(NPN): Two days after chief minister Neiphiu Rio held a consultative meeting with the non-Naga communities of Dimapur to deliberate on the Inner Line Permit (ILP) issue, PHE and cooperation minister Jacob Zhimomi reiterated the stand of the government on implementation of ILP. Jacob said this while speaking as the special guest at the 40th general conference of the Western Sumi Hoho (WSH) at WSH Hiyam, Chekiye under the theme “Friendship and Unity”.
Expressing serious concern over the increasing number of illegal immigrants in the State, Jacob said that they (illegal immigrants) have already started to interfere in the society’s social fabric and livelihood. Therefore, he said the State
would be in utter chaos if there was no rule of law.
He therefore reminded that the provision (BEFR 1873), which was already in place, was being implemented to protect and safeguard the future and identity of the Nagas, and for this he sought the cooperation of all. He further pointed out that the state government has come out with two cut-off years-- 1963 and 1979 under which the ILP regime would be enforced.
He mentioned that non-Nagas who had been residing and owning lands
before statehood (1963) can own landed property but can only sell to indigenous Naga inhabitants of the state. Jacob further said that non-Nagas who settled on or before December 1,1963 cannot be eligible to obtain indigenous certificates but would be eligible for permanent residential certificate (PRC). Those who have settled after the Statehood (1963-1979), would be eligible for PRC and ILP including those who have settled after 1979, he said. He further said the state government has listed out various categories like labourers, tourist missionaries, professors, traders and students etc. covered under the ILP regime with fixed fees and time duration. The minister further said that for any non-Naga employee seeking to work in Nagaland, the employer would be the guarantor.

NEW DELHI, MAY 27 (IANS): China is soon likely to become the world’s first country with oral insulin availability.
After successfully completing Phase III trials of oral insulin, China’s Hefei Tianhui Biotechnology (HTIT) submitted a marketing authorisation application (MAA) to the country’s National Medical Products Administration. Oramed’s US-based ORA-D-013-1 Phase III trial for the treatment of Type 2 diabetes showed significant lowering of A1C levels, which reflects the average blood sugar
level for the past two to three months. HTIT is a strategic partner of Israeli company Oramed Pharmaceuticals.
“Oral insulin is a paradigm shift from the traditional injectable insulin market. Therefore, there would be a lot of opportunities and challenges in the commercialisation of oral insulins,” said Prashant Khadayate, Pharma Analyst at GlobalData, in a statement. “Even though insulin delivery through injections has improved significantly for patients, compliance is always an issue for injectable forms of insulin. Hence,
oral insulin will always be preferred, potentially reducing the discomfort associated with injections and thereby, improving overall compliance, provided it is equally effective in terms of efficacy and safety. Notably, it is difficult to comment on its efficacy and safety with injectable insulins as Phase III trials included only placebo,” Khadayate added.
In November 2015, HTIT in-licensed exclusive rights to Oramed’s oral insulin ORMD-0801 in China, Hong Kong, and Macau. On the contrary, its partner Oramed terminated its oral
insulin clinical trial activities in the US in T2D following disappointing results of the Phase III ORA-D-013-1 trial in January 2023. Back in July 2006, Pfizer launched the world’s first inhaled insulin, Exubera, but barely a year later, it withdrew Exubera from the market as it was not commercially successful. “A new mode of insulin delivery is always appreciated... Since, oral insulin is a new form of insulin delivery, HTIT and Oramed should develop an effective commercial strategy to make it successful in the market,” Khadayate said.

TSL condemns attack on Tangkhul women
DIMA PUR, MAY 27
(NPN): The Tangkhul Shanao Long ( TSL) (Association of all Tangkhul women) has condemn the May 24 incident at Kwaikeithel bazaar Imphal, where four of its members were assaulted by a mob on their way to the airport to travel to Mumbai.
A press release by Tangkhul Shanao Long president Thingreiphi Lungharwoshi stated that after their vehicle stopped in the traffic congestion, a mob consisting of both men and women attacked them with iron bars.
Narrating the harrowing ordeal, the release stated that they were dragged down from the vehicle by their hair and their clothes, including their undergarments, were ripped. To save themselves, the girls shouted they are Tangkhul,
but the mob responded with words like You Nagas, You killers.
Their belongings were checked, strewn and their bags were ripped apart.
They were then taken to a secluded place and released after they were traumatized physically and mentally. After such harrowing experience, they were stopped again by armed persons and threatened by loading and unloading their guns.
They were allowed to go only when they pleaded they are from Ukhrul. The women are being treated at Health Care Diagnostic Centre Mumbai, the release added.
The Tangkhul Shanao Long said it is appalled at such carnage and an at unprecedented time where “women are active actors and agents of violence and
even abetting their men to commit heinous crime and acts of violating tribal women.”
Tangkhul Shanao Long said is shocking that the “streets are still ruled by mobs and tribals are unsafe in Imphal city even in broad daylight.”
The Tangkhul Shanao Long also condemns the attempt of COCOMI superficially apologizing that there was confusion in the identity as if it is alright to attack other lives and people.
This communal attack on any identity and ethnic group should stop.
Earlier in the evening of the day, around 4.30 pm, another around 30 houses at Phaobakchao Awang Leikai, another village in the interdistrict were torched by the miscreants.
There were no reports of casualty as the villages had already abandoned their homesteads after most of the houses were torched in the initial stage of the violence. The miscreants torched the houses while the state security forces were engaging in gun fights with the suspected militants in the neighboring villages, the report said.
AIZAWL, MAY 27 (PTI): Hundreds of people took part in a rally in Mizoram’s capital Aizawl on Saturday, expressing solidarity with the tribals of Manipur who have been affected by violence.
The rally was organised by the Zo Re-Unification Organisation (ZORO), which seeks the re-unification of all Zo people -- Chin-Kuki-Mizo-Zomi -- under one administrative setup.
ZORO general secretary L Ramdinliana Renthlei said Mizo youths from Mizoram will step out to defend their brethren in Manipur if they continue to face atrocities.
The rally passed several resolutions, including measures to be taken for the re-unification of ethnic Zo tribes to bring them under one administrative setup through peaceful means.
The army cordon moved in slowly as darkness set in over the village of New Keithelmanbi some 40 km from the capital Imphal, surrounded on all sides by a dense forest.
The army and Assam Rifles personnel who had swooped down on the village in Kangpokpi district on the edge of the Imphal valley on Friday, were searching for arms.
“In the last few days, we have observed that communities are attacking each other with firearms. In some cases, people are being killed … This sudden emergence of arms is delaying the entire peace process,” a senior Army official told PTI.
In the surprise raid to New Keithelmanbi village, where this PTI correspondent accompanied troopers,
a country made pipe gun and huge cache of explosives were recovered along with one air gun and blank packet of cartridge. Armed vigilante groups have been taking the law into their own hands in parts of Manipur, in the wake of ethnic rioting earlier, thus complicating the peace process. At times, militant groups have joined in the fray, creating an even more volatile cocktail of ethnic tension.
On condition of anonymity, the army officer said that they are now concentrating on stopping such elements which are threatening the return of normalcy to the state. “Indian Army and Assam Rifles have decided to carry out surprise search operations on villages of different communities. We are not targeting any one
particular community. “Our aim is to stop that one individual in the entire village who is threatening the other community by carrying arms. We are seizing such weapons and also apprehending them,” said the official, who was sent to Manipur after violence erupted earlier this month. Talking about Friday’s operations, the official said that New Keithelmanbi village is adjacent to National Highway-37, which is the only lifeline to Manipur at this moment. “We had reports that people in the village have firearms and explosives. Our prime objective is to protect the highway so that no untoward incident can take place there. Around 250 trucks are using this road every day, carrying essential supplies.

Kezo (IPS, Retd.) Principal Chairman, Managing Board AcademyCong questions govt on economy, national security
GUWAHATI, MAY 27 (PTI): Senior Congress leader Ajay Maken on Saturday accused the Narendra Modi government of “compromising” on national security, using “politics of hatred” for electoral gains, and “weakening” constitutional values and democratic institutions.
The Congress on Friday had said it would hold press conferences, titled ‘Nau Saal, Nau Sawaal’ (nine years, nine questions), in 35 cities over the next few days to highlight the “failures” of the Central government in the last nine years.
Accusing Modi of not addressing important issues, the grand old party asserted that it will continue to play the role of a responsible opposition and hold the government accountable for its actions.
Addressing a press conference here, Maken said, “As the Modi government completes nine years in power, the Congress has nine questions and we want to know their response.
“We know that they don’t want to address serious issues like unemployment, price rise and will rather try to divert attention to frivolous matters.”
With inflation and unemployment featuring
in the nine questions, the Congress asked “Why is public property being sold to Modi’s friends even as economic disparities are increasing?”
The Congress alleged that “rampant corruption” was prevailing in BJP-ruled states, the saffron party was “practising politics of revenge” against opposition parties and “weakening” Constitutional values and democratic institutions.
The Congress also accused the BJPled Central government of “compromising” on national security and “leaving” Indian territory to China.
The party claimed that the government failed to keep the assurances made to farmers, especially those regarding doubling their income.
The Congress maintained that the ruling dispensation is “deliberately using politics of hatred
Three RAF personnel nabbed for torching meat shop in Mnp

IMPHAL, MAY 27:
Amid people’s demand for withdrawal of the Central security forces for their alleged “bias” in dealing with the situation, Manipur police on Saturday arrested three personnel of the Rapid Action Force (RAF) for allegedly setting a meat shop on fire in Imphal on Friday night.

