NE States agree to make Hindi compulsory: Shah
NEW DELHI, APR 8 (AGENCIES/PTI): Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday said that all the eight states of the North East have agreed to make Hindi compulsory in schools up to Class X, a statement issued by the Home ministry stated. Presiding over the 37th meeting of the Parliamentary Official Language Committee here, Shah on Thursday said Hindi should be accepted as an alternative to English and not to local languages. He said that 20,000 Hindi teachers have been recruited in the eight states of the North East, adding that nine tribal communities of the North East have converted their dialects’ scripts to Devanagari.” He also said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has decided that the medium of running the government is the official language and this will definitely increase the importance of Hindi. Shah informed the members that now 70 per

cent of the agenda of the Cabinet is prepared in Hindi. The home minister described Hindi as “the language of India”, and said that it should be used by citizens from different states to communicate with each other.
Oppn cries ‘imposition’
Home Minister Amit Shah's pitch for the Hindi language provoked trenchant criticism on Friday, with opposition parties calling it an assault on India's pluralism and asserting they will thwart the move to impose "Hindi imperialism". The opposition party also said Shah was trying to divert public attention from
the issues of inflation and price rise. Congress leader Jairam Ramesh said Hindi is 'Raj Bhasha' (official language) and not 'Rashtra Bhasha' (national language), as Rajnath Singh had noted in Parliament when he was the home minister. Congress spokesperson Abhishek Singhvi said the home minister has tried to sermonise about Hindi which he should not. He also alleged that by raking up the issue of Hindi, the home minister is also trying to divert people's attention from inflation and price rise. saying his is an act that “will hurt the unity of India” and warned the BJP not to “commit the same mistake. In a series of tweets in Tamil, Stalin accused the BJP of “eroding the diversity of India” through statements like the one Shah made on Thursday at the 37th meeting of the Parliamentary Official Language Committee. “Union Home Minister Amit Shah asking people to use Hindi instead of English is an act that will hurt the unity of India. The BJP continues to engage with its job of eroding the diversity of India… You (BJP) are committing the same mistake. You will never succeed,” the CM added.
Tamil Nadu Finance Minister P Thiagarajan related Amit Shah’s comments to “chauvinism” and called his logic “economically inverse” For mer Kar nataka chief minister Siddaramaiah accused the BJP of trying to unleash its agenda of “cultural terrorism” against non-Hindi speaking states. Siddaramaiah accused Shah of betraying the former's home state Gujarat and mother-tongue Gujarati for Hindi, for his political agenda. Another ex-CM of Karnataka HD Kumaraswamy alleged that the Central government is trying to “forcibly run personal agenda” adding that they will not succeed. TMC said any effort to impose Hindi by BJP-led Centre on non-Hindi speaking states will be resisted. Pointing out that Hindi was not India’s national language, the TMC said his agenda of “'one nation, one language and one religion” will remain unfulfilled.

50 Years of APO: Rio urges Angamis to rededicate towards people’s welfare

Correspondent
KOHIMA, APR 8 (NPN): State chief minister Neiphiu Rio urged members of Angami tribe to rededicate themselves to the welfare of the people and continue to uphold the good conduct of their forefathers for overall development of the State. Addressing the golden jubilee celebrations of Angami Public Organisation (APO) at Khuochiezie local ground here on Friday, he congratulated the organisation for reaching the important milestone of 50 years of existence and hoped that the occasion would foster unity among communities.
He said APO had faced many hurdles at the initial stage, but its founders steered it out properly. He also paid tribute to all the leaders who had led the organisation thus far. Stressing that everyone had to learn from mistakes, Rio hoped APO’s motto “Right is Might” would lead the community towards progress. He said the Angamis were blessed and had led the Nagas at a time when the people were not very educated, noting that British functioned from Kohima and set it up as the capital, which he said was a boon for the Angamis.
Recalling the British entry into Naga Hills in 1832, Rio said the Angamis had fought with them when they entered their land, which ended in 1879. Later, the Angamis worked together with the British when Kohima was made the headquarters. He also pointed out that among the 21 signatories in the memorandum to Simon Commission, 15 were from the Angami tribe who represented the Nagas, noting that the forefathers had sacrificed and contributed greatly to the Naga movement, which he added as a reason why the Angamis were blessed. NPPC assures Sonia Gandhi of defending faith and values Cabinet approves distribution DIMAPUR, APR 8 (NPN): Close on the heels of Nagaland electing its first ever BJP member and woman candidate to the Rajya Sabha, a delegation of Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) held a meeting with AICC president Sonia Gandhi to apprise her of the demographic changes taking place in Nagaland. According to NPCC president K. Therie, the changes was evident in the unopposed election of BJP nominee from “a Christian state” of which Congress members were part of. Therie said the “voice of Christians and minorities are being ignored” as the action of the UDA government
are accepted and which is termed as “commission, contribution and donation.” He said corrupt ministers were buying hundreds and thousand acres of land and building multiple storied buildings all over the state. According to Therie, funds meant for tourism and medical departments were used for personal development. Entire budget of the state for the past 20 years has “vanished into thin air” he said as it does not percolate down to the districts anymore. He said Nagas have lost work culture even though people talk much about customs, honesty and hospitality, values that are in danger of being submerged.
Therie blamed the UDA government of being responsible for delaying the implementation of the two official agreements between the government of India and NSCN(I-M) and NNPGs. He said this was no longer a problem with the NPGs but with the state government which desires to fish in troubled waters. He also accused UDA of destroying the social structure as it has compromised with the state’s Christian faith. In order to protect themselves from NIC, CBI, ED and justice, Therie said the 48 regional party MLAs have “lost their value and voice,” as they are afraid of BJP. (Cont’d on p-8)
of fortified rice across schemes
NEW DELHI, APR 8 (PTI): In order to address the issue of malnutrition among the poor, Centre on Friday said it will supply fortified rice through government schemes such as PDS and PM-POSHAN in three phases by 2024, a move that will cost the central exchequer Rs 2,700 crore per year. A decision in this regard was taken at the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Fortified rice is made as per the standards fixed by the food regulator FSSAI which has prescribed blending rice with
three micronutrients -- Iron, Folic Acid and Vitamin B12. Briefing media about the decisions, I&B Minister Anurag Thakur said the CCEA has approved distribution of fortified rice in a phased manner through PDS, Integrated Child Development Services, PMPoshan Shakti Nirman-PM POSHAN (erstwhile MidDay Meal Scheme) and other welfare schemes. With the approval, the regular implementation of the programme starts now as the cost of fortification would be borne as part of the food subsidy bill, Food Secretary Sudhanshu Pandey said.

