Modi working for development of India Covid death toll highest in world: WHO remote cities, towns & villages: MoS
India objects; says methodology is questionable
cludes deaths directly due to Covid19 disease or indirectly due to the pandemic’s impact on health systems and society. It is calculated as the difference between the number of deaths that have occurred and the number that would be expected in the absence of pandemic based on data from earlier years. WHO has also released the methodology followed by it to arrive at these numbers. It said the information was either reported directly by the states through official reports and automatic vital registration, or by journalists who obtained death registration information through RTI. A statement from the Union Health Ministry said India has been ‘consistently objecting’ to the methodology adopted by WHO to project excess mortality estimates based on mathematical models. “Despite India’s
objection to the process, methodology and outcome of this modelling exercise, WHO has released the excess mortality estimates without adequately addressing India’s concerns,” the Health Ministry said. Owing to its large area, diversity and a population of 1.3 billion which witnessed variable severity of the pandemic both across space and time, India consistently objected to the use of “one size fits all” approach and model, which may be applicable to smaller countries but cannot be applicable to India, it said. In spite of these differences, India continued to collaborate and coordinate with WHO on this exercise and multiple formal communications -- 10 times from November 2021 to May 2022 -- as well as numerous virtual interactions were held with the global body.
D I M A P U R , M AY 5 (NPN): Union Minster of State for Electronics &IT and Skill Development & Entrepreneurship Rajeev Chandrasekhar has claimed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s team was working relentlessly with State and local self-governments for development of remote cities, towns and villages like Longwa. He said this while interacting with residents of border village Longwa and members of village council. Currently on a threeday tour, Chandrasekhar started his day-2 by visiting District Civil Hospital at Mon and interacted with doctors and other frontline workers who played a critical role in fighting Covid pandemic in the district. He said the Centre had approved a Rs 350-crore medical college project for (Cont’d on p-8) boosting healthcare facilities
NEW DELHI, MAY 5 (AGENCIES): Nearly 4.7 million people died in India because of Covid-19, either directly due to the disease or indirectly due its impact on health systems and the society, said a World Health Organization’s (WHO) report on Thursday. The number of deaths is 10-times more than given by India’s government, which rejected the WHO’s report. India has officially recorded 481,486 Covid19 deaths between January 1 2020 and December 31, 2021. Therefore, the WHO estimates put that figure at nearly 10-times the official estimates, and basically imply that India accounts for
about a third of the Covid19 deaths across the world. WHO report pegs the deaths related to Covid19 at 47, 40,894 during 2020 and 2021. It said that the full death toll associated directly or indirectly with Covid-19

Modi called upon the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) to develop its deployment plan in floodaffected states. “Active use of social media for sensitization of communities has to be widely adopted,” Modi said according to the statement. Modi also directed officials that in view of upcoming monsoons, arrangements for monitoring the quality of drinking water need to be ensured to avoid contamination and spread of water-borne diseases. D I M A P U R , M AY 5 (NPN): Chümoukedima Town Youth Organisation (CTYO) has appealed to the state government to bring Chümoukedima district under the ambit of Inner Line Permit (ILP) regime. In a press release, CTYO president Hovise Naleo and general secretary Avi Makritsu stated that even after the government issued notification dated December 9, 2019 for extending the ILP to the entire undivided Dimapur district, the order was yet to be implemented. CTYO has, therefore, urged upon the state government to expedite the process of implementing the ILP system.

For mation of new unions: CTYO has appealed to the general public not to form any new unions/organizations that could only add burden on the public in Chümoukedima town. CTYO observed that after the formation of Chümoukedima district many new unions and organizations have come up and this has only cast doubts about the genuineness or motive behind the formation of some of them. It has urged all responsible to follow the guidelines through proper channel if they need to form a genuine one after thorough consultation with all stakeholders.
No to taxation: The youth body pointed out that multiple elements have begun to emerge again solely for the purpose of collection of “tax”. It said this has only caused hardship to business community and general public of Chümoukedima town. CTYO warned that antisocial elements would not be tolerated, and strict action would be taken against those indulging in unlawful demands. CTYO also reaffirmed that it will remain steadfast on the declaration of “One government, one taxation”. It reminded that citizens of Chümoukedima unanimously resolved to pay tax to
only one entity as per of February 13, 2014 resolution. Peace under Chuümou: CTYO reiterated that it would not tolerate any activities that disrupted the peace of Chümoukedima town. CTYO cautioned that it would strictly deal with those drinking in public places and indulging in substance abuse, rowdy and intoxicated behaviour, loud music during the wee hours etc. CTYO has asked business establishments to check their inventory for expired goods and refrain from selling such items or any items beyond the MRP. CTYO warned of strict action against defaulters.
D I M A P U R , M AY 5 (NPN): Forum for Naga Reconciliation (FNR) has reaffirmed that there must be no miscarriage of justice and truth must be told for justice to be delivered in Oting and Mon incidents on December 4 and 5, 2021 respectively that claimed lives of 14 innocent civilians. Stressing that investigation and its findings were a matter of public interest, the forum in a statement demanded that Special Investigation Team (SIT) report must be made public to ensure that justice prevailed

of the border district with Central assistance to the tune of around Rs 292 crore. Thereafter, he travelled to Longwa village, where he was warmly received by members of village council led by its chairman Amao Angh, vice-chairman C Noklem Konyak and S Yona Pastor among others. The minister reviewed the progress of development and welfare schemes in Mon district with deputy com-
and as a gesture of transparency and accountability to the affected families and community. It also called for revealing the perpetrators’ role in the violence committed with impunity under the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA). FNR regretted that after five months since SIT investigation was initiated, the State government had made no official statement about the status of the SIT probe or its report with various political leaders having commented that the delay was due to the awaited fo-
missioner, superintendent of police and other district administration officials. He directed the officials to focus saturating key schemes so that all benefits were made available to every beneficiary and no one was left behind. He also asked the authorities to prepare a detailed District Skill Development Plan by mapping local skills and market. (Cont’d on p-8)
rensic reports. Alleging that the government’s handling of the investigation was disingenuous and lacked political sincerity and integrity, it said the inaction had further traumatised the affected family members and community, while deepening people’s distrust. Declaring that it stood firmly in solidarity with Konyak people through Konyak Union (KU) and Konyak civil society organisations (CSOs), FNR insisted that the government must act (Cont’d on p-8)
Cancel TL of unauthorised NSU cautions illegal timber operations Covid spread 1,000 times more optical shops: H&FW deptt likely from air than surfaces
D I M A P U R , M AY 5 (NPN): Health & Family Welfare (H&FW) department has asked municipal authorities to cancel the trade license (TL) of those optical shops run by unqualified persons. In a notification dated April 28, the department also requested municipal authorities to not issue TL to anybody without valid registration certificate of ophthalmologists with NMC registration and Nagaland Optometric Association. The department observed that there were many
optical shops operating in the state without qualified eye care professional. It said that those optical shops were dispensing power glasses without the help of eye care professionals such as ophthalmologists, optometrists and ophthalmic assistants. H&FW said that such act is illegal as wrong prescription of power glasses could permanently endanger the eye sight. The department also observed that most of those shops were operating with mere trade license issued by municipal authorities.
D I M A P U R , M AY 5 (NPN): Nkio Students’ Union (NSU) has warned all “illegal timber” operators within its jurisdiction, to stop further extraction of timber and exploitation of natural vegetation and forest cover, in compliance with decision of civil society organisations’ (CSOs). In a statement, NSU claimed that the Forest department had approved a working scheme for timber operation with an extension only to three village councils in Peren district– New Ngaulong (20-21 to 24-25), Lalong village (2020-21 to 22-23), and Paikolom
(2017,2018,2021-2022) – and hence, there was no existing working scheme under Nkio jurisdiction. Consequently, it demanded that all tree extraction being conducted unabated under Nkio must be discontinued promptly. NSU also alleged that timber extraction in Nkio were being carried out under the cover of “tree farms” to cloak the illegal extraction of forest trees. NSU also disclosed that spider web-like roads were being constructed inside deep forests that served no purpose for public utility but only to hasten the destruction of irreplaceable
natural vegetation. The union said such indiscriminate destruction of forests and rampant illegal activities clearly indicated the hyper-negligence of the Forest department in executing its duty. NSU asked what was the forest department doing when such illegal activities were being carried out under their nose and whether or not, it was the duty of the department to inspect the site and take appropriate action? NSU also asked the department on whether it was only waiting for public outcry to carry out its responsibility (Cont’d on p-8)