for electoral gains”, “methodically destroying foundations of social justice”, reducing budgets of welfare schemes, and enacting “restrictive rules” against the poor and tribals.
The Congress also accused the government of “mismanagement” during the COVID-19 pandemic and failing to compensate families who lost their near and dear ones to coronavirus.
Maken also pointed out that the prime minister has failed to address a single press conference in the last nine years.
“We are not hopeful that he will answer these nine questions we have raised. But as a responsible opposition, it is our duty to raise the questions and tell the people the issues on which the government needs to come forth with their response,” the All India Congress Committee general secretary added.
In a quick response, the CRPF authority in New Delhi has placed the three RAF personnel belonging to the 103 battalion CRPF under suspension from their services pending an inquiry.
They were among a large number of RAF personnel deployed in the state after the ethnic violence hit the state on May 3.
Commandant
Dharmendra Singh of the 103 battalion RAF/CRPF placed the three personnel under suspension from their services, contemplating an inquiry against them.
During the suspension period, they will remain in force at the battalion headquarters at New Delhi, the order that was made available to the media stated.
The three RAF personnel allegedly torched a meat shop located only a few meters away from Tribal Market where a mob set a house on fire after some miscreants threatened vendors and shopkeepers at the Tribal Market on May 22 last. Friday night’s arson
The locals, however, prevented the fire from inflicting major damages by dousing the fire before it spread to other shops and houses. The shop was partially damaged.
A tension brewing up in the locality after the incident was, however, subsided after the local MLA Th Arunkumar calmed the locals and leaders of the Kabui based CSOs.
The torched shop belonged to a person belonging to the Kabui community. He interacted with the Kabui residents of the locality at Dimthailong Community hall and calmed the people while informing that the arrested three RAF personnel were suspended from their services, in a prompt action.
On Saturday, a sitin-protest was staged at various places across the state demanding abrogation of suspension of operation (SoO) truce with the Kuki militants, withdrawal of Central security forces and to safeguard the territorial integrity of Manipur.

Deadlier than the first
World Health Organisation (WHO) Director General Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus warned that the world must prepare for a virus that is “even deadlier” than Covid which has killed at least 20 million. While declaring the end of the pandemic, Dr.Tedros, warned of the threat of another variant emerging that causes new surges of disease and death remains, and the threat of another pathogen emerging with even deadlier potential remains. This is not a very reassuring message since it is largely believed that vaccines have more or less greatly minimised the threat from the virus. It was cold comfort when global media reported that China is bracing for a new wave of Covid infections that could see as many as 65 million cases per week by the time the surge peaks at the end of June. This was another shocking news that a country that appeared to have managed to contain the spread of the pandemic originated in late 2019, that only months ago had enforced some of the harshest Covid control protocols on the planet is going to face another serious crisis. Now, with the latest omicron variant, XBB, fuelling a resurgence in cases, the response from China’s government and the public is muted at best. The new wave’s data was revealed by respiratory disease specialist Zhong Nanshan at a medical conference this week in the southern city of Guangzhou. According to state media, the wave that started in late April was “anticipated,” and that the modelling suggested China could be approaching 40 million infections per week.
Zhong Nanshan said by the end of June, the weekly number of infections will peak at 65 million. During China’s first omicron wave in December and January 2019, a different omicron variant was infecting millions of people every day, overwhelming hospitals and crematoriums in cities across the country. Store shelves were emptied of fever medications and schools were shut down. If the outbreak simply does not end, then declaring a time point at which “it’s over” is understandably tricky. As the WHO indicate in their recent statement, there needs to be a continued focus on COVID beyond any defined end of the public health emergency. This focus must remain even as countries consider how to mainstream their disease control into more routine public health and health service infrastructure. The fact is that COVID pandemic may never be over. However, the public health threat of this virus should continue to decline. The need to learn lessons from this pandemic ahead of the inevitable next time is essential. History has shown us that infectious diseases have the capacity to evolve and emerge unpredictably. Scientists had predicted that the next virus will be deadlier but it is possible that it may have already arrived but the world is yet to recognise it and when it does it could be too late.