has “left us speechless”. Therie again lamented on the corrupt electoral practices of accepting money and material from corrupt leaders for votes. He said this was “another system” which has taken deep roots in the democratic process.
DIMAPUR, APR 8 (NPN): Asserting that the shortage of teachers in many schools under Phek district was yet to be addressed, Chakhesang Students' Union has urged the department of school education to review the rationalization of teachers. In a representation to commissioner & secretary, school education, CSU president Avezo Kevin Kapu and general secretary Pei Kezo stated the union, while reviewing the recent rationalization, found that in many cases teachers were being redeployed to other schools though there was “a clear indication” of teacher shortage in their former posting. CSU has, therefore, appealed to the department to review and streamline the procedure of rational-

CSU also urged the department to prioritize on the strength of the students and teachers in the concerned school; approaching retirement of teachers; inadequacy of teachers with respect to standard staffing pattern. CSU informs teachers: Chakhesang Students' Union (CSU) has informed all the teachers under its jurisdiction whose name had been enlisted by the government for transfer and redeployment to other schools to restrain from abiding by the stated order until the issue was reviewed by the department. CSU has requested all the concern teachers to remain in their previous place of posting before the issue was logically settled.
KYIV, APR 8 (AP): At least 50 persons were killed in Friday's air strike at a crowded rail station in eastern Ukraine's contested Donbas region. A Russian missile hit the Kramatorsk city train station where thousands of people had flocked to flee the war, Ukrainian authorities said. Photos from the scene showed bodies covered with tarps on the ground and the remnants of a rocket with the words “For the children” painted on it in Russian. About 4,000 civilians were in and around the station, the office of Ukraine's prosecutorgeneral said, adding that most were women and children heeding calls to leave the area before Russia launches a full-scale offensive in the country's east.

Russian Defence Ministry, however, denied attacking the station, but President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and other Ukrainian leaders accused Russia of deliberately targeting a location where only civilians were assembled. “The inhuman Russians are not changing their methods. Without the strength or courage to stand up to us on the battle-
field, they are cynically destroying the civilian population,” the president said on social media. “This is an evil without limits. And if it is not punished, then it will never stop.” Pavlo Kyrylenko, regional governor of Donetsk, which lies in the Donbas, said that 50 people were killed, including five children, and dozens more were wounded.
NEW DELHI, APR 8 (IANS): Defence Ministry is expected to give the green signal to a proposal to recruit soldiers for three-year short service or 'Tour of Duty', initially floated by the Army in 2020, sources said on Wednesday. The selected candidates will get a chance to serve the nation as officers and/or other ranks. Initially, the number of vacancies would be around 100 which could be expanded later. It will not be military conscription like in some countries like Israel.

Cong demands restoration of air transit services for armed forces personnel
NAGALAND POST, DIMAPUR SATURDAY, APRIL 9, 2022
Opposition should come together: Rahul years, there will be massive consequences,” Gandhi said. Asked if the Opposition will field a united candidate in the presidential polls later this year, he refused to comment on it. On rising prices and debate not being held on it in the Budget Session that concluded on Thursday, Gandhi said, “Nobody can escape reality, in modern politics media is a way to escape reality. For one, two, three years you can suppress reality through media but when that reality reaches the stomach of the youth, their parents then media cannot do anything.” “Our institutions, BJP leaders, RSS have hidden the truth, now the truth will come out slowly. That has what has happened in Sri Lanka, the truth has come out. In India also truth will come out,” he asserted. Gandhi said the difference between India and Sri Lanka is that the Indians have also been divided. “It used to be one country. Now, it has been divided into groups, it has been divided into many small countries....and all of them are made to fight with each other. When this pain will come out, violence will happen. Don’t agree with me now, wait for two-three years,” he said.
NEW DELHI, APR 8 (PTI): The Congress on Friday demanded immediate restoration of air transit services for armed forces personnel and sought an apology from the government for “risking” the lives of soldiers. In a statement, Congress general secretary and chief spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said that the country lost 44 of its brave soldiers of the CRPF in the Pulwama terror attack in Kashmir on February 14, 2019 due to the suspension of the same air courier service. He said this attack happened because the CRPF personnel were going by buses to join duty through this very sensitive area. Even then, the Narendra Modi government did not provide air transit facility to them to reach their duty point, he alleged. “We demand that this air transit service should be immediately restored in view of the security of the soldiers, the government should apologize to the nation for risking the lives of our soldiers and paramilitary forces,” he said. Surjewala also alleged that while the BJP does not leave any opportunity to take credit for the bravery of soldiers, it does nothing

NEW DELHI, APR 8 (PTI): Opposition parties against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the RSS should come together and discussions are ongoing on what should be its framework, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said on Friday after meeting RJD leader Sharad Yadav, whom he described as his “guru”. Addressing the media at his house with the Congress leader by his side, Yadav said Gandhi should take over as the Congress president. Asked if the Opposition must come together to take on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Gandhi said , “Opposition parties that are against the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and Narendra Modi should come together. Discussions are ongoing on how they should come together, what should be the framework of it, and that has to be developed.” On whether Gandhi should become Congress president, Yadav said, “Why not? Rahul Gandhi works for the party 24X7 and I think he should become the president of the party. The Congress should make him president only then something big can happen.” When Gandhi was asked to comment on the is-
NEW DELHI, APR 8 (IANS): The Supreme Court said that receiving foreign donations is “a reflection on the constitutional morality of the nation, as a whole, being incapable of looking after its own needs and problems” and said charitable associations may instead focus on donors within the country to obviate influence of foreign countries owing to foreign contribution. A b e n c h o f Ju s tice A.M. Khanwilkar and comprising Justices Dinesh Maheshwari and C.T. Ravikumar said the theory of possibility of national polity being influenced by foreign contribution is globally recognised. “For, foreign contribution can have material impact in the matter of socioeconomic structure and polity of the country. sue, he parried the question, saying, “We will see about that.” Describing Yadav as his “guru”, Gandhi said Yadav was unwell for a long time, and he was happy to see him “fighting fit” now. “He has taught me a lot about politics,” Gandhi added. Yadav last month merged his Loktantrik Janata Dal (LJD) with Lalu Prasad Yadav’s Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD). Gandhi said he agrees with him that the country is in a “very bad state” as “hatred” is being spread and the “country is being divided”. “All of us are facing this challenge. We have to bring the country together, we have to take the coun-
a foreign contributor and influence the policies of the country,” it said. It added: “It may tend to influence or impose political ideology. Such being the expanse of the effect of foreign contribution coupled with the tenet of constitutional morality of the nation, the presence/ inflow of foreign contribution in the country ought to be at the minimum level, if not completely eschewed.” The bench said, by its very expression, foreign donation is a reflection on the constitutional morality of the nation, as a whole, being incapable of looking after its own needs and problems. “The question to be asked is: ‘in normal times’, why developing or developed countries would need foreign contribution to cater to their own needs and aspirations? Indisput-
try on the path of brotherhood again,” Gandhi said. “People think that economy is different from the condition of the society. In a country which does not have harmony, hatred will increase, inflation will rise, economy will not flourish and employment will not be generated,” he said. If we have to strengthen the country then the most important thing is peace and harmony, he added. The former Congress president alleged that “the BJP people think that by spreading hatred, scaring people and killing them, India’s economy can be strengthened”. “They are under an illusion”. Gandhi cautioned that India’s
ably, the aspirations of any country cannot be fulfilled on the hope (basis) of foreign donation, but by firm and resolute approach of its own citizens to achieve the goal by sheer dint of their hard work and industry,” it said. It said it is open to a sovereign democratic nation to completely prohibit acceptance of foreign donations on the ground that it undermines the constitutional morality of the nation. The bench said the influence may manifest in different ways, including in destabilising the social order within the country. “The charitable associations may instead focus on donors within the country, to obviate influence of foreign country owing to foreign contribution. There is no dearth of donors within our country,” it added.