For air samples, Xi and colleagues used wetted wall cyclone bioaerosol samplers, which suck in large volumes of air using a pump and capture any virus particles in the air. For surfaces, researchers used swab kits. Overall, between August 2020 and April 2021, the researchers collected 256 air samples and 517 surface samples. (Cont’d on p-8)

3 NBSE informs heads SBAK (Nito Mount) mission of institutions on SUPs conference concludes DIMAPUR: With a view to eradicate the environmental and ecological challenges posed by rampant use of plastics, Nagaland Board of School Education (NBSE) has notified all the heads of registered institutions that in pursuance of the state government notification dated March 11, all schools have been informed for proper dissemination of awareness on plastic waste management with regard to ban of Single-Use Plastics (SUPs). In a notification, NBSE informed that SUPs otherwise known as disposable plastic items were non-biodegradable and therefore contaminated the environment. While stating that single use plastics mostly ended up in landfill sites, NBSE informed that it might take years to decompose and potentially leak pollutants into the soil and water. “If plastic wastes are not properly disposed of, they get carried away by wind as litter or washed away by rain or travel via storm drains into rivers and streams which pose a threat to the environment and human health”, the board stated. In this regard, all the institutions have been directed to inform and educate the students about the impacts of disposal of wastes from plastics and plastic products which could lead to human health hazards, environmental pollution including natural environment beauty deterioration, entanglement and death of aquatic organisms, sewage system blockage etc., and to adopt measures to avoid its usage. Further, as given in the academic calendar 2022, all heads of institutions have been asked to take measures to practice plastic free campus and advocate elimination of single use plastic items.

Prashant announces ‘Jan Suraaj’ platform
PATNA, MAY 05 (PTI): Celebrated election strategist Prashant Kishor on Thursday announced that he has had his fill as a backroom operator for leading political players of the country and that he now intended to create a platform of like-minded people named ‘Jan Suraaj’ aimed at transforming his home state Bihar. While he br ushed aside speculation that he would announce the setting up of a new party, Kishor held out the possibility of Jan Suraaj metamorphosing into a political party at a latter stage. He said he was in touch with “about 18,000 people” who shared his vision for Bihar and whom he will “try to meet personally”, before launching a 3,000km ‘padyatra’ (march) from
Prashant Kishor Gandhi Ashram at Champaran on the Mahatma’s birthday, October 2. Kishor came out with an outline of his project, titled ‘Jan Suraaj’, drawing inspiration from Gandhi’s aphorism of “the best politics is right action”, at a crowded press conference here, days after he had announced his decision to go back “to the Real Masters – the people”. “A political par ty
can be floated even a few months ahead of elections. Bihar faces none in the next few years,” Kishor said averting pointed questions about his future political moves. “I plan to cover a distance of 3,000 km in about a year. I will travel to every nook and corner of the state and meet as many people as possible, trying to learn from their grievances and aspirations,” he said. Kishor, who founded the political consultancy IPAC and who has worked with both Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and his arch rival Lalu Prasad, credited the two leaders with achievements in terms of social and economic empowerment in the last three decades. “Still, it is undeniable that Bihar continues to be
at the bottom in terms of all development indices. The state needs a new political alternative,” said Kishor. He asserted that he will henceforth will be “fully devoted, with all my powers” to his cause and clarified that his previous venture “Baat Bihar Ki”, which appeared similar to ‘Jan Suraaj’, was shelved because of the global COVID-19 pandemic that struck soon afterwards. “Skeptics may ask how could I then collaborate with Mamata Banerjee last year. But in West Bengal I had to work with an established machinery. In Bihar the idea is to come up with an entirely new set up,” he underscored. Kishor ducked queries as to whether he fancied himself as the Chief Ministerial candidate after
he formed a party but debunked the suggestion that being a Brahmin placed him at a disadvantage in caste-ridden Bihar where politics has been dominated by OBCs since the Mandal agitation. “It is a myth that in Bihar your vote garnering abilities depend upon the population of the caste you belong to. The biggest vote catcher in Bihar today is, undoubtedly, Narendra Modi. How many people are there in the state who belong to his caste,” asked Kishor, who first shot into prominence after he was credited with handling Modi’s spectacularly successful campaign in 2014 Lok Sabha polls. In the hard-nosed political circles of Bihar, though, Kishor’s averment was taken with a pinch of salt.

Navneet Rana MUMBAI, MAY 5 (PTI): Independent MP Navneet Rana and her-MLA husband Ravi Rana walked out of jail on Thursday, a day after a Mumbai court granted them bail, more than a week after they were arrested in an alleged case of sedition. After they were granted bail on Wednesday, the necessary documents had not timely reached the prisons where they were lodged. On Thursday, Navneet Rana, the Lok Sabha memer from Amravati in Maharashtra, came out of the Byculla women’s jail in south Mumbai around 2 pm, an official said. She waved at media persons and then headed for suburban Bandra in a police escort. Navneet Rana’s lawyer told mediapersons that the MP was unwell,
her blood pressure had increased, she had bodyache and spondylitis. She will be taken to a private hospital for a check-up and doctors will decide further course of treatment, the lawyer said. Later, the parliamentarian’s husband Ravi Rana, the MLA from Badnera in Amravati, was also released from the Taloja jail in neighbouring Navi Mumbai around 4 pm. The bail box of the jail opened at 3.30 pm following which his release formalities were completed, the official said. Heavy security was deployed outside the Taloja jail, he added. The Rana couple was arrested on April 23 by the Khar police here under sections 124 (A) (sedition) and 153 (A) (promoting enmity between different groups) of the Indian Penal Code. The couple had announced that they would recite the Hanuman Chalisa outside Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray’s private residence `Matoshree’ here, which angered workers of the Shiv Sena, Thackeray’s party, leading to tension.

