DJS celebrates birth anniversary of Lord Mahavira

DIMAPUR: Dimapur Jain Samaj (DJS) celebrated the 2621st birth anniversary of the 24th Tirthankar Lord Mahavira on April 3-4 in the presence of lady monks Garimamati Mataji and Gambhirmati Mataji along with 4 more lady monks (Chhullika).

A press release by DJS informed that the lady monks arrived on March 26 and was expected to stay for at least six months.

KUK president, H Angnyei Konyak delivered the welcome address while L Nyamnyei Konyak extended the greetings. Renovation at Phezoucha Govt. Middle School

DIMAPUR: Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha), Tokheho Yepthomi underscored the importance of coordination between departments and identifying the villages, and beneficiaries for effective implementation of central schemes.

According to a DIPR report, the MP, who is also the chairperson of District Development Co- ordination and Monitoring Committee (DISHA), was addressing the officers at DISHA meeting held at the Conference Hall of Deputy Commissioner (DC) Nuiland, office on April 3.

Tokheho also encouraged the departments to sensitise the public on various central schemes so that the grass root level could avail the benefits.

He reminded that the committee was set up to monitor the efficient and time bound development of centrally sponsored schemes all over the state.

The MP also advised the gathering to adapt with change of time and challenges.

During the meeting, the department of Food & Civil Supplies, Social Welfare, Agriculture, Horticulture, Medical, Education R&B, PHED, RD and Land Resources gave detailed presentation of central schemes implementation from the year 2018- 2022.

The committee members also deliberated on various schemes and implementation in the district.

Highlights of the birth anniversary celebration included regular discourse from the two lady monks. The samaj informed that many Jain tourists from whole over India would be visiting Nagaland during the occasion for religious pilgrimage.

Various Jain organisations of Dimapur viz. Digamber Jain Samaj, Mahila Samaj, Jivan Jyoti, Sanmati Mahila Parishad, Jain Ahinsa Samiti, Veer Kanya Manch, Namokar Vikas Mandal and Jain Yuvak Sangh participated in the procession and other activities along with all the Jains, including the Oswal Samaj.

During the celebration, many programmes were organised at Dimapur Jain Temple, Mahavir Bhawan and Jain School.

KOHIMA, APR 4 (NPN): A community funded project where extension of two classrooms and renovation of school building at Government Middle School (GMS), Phezoucha, New Secretariat area, L. Khel Kohima village, was inaugurated by advisor for School Education & SCERT, Dr Kekhrielhoulie Yhome, here on Tuesday. In his speech, Yhome, hoped that with the cooperation of everyone, Department of School Education (DoSE) would be able to look after the 1,939 government schools across the State that were in need of attention and be able to review the status of those schools in the state.

He pointed out that although there were schools all over the state, not every school enjoy the community support like that of GMS Phezoucha.

In this regard, he expressed happiness on the leadership quality exhibited by the school led by head teacher Supeno Mozhui.

ing of the community-care with the involvement of the school teachers, SMC and the public at GMS Phezoucha was appreciative. The newly appointed education advisor informed that several outsiders were showing interest to invest in the education sector in Nagaland through their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) therefore, DoSE would soon open a dedicated CSR cell.

School Managament Committee (SMC) chairman Dr Ketshukietuo Dzüvichü, said that the school commenced in 2005 and had been awarded the best performing GPS in 2011.

Later, it was upgraded to GMS in 2021 and therefore required more classrooms, he said pointing out that initially the SMC sought funding from the department but could not materialize and so they decided to rise local funding from agencies and well-wishers.

He said that the school had started Class 7 and 8 from this academic session but due to lack of classroom capacity many were denied admission.

Commissioner & secretary Kevileno Angami, mission director, Samagra Shiksha, Temsunaro Aier, principal director, Thavasaleen K, director Want- hungo Tsopoe, joint mission director, Samagra, Dr Kevizakie Rio were also present on the occasion. It may be mentioned here that the two room extension and renovation of the GMS building was done with the generous contribution of around Rs 8.25 lakh by well-wishers, church, colony members, 17 teachers of the school and through fund drive measures undertaken by the SMC of the school without waiting on government funding. The school has an enrollment of 176 students including 91 girls and 85 boys, with 17 teachers, along with head teacher.

Governor visits State Museum

DIMAPUR: Felicitation programmes for the newly elected legislators continue to be organised by respective departments.

DoE: Department of Evaluation organised a felicitation programme for advisor, information technology & communication, economics & statistics and evaluation, Sethrongkyu at Directorate Conference Hall, Kohima, Tuesday.

In his speech, Sethrongkyu emphasised on the sincerity of employee in discharging one’s assigned duty so as to assist the government in serving the people of the state.

DoTE: Department of Technical Education (DoTE) organised a felicitation programme in honour of advisor for transport and technical education, Temjenmenba on April 3 at the Directorate Auditorium, Kohima.

According to a DIPR report, in his speech, Tem- jenmenba stressed on the importance of technical education in the state and its vital role in creating employability opportunities for diploma pass-out students. He urged the department to apply critical thought processes in planning and execution of various program to achieve larger goals. Temjenmenba reminded the department to focus more on research and development, placement of students and partnering with private players. During the programme, director, technical education, Er. Vipulhou Lhoungu highlighted the various activities and programs of the department. The programme was chaired by commissioner and secretary, higher & technical education, Kenilo Apon, while vote of thanks was proposed by additional director, Tiakaba Amer. The program was attended by joint secretary, higher and technical education, principals of the polytechnics and the officers and staff from the directorate of technical education.

NLA: A felicitation programme for Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) Speaker, Sharingain Longkumer was organised by the officers and staff of NLA secretariat on April 3 at the Conference Hall, Assembly Secretariat.

DIMAPUR: A one-day faculty exchange programme was organized between Phek Government College and Pfutsero Government College on April 4, in fulfillment of an MoU signed between the two institutions. The faculty exchange programme was jointly organized by IQAC (Internal Quality Assurance Cell) of Phek Government College and IQAC of Pfutsero Government College.

A total of nine Assistant Professors from six Arts departments – English, Education, Economics, History, Political Science, and Tenyidie, from Pfutsero College interacted with the students and teaching fraternity.

In conclusion, Phek Government College, Principal, Dr. T. Tiakaba Jamir, expressed gratitude to the faculty team from Pfutsero Government College. He also encouraged the teaching fraternity from both colleges to organize more collaborative activities in the future.