The structure of employment in this country, the spine of this country, has been broken,” he said. “Prime Minister (Narendra Modi) thinks what South Korea has done, we should also do. He looks at abroad and says ‘we want to be like that’. “Work cannot be done like that, we have to recognise what we are and what works here. NEW DELHI, APR 8 (PTI): With the RBI lowering the economic growth forecast to 7.2 per cent for the current fiscal, the Congress on Friday took a dig at the government and asked if this was an indication of “bahut achche din (very good days)”. The Reserve Bank of India lowered the economic growth forecast to 7.2 per cent for the 2022-23 fiscal from the previous outlook of 7.8 per cent. This compares to real GDP growth of 8.9 per cent in 2021-22. The RBI also kept borrowing costs unchanged at a record low for the 11th time in a row in a bid to continue supporting economic growth despite inflation edging higher in the aftermath of the Russia-Ukraine war. Attacking the government, Congress chief spokesperson Randeep
Surjewala said, “8th day of FY23 and RBI has -: Reduced GDP growth forecast from 7.8% to 7.2%. Increased inflation forecast from 4.5% to 5.7%.” “Is this an indication of “BAHUT ACHEY DIN” in FY23?” he tweeted using the hashtag ‘BJPMadeFinancialDisaster’. It is not an “accommodative policy stance” by the RBI on interest rates but this policy establishes GOI’s “Habitually Compromising Stance” on rising inflation and falling GDP growth rates, Surjewala said. “Card-less Withdrawals Via UPI is a good technological intervention, but with low growth and high inflation forecasts, how does the @RBI expect money to be available at all in bank accounts? Neither FM nor RBI has provided any answers,” the Congress general secretary said.
NEW DELHI, APR 8 (PTI): The Union Cabinet on Friday approved a scheme to distribute fortified rice under government programmes in three phases, Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur said. FCI and state agencies have already procured 88.65 LMT of fortified rice for supply and distribution. Giving details to media after the Cabinet meeting, Thakur said in the first phase, fortified rice is being distributed under ICDS and PM Poshan programmes. The second phase will cover targeted public distribution system (TPDS) and other welfare schemes in all aspirational and highburden stunting districts by March 2023. In the final phase, all remaining districts will be covered by March 2024.
Randeep Surjewala in the name of their security and for saving their lives. After the attack in Pulwama, on the demand of the Congress and various news items appearing, the Modi government had hurriedly restored the ‘air courier service’ for the jawans, which has now been suspended again from April 1, he alleged. The Congress spokesperson said that the suspension of air transit service means that the jawans posted in Jammu and Kashmir will now have to travel by rail or road. “This is the height of negligence, when the government is well aware that about three hundred kilometers area in Jammu and Kashmir is full of risk. There is always a threat of IEDs, hand grenades, drones and suicidal attacks in these areas. “With the suspension of air transit service for paramilitary forces, now the paramilitary forces person-
nel will have to move in the same type of convoys, which can be easily targeted by the terrorists. This will also increase the cost as a large number of road opening parties will have to be deployed in view of the security of the soldiers,” he said. He reminded the government that the air courier service for such jawans was suspended a few months before the Pulwama attack. The Delhi-Srinagar air service was started on January 1, 2018 for the movement of paramilitary forces deployed in Kashmir, but, due to financial reasons, but it was stopped on July 31, 2018, after being operationalised for only seven months, which led to the February 2019 Pulwama attack. “This attack was shamelessly exploited by the BJP in the 2019 general elections,” he alleged, adding that it is now being repeated once again. The ‘air courier service’ for the paramilitary forces has been suspended by the Union home ministry at a time when snow has started melting on the high peaks of the Valley, he said, adding that during this period threat perception of terrorist attacks has been at its peak and there have also been several incidents of attacks in last few days.

NEW DELHI, APR 8 (IANS): Demanding a judicial enquiry into the Karauli violence, the BJP on Friday said that it looks like there is Taliban rule in Rajasthan. Addressing a press conference at the party headquarters here, Rajasthan BJP president Satish Poonia said that due to the appeasement politics of the Ashok Gehlot government it looks like there is Taliban rule in Rajasthan. “The appeasement policy of the Chief Minister clearly shows that he himself has created a divide in the name of majority and minority. If you look at the track record of the last three years, you will find that the majority of Rajasthan are hesitant to celebrate their festivals, they are afraid,” Poonia said. He claimed that there are many examples of appeasement politics. “The