The Chief Minister also alleged that Amit Shah visited the state to unnecessarily drag the Border Security Force (BSF) into dirty politics. While addressing the media persons, West Bengal CM said she respects the BSF but it should not fall under Amit Shah`s trap. “ T h e C o m mu n i s t Party of India (Marxist) is BJP`s linkman. They believe in doing `tukda`. But they want to divorce Hindus and Muslims, they want to divide communities. As the Home Minister of the country, he has only misused the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). He is bringing the Delhi danga to Bengal,” said Banerjee.

SILIGURI (WB)/ KOLKATA, MAY 5 (PTI/ AGENCIES): Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday asserted that the BJP would not rest till it uprooted the tyrannical rule of the TMC and restored democracy in Bengal. Addressing a public rally in Siliguri town of North Bengal, he also said that the saffron party would continue to fight against the ‘cut-money’ culture (extortion), corruption and political violence. Shah accused the ruling TMC in Bengal of “spreading canards” about the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, and said that the law would be implemented once the COVID-19 pandemic ended. “I want to thank the people of north Bengal for raising BJP’s tally in Bengal Assembly to 77 from three. The BJP won’t rest till it uprooted the TMC’s tyrannical rule. “We had hoped that Mamata Banerjee would rectify herself after being voted to power for the third time. We waited for an entire year for her to rectify herself, but she didn’t change. It is the ruler’s law that prevails in the state,” he stated. The Union home minister claimed that Banerjee always misled Gorkhas for vested political interests. “Didi has always misled Gorkha brothers and sisters. I have come today to tell them that if there is one party that thinks in the interest of Gorkhas, it is the

Building castles in the air

hen neighbouring states around are experiencing fast-paced development of infrastructure and economic activities, Dimapur appears to have been grounded as things that should have happened have not happened. For decades the commercial capital of Nagaland has merely existed and no significant effort made to improve the environment so that it could take its rightful place as among the top cities in the north east. Roads linking Dimapur with Assam, till the inter-state check gates are well maintained. However, roads in Dimapur are showing signs of deterioration while national highways in Assam have attained the status of super highways either four-lane or six-lane. Even neighbouring Diphu, the district headquarters of Karbi Anglong appears to be over taking Dimapur in terms of development. Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is determined to transform Karbi Anglong and intentionally or not, it will pose a direct competition with Dimapur. There are plans to transform Diphu and Bokajan railway station with ultra modern facilities with several passenger platforms. The Assam government has shown its determination by bulldozing illegal structure to evict the encroachers without any leniency. Diphu and Bokajan and to an extent Dhansiri stations will soon rise to a much higher level than that of Dimapur. More passenger platforms will mean these railway stations will have stoppage of dozens of long distance trains. Dimapur has two platforms but one cannot have a canopy because there is no space. Though Dimapur is the second highest revenue earner for the Northeast Frontier Railways(NFR) its growth has stagnated for want of land to construct the canopy as well as lay additional rail tracks for stationary passenger trains. A Greenfield airport is to come up at the fringe of Diphu, the official headquarter of Karbi Anglong autonomous district. The airport will fly passengers to Guwahati and could be connected with Dimapur and other airports in the north east. Even in this case, expansion and development of Dimapur airport has been severely hampered by encroachments and allotments of lands near the airport. Due to failure of the state government to tackle this problem, Dimapur airport has been deprived of modernisation. Air passengers emplaning at Dimapur have to walk to board their flight and on rainy days, have to reach the plan on a bus. Since expansion of Dimapur airport could not be done due to lack of area or due to encroachment airports such as Dibgrugarh and Jorhat grew. Dibrugarh airport has two aerobridges and situated over 386 acres and the length of the runway is 7500 feet. Dimapur airport has been reduced to an area of around 300 acres out of the 621.58 acres acquired by the government. Rail connectivity in Nagaland is acutely inadequate to serve the rising number of passengers. Instead, Dimapur railway station is eventually going to be abandoned in terms of development since a double track cannot be constructed due to rampant encroachment. Assam has six airports and others such as a proposed airport at Diphu is underway. The state government since 2003 has shown no interest either in developing Dimapur airport or ensuring eviction of encroachers from railway lands for expansion of facilities. Unless Dimapur is developed, Nagaland will face uphill task in economic development as this requires prioritising objectives based on economic ground realities and not other considerations.
DailyDevotion Judgment and the Love of God
The time has come for judgment to begin at the house of God… —1 Peter 4:17
The Christian servant must never forget that salvation is God’s idea, not man’s; therefore, it has an unfathomable depth. Salvation is the great thought of God, not an experience. Experience is simply the door through which salvation comes into the conscious level of our life so that we are aware of what has taken place on a much deeper level. Never preach the experience— preach the great thought of God behind the experience. When we preach, we are not simply proclaiming how people can be saved from hell and be made moral and pure; we are conveying good news about God. In the teachings of Jesus Christ the element of judgment is always brought out— it is the sign of the love of God. Never sympathize with someone who finds it difficult to get to God; God is not to blame. It is not for us to figure out the reason for the difficulty, but only to present the truth of God so that the Spirit of God will reveal what is wrong. The greatest test of the quality of our preaching is whether or not it brings everyone to judgment. When the truth is preached, the Spirit of God brings each person face to face with God Himself. If Jesus ever commanded us to do something that He was unable to equip us to accomplish, He would be a liar. And if we make our own inability a stumbling block or an excuse not to be obedient, it means that we are telling God that there is something which He has not yet taken into account. Every element of our own self-reliance must be put to death by the power of God. The moment we recognize our complete weakness and our dependence upon Him will be the very moment that the Spirit of God will exhibit His power.

