unfair and unjustified decision has evoked widespread resentment and confusion amongst the NDPP party members especially, under NDPP 21 Tuli A/C. Who felt betrayed and humiliated.
Furthermore, the appointment of the President NDPP Tuli A/C replacing the incumbent President who was constitutionally elected by the 21 Tuli A/C has further deepened the crisis within the party rank and file for such arbitrary appointment.
In view of the circumstances stated as above and having therefore no other justifications to continue in the NDPP, I do hereby tender my resignation from both the Primary membership and Secretary, Central Executive Member (CEB) of the NDPP party with immediate effect.
I’m grateful to the party for the support and co operation rendered during the formative years of the NDPP, especially for 21 Tuli Assembly Constituency.
I especially place on record the Hon’ble Chief Minister Mr. Neiphiu Rio’s kind advice help and guidance extended during the period with the NDPP in question.
Yours sincerely Dated : Kohima 25th October 2022.
(J.I. YADEN)on Taiwan for additional defense investments and a lengthening of the term of national service required of all Taiwanese men.
“However, even under constant threats, the people of Taiwan have never shied away from the challenges” and have fought to work against authoritarian forces looking to undermine their democratic way of life, Tsai said.
Tsai was speaking at the opening ceremony of the World Movement for Democracy’s Steer ing Committee, which is chaired by 2021 Nobel Peace Prize laureate Maria Ressa.
Taiwan and China split amid civil war in 1949 and Taipei enjoys strong U.S. military and political support, despite the lack of formal military ties.
Despite having just 14 official diplomatic allies, Taiwan has drawn increas ing backing from major nations, including Japan, Australia, the U.S., Canada and across Europe.
A recent visit by U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pe losi enraged Beijing, which responded with military ex ercises seen as a rehearsal of a blockade of the island.
On Monday, Tsai met with a German parlia mentary delegation focus ing on human rights, who expressed concern about how Taiwan would handle threats from China.
“Taiwan is really fac ing military threats,” del egation head Peter Heidt said. “From Germany’s point of view, changes to the cross-strait status quo, if any, must be based on peaceful means. Also, these changes must be made after both sides have reached a consensus.”

K. Simon Kikon T. Jomio Kikon Chairman, WTKE General Secretary, WTKEAdidas ends partnership with Kanye West over antisemitic remarks
Adidas has ended its partnership with the rapper formerly known as Kanye West over his offensive and antise mitic remarks, the latest company to cut ties with Ye and a decision that the German sportwear company said would hit its bottom line.
“Adidas does not tol erate antisemitism and any other sort of hate speech,” the company said in a state ment Tuesday. “Ye’s recent comments and actions have been unacceptable, hateful and dangerous, and they violate the company’s val ues of diversity and inclu sion, mutual respect and fairness.”
The company faced pressure to cut ties with Ye, with celebrities and others on social media urging Adidas to act. It said at the beginning of the month that it was placing its lucra tive sneaker deal with the rapper under review.
Adidas said Tues day that it conducted a “thorough review” and would immediately stop production of its line of Yeezy products and stop payments to Ye and his
companies. The sports wear company said it was expected to take a hit of up to 250 million euros ($246 million) to its net income this year from the move.
The move by Adidas, whose CEO Kasper Ror sted is stepping down next year, comes after Ye was suspended from Twitter and Instagram this month over antisemitic posts that the social networks said violated their policies.
He recently suggest ed slavery was a choice and called the COVID-19 vaccine the “mark of the beast,” among other com ments. He also was criti cized for wearing a “White Lives Matter” T-shirt to his Yeezy collection show in Paris.
Ye’s talent agency, CAA, has dropped him, and the MRC studio an nounced Monday that it is shelving a complete docu mentary about the rapper.
The Balenciaga fash ion house cut ties with Ye last week, according to Women’s Wear Daily.
JPMorganChase and Ye have ended their business relationship, although the banking breakup was in the works even before Ye’s antisemitic comments.
In recent weeks, Ye also has ended his com pany’s association with Gap and has told Bloom berg that he plans to cut ties with his corporate suppliers.
