DIMAPUR, JUL 2 (NPN): Confirming reports of several cases of rabies in Dimapur, the department of animal husbandry & veterinary services has admitted the deaths of two persons of suspected rabies in June this year. According to Veterinary Surgeon, district veterinary hospital Dimapur, Dr. KN Zubemo Humtsoe, the two deceased – a mother and son- residing at Rilan village, were diagnosed with rabies on June 9. cal office (CMO) Dimapur. Dr. Humtsoe said that after the deaths, he along with veterinary assistant surgeon Dr.Vikshe Sumi visited Rilan village on June 24 and collected report from village council chairman and secretary. Border issue: CNTC flays ‘high-handedness’ of Assam police Urges State govt to review interim agreement on boundary issue DIMAPUR, JUL 2 (NPN): Central Nagaland Tribes Council (CNTC) has strongly condemned the alleged high-handedness of Assam Police and Assam forest department by wilfully trying to usurp and occupy traditional land of Nagas at Vikuto village under Tzurnagkong range in Mokokchung district. In a statement, the

council said this was just one of the many such instances where Nagas were being provoked in their own land, adding that their restraint to avoid any violence had been taken for granted. Ever since the creation of Nagaland, CNTC said Assam had awlays been having border issues with the Nagaland. It pointed out that Assam also had border problems with its other neighbours like Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya and Mizoram, which speaks a lot for itself. According to the council, this was not the only in-

cident where authorities and people from Assam tried to provoke the peace-loving Naga people and occupy their lands from Khelma side in Peren district to Tizit in Mon district. Pointing out that there was no clear demarcated boundary between the two States, for which a litigation has been pending before Supreme Court since the last 33 years, CNTC warned that if the people and authorities of Assam failed to accept this fact, they would not only invite contempt of court but even more “unwarranted tension” between people of the two States like

the 1984 “Merapani War”. Demanding that the state government should immediately initiate appropriate steps to review the interim agreement between the two States on boundary issue, CNTC also strongly urged the government to be vociferous on the issue. TNYF files FIR: Meanwhile, Tzurnagkong Naga Youth Front president Bendangwati and general secretary Shiluyongdang in a statement said that the front had lodged an FIR against a local news channel in connection with the recent border incident. The department cautioned that such acts would attract the provisions of Rule 4(1)(iii) and Rule 19 of the Nagaland Government Servants Conduct Rules, 1968. The department reiterated that every government servant making a representation should do so separately and in his/her own name. It stated that making of joint representations by government servants in matters of common interest would be viewed as subversive of discipline and would not be entertained.

This is it!

(NMA) has expressed deep concern over the extension of the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, 1958 in Nagaland and the alleged role of the State in allowing “this draconian law” to be extended without any protest. In a representation addressed to the chief minister, NMA president Abei-ü Meru and joint secretary Malsawmthangi Leyri questioned the extension of the AFSPA at a time when there was no armed confrontation and all Naga political groups and the people were

an atmosphere of distrust and indicated the “total helplessness” of the State police force, which it described was “very misleading.” NMA stated that the cases of extortion and other disturbances, which were under purview of the State police, should not be the reason for citing such an extension. NMA has, therefore, appealed to the government to reconsider their stand and move for repeal of the AFSPA at the earliest “if peace is to be sustained for the Naga future.”

tigating the NPF over the timing of the representation to Nagaland Governor, NPF Legislature Party (NPFLP) spokesman Imkong L. Imchen has clarified that its statements were strictly based on the spheres of the governance of the state headed by the chief minister. It therefore asked the ruling party to read and understand at least some of the pertinent constitutional laws of India and Rules of the Executive Business framed under Article 166 of the Constitution of India for, political parties were expected to deliver public service with honesty and integrity.

Reiterating its demand that the governor should invoke his constitutional competencies and grant necessary prosecution sanctions to a competent Central investigating agency to book the culprits, the opposition party also pointed out to NDPP that the PDA government would get dislodged by its own weight and contradictions, and not due to its pressure as it was not interested in toppling governments. “Look, why should I mix plastic with rice? I’m neither a farmer nor a packer.”

NMA asserted that the Government of India seemed “insensitive to the sufferings and trauma” that “this inhuman Draconian Law” had brought over the decades to the Naga populace. “Justice is still to be seen in the pending cases of such violation of human rights,” NMA stated. NMA said leaders were expected to be equally sensitive to “our history of suffering under this dreaded Act” and ensure that AFSPA was lifted and not extended again and again. It said that re-

CoWIN registration, walk-in allowed

NEW DELHI, JUL 2 (AGENCIES): Pregnant women can now register on the CoWIN platform or visit vaccination centres for COVID-19 shots, the government said on Friday, adding that it had shared rules and procedures with states to roll out the programme. Signalling a major policy shift that follows growing concern over exposure of expectant mothers (and their children) to the Coro-

navirus, the Union Health Ministry said last Friday that pregnant women “can and should” be vaccinated against COVID-19. Until as recently as last month lactating women were eligible for the vaccine but pregnant women were not; the government had said this was due to a lack of safety and efficacy data since clinical trials for vaccines do not typically include pregnant women as participants.