BENGALURU, APR 8 (PTI): Multiple private schools in Bengaluru on Friday received bomb threats via e-mail, following which City Police were rushed to the spots, along with a bomb disposal squad to carry out search operations, and the threats have turned out to be “hoax”. According to senior police officials, they have received information that at least five schools in the city received the bomb threat. Stating that bomb detection and disposal teams were also sent to schools that received threats separately, Additional Commissioner of Police Bengaluru (East) A Subramanyeswara Rao said, “Searches have been done at all the schools and no item that causes
worry has been found.” Investigating teams are probing the e-mail, Rao said. “We will find out at the earliest as to who is behind it and take necessary action,” he said, adding that mails have come from different email-ids and it will be investigated. Police officials said they have assured parents and teachers that there is no need for worry. Po l i c e e va c u a t e d schools that received the threat and parents were asked to come and pick up the children, they said, adding that it was also ensured that exams that were going on at few schools, were not disturbed. Class 10 exams are currently on in the state. The e-mail threats to schools read, “A very
powerful bomb has been planted in your school, attention is not a joke, this is not a joke, a very powerful bomb has been planted in your school, immediately call the police and sappers, hundreds of lives may suffer, including yours, do not delay, now everything is only in your hands!” Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said there seems to be a conspiracy to disturb peace in Karnataka, which is a progressive state. Stating that he has instructed police to take it seriously and to not take any chances, he said, “Those behind (the hoax threat) will be arrested soon. All the necessary precautionary measures will be taken and thorough investigation will be done...there is no need to worry.”

Those who were guilty were present in the peace committee meeting. The way Ashok Gehlot is doing the politics of appeasement in Rajasthan, it seems that there is Taliban rule in Rajasthan,” Poonia said. Referring to the law and order situation in Rajasthan, Poonia said that in the last three years about seven lakh FIRs have been registered in the state which includes cases of mob lynching, communal violence and cases of crime against women. “Chief minister Gehlot is responsible for disturbing the peaceful environment of Rajasthan. Without investigation he is giving a clean chit to the accused. He is making baseless allegations against BJP chief J P Nadda to save his chair,” Poonia said. Former union minister and BJP national spokesperson Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore said, “There is a fire inside Rajasthan and the state is burning. Things are getting worse there every day. Nagaland Post VOL. XXXII NO. 123 DIMAPUR, SATURDAY, APRIL 9, 2022
A
Imran bowled out
fter his googly of having the president of Pakistan dissolve parliament and calling for immediate elections within 90-days, embattled Pakistani prime minister and former cricketer Imran Khan has himself been bowled out by the Pakistan Supreme Court on Thursday. Khan executed his plan by having Pakistan National Assembly Deputy Speaker Qasim Khan Suri, a member of the ruling party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Sunday dismiss the no-trust motion against him. Khan had no way out as the opposition had mustered a convincing majority of 197 members against 142 for Khan’s ruling coalition in the 342-member house. However, the Pakistan Supreme Court on Thursday declared the ruling of deputy speaker Qasim Suri dismissing the no-confidence motion as unconstitutional. The top court has also ordered the restoration of Assembly. The voting on no-confidence is to take place on April 9. The ruling is a big setback to Imran Khan who had alleged that the no-confidence motion as a foreign conspiracy. It is certain, that the vote of confidence will end Khan’s incomplete tenure as prime minister since the combined opposition has more than enough numbers to vote out his PTI –led alliance. All prime ministers of Pakistan including Imran Khan who was the 22nd, have not completed their full tenure in office. This is the story of Pakistan’s experiment with parliamentary democracy. Pakistani democracy exists in name only and their parliamentary system is a sham because no elected government can function without the blessings of the military and the Inter Services Intelligence (ISI). Imran Khan had rode to power on the platform of embracing the fundamentalist ideology in cahoots with terrorist elements. In 2018, Imran Khan won that election with the backing of an increasingly pro-Chinese military, or that he promised to pull Pakistan “out of the War on Terror,” or that he was to preside over a financial collapse. He ran as a nationalist promising to fight corruption, revive the country’s struggling economy and maintain an independent foreign policy that distanced Pakistan from the United States. The fact is that Imran failed on all fronts and later blamed the US for plotting to unseat him. He tried to cosy up to Russia at a time when the latter was invading Ukraine in the hope that it would benefit his failing regime. However, much to Khan’s dismay the Pakistan Army reaffirmed its ties with the US spanning several decades. Pakistan’s democracy exists in name only as the country is practically a theocratic state and what Khan has done was only to add further damage to the fragile institution. It is immaterial whether there exist any or at all, an alleged foreign conspiracy against Imran Khan’s government. Pakistan national assembly deputy speaker has sabotaged the rule of his country’s constitution by arbitrarily rejecting the no confidence motion tabled days ahead as per procedure which was done only to save Imran Khan. The role of speakers, even in India had come under legal scrutiny. However, democracy in India has survived these challenges since the people and not the army, have responded through ballots and not bullets. Imran Khan is just an example of Pakistani leaders never being sure when their military will trip them out of power whether covertly or overtly.
DailyDevotion His Resurrection Destiny
Ought not the Christ to have suffered these things and to enter into His glory? —Luke 24:26
Our Lord’s Cross is the gateway into His life. His resurrection means that He has the power to convey His life to me. When I was born again, I received the very life of the risen Lord from Jesus Himself. Christ’s resurrection destiny— His foreordained purpose— was to bring “many sons to glory” (Hebrews 2:10). The fulfilling of His destiny gives Him the right to make us sons and daughters of God. We never have exactly the same relationship to God that the Son of God has, but we are brought by the Son into the relation of sonship. When our Lord rose from the dead, He rose to an absolutely new life— a life He had never lived before He was God Incarnate. He rose to a life that had never been before. And what His resurrection means for us is that we are raised to His risen life, not to our old life. One day we will have a body like His glorious body, but we can know here and now the power and effectiveness of His resurrection and can “walk in newness of life” (Romans 6:4). Paul’s determined purpose was to “know Him and the power of His resurrection” (Philippians 3:10). Jesus prayed, “…as You have given Him authority over all flesh that He should give eternal life to as many as You have given Him” (John 17:2). The term Holy Spirit is actually another name for the experience of eternal life working in human beings here and now. The Holy Spirit is the deity of God who continues to apply the power of the atonement by the Cross of Christ to our lives. Thank God for the glorious and majestic truth that His Spirit can work the very nature of Jesus into us, if we will only obey Him.