After he was sus pended from Twitter and
Facebook, Ye offered to buy conservative social network Parler.
Demonstrators on a Los Angeles overpass Sat urday unfurled a banner praising Ye’s antisemitic comments, prompting an outcry on social media from celebrities and others who said they stand with Jewish people.
In Germany, where Adidas is headquartered, the head of the country’s main Jewish group wel comed the company’s deci sion but said the “step was overdue”.
“I would have liked a clear stance earlier from a German company that also was entangled with the Nazi regime,” Josef Schuster, president of the Central Council of Jews in Germany, said in a state ment. “Adidas has done a lot to distance itself from its past and, like many sports brands, is one of those companies that con duct big campaigns against antisemitism and racism. That’s why an earlier sepa ration from Kanye West would have been appro priate.”

(PTI)Taylor Swift opens up on Easter eggs in her ‘Bejeweled’ music video
Ahead of the midnight release for the ‘Bejeweled’ music video, Taylor Swift, 32, appeared on ‘The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon’ to share behind-the-scenes details about her latest release.
Swift revealed that the ‘Anti-Hero’ music video was treated “as a first single,” but ‘Bejeweled’ was made for the “fans who like certain things like glitter and Easter eggs and lots of little cameos,” reports ‘People’ magazine.
Swift called it “a twist on a Cinderella story” and shared that the cameos are just as magical. According to ‘People’, she revealed that her longtime friends and collaborators, the HAIM sisters, appear as the stepsisters and Oscar winner Laura Dern plays her evil stepmother.
“How did you get in touch with Laura Dern?” asked host Jimmy Fallon. Swift play fully replied that she told the actress, 55, that she wrote a one-page script in which Dern would get to call her a “tired, tacky, wench.”
‘People’ further states that Swift men tioned that instead of having someone portray the fairy godmother, Dita Von Teese appears in the music video as “the fairy god dess” and expressed that she is “one of the most iconic performers.”
Fans will also see cameos from producer Jack Antonoff and “the genius makeup artist and creator” Pat McGrath.
According to Swift, the ‘Bejeweled’ music video has a “psychotic amount” of Easter eggs to the point where a PDF docu ment was created for it. (IANS)
(AP)Emisenla releases poetry book titled ‘This is How We Dissapear’
ohima based Naga writer and assis tant professor, Emisenla Jamir, released her second poetry book titled, “This is How We Dissapear”, published by Kohima based PenThrill Publication House, during a programme at Kohima College, Kohima (KCK) conference hall, here on Tuesday.
Launching the book, advisor IT & C, Science & Technology, New & Re newable Energy, Mmhon lümo Kikon, congratulated Jamir for being able to come up with her second book.
He pointed out that all the three publishing houses in Nagaland were fronted by females which was a testament to how women were leading in the literary sector.
Observing that by sup porting each other, Nagas were breaking away from the tradition of living in isolation and in that regard Kikon suggested that Na
gas should promote each other even in the writing and move forward with a spirit of charity.
He expressed his ap preciation towards the au thor addressing some core issues faced by the people in the state.
Lauding Jamir, Kikon said her writing was seam less, comes off as easy reading and that she rep resented the new genera tion of writers among the Nagas.
He strongly pointed out the need to promote literature and reading cul ture especially among the
younger folks.
Kikon added that only through mass participation in reading and learning that Naga society could reach a higher level of under standing and meaningful participation in crucial decision-making process.
He also lauded Pen Thrill Publication House for being instrumental in bringing the creation of Naga writers to the com mon citizens.
Giving a synopsis on the book, former HoD of English department at KCK, Dr. Kevileno Sakhrie said the book explores the
profound interaction be tween an individual’s inner self with the outer world.
She shared her obser vation on why many Naga women today were writing or were feeling the need to write was because, for a long time they did not have access to education and that their voices were unheard of.
Dr. Sakhrie said Jamir was a poet of great depth and therefore a reader needed to read her poems over and over in order to get to the bottom of what she actually was trying to say.
