Efforts on to revoke AFSPA from NE: PM
DIPHU/DIBRUGARH/ GUWAHATI, APR 28 (PTI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday while speaking at a rally at Diphu, 250 kms east of Guwahati, said efforts are on to remove AFSPA completely from the northeast region. Later, addressing a rally at Dibrugarh in Assam after inaugurating seven cancer care centres and laying the foundation stone for seven others across the state, Modi said that he does not want anyone to fall ill but if they do, “we have built hospitals for them to get the best treatment without any financial burden.” Addressing a ‘Peace, Unity and Development’ rally, he said the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act could be withdrawn from various parts of the region as the law and order situation has improved in the last eight years. “As the (law and order) situation improved with 75 per cent decrease in violence in the region, there have been changes in the imposition of laws. revoked in Tripura and then in Meghalaya,” he said. “Due to the proper control of the situation in the last eight years, the AFSPA has been removed from most parts of the state. We are trying to withdraw it from the remaining parts too. “The Act is applicable in some areas of Nagaland and Manipur, and we are working speedily to revoke it completely,” he said. Modi also said the effect of the BJP’s “double engine” government is evident in the return of permanent peace and speedy
development in Assam. The government has entered into peace agreements in Assam’s Karbi Anglong and in Tripura, while efforts are on to ensure permanent peace and speedy development in the entire region, he said. He said several outfits in the region had returned to the mainstream to march forward in the path of peace and development. Permanent peace returned to the region, and speedy development in the northeastern states was ensured due to a collective effort of the Centre and the
state governments, Modi said. He stated that this process is “on and will continue in the future.” “Earlier, the northeast was known for bomb blasts and violence and the worst sufferers were our mothers, sisters and children. Now as I see the smile on their faces when the youths have given up their arms, I feel God is showering blessings on me,” the Prime Minister said. The prime minister also laid the foundation stone for colleges of veterinary science and agriculture and a model government
CNCCI takes serious note of traders paying GST to other States DIMAPUR, APR 28 (NPN): Confederation of Nagaland Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CNCCI) has taken a serious note of many traders allegedly indulging in the unethical practice of getting their GST registered in other States, especially in neighbouring States, and paying GST to those States while importing in bulk for supply, retail and reselling in Nagaland. CNCCI chairman Dr Khekugha Muru and general secy. Dr Seyievilie Mor also claimed that it had come to their knowledge that many establishments were purchasing in bulk off the counter from other States by pay-
ing GST to those State and importing to Nagaland for supply, retailing and resell. Noting that many godowns, distributors, wholesalers etc. had mushroomed in neighbouring towns, it clarified that while they had no objection to such a development, the crux of the matter was most of them paid GST to other States while conveniently wholesaling and distributing their products in Nagaland through small private cargo vans/ vehicles throughout the day. In all the three cases, they claimed that it impacted GST revenue of Nagaland. While the exact amount of revenue losses
could not be ascertained at this point of time, they said they were convinced that it ran into several crores of rupees annually. CNCCI warned such business establishments and traders that they would not hesitate to take stern action against them and also report to appropriate authorities to initiate action against them. They reasoned with such business houses and traders that since their principal place of business was Nagaland and were availing benefits like roads, electricity, security, sanitation, etc, from the State, it should be their responsibility to pay GST to Nagaland for development,
services and facilities. Appreciating the Department of Taxes for being able to adapt to GST regime at ease despite many difficulties and for being every ready to help the business community, they stressed that GST revenue generation was the most important component for State fiscal health. Therefore, they request the department to double their efforts on the three areas to improve GST revenue collection. It also directed all confederate district chambers to be vigilant of unethical businesses practices and assured the department of Taxes that CNCCI would extend all cooperation if needed.