NAGALAND POST, DIMAPUR SATURDAY, APRIL 9, 2022
Post-mortem
EC must dissect manifestos, stop parties asking freebies A ssembly elections are not natural calamities or disasters that require central assistance to meet the extravagant promises made by certain political parties in their manifestos just to lure voters and win these polls. It has become a trend for certain parties to make promises of free electricity, free water, free education, free travel, free cycles, free laptops, free scooties, cash credits etc in their manifestos for winning Assembly elections and once they win, then plead for funds from the Central government. If this is not bribing voters, then what is it?

showcases our ignorance and raises questions on our own understanding and purpose of elections. Have we failed as a voter? Voting is our right, but who we vote for is meaningful too. The voters who are already under financial stres, due to rising prices of essential commodities, or those who care nothing about who comes to power but only that their interests are met, go all out to vote for such parties. And political parties knowing such weaknesses of voters, are all out to capitalise on these factors. There is still some hope
Pollution control crucial for environmental safety
n the face of a looming climate change, it will have negative ramifications in a broad range of areas if proper measures are not adopted immediately. With the Russia-Ukraine fiasco, the targeted sanctions the western countries are searching for alternate oil and gas fields thereby procrastinating their decarbonization promises exacerbating the already deteriorating conditions. To add to it is the ever accentuating pollution crisis of which India shares a major chunk. In India pollution occurs due to industrial emission, vehicular effluents, dust, smoke from stubble burning, biogas burning which makes India the 5th most polluted country adversely affecting almost 93% of population curtailing their life expectancy by 1.5 years. Another menace is soil pollution mainly perpetuated by dumping, plastic waste, radioactive waste, medical waste disposal, industrial discharge, indiscriminate spraying of pesticides and insecticides pervading the soil and percolating down contaminating the groundwater aquifer. Coordinated steps must be undertaken with interministerial cooperation to redress the situation. The Plastic Manage-

Under which act are such manifestos are covered or is it that the lawmakers are above the law? Such political parties are very well aware of the financial condition of the state concerned but still they go ahead with their alluring promises - for they know they always have the option to blame the Central government for the fiasco, if it refuses grants. Promises by such political parties in their manifestos are nothing but propaganda. With MPs and MLAs being unable to spend even their development fund in 5 years, expecting them to execute another ambitious plan only
ment Rules 2021 envisages Extended Producer Responsibility, spot charges on littering ,recycling of plastic materials, proper collection and disposal and using alternatives of plastics. At present almost 9.48 million tones of plastic are produced annually of which only 60% are collected and out of which only 56% are recycled while the rest incinerated or dumped in landfills. The same happens with radioactive wastes thereby leaching the ground contaminating groundwater apart from flagrantly polluting the soil. The solid wastes must also be segregated at source and the biodegradable wastes must be composted. The sewage treatment plants must work in full capacity so that the sewage falling into the rivers does not exacerbate water pollution. The precincts of the Solid Waste Management Act must be adhered to. The entire ecosystem of pollution abatement must be remodelled within the framework of a circular economy advocating reduce, reuse and recycle along with selfsustaining business models, alternate materials for plactic, proper enactment, implementation and monitoring of the acts. A market mechanism
if the Central and State government belong to the same party - the manifestos then, at least, make some sense. But if not, why the Central government would want to fund such commitments of opposition parties, knowing that these were responsible for their own party’s defeat in the Assembly elections? Recently, the AAP won the elections in Punjab on the very same basis, with Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who is also AAP national convener, and his star campaigners, promising a number of freebies to the voters of the state. The truth is that the already debt-ridden Punjab
that enables the waste generators to earn credits which can be purchased and sold might be an incentivizing factor to uphold the postulates of the act. Rampant disposal of waste may clog the stormwater drains, cause land encroachment, prevent downwater percolation of water thereby exacerbating urban floods. Smog tower, better reliance of renewable energy, jumpstarting the schemes of National Solar Mission, rooftop solar plants, using solar energy for electricity, hybrid electric cars by materializing the promise of 30% of vehicles electric by the end of 2030,50% of energy requirements by renewable energy, creating more carbon stocks through increased thrust of afforestation are steps towards the right direction. Steps like Green Energy Giga Complex, International Solar Alliance, Renewable energy parks must be adequately financed and their successful operation must be overseen. A coordinated approach supplemented by a robust policy with pollution abatement at its centrality must be practised with impeccable accuracy. Neelakshi Banerjee (As published in The Times of India)
has no money to fulfil AAP election promises. Punjab CM Bhagwant Singh Mann himself announced the AAP plan to fund promises made in the manifesto, before the elections. And now, post elections, he is asking Central government to help by providing financial grant to the extent of Rs 50,000 crore. Some political parties have redefined the meaning of hypocrisy. The game of freebies by political parties seems to be seeing no end. Sensing the situation, the Supreme Court had to intervene and had issued notice to the
Election Commission over political parties wooing voters with the promise of freebies ahead of the Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Goa, Manipur, and Punjab Assembly elections. It had observed that the promise of freebies was a “serious issue”. The day is not far when Election Commission would start dissecting the manifestos of all political parties and might embargo parties towards asking grants for at least 3-4 years from Central government to fund their promised freebies. Of course, natural calamities or disasters exempted. (IANS)
Millions of youths lost chances, or became overage
T
he past two years of the Covid pandemic troubled people in different ways. Some lost their jobs, some lost their business, and many others lost opportunities to shape their careers. One the one hand, eligible candidates could not appear in competitive exams, and on the other hand, lakhs of candidates became overage too. Now these youths are frustrated and confused. During this period in Haryana, the youth who wanted to join the army became overage or ineligible to apply for the jobs. The number of such youths who became overage for military recruitments is more than two lakhs. Apart from this, everything came to a standstill for two full years, due to which 10 thousand youth were deprived of recruitment in the state. Now these youth are desperate. It is obvious that there will be millions of such youth in other states too who may have been overaged for not only the army but for many other competitive exams too and are now worried. The concerned departments and ministries should do some planning for them so that such youths do not get discouraged or lose hope. According to the Center for Monitoring Indian Economy, between September and December 2021, the number of unemployed in the country was 31.8 million, most of whom were below 29 years of age. In the year 2020, 29.3 million youth were unemployed at the time of lockdown. These figures are of those youths who kept applying here and there in search of work. There are about 12.5 million unemployed youth who have become frustrated due to lack of work and do not apply anywhere. By including these too, the figure of unemployed youth
reaches above 45 million. Rajasthan has the highest number of unemployed in the country, where 6.5 million people are unemployed, including about 2.1 million graduates. Bihar is at number two, where about 3.9 million youth are unemployed. Uttar Pradesh is at number three in this list with 284.1 million unemployed. With the onset of the third wave of Covid, the unemployment rate in India started increasing once again. The unemployment rate in the country stood at 7.9 per cent in December 2021, while it was 7 percent in November 2021. In December 2021, the unemployment rate in urban areas reached 9.3 per cent. It is estimated that more than 80 percent of employers search for new employees on social media. According to Jobcast, 93 percent of employers use LinkedIn for new hires. Similarly, 66 percent of employers use Facebook for this, and 54 percent use Twitter. Talking about job seekers, only 36 percent of people are on LinkedIn, 40 percent are on Twitter, and the highest 83 percent are on Facebook. LinkedIn has also started its Hindi service and for this the company has promoted the service through newspapers and radio. Clearly, LinkedIn is now looking for Hindi-speaking users, as companies around the world are looking for Indian talent and they see a lot of potential in India. Through social media, such people easily get jobs, whose profile is good, as well as whose name has been referred to by many people. It also makes it clear that job seekers should not post content that defames their image on their social media. NarvijayYadav is a senior journalist & columnist. He tweets @NarvijayYadav