“Her poems are sharp, precise. Her touch is light even with heavy topics and this book is somewhere where anguage itself be comes a way of life,” the critique said.
Sharing the publisher’s note, Rita Krocha said she and the author had been strongly bonded through their shared love for writing and books.
She observed that
Eating these types of grains can lower your heart disease risk
considered to be premature when it develops at an earlier age than generally expected. For this study, those ages were defined as 55 for women and 65 for men.
PCAD can lead to chest pain or heart at tack as the coronary ar tery narrows or plaques rupture and block blood flow. Smoking, high choles terol, high blood pressure, and diabetes put people at greater risk for developing this condition.
This study is signifi cant because it is one of the first to look at how the type of grain eaten is related to heart disease in a Middle Eastern population. The study participants were all citizens of Iran.
The team of research ers, led by Mohammad Amin Khajavi Gaskarei, MD, of the Isfahan Cardio vascular Research Center and Cardiovascular Re search Institute at Isfahan University of Medical Sci ences in Isfahan, Iran, recruited 2,099 people with PCAD from various Ira nian hospitals who had undergone coronary angi ography (X-ray imaging of the heart’s blood vessels).
Altogether, 1,168 peo ple with healthy coronary arteries were recruited, while there were 1,369 who had CAD with blockages
equal to or above 75% in at least one coronary artery or equal to or above 50% in the left main coronary artery.
Their diet was as sessed using a food fre quency questionnaire to see how much whole or refined grains they were taking in before being diagnosed with heart disease.
Upon analysis of the data, it was found that higher intakes of refined grains were associated with increased PCAD risk.
Higher intakes of whole grains, on the other hand, were linked to reduced risk.
The conference is be ing held October 7-9, 2022 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
How whole grains differ from refined grains
According to Saman tha Snashall, a registered dietitian at The Ohio State University Wexner Medi cal Center, who was not a part of the study, there is a big physical difference
between whole and refined grains.
“Physically, whole grains contain all parts of a wheat kernel (the bran, endosperm, and germ),” said Snashall.
The process of mill ing grains into white flour removes both the germ and bran from the endosperm.
Snashall said the main reason that these parts of the grain are removed is to improve shelf life, texture, and chewability. The fats within the germ can make grains spoil more quickly. Also, the fiber found in the bran can make grain products more chewy and dense, which many people do not enjoy.
However, this also makes refined grains nutri tionally very different from whole grains. “Each part of the kernel has different benefits to it,” she noted.
“The bran, which is the outer layer, contains a large source of fiber, B vitamins, minerals, anti oxidants, and phytochemi cals,” said Snashall. “The most inner layer is the germ. This is where more nutrients such as B vita mins, Vitamin E, healthy fats, and more antioxidants will be found.”
Without the bran and germ, only the in ner portion of the grain, the endosperm remains.
The endosperm is mostly carbohydrates, along with some protein and very few B vitamins, she noted.
Why whole grains are better for heart health
Snashall said whole grains are overall better for your health because they contain more nutrients, which include:
• fiber
• healthy fats
• vitamins
• minerals
• antioxidants
• phytochemicals
Refined grains, on the other hand, are mainly just starchy carbohydrates.
She also noted that fortification doesn’t really make refined grains equiva lent to whole grains.
“[T]hey won’t have as much as the whole grain counterpart,” noted Snashall. “Nor will they have the antioxidants and phytochemicals that whole grains have.”
When it comes to heart health specifically, she said fiber is an impor tant component of whole grains.
“Fiber helps lower our cholesterol levels, specifi cally our LDL cholesterol (“bad cholesterol”) which can be impacted by other foods we consume (trans fats and some saturated fats).”
Additionally, refined
grains are more likely to be used in foods that contain added sugars, like cookies or pastries, according to Snashall. Sugar is linked to an increased risk of heart problems.
She does note, howev er, that just because some thing is labeled “whole grain,” this does not auto matically make it healthier.
“Whole grain cook ies, pastries, and specialty breads like cinnamon raisin can still have plenty of added sugars,” she said.