college in Karbi Anglong and also launched 2,985 ‘Amrit Sarovar’ projects across Assam. The Rs 1000-crore projects for Karbi Anglong will give new opportunities to youths, particularly those who have returned to the mainstream to participate in the nation-building process, the PM said. “These foundations are not just that of any building or institution but are the foundations for the bright future of the youths of Karbi Anglong,” he said. come to a logical end. DUCCF also demanded that the state government explain to its citizens of Dimapur as to why the public were not receiving their monthly quota of kerosene oil. and amounting to approximately Rs 3.56 crore annually in energy bills. In its step towards “GoGreen” mission, it has also successfully commissioned 585 kWp of rooftop solar systems at various railway stations and other service

DIMAPUR, APR 28 (NPN): Western Sumi Hoho and Western Sümi Kükami Hoho have sought the intervention of the state government to resolve the KiyeviLamhai boundary issue. In a press note, WSH through its media cell demanded immediate attention of the state government on the Kiyevi-Lamhai boundary issue “before it becomes volatile as in the past.” WSH claimed that there has been “a heavy encroachment going on with sophisticated weapons at the disputed side where the state government ordered to maintain a status quo between the disputed parties.”
WSH alleged that new encroachments were taking place even despite deployment of IRB personnel at the site and the state government’s June 25, 2019 order. “The situation has become very tense once again and could explode out anytime. The WSH therefore urges the state government to intervene without any bias and settle the issue without delay,” WSH said, adding that the hoho would not be held responsible for any untoward incident that may rise up from this issue. WSKH: Western Sümi Kükami Hoho (WSKH) has appealed to the state government to look into issue of
land encroachment at Kiyevi village and resolve the matter at the earliest. This was among the two-point resolution adopted during the emergency meeting, attended by WSKH executive members; WSKH advisory board; area chairman/member and WSKH ex-presidents held at WSH office on April 28 in connection with the land encroachment scuffle, WSKH general secy. Kughato Awomi stated. WSKH said that failing to address the issue by the government would compel Zeliang and Sümi tribe to resolve the matter within their own customary law and that the government
would not be allowed to intervene during such time. While stating that there was “no land in Western Sümi areas that is yet to be developed”, WSKH said that “any individual/group carrying out development works within Western Sümi areas, with the permission of Western Sümi is acceptable but carrying out any development works without the permission attracts conflicts.” Therefore, it said that in order to avoid such conflicts among Naga brothers, WSKH has appealed the particular tribal hohos to look into the matter and recall/retrieve those land encroachers.
already decided to continue with their pre-poll alliance forged in 2018 on a seat sharing formula of 40 (NDPP) and 20 (BJP). Senior BJP party sources also informed that the alliance (NDPP/BJP) would continue, as it was made clear by the Central leadership. Talking about the Naga political issue, Dr. Lieziestu said that the government of India would never agree to a “piecemeal” or “separate settlement” for different groups over the same issue. He said the two Naga political groups ought to come to an understanding and “we (political parties) are appealing them to come together because the Government of India will never have piecemeal or separate settlements”. “Our main job now is to bring together the two conflicting groups to form a common front otherwise the Indian government may not continue to have separate talks for a final solution to the Naga political issue,” Liezietsu said.
Congress alleges `4600 crore food scam under BJP NEW DELHI, APR 28 (PTI): Congress on Thursday alleged a Rs 4,600-crore food scam, which, it said, has exposed the “real face” of the Modi government as the party demanded a full disclosure as well as punishment for those involved. At a press conference, Congress spokesperson Abhishek Singhvi alleged the government changed the rules of auction in 2018 under a scheme to provide pulses of Rs 4,600 crore to the poor and the armed forces only to “benefit a few big millers”. He claimed the CAG has found how by NAFED “allowed” big millers to “swindle” tonnes of pulses meant for the poor with the conventional auction rules rewritten. Congress leader claimed it was a “huge scam”. “I don’t think the facts are out before us. I don’t think that this is possibly even a part of the iceberg. We call upon the government to make a full disclosure immediately,” he said and demanded a comprehensive report on how this was allowed and punishment at the highest levels. “We condemn this and call upon the public to condemn it. Above all, this shows the true nature of this government,” Singhvi said.