The Life To Know Him
…tarry in the city of Jerusalem until you are endued with power from on high. —Luke 24:49
The disciples had to tarry, staying in Jerusalem until the day of Pentecost, not only for their own preparation but because they had to wait until the Lord was actually glorified. And as soon as He was glorified, what happened? “Therefore being exalted to the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, He poured out this which you now see and hear” (Acts 2:33). The statement in John 7:39— “…for the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified”— does not pertain to us. The Holy Spirit has been given; the Lord is glorified— our waiting is not dependent on the providence of God, but on our own spiritual fitness.
The Holy Spirit’s influence and power were at work before Pentecost, but He was not here. Once our Lord was glorified in His ascension, the Holy Spirit came into the world, and He has been here ever since. We have to receive the revealed truth that He is here. The attitude of receiving and welcoming the Holy Spirit into our lives is to be the continual attitude of a believer. When we receive the Holy Spirit, we receive reviving life from our ascended Lord.
It is not the baptism of the Holy Spirit that changes people, but the power of the ascended Christ coming into their lives through the Holy Spirit. We all too often separate things that the New Testament never separates. The baptism of the Holy Spirit is not an experience apart from Jesus Christ— it is the evidence of the ascended Christ.
The baptism of the Holy Spirit does not make you think of time or eternity— it is one amazing glorious now. “This is eternal life, that they may know You…” (John 17:3). Begin to know Him now, and never finish.
By Oswald ChambersBeing ambivalent about faith-based terrorism is harmful
Amidst the continuing danger posed to national security by the Pakinstigated radicalisation and terrorism, many academicians and even some major think tanks are underplaying the problem by suggesting that since terrorism had still not been ‘defined’ it was not possible to properly assess it - in the Indian context they are only diverting attention from the doings of a hostile neighbour that was now hand in glove with China for stepping up anti-India operations.
These analysts do acknowledge that firm adherence to religion could enlarge into fanaticism and that advocacy of fundamentalism was in reaction to the gradual erosion of religion’s erstwhile preeminence in social and political spheres. They are thus aware that a strong injection of religion in the political domain is what presaged the rise of the new global terror. What these scholars leave unsaid however, is that Islam is one religion that made no distinction between faith and politics on the plea that Islam embraced all aspects of human life - personal, socio-political and even economic - and that more than in any other religion it made it easier for the forces behind terrorism to manipulate Islamic faith for enrolling militants - after converting their minds in the name of Jehad.
Further, Islamic extremism is the broad umbrella under which faith-based terrorism was nourished by those who wanted to use it as an instrument of politics.
Communal militancy giving rise to domestic hate crimes is a different malady requiring an effective socio-political and legal response and is not to be mixed up with terrorism that has, in the Indian context, a cross-border input and a geopolitical dimension.
The apologists of the new global terrorthat was rooted in the exploitation of faithare raising an academic discussion around the ‘definition’ of terrorism describing it as both a ‘tactic’ and a ‘doctrine’, and while noting the role of a ‘political goal’ behind terrorism, watering down the ambit of terrorist violence by suggesting that it was confined to ‘direct attacks on non-combatants and civilians’. This is a bookish interpretation since terrorism essentially is a ‘resort to covert
violence for a perceived political cause’ and it can take recourse to such violence in innovative ways.
Terrorists indulge in surreptitious violence since the might of the state would be able to thwart an open attack. Also, without a ‘political cause’ terrorism would be reduced to sheer criminality which is certainly not the case. Wherever there is a question of ‘cause’ there has to be a ‘commitment’ which in turn is determined by ‘motivation’.
Now ‘motivation’ can be ‘ideological’ as was the case with Naxalism or an assertion of ethnic identity as was noticed in insurgencies of the North East in the Indian context. The new terror, however, is rooted in ‘faith-based’ motivation which in the case of Islam could be really strong if the call of ‘religion in danger’ or ‘protection of the faithful’ could be whipped up. Terrorism takes on State targets as well and does not only attack the civilian population - which it does of course for creating political destabilisation.
Terrorism facing India is an instrument of ‘proxy war’ that Pakistan - presently in an all-weather alliance with China - has been waging in Kashmir and elsewhere in the country. The new faith-based terror is now operating on a geopolitical scale too because its origins lay in the antiWest Jehad launched by some prominent Ulema in the 19th century on the Indian subcontinent and elsewhere, that unleashed ‘radicalisation’.
In the proxy war against India, Pak ISI had used Islamic extremist outfits under its control - such as Hizbul Mujahideen, Lashkare Toiba and Jaishe Mohammadas an instrument of terrorism earlier but it was also subsequently able to induct Islamic radicals like those of Al Qaeda, Taliban and ISIS in covert attacks against this country. These latter outfits found shelter in Pakistan- deemed to be a US ally - even though the US-led West was the prime enemy of Islamic radicals in the Global War on Terror launched by the US in the wake of 9/11.
Many ‘experts’ on global terror miss the point that within the world of Islamic extremism, there are two distinct streams - one of the Islamic radicals who are ‘revivalists’ carrying the historical memory of the
anti-British Jehad waged by the Wahhabi Ulema in India in the middle of the 19th century on the call of return to the pristine Islam of the period of Pious Caliphs and the other appearing later in the 20th century that was led by Islamic thinkers like Hasan Al Banna who advocated that ‘Quran is the best Constitution’ but also held that an Islamic state could live ‘in competition not conflict’ with the Western democracies.
The Wahhabis contented that the political decline of Islam was attributable to the deviation of Muslim rulers from the mandate of the faith. It is significant that Darul Uloom Deoband established by the protagonists of this Jehad - after its failure against the superior British might - devotes itself to the non-political work of teaching pure Islam but even today carries an antiWest ethos.
On the other hand, the other fundamentalist Islamic force that arose in the region of Iraq and Syria in the name of Ikhwanul Musalmeen (Muslim Brotherhood) founded by Hasan Al Banna, devoted to launching a militant campaign against the proSoviet Arab regimes of Nasser and Hafiz Saeed and called for a return to an Islamic rule. This was appreciated by the US for obvious reasons.
Soon Maulana Maudoodi - an admirer of Hasan Al Banna - created Jamaate Islami at Lahore with the same anti-Communist and pro-West ideology.
Some Islamic specialists erroneously paint Muslim Brotherhood as a ‘radical movement’ with the same brush as was used for describing the Wahabbi legacy represented today by the Taliban, Al Qaeda and ISIS. Radicalisation received a fillip in recent times because of the USled ‘war on terror’ that was started first in Afghanistan and then in Iraq and which was essentially a combat between US-led West and Islamic radicals.
Notably, the rise of Taliban-Al Qaeda combined in the AfghanPak region was later matched by ISIS - a competing radical force that came up in the IraqSyria belt. India’s security concerns have multiplied because Pakistan has manoeuvred to cultivate radical outfits while retaining the goodwill of the US.
In fact, by pretending to mediate between the
Taliban and the US in the talks held to facilitate the withdrawal of American troops from Afghanistan, Pakistan earned the goodwill of the US and at the same time ensured the reinstallation of the Taliban Emirate at Kabul to its great strategic advantage against India.
Pak ISI is now using both Islamic extremists and Islamic radicals in its proxy war against India using terrorism as its instrument. Al Qaeda and ISIS proxies based in Pakistan have been floated for this purpose.
A new challenge has risen for India’s Intelligence agencies because of the organised use of social media by Pak ISI to surreptitiously reach out to its potential agents, recruit ‘lone wolves’ for terror operations and tap civil society groups for building anti-India narratives on Kashmir as well as on alleged lack of protection for Muslim minority under the present regime.
Those behind the raising of terrorists often play the card of ‘supremacism’ of faith that acted as a ‘pull’ factor in regard to ‘motivation’. The Sino-Pak axis has added a new dimension to India’s national security in which external threats are causing internal destabilisation because of the planned attempt of the two hostile neighbours to fish in our troubled waters.
Pakistan is openly fanning the HinduMuslim divide in India and instigating communal militancy so that it could facilitate the recruitment of potential terrorists.
The recently banned Popular Front of India (PFI) - known to have been spreading radicalisation and working for ISIS - was linked also to SIMI, a front of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, that was banned earlier after it had attracted notice for creating a terrorist body called Indian Mujahideen in the early Twenties this year. Pak ISI has thus been exploiting various Islamic extremist and radical outfits to create trouble for India. Radicalisation is a geopolitical danger but is a prime threat to the security of India on account of the mischief potential of Pakistan, Taliban domination of Afghanistan and the support of China to Pakistan on the issue of Kashmir.
India has done well to highlight the threat of terrorism at every international forum and expose the danger
facing the democratic world as a whole from the Sino- Pak combine - an alliance between a Marxist dictatorship and a fundamentalist regime.
India has done well to maintain that Pakistan was behind cross-border terrorism against India and avoid any bilateral contact with Zardari, Pak Foreign Minister, who had come to attend the SCO meet at Goa recently.
A significant geopolitical development relating to the Muslim world is the increasing influence of radical stream in West Asia and its anti-West positioning in the Cold War type of polarisation that was developing between the US on one side and the ChinaRussia camp on the other.
Saudi Arabia with its pronounced fundamentalism has been the chief supporter of the US in the Islamic world but it had invited the wrath of radicals precisely for its political alignment. Its conflict with Yemen symbolised this ideological contradiction within the Islamic world.
The radical Islamic rule of Taliban-Al Qaeda in Afghanistan is politically on the same side of the fence as China and this certainly helped Pakistan in evolving a ‘give and take’ between the Kabul Emirate and Xi Jinping whereby no controversies would be raised about the minorities in China and China would make an economic investment in Afghanistan.
Somewhat similar has been the equation of restraint between Afghanistan and the Central Asian Republics(CARs) that were still under the influence of RussiaPakistan was aware that Russia was averse to any spread of Islamic extremism in its former territories.
Equally important is the case of Iran under the fundamentalist regime of Ayatollahs. Shia extremism is ideologically averse to Western Capitalism and Caliph Ali is even said to have glorified ‘poverty’. Opposition to the US puts Iran and China on the same side of the geopolitical divide and it does not come as too much of a surprise that Xi Jinping has tried to mediate between Iran and Saudi Arabia, two countries with an opposing outlook on world politics.
Saudi Arabia as the Chairman of the Organisation of Islamic Conference (OIC) has
been realising for some time, however, that a group within - comprising Pakistan, Turkey and Malaysia - was prepared to consider Islamic radicals as a legitimate segment of the spectrum of Islam and not discard them just because of their opposition to the US-led West.
Call for a return to the ‘golden period’ of Islam had always held its own appeal in the Muslim world and Islamic radicals were great advocates of this ‘revivalism’.
India has to deal with Islamic extremism and radicalisation considering its national interests. Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Iran are to be given special attention by India independently in order to handle the cross currents currently sweeping the Muslim world.
At home, the spread of radicalisation has to be checked through a multi-prong strategy of enhancing the state’s outreach to the sections of the minority that wanted peace and harmony, stepping up action against potential Pak agents and curbing the funding of terrorism.
In today’s situation, India’s internal security has become highly vulnerable to the effects of civil society groups with vested interests joining hands with international lobbies led by Pakistan, to spread the narrative of alleged lack of protection for Muslim minority under the present regime.
Minority politics is also in full swing as political parties realised the importance of their votes in the crucial elections ahead. Sectional appeals for votes would be a part of the game provided they did not encourage ‘separatism’ which in the Indian context would raise an alarm because of the legacy of history.
Minority politics could generate militancy of a kind that would feed terrorist violence under the instigation of India’s hostile neighbours.
Indian democracy must continue to derive strength from a healthy sense of nationalism of all its citizens regardless of class, creed or region- in keeping with the mandate of ‘one man one vote’ on which it was conceived.
It should be remembered that the Preamble to our Constitution itself appeals to all citizens to work for the ‘Nation’.

Beekeeping for a successful sweet revolution
People from urban areas are buying honey from the market but many may not have seen bees’ everyday.
We must remember that we all depend on the survival of bees but the irony is that bees and other pollinators, such as butterflies, bats and hummingbirds, are increasingly under threat from human activities.
Nearly 90% of the world’s wild flowering plant species depend, entirely, or at least in part, on animal pollination, along with more than 75% of the world’s food crops and 35% of global agricultural land. To raise awareness of the importance of pollinators, the threats they face and their contribution to sustainable development, the UN designated 20 May as World Bee Day.
Bees and other pollinators are fundamental for the health of ecosystems and food
security. They help maintain biodiversity and ensure the production of nutritious food. There is no doubt that bees are under threat. Present species extinction rates are 100 to 1,000 times higher than normal due to human impacts. Close to 35 percent of invertebrate pollinators, particularly bees and butterflies, and about 17 percent of vertebrate pollinators, such as bats, face extinction globally.
If this trend continues, nutritious crops, such as fruits, nuts and many vegetable crops will be substituted increasingly by staple crops like rice, corn and potatoes, eventually resulting in an imbalanced diet. One of the career or business opportunities can be apiculture . Beekeeping or apiculture is the maintenance of bee colonies, commonly in man-made beehives. Honey bees in the genus Apis are the most commonly kept species
but other honey producing bees such as Melipona stingless bees are also kept. Beekeepers (or apiarists) keep bees to collect honey and other products of the hive: beeswax, propolis, bee pollen, and royal jelly. Pollination of crops, raising queens, and production of package bees for sale are other sources of beekeeping income. Bee hives are kept in an apiary or “bee yard”.
The keeping of bees by humans, primarily for honey production, began around 10,000 years ago. Georgia is known as the “cradle of beekeeping” and the oldest honey ever found comes from that country. The 5,500-year-old honey was unearthed from the grave of a noblewoman during archaeological excavations in 2003 near the town Borjomi. Ceramic jars found in the grave contained several types of honey, including linden and
flower honey. Domestication of bees can be seen in Egyptian art from around 4,500 years ago; there is also evidence of beekeeping in ancient China, Greece, and Maya.
To promote beekeeping in India we have the National Bee Board and National Beekeeping and Honey Mission. Khadi & Village Industries Commission also promotes activities related to bees in the country. At KVIC through its Central Bee Research & Training Institute (CBRTI), 15 State Beekeeping Extension centers (SBEC), 100 registered institutions, Cooperatives and State Khadi and Village Industries Boards undertake training programs throughout the country. Few training includes Diploma in Beekeeping (6 months) for which required qualification is B. Sc. (Biology/ Agri. / Forestry). There are other courses for which required
academic qualification is either 10th pass or even without academic qualifications. The courses are Certificate course in Beekeeping, Rock-bee handling, Elementary Beekeeping, Short term course in beekeeping, Queen Rearing, pollination, bee pathology, CF Sheet, etc, Honey Processing, Analysis of honey, there are few tailor made or customized training programs according to need and demand , Training in Honey Testing Kit, etc .
Young people can be part of the sweet revolution and get engaged in beekeeping and honey production. Interested people may take up the required training and plan their future with apiculture. We must protect bees as they are important for us so getting engaged means earning and saving at the same time which would enhance sustainable development.