How to increase your intake of whole grains
Samantha Coogan, Program Director of the Didactic Program in Nu trition and Dietetics at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, suggests that you start slowly and make sure you are taking enough fluid when you first begin eating more whole grains.
The reason? They’re higher in fiber, especially soluble fiber.
Fiber helps with in testinal motility, Coogan explained, but introducing it too quickly can lead to constipation, bloating, gas, and discomfort.
US Dietary Guide linesTrusted Source rec ommend eating 25 to 34 grams of fiber per day from whole foods. Women should shoot for the lower end of the range at about
Jamir was a legacy of pow erful story telling through her poems.
She also said Jamir was one of Nagaland’s most proficient younger generation poets to emerge from a newly rising breed of women.
Sharing the author’s note Emisenla Jamir shared her journey of finishing the collection of poems.
She disclosed that while some poems were easily done, some took days, months and even years to reach to a sense of completion.
On that she added that, a person was their own harshest critic. She also acknowledged the role played by the publisher in the completion of her book.

25 grams per day, while m en should aim for the higher end of the range at 34 grams per day.
“Start with a lower amount at first,” Coogan advised. “If you don’t regu larly consume fiber, start with 10 to 15 grams per day, then increase by about five grams every three to four days until you reach your goal, depending on your individual symptoms/ comfort.”
Coogan said it’s natu ral to see a bit of bloating at first or even constipation. However, this will pass as your body adjusts.
If you’re stuck for ideas on foods to eat, Coogan noted that one way to get more whole grains is to simply swap out white bread for whole grain or eat brown rice instead of white.
She also suggests add ing corn to salads and sal sas and recommends eating popcorn. In addition to being a popular snack food, it’s also a whole grain.
According to the Whole Grains Council, one way to ensure that you are getting adequate whole grains is to look for their stamp. Three foods with the 100% Stamp or six foods with any Whole Grain Stamp are equal to three servings.

LONDON, OCT 25 (AGENCIES): West Ham United defender
Kurt Zouma’s headed goal and a Said Benrah ma penalty in stoppage time sealed a 2-0 win over Bournemouth in a scrappy Premier League tussle that was marked by VAR controversy at the London Stadium on Monday.
Frenchman Zouma glanced the ball in from close range on the stroke of halftime after a goal mouth scramble with the effort being allowed after a VAR check despite a suspicion of handball by his defensive partner Thilo Kehrer in the melee.
There was precious little else for either set of fans to get excited about as West Ham held onto their lead despite some nervy moments as Bournemouth finished strongly.
The Hammers could breathe more easily when Jordan Zemura was harsh ly penalised for handball after another VAR check went against the visitors and Benrahma thumped in his first goal of the sea son past substitute goal keeper Mark Travers.
Bournemouth could feel justifiably frustrated that decisions went against them but West Ham took advantage to claim a fifth home win in succession in all competitions to move up seven places in the con gested table from 17th to 10th with 14 points.
Bournemouth are 14th with 13 points from 12 games.
The main talking point was the impact of
VAR in both goals and Bournemouth’s caretaker manager Gary O’Neil was so angry about the first one that he was booked for comments made to the of ficials at halftime.
West Ham got their noses in front in the 45th minute as Zouma nodded home from in front of goal but the ball had been pro pelled forward by Kehrer’s hands seconds earlier.
After a check by VAR
KBC Jubilee Trophy: Meriema BC beat Chiephobozou BC 2-0
it was deemed that the ac cidental handball had not directly led to the goal.
“There was a foul in the build-up and it’s a bla tant handball, his hands move towards the ball and change the flight of it,” O’Neil said.
“I’m not surprised be cause it’s getting ridiculous. We’ve had 10 VAR checks since I took charge and not one has gone our way.”
FIRST-HALF INJURIES
Bournemouth were not helped by injuries dur ing the first half to striker Dominic Solanke and goal keeper Neto, who made one great save to tip over Aaron Cresswell’s shot.
West Ham were un able to make the game safe, however, until another contentious decision went their way.
Attempting to block a cross, a sliding Zemura inadvertently blocked the ball with his arm from close range.
