DIMAPUR, APR 26 (NPN): In retaliation to the ban imposed on transportation of timbers except saw products from Peren district to outside by civil society organisations of Peren district, Nagaland Timber Traders’ Union (NTTU) and its affiliated units on Tuesday resolved to impose economic blockade on Peren district starting from May 2, 2022. The decision to impose economic blockade was taken at the general body meeting of NTTU, Chümoukedima Timber Traders’ Association (CTTA) and Dimapur District Tim-

ber Mill Owners’ Association (DDTMOA) held in Dimapur on Tuesday. At the meeting, the house also decided that business establishments in Dimapur and Chümoukedima run by inhabitants of Peren “will not be allowed to operate.” The timber traders further decided to prohibit timber coming from Peren to other districts with effective from April 26, 2022. NTTU president, Kevise Sogotsu, CCTA president, Khenito Sumi and DDTMOA president, Mughato Yeptho alleged that CSOs of Peren without justification have banned transportation of round logs be-

yond Peren district without taking into consideration of the interest of members of NTTU, who have invested crores of rupees in purchasing/leasing timbers forest areas in pockets of Peren district. Earlier on December 6, 2021, NTTU, in a representation submitted to the deputy commissioner (DC) Peren, urged DC to issue directive to the Peren CSOs to pay back the invested amount of Rs. 6, 67, 55,709 together with interest @ 12% per annum to the timber traders within 15 days from the date of submission of the representation in the event of the Peren CSOs sticking to ban.

8 villages demand immediate start of PMGSY works DIMAPUR, APR 26 (NPN): Altogether eight villages-- Five villages under Tseminyü district (Sendenyu, New Sendenyu, Lotsüphen, Rümesinyu and Thongsünyu) and three village under Kohima district (Tsiemekhuma, Tsiemekhuma Basa and Botsa) have reiterated their demand for immediate start of BotsaSendenyu-via-Tsiemekhuma road construction under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY). In a joint press statement, council chairman of eight villages stated that as per the guideline for the PMGSY, any habitation with above 500 population

in the hilly areas should be connected with all-weather roads. However, they expressed dismay that eight villages having a total population of over 5000 still remained to be connected with all-weather road. The council chairmen said that the government sanctioned upgradation of PWD Road covering 19 km from Botsa to Sendenyuvia- Tsiemekhuma under PMGSY during 2018-19. However, due to the litigation case filed by Imti Ao, proprietor of M/S Trident Enterprise, they said that the work has been put on hold till date making the sanctioned road liable to be

lapsed if not completed by September 2022. As per the Court order, the signatories said the department had floated a fresh NIT for retender of the same work vide Order No. CE/R&B/PMGSY-II/TENDER/2019-20 Dated 03/11/2021. However, they said that the petitioner M/S Trident Enterprise did not participate in the said re-tender for the reasons best known to them. However, after closing of the said Tender, the Petitioner M/S Trident Enterprise stopped the department from issuing Work Order for the said work by producing the Court Order dated 30/11/2021. The

signatories said that while the Petitioner M/S Trident Enterprise had no interest in taking up the said contract work, it was “clear that the Petitioner has a sadistic intent of depriving development for the undersigned poor remote villages.” Therefore, the villages cautioned the petitioner and implementing department that in the event of failure to implement the said road due to litigation case on question, the public would be constrained to take up their own course of action to redress their right, for which, the petitioner and the department will be solely held responsible.

Nagaland unit has flagged poor civic amenities in the State and urged the government to resolve them immediately. Referring to flood and water-logging in Dimapur and its adjoining areas due to incessant rains recently, the party in a statement alleged that due to poor drainage system and lack of proper planning by the authorities, the general public were at the receiving end having to fend for themselves due to little or no help from the government. It also accused the departments concerned of lacking in coordination among themselves. The party cited poor drainage system, improper planning

for construction as the primary reasons for the present problem of clogging of drains and inundation in the town. NPP claimed that enough funds had been released for flood control, though there was no sign of the funds being properly utilised. Mentioning that Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai had stated in Rajya Sabha that Nagaland had been allocated Rs 46 crore for 2021-22 under SDRF/SDRMF, including State share, and another Rs 16.40 crore as Centre’s share of SDRF/SDRMF, NPP demanded to know what had happened to the funds released by the Centre.