metics, medicine and host of others Fee collected went to different Hindu and Islamic organizations, but the proHindu groups claim that the money gotten from halal meat to unleash ‘terror’ and so wanted to impose total ban. For example, BJP in Kerala in the year 2021 started a campaign pressurizing the government to ban ‘halal system’ and halal brand restaurants. Nonetheless, halal meat is considered to be more tender, tasty and stays fresh for longer. Incidents that surfaced and ensued in the State of Karnataka in the last few years manifest a clear design and a pattern. The State of Karnataka is turning into a hub for communal conflicts. To be precise, the coastal areas have turned into hatemongering laboratory. Open experiments spewing hate and venom against particular communities, especially Muslims. Further, the State of Karnataka is increasingly transforming into manufacturing lab experimenting hate after hate. A series of hates are being mooted primarily aimed to create a separate distinct Hindu identity. A miniscule of Hindu populace is pushing its devious religio-political project by engaging in poisoning the mind-set of majority of Hindus that believes in unity, diversity and inclusivity. In such a horrendous setting, it is imperative and a burden for all those who believe in plurality and inclusivity to come together newspaper nor that of the
to stall the nefarious designs of the Hindutva forces. The State of Karnataka is known for religious tolerance and peaceful co-existence. Its capital Bengaluru is the hub of tech companies in India wherein people across the country come and work and global corporations invest in Bengaluru because it is considered as a melting point of global cultures. Economic jihad is going to have serious ramifications which has the tendency to boil down to other spheres. CM Bommai is electorally weak, and so, has given a free hand for the communal outfits to take the law in their own hands. His inaction shows the tacit support to the communal forces. The far-right Hindu groups should know that their actions of this sort would boomerang and is counter-productive for the millions of Indian expatriates whose livelihood is purely dependent on their overseas employment. If similar actions are taken by those overseas governments, then it would severely hurt Indian economy. More importantly, in a year’s time, Karnataka will go for assembly elections. Anti-conversion, hijab and halal projects have been pushed in order to deflect the electorates from the promises BJP made at the time of last elections. Electorates do not fall into trap of ‘halal meat prey’ that the RSS-BJP and Hindutva outfits have spread. Dr. I. John Mohan Razu Professor of Social Ethics

Covid: Centre asks five states to take action in areas of concern
NHA launches new version of Health Benefit Package NEW DELHI, APR 8 (PTI): The National Health Authority has launched a new version of the Health Benefit Package, 2022, under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana, adding 365 new procedures which took the total to 1,949, the Union Health Ministry said on Friday. With Health Benefit Package, 2022, differential pricing is being introduced under the scheme based on the type of city and level of care, it said. The package was launched on Thursday at a two-day meeting held at Tamil Nadu’s Mahabalipuram to review Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana and Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission in the southern states and Union Territories, according to a statement. The National Health Authority also announced the rollout of the new initia-
tive of patient classification systems through ICD-11 (International classification of disease) and International Classification of Health Intervention for Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY), it said. Another highlight was the pilot launch of Diagnosis Related Grouping (DRG) in Chhattisgarh, Haryana, Kerala, Maharashtra and Meghalaya. AB PM-JAY will be the first insurance scheme in India to provide a payment mechanism through DRG, the statement noted. The two-day Southern Region Review meeting -- ‘Ayushman Sangam’ -organised by the National Health Authority on April 7 and 8 was the third edition of the event covering the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Lakshadweep, Puducherr y, Tamil Nadu and Telangana.

Testing and surveillance still remain important to track the virus, its spread and evolution,” Bhushan said in the letter. Kerala has reported 2321 new cases in the last week (ending April 8), ac-

government’s scheme. He was speaking to the media on the second day of “samajik nyay pakhwada” (fortnight dedicated to social justice) started by the party to mark its 42nd foundation day observed on Wednesday. The party has made elaborate plans to highlight one welfare scheme on each day of the fortnight, with its members, including Union ministers, reaching out to people on its various aspects and publicise details. Noting that the houses are in the ownership of women only or include them, Singh said this has empowered them. Earlier, Modi had tweeted that the construction of over three crore houses for the poor marks a significant milestone in the resolve to provide ‘pucca’ homes to every poor. These houses with all basic facilities have become a symbol of women empowerment, he added.
HC orders CBI probe in TMC leader’s Delhi Court directs Aakar Patel not to murder linked to Birbhum killings leave country without its permission
KOLKATA, APR 8 (PTI): The Calcutta High Court on Friday ordered a CBI investigation into the murder of Trinamool Congress leader Bhadu Sheikh, which apparently led to the retaliatory killing of nine people in West Bengal’s Birbhum district. The high court had earlier ordered a CBI investigation into the killings of the nine people at Bogtui village. Prayers were made before a division bench presided by Chief Justice Prakash Shrivastava for ordering a CBI probe into the murder