Initially referee David Coote did not award a pen alty but after being asked to check the VAR screen he changed his mind.
Bournemouth did not really offer much in the way of attacking threat and, while West Ham had some breaks, manager Da vid Moyes said his side deserved the points.
“I thought we were good for periods, I didn’t think we were as good in the final third,” Moyes said.
“I think our perfor mance deserved more than a scruffy set-piece goal and a penalty.”

Barcelona out to prove they are better than Bayern, says Xavi
BARCELONA, OCT 25 (AGENCIES): Barcelona will be eager to show every one that they are better than rivals Bayern Munich when the two teams face off in the Champions League on Wednesday, manager Xavi Hernandez said. Barcelona were beaten 2-0 by Bayern in last month’s Group C fix ture, a result that Xavi said was not a true reflection of the team’s talent.
But having won only one of their four matches in Europe this season, Xavi wants his team to show their true worth at Camp Nou on Wednesday. “We have to show ourselves that even if we are knocked out (Champions League) we are a good team and we can
compete against the best teams out there,” Xavi told a news conference on Tues day.
“That game in Munich was a disgrace because we deserved much more. That was an accident because we lacked the final touch. Even though Barcelona had more possession than Bayern and outshot them 18-13, the German side scored twice in four minutes against the run of play to secure the win.
Barca’s indifferent form in the competition has left them in danger of being eliminated early in the com petition as they are third in the standings with 4 points, 8 points behind leaders Bay ern and 3 behind secondplaced Inter Milan with two group matches remaining.

T20 WC: Australia hammer Sri Lanka by 7 wkts
PERTH, OCT 25 (PTI):
Marcus Stoinis destroyed the Sri Lankan attack en route to scoring the fastest fifty by an Australian as the hosts got their T20 World Cup campaign back on track with a seven-wicket victory here on Tuesday.
Charith Asalanka’s 38 not out off 25 balls helped Sri Lanka put up a fighting 157 for six after Australia put them in.
Sri Lanka fought hard before they were blown away by the brute force of Stoinis who remained on 59 off 18 balls as Australia romped home in 16.3 overs. The all-rounder raced to a record half-century in 17 balls. His memorable knock included half a dozen sixes and four boundaries.
Despite losing fast bowler Binura Fernando to injury in the first over, Sri Lanka kept themselves in the game for a major part of Australia’s chase.
The dangerous David Warner perished cheaply and skipper Aaron Finch was unable to break the shackles, increasing the pres sure on the hosts. Finch struggled to 24 off his first
35 balls and ended up with 31 off 42 balls.
Mitchell Marsh scored a run-a-ball 17 before Glenn Maxwell came up with a couple of sixes and fours in his 12-ball 23 to release some pressure. During his short stay, Maxwell suffered a nasty blow on the right side of helmet grill while try ing to pull a rising delivery from Lahiru Kumara.
The all-rounder fell at tempting another big hit but substitute Ashen Bandara took a brilliant catch very
close to the deep midwicket boundary to leave Sri Lanka at 89 for three in the 13th over. While Finch struggled at the other end, Stoinis came in and produced a bar rage of sixes and fours to effectively shut the door on Sri Lanka.
Stoinis, and the rest of the batters, targeted star Sri Lanka spinner Wanindu Hasaranga, who had a day to forget, leaking 53 runs in three overs. Earlier, de fending champions Austra lia produced a disciplined
I defend and provide balance to the team, says Man United’s Casemiro
LONDON, OCT 25 (IANS): Manchester Unit ed’s defender Casemiro said that his job is to defend and provide balance to the team. In a conversation with team mate Antony, the 30-yearold Brazilian professional footballer revealed that a goal here or there is nice but defending the team is the primary concern for him.
Five-time Champions League winner Casemiro joined the club from Real Madrid and scored his maid en goal for the Red Devils at Chelsea. The dramatic late equaliser came after a number of near-misses for the 30-year-old, despite tell ing the club’s official website that his primary concern is protecting the defence.