Post-mortem
Schools, Colleges, Universities unite for better tomorrow
“The teacher could never be ordinary. Both, construction and destruction, belongs to him.” -Vishnugupta (375 BCE-283 BCE), ancient Indian polymath who was active as a teacher, author, strategist, philosopher, economist, jurist, and royal advisor. Everything that I have ever written and spoken in my life has always had a base of reality. My Poems and Stories and all other pieces of writing shines in the glory and darkness of my world. I cannot construct fairy tales, but what I can simply do is to remain as an unbreakable, tall and huge mirror to reflect ‘nudity’ of the society that I am part of. I take pride in my profession and everything else that I do. Profession of a Teacher was never an ordinary profession. To, those who think it’s ordinary and to those who joined this profession as a last resort-with due respect, I have great pity. At present, I am writing at my desk at Tetso College while deriving inspiration from colleagues around in the staff room. I am familiar with the academic world of our region. My students taught me many things about the primary and secondary education system here. I personally visited many schools and colleges in remotest of the regions in Nagaland to understand how they function. Through my experiences what I have understood that there are many issues and challenges that the students in Nagaland have been encountering. Even in 2022, our Naga students have to experience and suffer from the issues like proxy teachers and also unqualified, incompetent, demotivated teaching staff. Moreover, many schools lack basic infrastructure, they fail to equip themselves with state of the art facilities to facilitate students to connect with the changing
dynamics of our country and the world. Even the higher education institutions in Nagaland also suffer from problems like inadequate teaching infrastructure, unprofessional management, meagre remuneration to the teaching staff, lack of innovative outlook and research, inadequate funds, lack of job guaranteed/professional courses etc. However, for me the biggest problem in our education system in India is its outdated model. We are stuck with syllabus, courses and pedagogy which has been totally outdated hence should not have any place and space in the academic culture of our country, however that is another story, since it’s a policy matter therefore deserved to be discussed in depth separately. Schools and Colleges in our region produces toppers. We have Gold Medalists, Rank holders everywhere. We have good number of students passing every year with first class. It’s good. It seems we are part of some sort of a success story however from my perspective this all is a grand illusion. This is not exactly what we think it is. The myth of positive ratio of correlation between School, College, University Rank and Success (it is a relative term which also needs separate discussion however by success here I mean, professional success in terms of material status of a person in the most general terms and understanding which we are taught is necessary to live a dignified life in human society) can be shattered if the data of last 30 years covering School, College and University Rank holders is studied and I predict the results would shocking. The discussion that I am trying to initiate here has a relevance. It has relevance because I feel our society is unique. We are unique not just because we have a
unique history and culture but also our social evolution has been unique as well and therefore our needs are unique too. Consequently, the issues and dynamics of overall education matrix in Nagaland must be taken into consideration if we desire to build a better society and better world for us and our future generations. Nagaland is a land of complications, confusions and questions. Number of issues are there which deserved to be recognized and sorted out. The report on NITI Aayog’s SDG indicates that 73% of the population in Nagaland lives below the national poverty line (we can safely assume that around 14 lakh people are living below the poverty line in our state). The naked, proven reality of ‘Child Labour’ needs to haunt the collective consciousness of our Naga society. The demons of HIV/AIDS, Drugs, invisible prostitution have been lurking around since years. Sin of corruption is widely venerated and celebrated. Governance and Government floating in the bubble of political illusion. Common people have been kept in amnesia by powerful, corrupt, power mongering leaders who ignorantly dream for more wealth, more power at the cost of ‘survival’ of our people. We have no industries here. We have no jobs here. Our state has earned a unique but notorious identity- “a fertile region of government servants where at least one person in family is in a government service who never or in rarest of the rare cases goes to work”. We have tribalism, one tribe does not understand and recognize the other-and we talk about unity. People living at Indo-Myanmar Border- our Khiamniungans are thrown in some distant corner of the state-nobody in Kohima or Dimapur knows how

idespread public denunciation ensued after 14 innocent civilians were killed and many civilians injured by India’s military forces at Oting and Mon on December 4 and 5, 2021. The killings blatantly violated the sanctity of life, breached public trust, and shattered the peaceful atmosphere. The seriousness of the political violence compelled the Government of Nagaland to issue an order on December 5, 2021 constituting a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to “facilitate free and fair investigations” into the case. According to the terms of reference, the SIT investigation was to be completed within one month from the date of registration. Given the heinous nature and implications of the killings, and the public’s response through nonviolent protests for justice, the Government of Nagaland was expected to handle the case without delay and political courage to facilitate justice. Re g r e t t a b ly, a f t e r 5 months since the SIT investigation was initiated, the Government has made no official statement about the status of the SIT investigation or its report. Various political leaders have commented that the delay was due to the awaited forensic reports. The Government of Nagaland’s handling of the investigation is disingenuous, and lacks political sincerity and integrity. This inaction has further traumatized the affected family members, community and deepens the people’s distrust. The Forum for Naga Reconciliation (FNR) affirms there must be no miscarriage of justice, and truth must be told for justice to be delivered. The investigation and its findings are a matter of public interest and in order for justice
to prevail, the SIT report must be made public as a gesture of transparency and accountability to the affected families and community. Also, it needs to reveal the perpetrators’ role in the system of violence sustained with impunity through acts such as the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA). Standing firmly in solidarity with the Konyak people through the Konyak Union (KU) and Konyak Civil Societies, the FNR insists that the Government of Nagaland act immediately upon the SIT report it has already received. Furthermore, the government must fast track the delivery of justice as demanded by the people and as assured by the IGAR (North), Major General Vikas Lakhera, on February 7, 2022 at the Conference Hall of DC Mon. The FNR supports the Konyak Civil Society’s decision to pursue this. Justice will be served after all military personnel involved in the killing of 14 innocent civilians are identified, tried in a court of law, and punished according to the rule of law. In addition, action taken must be put out in public domain and AFSPA must be decisively repealed. By reiterating its position taken to demand justice, fully supported by the Naga public and wider public beyond, the KU has modeled integrity and made an opening for policy strategists in a manner befitting to be straightforward in upholding India’s respected legacy in matters of moral, ethical values of human affairs. The Government of India must not treat lightly its official emblem inherited from Emperor Ashoka – SATYAMEVA JAYATE (Tr uth Alone Triumphs). Issued by Forum for Naga Reconciliation

