NSCN (I-M) invited to Delhi to hold talks: Rio

KOHIMA, SEP 27 (NPN): After resuming talks in Nagaland between former special director of Intelligence Bureau AK Mishra and NSCN (I-M) leadership, chief minister Neiphiu Rio said the Centre has invited NSCN (I-M) to Delhi to continue the talks. Interacting with media persons on the sidelines of an event organised by TaFMA here on Monday, Rio said there would be only one interlocutor for all the negotiating groups. Rio said that Union home minister Amit Shah had also asked him and Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to assist and make the Naga Political Groups (NPGs) come to an understanding for an early political solution so that peace and development could be accelerated. Though there had been some differences between the Centre and NSCN (IM) over some issues, Rio expressed happiness over resumption of talks after a gap of nearly two years.

When asked whether Niki Sumi-led NSCN (K) would be holding talks with Government of India, Rio replied that though the group and AK Mishra could not meet this time, he said they were in touch. On September 21, state chief minister Neiphiu Rio his Assam counterpart Himanta Biswa Sarma held closed-door meeting with the NSCN (I-M) leadership headed by ato kilonser and chief negotiator Th. Muivah at Police complex, Chümoukedima. It may be recalled that the Sarma, who is also the convenor of the North East Democratic Alliance

(NEDA), was assigned by Union Home minister Amit Shah in 2020 with the task of studying the political situation in Nagaland and also hold discussions with the legislators and civil society groups. Tasked to get everyone on board before a final agreement was inked over the protracted Naga issue, Sarma, in 2020, had said that the Centre had taken all the North Eastern states into confidence on the Naga peace issue and it was unlikely that there would be any contention among them. Not in a hurry for cabinet reshuffle: Meanwhile, on the likelihood of a cabinet reshuffle following the formation of United Democratic Alliance (UDA), chief minister Neiphiu Rio clarified that the alliance constituents were not in a hurry though discussions were on. Since all have come together for Naga political issue, he said their objective was to get things in order after which they would focus on UDA.

The bandh evoked a

BKU leader Rakesh Tikait said the bandh was a massive success. “Our Bharat bandh was successful. for discussions with the government but no talks are happening,” he was quoted as saying by PTI. The Samyukta Kisan Morcha said that there was an unprecedented response to bandh call given by farmers. Meanwhile, as farmers across the country held protests, the Congress on Monday urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to talk to agitating farmers and listen to their legitimate

Hand over complex to Naga entrepreneurs

DIMAPUR, SEP 27 (NPN): Rising People’s Party (RPP) has asked the state government to make operational the Shopping Complex &Parking Plaza at Forest Colony, Dimapur. Asserting that it would oppose any move by the state government to privatise the complex, RPP instead demanded that the state government should hand over the complex to Naga entrepreneurial community through a Memorandum of Understanding. Having declared meaningless “Year of Farmers” and “Year of Entrepre-

grievances. Congress also alleged that instead of redressing the grievances of farmers, the government is trying to paint them as enemies of the country and that is why the farmers are protesting on the roads. In Delhi, a section of the trade unions and civil society groups held a protest at Jantar Mantar. Parts of the national capital witnessed traffic snarls in morning hours as police closed some key roads to prevent any untoward incident during the bandh. Commuters faced difficulty while crossing the city borders, especially the Delhi-Gurgaon border. The traffic on DND was also affected. The Ghazipur border is closed for vehicular movement and the whole traffic is being diverted to DND and Apsara border for Noida (Cont’d on p-8)

neurs” in the past, RPP suggested that the government could now actually empower a generation of young entrepreneurs with concrete action. It also appealed to the Naga entrepreneurial community to take ownership of the issue. RPP also said it was opposed to the forest department managing the complex since the connec-

tion between the two was “dubious”. Based on the reply furnished in response to its RTI, RPP said the decision to construct the shopping complex and parking plaza at Forest Colony, Dimapur was taken at State Planning Board meeting held at chief minister’s office on June 9, 2011. (Cont’d on p-8)

DIMAPUR, SEP 27 (NPN): Despite stiff opposition from various quarters against shifting of the deputy commissioner office Dimapur to the new complex at Chümoukedima, the state government has reportedly asked DC Dimapur to immediately shift the District Election Office and Disaster Management cell. Besides shifting of DEO office and DM cell, principal secretary Home Abhijit Sinha in a letter had also asked the DC to make necessary arrangements for shifting of other branches at an early date. Sinha said the two newly posted officials-- ADC and EAC, will supervise the process. It was also learnt that several Dimapur-based civil society organizations held an emergency meeting on Monday to deliberate on the issue.

DIMAPUR, SEP 27 (NPN): Ao Senden has appealed to the State government to continue executing the power system improvement project sanctioned by Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (PGCIL) at Mokokchung without delay. In a letter to chief secretary J Alam, Ao Senden president Chubawati Longchar maintained that the project was much needed for the people of Mokokchung and surrounding areas and it was expected that it would be completed within the stipulated time period. However, Senden expressed dismay that the project will be “desanctioned” on grounds of

non-handing over of land for Mokokchung power house sub-station. In addition, there is non-reimbursement of state component of GST amounting to Rs 28.08 crore against invoices raised till March 21, 2021 by the State’s power department, the Senden said. Referring to the letter written by All Ward Union Mokokchung Town (AWUMT) to the chief secretary on September 25 and the letter written by AWUMT to the landowner on April 29 this year, Longchar claimed that there was no land issue for constructing the power house sub-station at Mokokchung.

He said this had already been discussed and resolved between the landowner and AWUMT. Ao Senden said the same issue was also discussed on June 23 this year at DPDB meeting in the presence of PGCIL officials. Ao Senden regretted that inspite of all necessary formalities being completed for acquisition of the land, the State government was neglecting Mokokchung district by stalling the project. Therefore, consequent to this, he warned that should there be any reaction from the public, the State government would be held fully responsible for it.