CMs skip NITI Aayog meet; ‘losing out’: Govt
NEW DELHI, MAY 27 (AGENCIES): Eleven
Chief Ministers are skipping the NITI Aayog Council meeting presided over by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi today. Rajasthan’s Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has cited health reasons for not attending, and Kerala’s Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has not given any specific reason for his absence.
Arvind Kejriwal wrote to the PM on Friday, announcing his boycott of the meeting over the Centre’s recent ordinance, and charged that cooperative federalism in the country was being turned into a “joke”. The controversial ordinance by the BJP-led Centre effectively cancels a May 11 Supreme Court order that granted the Delhi government executive control over the bureaucracy.
Punjab’s Bhagwant Mann has written a note to the Centre saying it’s not paying attention to Punjab’s
interests, which is why he will boycott the meeting.
In the previous meeting, in August last year, the Chief Minister had raised the issues of Rural Development Fund (RDF), stubble burning, and farmers’ concerns which he says the Centre paid no attention to. Calling it a mere “photo session”, Mr Mann in his note has said there’s no use in participating in the meeting until pending issues have been addressed.
Three other prominent Opposition leaders -- Telangana’s K Chandrashekar
Rao, West Bengal’s Mamata Banerjee and Bihar’s Nitish Kumar -- who have been trying to stitch together a grand united Opposition front to counter the BJP in next year’s Lok Sabha elections, are also skipping the meeting.
Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, who maintains a calculated distance from both the NDA and the Opposition, was also absent from the meeting. According to the Chief Minister’s Office, Mr Patnaik did not attend the meeting as he has a prior programme.
India on its way to become world’s 3rd largest economy: Niti Aayog CEO
NEW DELHI, MAY
27
(IANS) Following its governing council meeting on Saturday, Niti Aayog CEO B.V.R. Subrahmanyam said that India is on its way to become the world’s third largest economy in a couple of years, as the country is at a take-off point at the moment.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who chaired the meeting, also urged the all the stakeholders to grab the opportunities, adding that the aspiration of ‘Viksit Bharat’ is not the vision of an individual or a small group, but it is the vision of
India that “we will have to conceive and fulfil”.
Addressing the media after the eighth governing council meeting of the Niti Aayog, Subrahmanyam said, “The theme was Viksit Bharat. Why was it chosen? Because India should be prepared for the next 25 years and we will be a developed nation in the next 25 years. Why is Viksit Bharat so important at this point? It is important because India is at a take-off moment.
“We are not only the largest country by population, but also the fifth largest economy. The fifth is going

Jawaharlal Nehru’s legacy stands tall: Rahul’s tribute to India’s 1st PM
“11 Chief Ministers didn’t attend the meeting. But several other Chief Ministers did. I have seen similar attendance in previous NITI Aayog Governing Council meetings. They might have their personal reasons,” NITI Aayog CEO BVR Subrahmanyam was quoted saying by news agency ANI. The BJP said the missing Chief Ministers did not bring the voice of the people to a crucial planning meeting, where over a hundred issues were listed to be discussed. NITI Aayog is a significant platform to evolve a shared vision of national development priorities, sectors and strategies with the active involvement of states, it said, adding that it’s an important body for determining the entire policy-framework and the road map for the development of the entire country.
“NITI Aayog is very important for the development and planning of the
country. 100 issues have been fixed for this meeting, and the Chief Ministers who have not come are not bringing the voice of the people of their state here. How far will you go to protest against Modi?” BJP leader and former Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said.
Government sources have said boycotting NITI Aayog Governing Council Meetings by Chief Ministers is equal to boycotting the state’s development. More than a hundred important issues will be discussed at the Governing Council Meeting (GCM), and states not being represented will lose out, sources said.
Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut has said if non-BJP Chief Ministers are boycotting the meeting, it means the Centre is not treating them properly. “Whoever is not obeying the Centre, the NITI Aayog is not listening to their demands,” he said.

NEW DELHI, MAY 27
(PTI): The Congress on Saturday paid rich tributes to Jawaharlal Nehru on his death anniversary with former party chief Rahul Gandhi saying the legacy of the country’s first prime minister stands tall like a beacon, illuminating the idea of India and values of freedom and democracy.
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and
Gandhi also visited Nehru’s memorial at the Shanti Van and paid floral tributes to him. Senior leaders KC Venugopal and Pawan Bansal were among those present at the memorial.
Several party leaders paid tributes on social media to the Congress stalwart. Born in 1889, Nehru remains India’s longest-serving prime minister. He was prime minister between
August 1947 and May 1964. He passed away on May 27, 1964.
“India of the 21st century cannot be imagined without the contribution of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru,” Kharge said in a tweet in Hindi.
A fearless defender of democracy, his progressive ideas strongly propelled India’s social, political and economic development despite challenges, the Congress president said. “My humble tribute to ‘Hind ke Jawahar’,” he said. Paying tributes to the former prime minister, Gandhi in a tweet said Nehru’s legacy stands tall, like a beacon, illuminating the idea of India and the values he dedicated his life for –freedom, democracy, secularism and modernity. “His vision and values always guide our conscience and actions,” Mr Gandhi said and tagged an audio-visual montage on Nehru.
The complaint seeks appropriate action against the accused parties for their alleged actions which according to him is an offence under section 121, 153A, 505 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code.
“I am filing this complaint against Congress president Kharge and Kejriwal, CM Delhi, and others who have made provocative, inflammatory, derogatory, and inciting statements with the sole motive of promoting enmity between the community by mentioning the caste of the President of India.
“Recently I have seen many prominent leaders in media reports making provocative statements by referring to the caste of our Hon’ble President of India regarding the event of the Inauguration of the new Parliament building.
FPIs inflow hits 9-month high in May
NEW DELHI, MAY 27 (AGENCIES): Foreign portfolio investors (FPIs)
continued to buy in Indian equities for the entire month of May as of now. An inflow of Rs. 37,317 crore has been recorded till May 26th, which is the highest investment in nine months by FPIs. Foreign investors have been buyers across sectors with massive investment pumped in financial services stocks. The trend in FPIs is likely to continue ahead, which does bring a possible case for the Nifty 50 to touch a new record high.
According to a report by Mint, as per the NSDL data, FPIs inflow in Indian equities comes to Rs.37,317 crore from May 1st to 26th. This is not just the highest monthly buying of 2023, but also the highest since November last year.
Dr. VK Vijayakumar, Chief Investment Strategist at Geojit Financial Services said, “FPIs have been buyers across sectors.
They invested in sectors like automobiles, capital goods, health care, Oil & gas, and telecom. Massive buying was witnessed in financial services, particularly banking.”
Furthermore, Vijayakumar pointed out that the sustained buying by FPIs lifted the Nifty by 2.4% in May.
India is among the best-performing markets like Japan, Taiwan, South Korea, and Brazil while other markets, both developed and emerging, are struggling.
In the trading week that ended on May 26th, Sensex climbed by 588.13 points or 0.95% but Nifty 50 outperformed with an upside of 248.75 points or 1.36%.
Currently, Sensex is at 62,501.69 and Nifty 50 at 18,499.35.

The latest CPI inflation print ( 4.7% in April) has come as a shot in the arm for markets. It is a clear indication that interest rates have peaked in India.
In this favourable macro setting, Vijayakumar said, “FPI flows are likely to continue supporting the market.”
The possibility of continued robust buying from FPIs could drive the Nifty 50 to reach high levels.
Vijayakumar said, “A new record high for Nifty is possible. However, there is no scope for a sharp rally since valuations are not favourable at record levels.”
The benchmark Nifty 50 latest historic high is 18,887.60. The short-term outlook for this index is considered to be robust.
There are three more trading sessions left in May month, and the FPIs flow could go up.
27 (AGENCIES): The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has imposed a fine of Rs 84.5 lakh on Central Bank of India for noncompliance with fraudclassification norms. According to Financial Express report, a statutory inspection for supervisory evaluation of the bank was conducted by the Reserve Bank of India and it showed that the bank had failed to report certain accounts as fraud within seven days of the decision of the joint lenders’ forum (JLF) to declare those as fraud.
The bank also recovered SMS alert charges from its customers on a flat basis rather than on an actual usage basis.
“In furtherance to the same, a notice was issued to the bank advising it to show cause as to why penalty should not be imposed on it for failure to comply with the said directions, as stated therein,” the central bank said in a press release.