“I think the goals have to come naturally. Every body knows my work. My role is defensive -- to help my teammates and bring the ball out from the back with quality. I defend, first of all, and provide balance to the team. I help my teammates with defensive work, bring the ball out with quality, that is my job. Of course, a goal here or there is nice but doing my job and defending well comes first,” Casemiro
was quoted as saying by Manchester United’s official website.
However, while Ant ony joined Cristiano Ron aldo in marking his 700th club goal with the sleep ing celebration at Everton recently, the wide-man -speaking ahead of the Stam ford Bridge clash -- admitted it was unlikely Casemiro would have something spe cial planned for getting off the mark. Hence, the wild scenes that followed the
towering header from Luke Shaw’s cross may have been something of a surprise.
When asked if he had a celebration in mind, Case miro said, “As you know, I’m a bit more serious.”
Antony interjected, stating: “Casemiro is a more seri ous type” and the defensive midfielder repeated: “Yes, I’m more serious.”
Antony then explained how he views his club and international colleague’s role on the pitch.

Nadal to return at Paris Masters, says coach
LONDON,OCT 25 (AGENCIES): Rafael Nad al will return to competition at next week’s Paris Masters before taking his place at the season-ending ATP Finals, coach Carlos Moya said.
Nadal has struggled with injuries this year, cap turing his 14th French Open title while playing with painkilling injections to deal with a chronic foot injury and pulling out of Wimbledon due to an abdominal prob lem. Following his defeat to Frances Tiafoe at the U.S. Open in September he said he needed to “fix things” and was unsure about when he would play again.
The Spaniard, who has won a men’s record 22 Grand Slam titles, partnered Roger Federer in a doubles match at the Laver Cup last month before pulling out of the tournament.
He also took time off for the birth of his first child with wife Mery Perello on Oct. 8. Moya confirmed that Nadal would use the Masters 1000 event in Bercy, which the world number two has never won, as part of his preparations for the ATP’s finale in Turin from Nov. 13-20.
Mendis fell cheaply, Pathum Nissanka (40 off 45 balls) and Dhananjaya de Silva (26 off 23) shared a steady 69-run stand off 58 balls before regular fall of wick ets derailed the Sri Lankan innings.
De Silva fell to a bril liant running catch in the deep from David Warner, who was a livewire on the field, leaving Sri Lanka at 75 for two in the 12th over.
Nissanka attempted a suicidal single to throw away his wicket and it was fol lowed by a flurry of wickets to leave the Asia Cup win ners struggling at 120 for six.
All the Australian frontline pacers -- Josh Ha zlewood, Cummins and Mitchell Starc -- picked up a wicket each. Cummins’ final over effort spoilt his overall figures, though.
Brief scores: Sri Lanka 157/6 in 20 overs (Pathum Nissanka 40, Charith Asalanka 38 not out; Glenn Maxwell 1/5) lost to Aus tralia 158/3 in 16.3 Overs (Marcus Stoinis 59 not out, Aaron Finch 31 not out; Dhananjaya de Silva 1/18) by 7 wickets.

India beat Japan 5-1 at Sultan of Johor Cup
JOHOR (MALAYSIA),
OCT 25 (PTI): The Indian junior men’s hockey team returned to winning ways, beating Japan 5-1 at the Sultan of Johor Cup here on Tuesday.
Captain Uttam Singh (3’), Rohit (12’), Johnson Purty (21’), Boby Singh Dhami (31’) and Aman deep Lakra (51’) found the back of the net for India, while Ikumi Saeki (15’) scored the only goal for Japan.
After a delayed start, India got out of the blocks quickly, as Uttam Singh’s attempt beat the Japanese goalkeeper after a spell of domination. And even though Japan threatened with a couple of penalty corners right after that, India’s defence wasn’t al lowing them any space.
India absorbed the pressure from Japan, before Rohit fired home a penalty corner to give his side a 2-0 lead. However, just before the hooter, Japan pulled one back through Ikumi Saeki (15’), who converted a penalty corner to make it 2-1.
In the second quarter, both teams traded blows in the first few minutes before