they live/survive, under what circumstances their generations are growing, nobody cares. Alcohol is flooded in Nagaland, freely available, accessible- drinking alcohol (ALL TYPES AND ALL BRANDS OF ALCOHOL) is visible reality in our Christian state. In this complicated, dangerous circumstances our students were born and surviving. We are living in a state where we are compelled to redefine the core understanding of ‘Governance’. Many of my friends here sometimes ignorantly accused me of being a victim of “Mumbaikar” version of life and development. I feel sad. I am not Mumbaikar, I left Mumbai long back and I consider myself a Naga who does not look- but feel like Naga. The issues that I always speak about are the real issues that our people here have been battling for ages. I do not attempt to be sounding ‘utopian’. I am realist. As a Professor I feel my students have every right to deserve everything that I had in my time as a UG/PG student- nothing more, nothing less. It is a responsibility of a state to take care of my students, but state has been consistently failing. Why should my students come to the streets every time in the month of July-August for their rightful scholarship? Moreover, our tribal visionaries who supposed to be a bridge between state and the people are victims of tribalism and tribalistic views which is actually suffocating my students who are dreaming of a free, egalitarian world. My students cannot breathe in ‘moral prison’ of ‘tribal loyalty and so called obligations’. This is the truth that muffled their voice. What is the future of my Students in Tribal Prisons and worst performing State of Nagaland? If they lose
ne of the biggest challenge for Nagas and tribal communities is finding employment for the educated young. We are essentially non trading communities and lived for centuries on self sustenance and locked out of the outside world. Nagas are primarily warriors first and hunters. For agriculture, there was so much we could forage from the wild and so the little we grew would be rice and few cereals. Money in form of currency was alien to us and we only understood Barter system. Then came the Statehood and Government had to make Salaried Job lucrative to fill in the shortfall. Farmers realised that they could buy one year of harvest with one month salary. This realisation forced them to send their children to school. Nothing wrong with this. The problem happens as we fast forward to now, we are stuck with a long queue for this white collared job which can only absorb 3% of the eligible candidates. The success stories of people who cleared competitive exams after numerous attempts kept the majority of educated youths disengaged with day to day activities. Please understand GOVT. JOB is only created for running the Government and NOT for absorbing all educated youths. The ECONOMY must run the Government. Government cannot run the Economy. Right now even Politicians are running at the mandate of their Party Worker, their supporters and the pressure of Election promises of Government Job for their constituency. Their mind cannot think clearly of Developmental priorities. With 16 districts now in place, How do you draw up a master plan for Development? Who are the stakeholders and what are their Aspirations. Most of the younger generation employed in Government Services look at their job as a Security and are actively engaged in Side Business as Entrepreneurs. Nothing wrong from a distance but if you zoom in, there is a rot brewing. There is no chance for unemployed Youths to compete
their faith in these institutions, they would not be at fault. I observe everything minutely to construct a solution. Education, Political, Social and Legal Institutions are basically the pillars of any society. What is the status of those pillars in our Nagaland? I QUESTION! Consider me here as an Advocate of my students, and on behalf of my students I propose to create a parallel system that would be the most beneficial to them in the most adverse and dreaded circumstances that they have been surviving in Nagaland. The system that I have been visualizing is neither political nor tribal system. The system will actually be selfsufficient if all the participants and operators in the system contribute equally with common vision. I proposed that all Schools, Colleges, Universities (Private, Aided, unaided, Government) to join their hands together and develop some sort of “Consortium” that would be able to collectively take care of the needs of each of the operators. For e.g. say a school in Zunheboto lacks good Mathematics teacher, and Kohima Science College has excellent Maths Professors so in such a situation Kohima Science College can make an arrangement with consent from needy school to help them. The ‘cooperation’ can sort out the problems of infrastructure as well. For e.g. some school in Noklak needs six computers but they do not have sufficient funds to fulfill the requirement, the proposed consortium can take initiative and fulfill the needs. Government institutions may face some technical issues in this kind of arrangement due to their legal status however, they can always support the other participants and operators in proposed con-
The Big Gap
in Business against Government Servants who has financial security and monopoly with Government Contract and network. This keep only one area open for the majority of the unemployed youths - Blue Collared Job. The huge income generating world of Skilled Job and manual labour. Most of the money flowing out of the state is through this sector. But sadly Educated Young feel that the reason for being educated is to lift themselves outside of this zone, into the white collared job. Imagine the mindset of our Local organization, be it Village or Tribe. Every time someone gets a Government Job, there are numerous felicitations which in a way throws a wrong signal. At times, it can be damaging to the fabric of society. It is time to change all this type of nonsensical practice. You cannot glorify Government Job and expect the remaining few to work in Blue Collared domain. The Society, the tribe must ponder on this seriously. Moreover let us look beyond our borders and see how the world operates. In Myanmar, I noticed that there is a uniform for Government Employees and the Director for Urban Development in Yangon and his Receptionist wear the same Blue coloured work cloth. Even in India, Government Employees wear a simple Clerk type of Suit while in Nagaland, sometimes we wear suits like CEOs of big corporations. There must be uniform or dress code for every public sector. There should be uniform for the skill sector. It promotes dignity of Labour. The other disturbing trend is that these days, Elected representative, ministers and advisors hardly operate from the Secretariat and public interviews(mainly for supporters) are conducted from personal residences. This should be minimised. Public must have free access to politicians. There are a few exceptions to politicians who tour their constituency regularly and who throws their doors open to the grievances of their people, God bless them abundantly and we need more
sortium with the expertise of their staff members if not monetary contribution. I could give more examples to simplify my idea. This system that I am trying to visualize will bridge the gap between Schools, Colleges and Universities and the needs of the participants can be mutually taken care by virtue of developing some sort of a common fund. Also, the proposed idea can solve the problem of quality teaching as well, since an academic cooperation and free movement of teachers are possible in this system. MOROEVER, all those things for which funds are not available to the education institutions for any reason my proposed ‘consortium’ can provide. In short I propose- Let there be academic, economic, managerial, infrastructural cooperation among “all” the education institutions In Nagaland without any discrimination or prejudice in the best interest of our students. The future of our students and therefore the upcoming society is in the hands of Academicians not politicians or civil society leaders. History has testified from time to time that a teacher who is a custodian of knowledge can create a new world and bring changes in society as and when necessary. In Nagaland we often talk about change. How will change come, from where? I have an answer. Change will not come from Kohima or New Delhi, but change will come from every School, every College, every university in Nagaland and our teachers have to sacrifice themselves so that on the foundation of their ashes our NAGA students would be able to freely construct the NEW WORLD of their dream. Dr. Aniruddha Babar Dept. of Political Science Tetso College
of them. Each elected representative must learn to feel and understand the pulse of their constituency. Once this is done, then even the LADP fund, utilised innovatively and judiciously, can do wonders. My point is change can happen if each constituency starts working towards change and that starts from a change of mindset. Ever since the cease fire was declared, the UGs became NPGs and they had a fair chance of winning the heart of the Naga public especially the younger generation. Instead the lure of easy money robbed them of all the sacrifices of the genuine National worker. I still look up to a few of them and my heart can feel the pain. How can we be assured of a honourable settlement when we are drugged with easy money, when we are buying even our underpants with GOI handouts. We should have focused on economic sovereignty. Today we are running a salaried economy, a consumer economy without little or insignificant production economy. The young must realise that Change cannot come from the mindset of the Old. Change can come only when we address the disease and pinpoint it. Change can come only when we change our diet and feed on something healthy for Society. Now coming back to the issues of unemployment. Non locals are not taking away our job, we are giving it to them. The Local youth must be employable and not subscribe to the thought of easy money. The best minds should not opt for Government Service but stay in private domain to change the future of Nagaland. There is nothing we cannot change if there is unity. Tribalism is created because of our greed and in our quest for easy money starting from placement in Govt services, Govt contracts, transfer and posting etc. In a private domain especially Production Economy we learn to work with each other. We learn to benefit each other by creating an ecosystem. Think about it. Richard Belho