He fooled her by saying that the MP government provided Rs 2 lakh to the married couple in case of inter-caste marriages. The woman, who belonged to another religion, believed him.
Soon, Krishnapal began mounting pressure on her for religious conversion, following which frequent arguments used to take place between them. On May 24, the woman approached police and lodged a complaint against Krishnapal for raping him and forcing her to convert to religion. The police have arrested him and have produced him in the court.
In a statement, APO president Razouvotuo Chatsu described the act as “wrong and unjustifiable” and asserted that such acts were alien to the cultures and traditions of ancestors.
APO stated that the iconic Naga Club building, which was a purposeful office of the NSF, was associated with Naga people’s history. APO said that the building was preserved and used valiantly by patriotic Naga youths to uphold the Naga struggle, adding that to destroy such a monument was a great loss for all the Nagas.
“It is understood that the grand Naga Club Building has been embroiled in conflict,” APO said and expressed belief that pursuing amicable and lasting solutions to conflicts could only stem from mutual respect and dialogue.
Further, APO said that Naga Club was Naga History, adding “we cannot put a price on what our pioneers achieved and passed down to us.”
APO has, therefore, appealed to all Nagas to show understanding of the positions taken in the conflict. APO also appealed all to desist from aggravating situations but show the compassion in helping resolve the issue, which it said would also help all sides in evolving a solution that will serve the larger cause of the Nagas.
NESO: North East Students’ Organisation (NESO), which represents eight student bodies of North East region—NSF, Khasi Students’ Union (KSU), All Assam Students’ Union (AASU), Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP), Twipra Students’ Federation (TSF), All Manipur Students’ Union (AMSU), Garo Students’ Union (GSU) and All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU)— has condemned the vandalization of NSF office.
In a communiqué, NESO chairman Samuel B Jyrwa stated that NSF office had been functioning for so many decades that it no lon-
ger remained only a building, but a part and parcel of the history of Naga people.
The organisation recalled that it was in this office that many deliberations and crucial decisions were made for the wellbeing, uplift and protection of Naga people.
Noting that the NSF in its journey of more than 75 years had faced and overcome so many trials and challenges, of which the latest episode was just another challenge, the NESO said it was very confident that the federation would be able to overcome this one too. The organisation also expressed its solidarity with the NSF and announced full support to the federation.
NH: Naga Hoho expressed shock over the incident and appealed to the responsible authority to immediately act against such perpetrators and award befitting punishment.
NH through its president HK Zhimomi stated that NSF office holds the Naga political history, sentiments and emotions of every Naga. The hoho, therefore, stated that the attack was “a murder to the future Naga generation.”
KPC: Kohima Press Club (KPC) through its president Alice Yhoshü and general secretary Atono Tsükrü Kense expressed deep concern over incident, which “indirectly” affected the temporary working office of the KPC that was housed within the Naga Club building.
KPC stated that any act of vandalism was unwarranted and that of cowardice, and had no place in a civilized society. The club has urged the responsible authorities to conduct a swift investigation into the incident and take action as per the law of the land.
ASU: Angami Students’ Union (ASU) expressed anguish and concern over the act of vandalism and appealed to the law enforcing agencies to immediately arrest the perpetrators and “initiate the most befitting action” as per the law of the land.
ASU through its president Bisevi Nakhro and vice president Kevilelhou Zumu stated that such vandalism was alien to the Naga people. The union stated that the audacity of some miscreants to mastermind “this heinous act” in Angami homeland was a direct confrontation with the ASU.
ASU stated that it would not tolerate “this cowardly barbarism” and
warned those perpetrators to immediately surrender themselves or bear the brunt of the union, sating the union would “go all out” in delivering justice to the NSF and ANCSU. ASU has informed its units to be prepared for any call.
AKM: Ao Students’ Conference (AKM) said it was “greatly disturbed” by incident and urged the responsible authority to take necessary action at the earliest.
AKM through its president Lanutoshi Aier and general secretary Satemmongba described the perpetrators as “not common miscreants, but anti Naga national elements.”
AKM also affirmed unwavering support to the NSF in particular and the Naga people in general in their collective endeavour to “build and rebuild not only the physical building but most importantly the Naga nation at this challenging moment.”
RSU: Rengma Students’ Union (RSU) expressed shock over the act of vandalism and demanded the competent authority immediately bring the perpetrators to book and accord exemplary justice as deemed by the law.
RSU through its president Ajo Tsela condemned the act by “some few wayward individual(s)” to dismantle the “very heritage and tarnish the undying legacy” of Naga pioneers who had sown the “seeds of Naga-ness”, adding that their memory continued to be fondly revered and visibly envisaged in the form of the Naga Club building.
Further, RSU stated that “such barbaric actions” committed against the NSF was an open confrontation against every Naga student, youth and the Naga people. The union affirmed that it would extend support and cooperation to the office of NSF in “whatever measures and courses of action that may be initiated.”
DNSU: Expressing dismay and grief over the act of vandalism, the Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU) through its president Moayanger Jamir and general secretary Sedelo T Vadeo stated that “this act of extreme crime” was committed by “anti-Naga miscreants” who were a threat to the entire Naga Nation.
DNSU has, therefore, appealed to the responsible authorities to immediately take the necessary actions and bring those involved in public domain.
Further, the union ap-
pealed to all the Nagas to condemn “such Anti-Naga illicit activities” that were a threat to the unity and integrity of Nagas.
DNSU affirmed that it “completely” endorsed the NSF in solving the issue, adding that the union would render its “unwavering support toward executing justice.”
AYO: Angami Youth Organisation (AYO) through its president Kesosul Christopher Ltu and general secretary Neidilhoutuo Sechu strongly condemned the vandalism and cautioned that the organisation would not tolerate any action that was detrimental to the progress of the Naga society.
AYO expressed dismay that the Naga Club Building, which stands as a history to the Naga aspirations, was destroyed by unknown miscreants. AYO stated that the incident was not just an attack on the building, but on the essence, fabric and legacy of the Nagas as the building today was a testimony of the Naga journey thus far.
Further, AYO vehemently denounced the act of the perpetrators and appealed the law enforcing agencies to be prompt in arresting the culprits and punish them befittingly.
It also affirmed support to NSF, ANCSU and the KPC at this hour and assured to support them in their demand for stringent action against the perpetrators.
TUD: Tenyimi Union Dimapur (TUD) expressed shock at the act vandalism by anti-social elements. TUD stated that the highhandedness and atrocious act committed by any individual or group cannot be tolerated when Nagas were striving for peaceful coexistence.
TUD through its media team maintained that NSF since its inception had been a beacon of hope and voice of the Nagas within its boundaries and beyond for citizens both young and old alike.
TUD stated that any misunderstanding and dissension could be amicably settled without resorting to such despicable actions. The union has called for arresting the culprits and those masterminds without any fear or favour.
TUD further appealed to all responsible citizens to condemn such act.

It will be placed near the chair of Lok Sabha Speaker in the House chamber.

On Friday, Modi said the new Parliament building will make every Indian proud and shared a video

‘Sengol’, a historical sceptre from Tamil Nadu which was received by first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru to represent transfer of power from the British and was kept in a museum
Congress leader Jairam Ramesh on Friday claimed there was no documented evidence of Lord Mountbatten, C Rajagopalachari and Nehru describing the Sengol as a symbol of transfer of power by the British to India.
The Congress’ stand on the Sengol evoked a strong reaction from Home Minister Amit Shah who said the party needs to “reflect” on its behaviour as he denounced its claim that there was no evidence of the Sengol being a symbol of transfer of power by the British to India in 1947.
BENGALURU, MAY 27
(IANS): After creating a furore with its proposal to ban the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) once its assumes power in Karnataka, the newly-elected Congress government on Saturday delivered a major a U-turn with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah denying any such claim by his party. While speaking to reporters, Siddaramaiah asserted that strict action will be taken against any organisation that disturbs peace and harmony in society. He clarified that the party had not spoken about banning RSS. Notably, statements in this regard by cabinet minister Priyank Kharge had stirred a controversy in the state. Kharge had said that his party is ready to impose a ban on Bajrang Dal. He had also stated earlier that “We will not hesitate to ban organisations which indulge in moral policing. It might be RSS or Bajrang Dal or any other communal organisation.” “We will change the laws brought by the BJP government. If any individual, organization
BJP trying to replicate Manipur-like riots in WB: Mamata
SALBONI, MAY 27 (PTI): West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata
Banerjee on Saturday alleged that the BJP was trying to replicate a Manipur-like situation in her state by planning to orchestrate ethnic riots. She condemned the attack on state minister Birbaha Hansda’s vehicle and said that the BJP activists, not members of the Kurmi community, were behind the incident that took place on Friday.
“The BJP was behind ethnic violence in Manipur. The saffron party is trying to replicate similar riots between communities in West Bengal. They want to create a situa-
tion wherein Adivasis will fight Kurmis so that army can be called in and the military will have shoot-at-sight orders,” she said at a rally in Salboni in Paschim Medinipur district.
Mamata Banerjee said those trying to fuel ethnic riots in the state will not be spared.
The state minister’s vehicle, which was part of TMC national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee’s convoy, was damaged after being pelted with stones in the tribaldominated district.
“I condemn yesterday’s violence. I don’t believe Kurmis were behind the attack. BJP workers disguised as members of the Kurmi community were behind it,” she said, while addressing TMC’s mass outreach campaign ‘Trinamool e Nabojowar’ (new wave in Trinamool).

(PTI): Former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Mehbooba Mufti on Saturday called for a review of JKLF chief Yasin Malik’s case, while People’s Conference chief Sajad Lone termed NIA’s plea seeking death penalty for the separatist leader as “dangerous”.
However, Apni Party president Altaf Bukhari said deterrent measures should be taken against those trying to threaten the country’s security.
The reactions came after the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Friday approached the Delhi High Court seeking the death penalty for Malik, asserting that not giving capital punishment to such a “dreaded terrorist” will result in the miscarriage of justice. The Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chief was awarded a life term by a trial court in a terror funding case last year.