The SFDR has been developed by Defence Research and Development Laboratory, Hyderabad, in collaboration with other DRDO laboratories such as Research Centre Imarat, Hyderabad and High Energy Materials Research Laboratory, Pune.
BALASORE (ODISHA) APR 8 (PTI): India on Friday successfully flight tested Solid Fuel Ducted Ramjet (SFDR) booster, a missile system, at the Integrated Test Range (ITR) in Chandipur off the Odisha coast here. The SFDR-based propulsion enables the missile to intercept aerial threats at very long range at supersonic speeds, the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) said. The test demonstrated reliable functioning of all critical components involved in the complex missile system and met all the mission objectives, it said. The performance of the system has been confirmed from the data captured by a number of instruments like telemetry, radar and electro Optical tracking systems deployed by ITR. every government spoke about providing “roti, kapda aur makan” to the poor, it is the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led dispensation which is fulfilling the promise, the BJP said on Friday. Addressing a press conference, Union minister Giriraj Singh drew a comparison with earlier governments, saying over 3.26 crore houses were built for the rural poor in 60 years while over 2.5 crore houses have been constructed in only eight years of the Modi government. Joined by BJP spokesperson K K Sharma, the Rural Development Minister said only 11 lakh houses were built annually during the Congress government while the average zoomed to 35 lakh in the current government. The BJP-led government has built over 58 lakh houses for the urban poor as well, he said. He noted that the central government had set a target of building 4.03 crore houses for the poor but it was revised to 2.95 crore following feedback from states. Singh also took a swipe at the West Bengal government, saying it seems to want to work outside the federal system and accused it of renaming central government schemes. He also suggested that the state’s TMC government has not supplied the Centre with information about the number of houses built for the poor under the Union
of Bhadu Sheikh as well, claiming that the two incidents were interlinked. “The CBI is directed to investigate the murder case of Bhadu Sk along with the investigation in the case of Bogtui house burning and murder case,” the bench, also comprising Justice R Bharadwaj, ordered. The bench had on March 25 ordered that the probe into the March 21 violence at Bogtui village be handed over to CBI from the West Bengal governmentappointed Special Investigation Team (SIT). The state DGP had on March 22 said
that the incident of fire in houses at Bogtui took place within about an hour of the murder of Sheikh, the deputy chief of the local panchayat. The place of the murder of Sheikh is around a kilometre away from Bogtui. The bench observed that the second incident prima facie seems to be the fallout of the murder of Sheikh. It said that the object of issuing the necessary direction is to ensure appropriate action against the person responsible for the incident. “On the basis of the material which is available before us, we are of the opinion that the said object can be more appropriately achieved if the incident of murder of Bhadu Sk is also investigated by the CBI along with the incident of burning of houses and murder of villagers of Bogtui which took place shortly thereafter.”

NEW DELHI, APR 8 (PTI): A Delhi court on Friday directed the chair of Amnesty International India Board Aakar Patel not to leave the country without its prior permission and stayed an order directing the CBI to withdraw a Look Out Circular (LOC) issued against him in a case relating to the alleged violation of the Foreign Contributions Regulation Act (FCRA). The judge said it was necessary that due opportunity was given to Patel to file a formal reply if any to CBI’s revision application. “In the meantime, it is necessary that the cause is not frustrated. During the course of arguments, it was pointed out by Nikhil Goel (advocate for the CBI) that
respondent made an attempt to leave the country yesterday,” the court said. It stayed the operation of the order passed by the trial court on Thursday regarding the direction to the CBI director for compliance with regards to the observations made in the order regarding “written apology.” In the order, the court said “this is also with regard to the condition that respondent (Patel) will not leave the country without the permission of this court. Put up for reply and arguments next week.” The court posted the matter for further proceedings on April 12.

KOLKATA, APR 8 (PTI): The CBI on Friday summoned the inspectorin-charge of the Jhalda police station for questioning in connection with the murder of Congress councillor Tapan Kandu in West Bengal’s Purulia district, officials said. Kandu’s wife Purnima, who is also a Congress councillor, has been alleging that the police officer had a role to play in the killing. “We have summoned the IC of Jhalda police station for questioning in connection with the investigation into the murder of Tapan Kandu,” a CBI official said. “We will also move court to seek the remand of four people arrested by the police in the case, before the CBI took over the investigation,” he said. Kandu was shot dead on March 13 while he was out on an evening walk near his residence. He had won ward number two of Jhalda Municipality for the fourth time in the civic polls held in February and was a popular leader in the area. The murder happened weeks after the elections to the Jhalda Municipality resulted in a hung house, with the Congress and Trinamool Congress having won five seats each and Independents securing two seats. However, the TMC formed the board earlier this week. A key eyewitness in the murder, Kandu’s friend Niranjan Baishnab, was found dead on Wednesday at his residence.

The octogenarian noted that in spite of facing several challenges, APO had reached an important milestone and thanked the almighty for such a blessing. He clarified that the organisation was not formed to confront anyone, nor was it a political body, adding that it was formed only to work for the people’s welfare. Narrating how the people lived at that time, Lhousa said the people lived peacefully then amidst nature in houses made of thatch and bamboo before the British invaded. He claimed that the Angamis fought against the foreigners with the firm belief that they would not live under any outside force, before the American Baptist missionaries came with the gospel,

He claimed that when the British came to Naga Hills, Angamis were still following head hunting and waged war against each other. However, the foreigners soon found that the Angamis were clothed while other tribes were still bare-bodied and their agricultural practices were found to be very scientific. BRUSSELS, APR 8 (AP): The European Union has imposed sanctions on two adult daughters of Russian President Vladimir Putin as part of a new package of measures targeting Russia for its invasion of Ukraine, according to two EU officials. The EU included Maria Vorontsova and Katerina Tikhonova in its updated list of individuals facing an assets freeze and travel ban. The two EU officials from different EU member countries spoke on condition of anonymity to The Associated Press because the updated list of sanctions has not been published yet. The move from the European bloc follows a similar move two days earlier by the United States. In the wake of evidence of torture and killings emerging from war zones outside Kyiv, the EU decided to impose a fifth package of measures in retaliation for Russia’s war. In addition to sanctions on individuals, the 27-nation bloc also approved an embargo on coal imports.

letes have said, if there was a gold medal for responding to the pandemic, then China deserves it,” Xi said. Under the dynamic zero-Covid policy, China has drastically cut international travel by cancelling visas and restricting flights since 2020. Xi’s comments came as Shanghai, the city of 26 million, has become a new epicentre of the latest COVID-19 surge in China, setting a six-straight day record by logging over 20,000 cases, prompting authorities to keep the city under lockdown for several days to conduct repeated mass tests. On Friday, China’s National Health Commission (NHC) reported over 24,100 coronavirus cases, including 22,648 asymptomatic, in the country.
Shanghai has reported 824 positive cases and 20,398 asymptomatic cases, according to the Commission’s report. As many as 1,540 new locally transmitted confirmed cases were reported across China as of Thursday, the NHC said. This is the biggest spike of COVID cases in the country after Wuhan, where coronavirus first surfaced in December 2019. The outbreak in Shanghai, caused by the highly transmissible Omicron variant of Covid-19, is becoming so serious that the city’s Communist Party sent an open letter to rally members to help front-line health workers in their quest to find and snuff out the disease, Hong Kong-based South China Morning Post newspaper reported on Thursday. It was the second letter since March 24 by cadres in the city where the party was established a century ago. China has already rushed thousands of personnel from various medical services of the military to Shanghai, in a similar move to contain the coronavirus in Wuhan.