3 held, 37 detained after scuffle Jodhpur violence: 211 arrested so far between groups in northeast Delhi Mobile internet suspended in Bhilwara as masked men attack 2, set bike ablaze
Police arrest accused in connection with communal clashes in Jodhpur, Thursday. (PTI)
Meanwhile, the state government has extended the curfew imposed in ten police stations of city till May 6 midnight. Internet services shall also remain suspended till further orders, officials said. The curfew has been extended as a precautionary measure, said the DGP, adding that students who need to take exams, are being allowed. On Wednesday, the
Commissionerate Court remained open till midnight and granted bail to 60 people. A meeting of two communities was called during which both the communities agreed to maintain peace. In the meeting, BJP MLA Suryakanta Vyas demanded release of innocent people and arrest of the accused. She boycotted the meeting and warned of ‘dharna’ and fasting.
Mobile internet services were suspended for 24 hours in Rajasthan’s Bhilwara district on Thursday after unidentified masked men thrashed two people and set a bike on fire, an official said. The incident happened in the Karbala road area of Sanganer on Wednesday night, police said. Two people were having their food when the unidentified masked men attacked them and also set a bike on fire, they said. Based on a report submitted by Bhilwara District Collector Ashish Modi, the Ajmer divisional commissioner ordered the suspension of mobile Internet services from 4 am on Thursday till 4 am on Friday to maintain law and order. “The situation is completely under control. The injured are stable. CCTV footage of nearby areas are being scanned to nab the accused. I appeal to people not to pay heed to rumours and maintain peace and harmony,” the Bhilwara district collector said. He said that police and administration are on alert to tackle the situation. The incident occurred days after Jodhpur witnessed communal clashes ahead of Eid celebrations and is under curfew till Friday midnight. Bhilwara Superintendent of Police Adarsh Sidhu said the accused had come on three to four bikes. An additional force has been deployed to maintain peace, he said and appealed to the people to cooperate with the police and the administration.
Obesity increases in most states/UTs: NFHS-5 to 36 per cent for India since the last four years. NFHS-5 survey work has been conducted in around 6.37 lakh sample households from 707 districts (as on March 2017) in 28 states and eight UTs, covering 7,24,115 women and 1,01,839 men to provide dis-aggregated estimates up to the district level, the report said. Institutional births have increased substantially from 79 per cent to 89 per cent. Even in rural areas around 87 per cent births are delivered in institutions and same is 94 per cent in urban areas. Institutional births increased by a maximum of 27 percentage points in Arunachal Pradesh, followed by over 10 percentage points in Assam, Bihar, Meghalaya, Chhattisgarh, Nagaland, Manipur, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal, the report said. In NFHS-5, more than three-fourths (77 per cent) children age 12-23 months were fully immunized, compared with 62 per cent in NFHS-4. “Full vaccination coverage among children ranges from 57 per cent in Nagaland to 95 per cent in DNH & DD. Odisha (91 per cent), Tamil Nadu (89 per cent), and West Bengal (88 per cent) also have shown relatively higher immunization
coverage,” the report said. The propor tion of pregnant women who had an ANC visit in the first trimester increased from 59 to 70 per cent between NFHS4 and 5. The maximum increase of 25 percentage points was in Nagaland followed by Madhya Pradesh and Haryana, the survey said. T h e To t a l Fe r t i l ity Rates (TFR), an average number of children per women, has further declined from 2.2 to 2 at the national level between NFHS-4 and 5. There are only five states, which are above replace-
ment level of fertility of 2.1, it said. Unmet needs of family planning have witnessed a significant decline from 13 per cent to 9 per cent. The unmet need for spacing, which remained a major issue in the past has come down to less than 10 per cent, it said. NFHS-5 shows an overall improvement in SDG indicators in all states and UTs. The main objective of successive NHFS rounds has been to provide reliable and comparable data relating to health and family
welfare and other emerging areas in India. The NFHS-5 survey work has been conducted in around 6.37 lakh sample households from 707 districts (as on March 2017) in 28 states and eight UTs, covering 7,24,115 women and 1,01,839 men to provide dis-aggregated estimates up to the district level, the report said.
NEW DELHI, MAY 5 (PTI): Three persons were arrested and 36 detained after a scuffle broke out between two groups of people from different communities following a quarrel among youths playing in a park in northeast Delhi, officials said on Thursday. Police said they have registered a case of rioting in connection with the incident. On Wednesday around 9.50 pm, police received information about a quarrel near Photo Chowk under the Welcome police station area, they said. A police team rushed to the spot and after reviewing the situation, extra force was also mobilised, they added. Preliminary enquiry revealed that a quarrel broke out among youths playing cricket as well as games on mobile phones in X and Y
blocks of a park in the Welcome area. It escalated into a scuffle between two groups of people from different communities, a senior police officer said. According to the police, the quarrel took place between youths Shivam and Fazil. Later, Sonu and Aman joined Shivam and Faizan joined Fazil. They threw stones at each other. As more people gathered in the park, a call was made to the police fearing a communal tension, the officer said, adding it was a teacher who alerted the police about the incident.

BENGALURU, MAY 5 (PTI): With speculation about the much awaited expansion or reshuffle of his cabinet persisting, Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Thursday reiterated that he is ready to go to New Delhi to discuss it, as soon as the BJP central leadership calls him. A day after Union Minister Amit Shah’s visit to the city, the Chief Minister on Wednesday said that the senior leader will communicate to him the BJP central leadership’s decision about the cabinet exercise. With the state cabinet meeting scheduled to be held on May 5 being postponed to May 11, speculations are rife that it may be to accommodate expansion or reshuffle of the Ministry, amid reports that the BJP high command is expected to arrive at a decision in this regard before May 10. “You (media) create things and you ask for clarification on all self made stories....I haven’t said anything else...what he (Shah) has said is he will speak to all other leaders in Delhi and communicate to me, once he tells me, I’m ready to go (to Delhi), that’s all,” Bommai said on Thursday in response to a question on clarity about cabinet expansion or reshuffle.

The researchers noted that because the study was conducted during lockdowns in a college campus, no samples were collected in spaces with large gatherings of people and some samples were only collected when few people were present. “Our results are a valuable addition to our understanding of infectious diseases and mitigation efforts during this pandemic, and can help prepare us for future outbreaks of respiratory diseases with similar transmission mechanisms,” said Rick Neitzel, a professor at U-M’s School of Public Health. “This is another layer of sophistication to evaluate major routes of transmission and to identify physical spaces where risks are higher and control measures in such space are essential and more effective to reduce the spread of the virus,” Neitzel added.

Ukraine repels Russian attacks
LVIV (UKRAINE), MAY 5 (AP): Ukraine’s military said Thursday that it recaptured some areas in the south and repelled Russian attacks in the east, as a bloody battle raged at a steel mill in Mariupol where Ukrainian troops are holed up in tunnels and bunkers fending off a Russian onslaught. Ten weeks into a devastating war, Ukrainian and Russian forces are fighting village by village, as Moscow struggles to gain momentum in the eastern industrial heartland of the Donbas. Russia switched its focus to that region — where Moscowbacked separatists have fought Ukrainian forces for years — after a stiffer than expected resistance bogged its troops down and thwarted its initial goal of overrunning the capital. In addition to heavy shelling of the Donbas, Russian forces also kept up their bombardment

of railroad stations and other supply-line targets across the country — part of an effort to disrupt the supply of Western arms, which have been critical to Ukraine’s defense. Ukrainian forces said Thursday they made some gains on the border of the southern regions of Kherson and Mykolaiv and repelled 11 Russian attacks in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions that make up the