Me hbooba said Malik’s case must be reviewed and reconsidered as in a democracy like India even the assassins of a prime minister were pardoned. She also lashed out at Bukhari -- her former party and cabinet colleague -saying those gleefully supporting Malik’s hanging were a grave threat to “our collective rights”.
“In a democracy like India where even the assassins of a PM were pardoned, the case of a political prisoner like Yasin Malik must be reviewed and reconsidered. The new
political ikhwan gleefully supporting his hanging are a grave threat to our collective rights,” the PDP chief said on Twitter.
Bukhari said the NIA’s plea demanding the death penalty for Malik highlights the urgency to address militant funding in Jammu and Kashmir.
“We must ensure justice prevails and deterrent measures should be taken against those who are trying to threaten our nation’s security,” he said.
People’s Conference chairman Lone said the NIA’s plea was dangerous.
“NIA plea on Yasin Malik is dangerous. It is a humble plea. Let you not be misled by fair weather Kashmir experts. Please — every situation has a short term and a long term. Let the short term enforced calm not blind you to the possible long term turbulence,” Lone said on Twitter.

KCR demands withdrawal of Delhi Ordinance
HYDERABAD, MAY 27 (PTI): Telangana Chief
Minister K Chandrasekhar
Rao on Saturday demanded that the Centre withdraw its ordinance on control of services in Delhi, after he held a meeting with the chief ministers of Delhi and Punjab.
He made the demand during a joint press conference with Arvind Kejriwal and Bhagwant Mann who called on him here to discuss the issue of the Centre’s ordinance.
Rao alleged that the way the Centre issued the ordinance reminded one of the days of the Emergency.
“(PM) Narendra Modi ji and BJP leaders speak so vociferously against the Emergency. Exactly the same thing happened before the Emergency. Post Allahabad High Court judgment, a Constitutional amendment was made nullifying that judgment,” Rao said. Claiming that the NDA government is on a path similar to the imposition of the Emergency by Indira Gandhi in 1975, he asked what is the difference between the Indira Gandhi regime then and the Centre now.
“We demand that the Prime Minister withdraw the ordinance. Yourself. Or else, we will all support Arvind Kejriwal ji. We will stand by him. We will use all our strength in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha to defeat
Court not an institution to sermonise society on morality: SC JAIPUR, MAY 27 (AGENCIES):
NEW DELHI, MAY 27
(PTI): Court is not an institution to sermonise society on morality and ethics and rather, it is bound by the rule of law while taking decisions, the Supreme Court has said.
The top court made this observation while ordering premature release of a woman convicted for murder of two children.
The woman had an affair with a man who used to often threaten her. So she decided to commit suicide along with her children.

brutal nature of the offence committed by her. A Supreme Court bench of justices Ajay Rastogi and Ahsanuddin Amanullah said the woman never tried to murder her sons with a view to continue her illicit relationship.
Sudden heavy rain, hailstorm and gusty winds have flooded parts of Rajasthan. Fatehpur city and Shekhawati region were the worst hit, reports Ndtv news.

Arvind Kejriwal with
Rao,
Saturday. (PTI) that ordinance and see to it that the ordinance is not passed,” he said.
Rao alleged that the NDA government insulted the people of Delhi.
The Centre is not allowing the elected government of Delhi to function and is not honouring the Supreme Court judgment, he alleged. “Not honouring the Supreme Court’s larger bench judgment means going towards Emergency,” he said.
He felt that the “whole system” would support Kejriwal as it is a “question of the existence of democracy”. Kejriwal thanked Rao for his support. “People across the country ask where would people go for justice if the Prime Minister does not accept the Supreme Court’s orders,” the Delhi Chief Minister said.
“In a way, Prime
Minister is challenging the people of Delhi that he would not let the government function, whatever (be) the government elected by the people,” he claimed, accusing the Centre of meddling when a non-BJP government is elected by the people in any state.
He alleged that the BJP either “purchases MLAs, dislodges government or breaks MLAs by sending ED or brings an ordinance misusing the Governor, as seen in different states”.
Observing that the BJP does not have a majority in Rajya Sabha, he said if all non-BJP parties defeat the ordinance in the upper house, it will generate confidence among people of the country that the Modi government would not return to power in 2024.
The fight is to safeguard democracy, he said.
She bought pesticides meant for plants and administered poison to her two children. Thereafter, when she poured the pesticide in a tumbler to consume it herself, her niece pushed it down.
Unfortunately, the two children were declared dead on arrival in the hospital and an FIR under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code was lodged.
The trial court convicted the woman under IPC sections 302 (murder) and 309 (suicide) and sentenced her life imprisonment besides a fine.
The high court partly allowed her plea by acquitting her under Section 309 while upholding the conviction under Section 302 of IPC.
The woman pleaded for premature release, saying she was in prison for almost 20 years. However, the recommendation of the State Level Committee was rejected by the Tamil Nadu government considering the cruel and
“On the contrary, she had tried to commit suicide herself along with her children not with a view to continue her illicit relationship with her paramour but rather, in disappointment and frustration over the quarrel picked up by her paramour. “This court is not an institution to sermonise society on morality and ethics and we say no further on this score, bound as we are, by the brooding presence of the rule of law,” the bench said.
The apex court said the case cannot be simply bracketed as a ‘cruel and brutal’ offence as the woman herself was trying to end her life but was prevented by her niece in the nick of time.
“Moreover, the recommendation of the State Level Committee conveyed by the Additional Director General of Police/Inspector General of Prisons also notes her undisputed reflective conduct as also the long period of incarceration already undergone,” it said.
The top court said there is no valid reason or justifiable ground for the State not accepting the recommendation of the State Level Committee for premature release of the woman.

No room in syllabus for those who sowed seeds of partition: Delhi university V-C
NEW DELHI, MAY 27 (PTI): Those who laid the foundation to break India should not be in the syllabus, Delhi University Vice Chancellor Yogesh Singh said after the academic council passed a motion to remove a chapter on Pakistan’s national poet Muhammad Iqbal from the political science curriculum.
Born in 1877 in Sialkot, in undivided India, Iqbal had written the famous song “Saare Jahan Se Achha.” He is often
credited with giving birth to the idea of Pakistan.
The university’s academic council passed a motion on Friday for the removal of the chapter titled ‘Modern Indian Political Thought’.
It is part of the BA sixth-semester paper, officials said, adding that the matter will now be presented before the executive council of Delhi University (DU) for a final call.

Discontentment after K’taka cabinet expansion
BENGALURU, MAY 27
(PTI): While joy swept Raj Bhavan as 24 ministers were sworn in on Saturday, the discontent among many senior legislators who were denied a ministerial position in the 34-member Cabinet of the Siddaramaiah government erupted in the form of protests outside.
Dejected supporters of the legislators who could not make it to the Cabinet raised slogans outside the Governor’s residence where the ministers took oath.
Apart from Bengaluru, protests were held in Sira in Tumakuru, Mysuru, Haveri, Kodagu and various other places as well, with many disgruntled legislators and their supporters voicing their discontent.
In Bengaluru, supporters of Vijayanagar MLA M Krishnappa gathered near Raj Bhavan and shouted slogans. They said the four-time MLA deserved the cabinet berth
more than anyone else.
Similarly, the supporters of T B Jayachandra staged a demonstration outside Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s house alleging that a “grave injustice” has been meted out to the Kunchitiga community as no representation was given to them. A disgruntled Jayachandra said he would meet the party high command and seek justice.
In Mysuru, supporters of Narasimharaja MLA
Tanveer Sait agitated holding banners and placards in support of their leader.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah clarified that there were certain parameters according to which first-time MLAs from the party are not inducted into the Cabinet.
Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar consoled the disgruntled legislators, telling them not to lose hope as they had scope in the future.

The ceremonial sceptre ‘Sengol’, which will be installed in the new Parliament building, was handed over to Prime Minister Narendra Modi amid chanting of mantras by seers from Tamil Nadu on Saturday, a day ahead of the big ceremony, reports Ndtv news.

Miscreants destroy NSF office... Jacob reiterates state govt’s stand on implementation of ILP
(From p-1)
The house extended its gratitude to the Naga people, political leaders and civil society organisations, cutting across artificial boundaries, for extending solidarity with the NSF during this difficult time of the Naga heritage site being demolished by the anti-Naga rogues.
The house resolved to expedite the process of rebuilding the Naga Club building, for which the committee constituted by the executive council was approved by the emergency presidential council meeting.
“Every single Naga youth and student shall contribute towards the same for which the federating units and sub-ordinate bodies are delegated the responsibility to ensure the success of the endeavour,” NSF stated.
The house also resolved to forward the matter of extension of tenure of the incumbent members to the Federal Assembly, for which NSF speaker was requested to summon an emergency federal assembly post the extra emergency presidential council meeting.
Meanwhile, minister of higher education & tourism Temjen Imna Along and advisor water resources Tongpang Ozukum visited the site.
Along vehemently condemned the incident and said that the mis-
creants were only sending a very bad message not only to Nagaland but throughout the country. He said that 24 hours to trace the culprits was too long a time as he believed that people knew who had done this. As the police were already investigating the case, he opined that the culprits should be caught, sent to jail and made to pay to rebuild the building so that they would never dare imagine doing such a thing again. Along stated, “People who did this are not fit to be called citizens of Nagaland. NSF carries the aspirations of Naga people in every sphere of life. Booking the miscreants under law will not be enough. Their names and faces should be revealed to the society so that every Naga knows them and what they did.”
Tongpang Ozukum, who also visited the site, condemned the act and said that there was nothing left to say as the people who did this were not in their right state of mind, adding that any person with a nationalistic mindset could not do such a thing with the building. Terming the entire episode as a “shameless act”, he said that the building and infrastructure could be demolished, but the spirit of Naga student community can never be trampled upon.
Seers hand over ‘Sengol’ to PM ahead of new Parl opening
received by first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru to represent the transfer of power from the British.
Countering the Centre, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh said there is no documented evidence of Lord Mountbatten, C Rajagopalachari and Jawaharlal Nehru describing the ‘Sengol’ as a symbol of transfer of power by the British to India.
(From p-1) Jacob said that the process was important to safeguard and protect the indigenous Nagas.
He, however, made known that the process was not about chasing away the non-Nagas, but the provisions were already in place under the Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulation since 1873.
Meanwhile, the minister encouraged the gathering to live and change for better tomorrow and called upon the Sumi community in particular to unite as a community to progress and thrive.
“Sumis are bold in nature, but are we able to display that boldness for truth when we go out…? And so we need to rethink and engage in serious discussions,” Jacob stated.
Layng emphasis on farming and farmers, the minister noted that farming was a respectable occupation in other countries.
Reminding that Nagas have been blessed with fertile lands, Jacob encouraged the gathering and the youths to focus on farming and become progressive farmers by way of using the latest technologies available.
On the occasion, the gathering observed a minute’s silence to
honour the pioneers. Short speeches were also delivered by Sümi Hoho president Nikheto Zhimomi, Sümi Kükami Hoho president Kashito Yepthomi and Western Sümi Kükami Hoho president Vikuto Achumi.
Earlier, the invocation was proposed by Chekiye Ghami Baptist Akukuhou Rev. Dr Toniho Kiho, welcome address by WSH convenor judicial board Vihoto K Achumi.
Highlights of the conference include special number presentation by Akuvuto choir and adoption of nine-point resolution “Chekiye resolution”.
Other organizations like the Sumi Totimi Hoho, Western Sumi Totimi hoho, Sumi youth fronts including the village chiefs also attended the programme.
The vote of thanks was delivered by Kuhoi Zhimomi and benediction was proposed by NCRC Chekiye Ghami pastor Ananto Sümi.
Further, new team of the Western Sumi Hoho office bearers (2023-26) was also elected led by Shikaho Zhimomi as president, Vikato K Achumi vice president and Vikato Shikhu as general secretary.

Iran exchanges heavy gunfire with Taliban on Afghan border
DUBAI, MAY 27 (AP): The Taliban and Iran exchanged heavy gunfire Saturday on the Islamic Republic’s border with Afghanistan, killing and wounding troops while sharply escalating rising tensions between the two countries amid a dispute over water rights.
Iran’s state-run IRNA news agency quoted the country’s deputy police chief, Gen. Qassem Rezaei, accusing the Taliban of opening fire first Saturday morning on the border of Iran’s Sistan and Baluchestan province and the Afghan province of Nimroz.
IRNA said Iran inflicted “heavy casualties and serious damage.” From the Taliban’s view, Afghan Interior Ministry spokesman Abdul Nafi Takor accused Iran of shooting first.
Takor said the firefight killed two people, one from each country, and wounded others. He described the situation as now being under control. Iran’s government did not acknowledge any fatalities on its side, though the semiofficial, Englishlanguage newspaper Tehran Times said the fighting killed three Iranian border
guards. The newspaper added that a main border crossing with Afghanistan had been closed as well.

The advocacy group HalVash, which reports on issues affecting the Baluch people in the predominately Sunni province of Sistan and Baluchestan, quoted residents in the area saying the fighting took place near the Kang district of Nimroz. It said some people in the area had fled the violence.
Videos posted online, purportedly from the area, included the crackle of machine gun fire in the distance. HalVash later posted an image of what appeared to be the remains of a mortar round, saying that “heavy weapons and mortars are being used.” A later video from HalVash purported to show Iranian forces firing a mortar.
ISLAMABAD, MAY 27
(PTI): Maryam Nawaz, Senior Vice President of PML-N party, has told Imran Khan that the “game is over” for the cricketerturned-politician following an exodus of his party’s senior members. Maryam made these remarks on Friday while addressing a convention in Pakistan’s Punjab province. During her address, she also talked about the incidents on May 9 — the day on which the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party chief Khan was arrested, triggering violent protests countrywide.
Maryam, the 49-yearold daughter of the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) supremo and former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, told PTI Chairman Khan that the “game is over” following
an exodus of his party’s senior members.
Over 70 lawyers and leaders from the party have parted ways with the PTI so for following the May 9 mayhem. Top PTI leaders - including the party’s Secretary General Asad Umar, former information minister Fawad Chaudhry and former minister for human rights Shireen Mazari - have resigned.
Taking a jibe at the PTI over leaders’ mass departure, Maryam said that
there were ques of those quitting the party.
The PTI leaders’ exodus started when the security forces launched a crackdown against the party following the attacks on the civil and military institutions.
“How will the people stand when the leader himself is a jackal?” she criticised the former prime minister, who was removed from office via a vote of no confidence in the National Assembly in April last year.
“Your people are revealing that Imran Khan, 70, is the mastermind of May 9 (incidents)” she added.
The PML-N senior vice president said that Khan was the mastermind of the May 9 “terrorism” but his workers are facing anti-terrorism court.

TOKYO, MAY 27
(IANS): A man was confirmed dead on Friday in a shooting incident in Japan’s Tokyo area, local media reported.
The man in his 50s was severely wounded after being shot at a coffee shop in the western city of Machida of Tokyo
Metropolis on Thursday evening, Xinhua news agency reported, citing local media outlets. He was confirmed dead after being transported to the hospital unconscious, with gunshot wounds reported in his stomach, neck and arm.
BEIJING, MAY 27 (AP): Taiwan’s Defence Ministry said on Saturday that it detected three Chinese warships, including the Shandong aircraft carrier, passing through the Taiwan Strait, as Beijing keeps up pressure on the self-ruled island it claims as its own.
The ministry said it was monitoring the movements of the ships and will respond accordingly. In a tweet, the ministry said that the three vessels were headed north along the Taiwan Strait at noon and were steering along the west of the median line — an unofficial boundary once tacitly accepted by both sides.
China has stepped up its military activities around Taiwan in recent months amid deteriorating US-China ties. China claims Taiwan as its own territory to be brought under its control by force if necessary and regularly sends ships and warplanes into airspace and waters near the island.
The ministry also said that in the 24 hours from 6 am Friday to Saturday, it detected 33 of China’s People’s Liberation Army aircraft and 10 navy vessels around Taiwan.
Twelve of the aircraft had crossed the median line of the Taiwan Strait or entered the island’s air defense identification zone.
In response, Taiwan’s armed forces deployed aircraft, navy vessels and land-based missile systems.
In April, the Chinese military said it was “ready to fight” after completing three days of large-scale combat exercises around Taiwan that simulated sealing off the island in response to Taiwanese President Tsai Ingwen’s trip to the US.
Last August, China intensified war games around Taiwan, with missile firings and incursions into Taiwanese waters and airspace following then-House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taipei.

Serbian prez steps down as leader of the governing party
BELGRADE, MAY 27
(AP): Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic stepped down from the helm of his populist party on Saturday amid plans to form a wider political movement and as he faces a wave of antigovernment protests. At his own proposal, Vucic was replaced as the leader of right-wing Serbian Progressive Party by Milos Vucevic, who is currently the defence minister.
“Thank you for these 11 years,” Vucic told a party gathering in the central Serbian town of Kragujevac. “I am proud to have led the best party in Serbia for all these years.”

The protests in Belgrade and other Serbian cities are the biggest in years against Vucic and his government.
They were organsed in response to a pair of mass shootings earlier this month that left 18 people dead and 20 wounded, many of them children from an elementary school. Critics accuse Vucic and his party of having fueled divisions in society and curbed democratic freedoms during his 11 years in power. He has denied this.
MOSCOW, MAY 27 (AGENCIES): Russia on Saturday dismissed criticism from US President Joe Biden over Moscow’s plan to deploy tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus, saying Washington had for decades deployed just such nuclear weapons in Europe, reports Reuters. Russia said on Thursday it was pushing ahead with the first deployment of such weapons outside its borders since the 1991 fall of the Soviet Union and Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said the weapons were already on the move. Biden said on Friday he had an “extremely negative” reaction to reports that Russia has moved ahead with a plan to deploy tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus. The
US State Department denounced the Russian nuclear deployment plan.
“It is the sovereign right of Russia and Belarus to ensure their security by means we deem necessary amidst of a large-scale hybrid war unleashed by Washington against us,” Russia’s embassy in the United States said in a statement.
“The measures we undertake are fully consistent with our international legal obligations.”
The United States has said the world faces the gravest nuclear danger since the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis because of remarks by President Vladimir Putin during the Ukraine conflict, but Moscow says its position has been misinterpreted.