Donbas. Five people were killed and at least 25 more wounded in shelling of cities in the Donbas over the past 24 hours, Ukrainian officials said. The attacks damaged houses and a school as well. Air raid sirens sounded in cities across the country on Wednesday night, while Russian attacks were reported near Kyiv, the capital; in Cherkasy and Dnipro in central Ukraine;
and in Zaporizhzhia in the southeast. In Dnipro, authorities said a rail facility was hit — following several earlier attacks on railway stations across the country. The sirens sounded anew early Thursday in the western city of Lviv, which has been a gateway for western arms and served as a relative safe haven for people fleeing fighting farther east. An assessment by the Washington-based Institute for the Study of War said Russian forces were struggling to gain traction. “Ukrainian defenses have largely stalled Russian advances in eastern Ukraine,” it said late Wednesday. “Russian forces intensified airstrikes against transportation infrastructure in western Ukraine (on Wednesday) but remain unable to interdict Western aid shipments to Ukraine,” it added. In the most searing example of how Ukrainian
forces have slowed Russia’s progress, Ukrainian fighters held out at the sprawling Azovstal steel mill in Mariupol — the last pocket of resistance in a city that is otherwise controlled by Moscow’s forces. “With the support of aircraft, the enemy resumed the offensive in order to take control of the plant,” the Ukrainian military’s General Staff said Thursday. A stream of black smoke rose above the plant on Wednesday. The Ukrainians said Russian forces have pushed into the plant’s perimeter and were also bombing it from above. The Kremlin denied that there was any ground assault. Denys Prokopenko, commander of the Ukrainian Azov regiment that’s defending the plant, said in a video posted Wednesday that the incursions continued for a second day, “and there are heavy, bloody battles.”
Taiwan says it cannot afford new US anti-submarine helicopters
TAIPEI, MAY 5 (AGENCIES): Taiwan signalled on Thursday that it had abandoned a plan to buy advanced new anti-submarine warfare helicopters from the United States, saying they were too expensive. Taiwan had earlier said it was planning to buy 12 MH-60R anti-submarine helicopters, made by Lockheed Martin Corp (LMT.N) unit Sikorsky, but domestic media said the United States had rejected the sale as not being in line with the island’s needs. Asked in parliament about recent changes to Taiwan’s purchases of new U.S. weapons, Defence Minister Chiu Kuo-cheng mentioned the helicopter case first. “The price is too high, beyond the scope of our country’s ability,” he said. Two other arms purchases have also been delayed - M109A6 Medium Self-Propelled Howitzer artillery systems, and mobile
Stinger anti-aircraft missiles. The Raytheon Technologies’ (RTX.N) Stingers are in hot demand in Ukraine, where they have been used against Russian aircraft, but U.S. supplies have shrunk and there are significant hurdles to producing more of the antiaircraft weapons. Chiu said they had already signed the contract for the Stingers and paid for them, and they would press the United States to deliver them. “We don’t view arms sales as a trifling matter, and we have back-up plans,” he
added, without elaborating. Taiwan says the United States has offered it alternatives to the M109A6, including truck-based rocket launchers made by Lockheed Martin called the High Mobility Artillery Rocket System, or HIMARS. Chiu said they were still considering their options on that. Taiwan, claimed by China as its own territory, is undertaking a military modernisation programme to improve its capabilities to fend off a Chinese attack, including with precision weapons like missiles.

government. He was elected with 148 for and 65 against with three invalid votes, Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeyawardene announced. Despite the SLFP going independent, the ruling Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) decided to back Siyambalapitiya in their bid to show that the government majority was intact. Speaking after
his election as the Deputy Speaker, Siyambalapitiya said he had expected to be unanimously appointed by both the government and the Opposition. The main Opposition leader Sajith Premadasa said they decided to field their nominee Imtiaz Bakeer Markar as they had learnt the ruling SLPP was to back Siyambalapitiya at a possible secret vote. Premadasa accused Siyambalapitiya as a “government stooge.” The government majority was seen as fragile since the decision by some 40 lawmakers from the ruling coalition declaring independence in view of the raging public protests calling for the resignation of the entire Rajapaksa family.
implications of crisis
PARIS, MAY 5 (PTI): India and France have unequivocally condemned the civilian deaths in Ukraine, called for an immediate cessation of hostilities and agreed to remain engaged in dealing with the global implications of the conflict, especially in addressing the risk of aggravated food crisis as a result of the strife. The situation in Ukraine figured in the talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron at the Elysee Palace here on Wednesday in their first meeting after the French leader was reelected in the presidential election.
Biden declares New Mexico wildfires ‘a major disaster’
WASHINGTON, MAY 5 (IANS): US President Joe Biden declared the raging wildfires lasting for weeks in the state of New Mexico “a major disaster”, unlocking millions of dollars in relief for affected individuals and local recovery efforts. “A major disaster exists in the State of New Mexico,” Xinhua news agency quoted the White House as saying in a statement late Wednesday. Federal aid can include grants for temporary housing and home repairs, lowcost loans to cover uninsured property losses, and other programs to help local residents and business owners recover from the damage of the wildfires, said the
statement. New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham requested the presidential disaster declaration on Tuesday. “I have 6,000 people evacuated, I have families who don’t know what the next day looks like,” said Lujan Grisham. Seven wildfires are currently raging in New Mexico, the most in any state, according to the National Interagency Fire Center. One of the fires, the Calf Canyon and Hermits Peak fire, started in midApril as two large fires and merged more than a week ago in northern New Mexico, where strong winds lasted for 24 out of the last
30 days. T h e f i r e n ow h a s burned more than 160,000 acres and hundreds of structures, authorities said. Fur ther more, over 15,000 homes could be threatened this week if the Calf Canyon and Hermits Peak fire, the second-largest fire in New Mexico in at least 30 years, continues to grow, said a CNN report, citing the Southwest Incident Management Team. About 300,000 acres of land have burned across New Mexico so far this year, more than the past two full years combined, CNN meteorologist Brandon Miller said. The situation is “a long-ter m event”, San
Miguel and Mora counties in northern Mexico said in a joint release on Tuesday. “We don’t anticipate having ‘control’ of this fire any time soon.” The wildfire season in the region normally starts in May or June but this year is dangerously early due to dire fire weather and ongoing megadrought leaving no moisture in the soil.

They unequivocally condemned civilian deaths in Ukraine and called for an immediate cessation of hostilities to bring parties together to promote dialogue and diplomacy to find an immediate end to the suffering of the people,” it said.