HONG KONG, MAY 27
(AP): One of the few remaining pro-democracy parties in Hong Kong voted to dissolve itself on Saturday, joining a growing list of organizations that have disbanded as authorities crack down on dissent.
Civic Party chairman
Alan Leong told reporters that the dissolution of the party was a “writing on the wall” as there was no one to take over. None of its members at an extraordinary general meeting filed nominations for executive positions.
Thirty of the 31 members voted to disband, with one person abstaining.
The party, which was founded in 2006, was made up of mostly professionals, lawyers and academics. At
its peak, it won six seats in the Hong Kong legislature during the 2012 elections, and was the city’s secondlargest pro-democracy party after the Democratic Party.
Several members were charged with subversion under the sweeping national security law that was imposed by Beijing following massive 2019 protests calling for political freedoms that were promised the semi-autonomous territory after its handover from Britain in 1997.

They were accused of participating in an unofficial primary to pick up the best candidates for the legislative elections that would allow the pro-democracy camp to win a majority of seats.
Authorities, however, said that the primary was aimed at subverting the government. In a written statement, Leong thanked “all likeminded people who joined our long walk to democracy for different parts of the journey.”
“Today, the Civic Party is bidding Hong Kong farewell,” he wrote. “We hope Hong Kong people will live in the moment with a hopeful and not too heavy heart. Live in truth and believe in tomorrow.”

About20 per cent or one in five adults considered healthy by medical standards, have glucose metabolism similar to those with prediabetes, finds an alarming study. These healthy adults were identified using a new method of analysis, developed by scientists at Klick Health, a US based life sciences company, that flags a precursor to prediabetes called impaired glucose homeostasis (IGH).
In the study, published in the journal Mayo Clinic Proceedings: Digital Health, the team stressed the need for intervention to stop these adults from becoming diabetic. “For people with diabetes, blood glucose levels can rise and fall like a wild roller-coaster ride with steep drops and peaks,” said Jaycee Kaufman, study lead author and research scientist at Klick Labs. “We found a similar pattern in patients with IGH, albeit those pat-
terns were more like gentle waves than dramatic peaks, but intervention on this population could limit the likelihood of progression to full diabetes,” she added.
A total of 384 people were equipped with a continuous glucose monitor for the study and assessed by a physician over a two-week time period. Participants were diagnosed diabetic, pre-diabetic, or healthy, according to guidelines outlined by the American Diabetes Association.
After applying the mathematical model, patients were then re-classified into two groups based on their glucose homeostasis parameters: effective or impaired. “What was most surprising is that 20 per cent of participants, who were assessed using the standard screening tools for diabetes and cleared as healthy by a physician, were then found to have impaired glucose homeostasis-reinforcing it
is now possible to provide an earlier, more accurate and sensitive assessment of people’s diabetic status,” said Yan Fossat, Vice President of Klick Labs. With research suggesting it is possible to reverse diabetes, or at least slow its progression, there is growing demand for screening tools that can flag at-risk individuals. Screening and monitoring involve reviewing risk factors such as age, BMI, and family history; and diagnosis relies primarily on the blood tests like glycated haemoglobin (HbA1c) and Oral Glucose Tolerance Test (OGTT). “This new method of analysis is a major step forward in the prevention and management of diabetes,” Fossat said. “Early detection and intervention is critical in the management of Type 2 diabetes, so our method has the potential to have a significant impact on the lives of millions of people worldwide.” (IANS)

WFI stir: Delhi Police files status report
NEW DELHI, MAY 27
(IANS): The Delhi Police on Saturday filed a status report on the application moved by the protesting women wrestlers against Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief and BJP
MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh.
Appearing for Delhi Police, special public prosecutor Atul Shrivastava
apprised Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) Harjit Singh Jaspal of Rouse Avenue Court that the statements of the ‘victim’ women wrestlers have been recorded under Section 164 of the CrPC before a magistrate.
ACMM Jaspal directed the police to supply both the status reports filed on May 12 and May 27 to the
complainants, who were also directed to supply a copy of the application to the police.
The court then posted the matter for next hearing on June 27.
In the wake of the al-
legations of sexual harrasment levelled against Singh by the protesting wrestlers, a Delhi court had on Thursday sought an action taken report (ATR) from the police on a complaint filed by a social activist and
chief of Atal Jan Shakti Party, seeking registration of an FIR against wrestlers Vinesh Phogat, Bajrang Punia, and Sakshi Malik for pressing “false allegations” of sexual harassment against Singh.
Prannoy enters final, Sindhu loses in Malaysia Masters
KUALA LUMPUR, MAY
27 (PTI): Star Indian shuttler HS Prannoy entered the men’s singles final of the Malaysia Masters after his opponent Christian Adinata of Indonesia conceded the semifinal match following a nasty knee injury here on Saturday.
World number 9 Prannoy was leading 1917 when Adinata lost his footing while landing after a jump return and his left knee buckled, leaving the Indonesian shuttler grimacing in pain.
The 21-year-old Adinata, a 2019 World Junior Championships winner, was quickly attended by Prannoy and the Indonesian coach before being eventually wheeled out of the court.
Prannoy will now take on the winner of the other semifinal match between China’s Weng Hong Yang and Chinese Taipei’s Lin Chun-Yi in the final on Sunday.
It will be Prannoy’s first final of the season and second since the runner-up finish at the Swiss Open last year. Double Olympic medallist P V Sindhu, how-
ever, couldn’t make it to the women’s singles finals after suffering a 14-21 17-21 loss to Indonesia’s Gregoria Mariska Tunjung.
It was a second successive loss for Sindhu following seven wins against the tricky world number 9 Indonesian. It was a oneway traffic for Prannoy, who was off to a flying start, leading 11-1 in a jiffy.

Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Anamika of Patiala House Courts had passed the directions on an application filed on behalf of Bam Bam Maharaj Nauhatiya.
On May 12, the Police had informed the court that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed to probe the sexual harassment allegations against Singh.
Since April 23, prominent wrestlers, who have achieved glory at the Olympics and World Championships, have been staging a protest at Jantar Mantar against the WFI chief. Several groups of farmers have also extended their support to the wrestlers and have arrived from Haryana and Punjab to join the protest.
Premier League Player of the Season
LONDON, MAY 27
(IANS): Erling Haaland was named the Premier League’s Player of the Season on Saturday, after a record-breaking debut campaign in which he helped Manchester City claim their third straight league title.
The 22-year-old scored 36 goals in 35 games this season, breaking the previous record of 34 for a single Premier League season set by Andrew Cole and Alan Shearer in 42-match Premier League campaigns.
Only Dixie Dean, for Everton in 1927/28, has scored more goals across all competitions (63) in a top-flight English season
Erling Haalandthan Haaland’s 52.
The Norwegian is also the first player in the Premier League to score hattricks in three successive home matches, and the first Man City player to score a Manchester derby hat-trick since 1970.
Haaland becomes the third successive Man City player, and fourth over -
all, to claim the accolade, after Kevin De Bruyne in 2019-20 and 2021-22, while Ruben Dias took the honour in 2020-21. Vincent Kompany was the first, in 2011-12.
The striker was voted the Player of the Season by the public, the captains of the 20 Premier League clubs and a panel of football experts. Haaland beat seven other nominees to the prize in De Bruyne, Harry Kane, Martin Odegaard, Marcus Rashford, Bukayo Saka and Kieran Trippier. He will have the chance to add to his Premier League tally on Sunday when City visit Brentford for their final game of the season.
However after the break, it was Aditana, who accumulated points in buckets, taking seven of the next nine points.
A jump cross court smash helped Prannoy find his confidence back but unforced errors and Adinata also playing some smart shots saw the Indonesian making it 10-14.
Adinata was quick in his returns and played a few cross court winners and a body smash. An on-the-line return on the backline saw him make it 14-15 before he drew parity at 16-16 when Prannoy went wide again. Prannoy dominated the short exchanges next to lead 19-17 before the match ended abruptly following the injury to Adinata.
India lose to Britain 2-4 in FIH Pro League Hockey
LONDON, MAY 27 (PTI):
A lacklustre India suffered their second successive defeat in the European leg of the FIH Men’s Hockey Pro League, going down to dominant hosts Great Britain 2-4 here on Saturday.
Timothy Nurse struck a field goal for Great Britain in the sixth minute while Harmanpreet equalised for India from a penalty corner in the 13th minute.
Sorsby Thomas scored Britain’s second in the 31st minute, helping them regain the lead before Lee Morton came up with an excellent goal on the 33rd minute after catching the Indians napping.
Harmanpreet reduced the deficit for India with his second goal of the day -- this one too from a penalty corner -- in the 42nd minute, the strike helping him become the all-time top-scorer in the Pro League with 35 goals.
Bandurak Nicholas regained England’s two-goal lead with his 53rd minute strike at the Lee Valley Hockey Centre, and India could not put up a fight from there. India had lost
to Olympic champions Belgium 1-2 on Friday. Nurse opened the account for England with his maiden goal at the senior level. He dribbled his way past Lalit Kumar Upadhyay and Mandeep Mor down the left to enter the Indian ‘D’ before shooting the ball past keeper Krishan Bahadur Pathak, who started at goal ahead of the seasoned PR Sreejesh.
Britain scoring a quick first goal was not surprising as the home team started on an aggressive note and seemed to be on the lookout for creating opportunities,

2nd Semi-final After Chümoukedima won the toss and elected to bat first, Mughavi (16 runs) and Sedezhalie (12 runs) were the only batsmen who could manage double digits as the batting line up collapsed and managed to put up a paltry total of 69 runs all out in 27.3 overs.
Vino G Zhimomi of Niuland rattled Chümoukedima and returned figures of 5 wickets in 8.3 overs. He was ably supported by Sunil Sharma who also collected 3 wickets.