3 things everyone with high Blood Pressure needs to know
It’s important to monitor your BP at home
Like most doctors, I always thought the most accurate blood pressure is the one taken in my office, preferably by me. But research in recent years has shown that office blood pressures are often not accurate. Studies show up to 65% of office blood pressures are not correct. Other research has shown that home blood pressure measurements may be a better predictor of risk than office measurements and that monitoring at home lowers blood pressure and improves control. Several expert blood pressure guidelines now endorse home blood pressure monitoring based on this information. I recommend home blood pressure monitoring for all my patients and emphasize that the best way to take your blood pressure is to sit quietly for 5 minutes first.
A
It may be better to take your BP medications at night In the past, I reasoned that blood pressure is higher during the day, so it would be better to take blood pressure medications in the morning. However, more recent research suggests that taking blood pressure medications at night does a better job of lowering blood pressure and, more importantly, may reduce the risk of death, heart attack, heart failure, and stroke. The one caution I have is if you take a blood pressure medication that is a diuretic or water pill, it may still be better to take it in the morning to avoid having to go to the bathroom at night.
If your BP has been difficult to control, ask your doctor whether there may be a hormone problem
Texas minister is suing Kanye West, saying the rapper, producer and entrepreneur used a recording of one of his sermons without permission in the song “Come to Life.” Dallas County, Texas, pastor David Paul Moten sued West, his label Universal Music Group (UMG.AS), and its subsidiaries Def Jam Recordings and the West-founded G.O.O.D. Music on Tuesday in Dallas federal court. The copyright infringement lawsuit says at least two sections of “Come to Life” feature excerpts from Moten’s sermon. UMG and an attorney for Moten did not immediately respond to requests for comment on the lawsuit. West, who legally changed his name to Ye last year, could not immediately be reached for comment. Moten claims samples
We have known for a long time that one of the causes of high blood pressure is an elevation in the hormone aldosterone. This was thought to be rare. Recent research, though, suggests that high aldosterone levels may be a more frequent cause of high blood pressure than we thought. One paper demonstrated up to 20% of people with hard-to-treat high blood pressure may have high aldosterone levels, although only about 1 in 1,000 people are actually tested. You have the power to take charge of your blood pressure. Lifestyle changes such as exercising regularly, eating nutritious food, avoiding excess alcohol and salt, and getting down to a healthy weight may be as effective (or more!) than any medication. In addition to lifestyle change, talk to your doctor to see if you should moniOFFICE OF THE tor your blood pressure at home, take your medicines at night, and possibly WAKCHING UNION KOHIMA be tested for high aldosterone levels. Named for West’s late mother, “Donda” went to the top of the Billboard charts and was nominated for a Grammy award for album of the year. f you have high blood pressure, you’re probably concerned about getting it under control. And you should be. High blood pressure is a major risk factor for heart disease (the leading cause of death) and stroke (the fourth leading cause of death) and contributes to over 1,100 deaths per day. The more striking aspect is most of these deaths are preventable. We have effective and inexpensive treatments for high blood pressure, yet less than 44% of high blood pressure cases are controlled. The devastating effect on our health and length of life of uncontrolled high blood pressure is unacceptable and led the U.S. Surgeon General to release a Call to Action to Control Hypertension to help improve the health of people with high blood pressure. If you’re interested in taking control of your blood pressure, there are three new medical literature findings that you should know about.

May 6, 1999 Present Family The journey of our lives together has been a wonderful story. As we celebrate God's faithfulness for the 23 blessed years, our hearts are overwhelmed with gratitude, retrospect the goodness of God in our lives. We remain nostalgic about the yesteryears and are reminded of Genesis 32: 10b "...for I crossed over Jordan with my staff and now I have become companies." Together with our family, we shall continue to serve the Lord. We owe our allegiance to God as the year also marks the Silver Jubilee celebration of Koinonia Baptist Church. As we proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord, it is our prayer and desire that everyone will come to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ and carry on the legacy of the Great Commission. Anand, Gelfand to work with Veritas Sports lift late I. Pihoto Awomi trophy Sounders clinch CONCACAF Indian players ahead of Olympiad Champions League 2022
Seattle Sounders FC celebrate with the CONCACAF Champions League trophy following a 3-0 second leg victory against Pumas at Lumen Field.
S E AT T L E , M AY 5 (AGENCIES): Seattle Sounders became the first Major League Soccer (MLS) side to win the CONCACAF Champions League on Wednesday after Raul Ruidiaz’s double helped them to a 3-0 win over Mexico’s Pumas UNAM on Wednesday and a 5-2 victory on aggregate. The American side’s victory, in front of a record crowd of 68,741 at Lumen Field, ended a streak of 13 consecutive Champions League title wins by Mexican clubs.
The teams drew 2-2 in the first leg in Mexico. MLS sides DC United (1998) and Los Angeles Galaxy (2000) won the region’s premier club competition when it was called the CONCACAF Champions Cup and featured a different format. “There are no words to describe what I’m feeling right now, the club made history and deserved it, now enjoy it,” Ruidiaz told Fox Sports. The Peru striker broke the deadlock with a deflected effort in the 45th minute and another late
on before Nicolas Lodeiro scored from a rebound in the 88th minute. “The MLS deserved the continental title, and this will go down in history,” said Lodeiro. The title means that the Sounders will also become the first MLS team to progress to the FIFA Club World Cup, the annual competition that brings together the champions from the six global confederations. CONCACAF is the governing body for football in North America, Central America and the Caribbean.
CHENNAI, MAY 5 (PTI): Five-time world champion Viswanathan Anand and Boris Gelfand will work in tandem to guide the Indian chess players during the team’s coaching camp, beginning May 7, for the 44th Chess Olympiad. The All India Chess Federation (AICF) has brought the two legends together for the home team’s first coaching camp ahead of the Chess Olympiad in July-August. The six-time world championship candidate from Israel, Gelfand has been roped in as the coach by the AICF alongside mentor Anand. The members of the first teams in both open as well as women’s section will take part in the camp, scheduled to take place at Hotel Leela in Chennai from May 7 to 17. Apart from winning the World Cup in 2009, Gelfand has competed in 11 Chess Olympiads. He was ranked in the top-30 in FIDE rankings from 1990 to 2017 during his 27-year long astonishing career. The 52-year-old has also trained some of the top international players in the past, helping them succeed in big events. T h e f o r m e r wo r l d champion in rapid chess, Koneru Humpy believes the decision to appoint Gelfand, in addition to mentor Anand, will motivate the players ahead of the Olympiad, which will be conducted in India for the
first time ever, beginning in Chennai on July 28. “Well, I don’t often participate in the coaching camps in general. This time having Gelfand and Anand as coach and mentor will definitely motivate the team and for sure there will be a lot to learn from their experience,” she said. The author of numerous popular books like ‘Dynamic decision making in chess’, ‘Technical decision making in chess’ and ‘Positional decision making in chess’, Gelfand will use his in-depth technical as well as strategic knowledge of the game while interacting and training the Indian players in the camp. The members of first team in the open section -- Vidit Gujrathi, Pentala Harikrishna, Arjun Erigaisi, SL Narayanan and Krishnan Sasikiran -- and the players of first team in the women’s section -- Koneru Humpy, Dronavalli Harika, R Vaishali, Tania Sachdev and Bhakti Kulkarni, will take part in the camp along with their respective coaches Srinath Narayanan and Abhijit Kunte. Arjun and Sasikiran, who are currently playing tournaments in Europe, will join the camp a couple of days later. Sasikiran, a member of the Bronze winning team at Tromso in 2014 who had also won an individual silver medal at the same Olympiad, is excited to work with Gelfand.

Real Madrid enter CL final with miracle win against Manchester City MADRID, MAY 5 (IANS): Real Madrid completed yet another miracle win to book their place in the final of the UEFA Champions League final with a 3-1 win at home against Manchester City. Manchester City looked to have booked their ticket to Paris in the 90th minute of the game after Riyad Mahrez had put them ahead in the 73rd minute and 5-3 ahead on aggregate. Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti replaced Toni Kroos, Luka Modric and Casemiro with Eduardo Camavinga, Marco Asensio and Rodrygo, but it looked as if it was going to be in vain. Real Madrid had not had a shot to trouble Manchester City keeper Edinson before Karim Benzema hooked the ball across the face of the goal for Rodrygo to head home at the near post in the 90th minute, just before the referee signaled six minutes of injury time. The Spanish third seed raced away with the first set on his return to action after six weeks out with a rib injury, as his serve worked effectively, but he had to work much harder in the second set as Kecmanovic reacted well.