BEIJING, APR 8 (PTI): Defending his country’s stringently implemented zero-COVID policy amid a huge surge of coronavirus cases in Shanghai and other cities, Chinese President Xi Jinping on Friday said China’s targeted and effective COVID-19 prevention and control measures ensured the safe and smooth hosting of Winter Olympics. “Against the background of the COVID-19 pandemic that rages across the world, we have put first the health of all participants, adhered to the policy of preventing the coronavirus from re-entering the country to cause a new epidemic, and strictly implemented the prevention and control measures,” Xi said, addressing a gathering to honour those who have made outstanding contributions to the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games and Paralympic Winter Games. Rajapaksa has resisted the demands to step down, even after members of his own coalition joined the antigovernment demonstrations this week, with governing party lawmakers calling for the appointment of an interim government to avoid possible violence. Parliament has failed to reach a consensus in three days of debate on how to deal with the economic crisis.
The President and his older brother, Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa, continue to hold power, despite their family being the focus of public ire. Five other family members are lawmakers, including Basil Rajapaksa, Irrigation Minister Chamal Rajapaksa and a nephew, Sports Minister Namal Rajapaksa. The government speakers defend the ruling family, saying the President need not resign as protests were meant to achieve “extra constitutional aims”. Meanwhile, newlyappointed Finance Minister Ali Sabry, who resigned from the post within 24 hours of his appointment, returned to the position and would head the government’s negotiating team at the IMF as the island nation struggles to combat the unprecedented shortage of foreign reserves. Former Justice Minister Sabry told Parliament that he had resigned from the post to give way for someone more suitable to accept the post. However, since no one came forward to accept the post he decided to continue as the Finance Minister.

COLOMBO, APR 8 (PTI): Sri Lanka’s main Opposition party SJB on Friday announced that it will move a no-confidence motion against the government of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and is prepared to impeach the embattled leader if he fails to address the concerns of the public facing hardships due to the worst economic crisis. As protests continued across the country, demanding resignation of the President and the entire Rajapaksa family from the government, Opposition leader Sajith Premadasa also called for the Executive Presidency to be abolished, saying power should be divided between the Executive, Legislature and Judiciary. “The government must pay heed to the public demand for the Rajapaksas to quit, if not we will bring a no confidence motion,” the leader of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) told Parliament. It’s the same room that we did the ‘Barn Jams’ with Rick Wright back in 2007. Janina Pedan made the set in a day and we had Andriy singing on the screen while we played, so the four of us had a vocalist, albeit not one who was physically
present with us.” Gilmour also discussed how he had played with Khlyvnyuk’s band in 2015 as part of a benefit gig for the Belarus Free Theatre, and that the singer was midway through a US tour with Boombox this February when he returned to his homeland to fight on the frontline against the Russians. On ‘Hey, Hey, Rise Up!’, Khlyvnyuk is sampled singing patriotic Ukranian song ‘The Red Viburnum’ in Sofiyskaya Square in the capital Kyiv, which was captured in a viral Instagram video recently sent to Gilmour. “He stands in a square in Kyiv with this beauti-
ful gold-domed church and sings in the silence of a city with no traffic or background noise because of the war,” Gilmour said. “It was a powerful moment that made me want to put it to music.” “I thought: that is pretty magical and maybe I can do something with this,” Gilmour told the Guardian of the footage in a new interview about the comeback. “I’ve got a big platform that [Pink Floyd] have worked on for all these years. Taking High Blood Pressure Drugs Properly
M
edically Reviewed by James Beckerman, MD, FACC If you’re like most people with high blood pressure, drugs are a major part of your plan to lower your blood pressure. Your doctor’s goal is to find the right combination of high blood pressure medicines that accomplishes these goals: L owe r s yo u r h i g h blood pressure to normal levels Is easy to take Has few or no side effects How can you work with your doctor to make sure your high blood pressure medicine is meeting these goals? Perhaps these 10 tips can help. Make a List of All of Your High Blood Pressure Medications Your doctor has many high blood pressure medications to choose from. They work in different ways to lower your blood pressure. Each type of drug has its own possible side effects, so it’s a good idea to know exactly which high blood pressure medicines you take. Ask your doctor or pharmacist these questions: What are the names of my high blood pressure drugs? Ask for both the brand name and the generic name. How does this medication help lower my blood pressure? What is the dose? How often do I take the medication? K Y M C
Make a list of your high blood pressure drugs, and make a few copies of the list. Take the list with you whenever you visit a health care professional. Give copies to any family members or friends who help with your health care. Know the Possible Side Effects of Your High Blood Pressure Drugs Each type of high blood pressure drug has possible side effects. Some side effects may be temporary; some may be more lasting. Some side effects are bothersome; some may be potentially dangerous. Ask your doctor or pharmacist these questions about each of your medications: What side effects might occur? Which are common and which are rare? What should I do if I notice side effects? Are there medicines, food, or beverages that can interact with this drug? What are serious side effects that I need to be aware of ? Take Your High Blood Pressure Drugs Exactly as Prescribed
High blood pressure drugs work best if you take them as your doctor has prescribed them. So you need to take the right amount at the right times every day. Ask your doctor or pharmacist these questions: How much of the medication should I take? How often should I take it? Are there special instructions, such as to take the drug with food? What should I do if I miss a dose? Make a Habit out of Taking Your High Blood Pressure Drugs It’s easier to take your high blood pressure drugs exactly as prescribed when you make it a part of your daily routine. Try some of these ideas to help you remember to take your medication: Link taking your medicine with another daily routine, such as brushing your teeth or fixing your morning coffee. Every time you take your medication, mark it down on a calendar or in
a notebook. This also gives you a record you can show your doctor so you can both determine how well the medicine is working. Place reminders in key spots. Sticky notes are great -- they come in a variety of colors and shapes to get your attention. Put reminder notes in places you’re likely to see them, such as on your bathroom mirror or by the kitchen sink. Have a family member or friend call or email you to remind you to take your medicine.

Use of viagra may lead to blindness
R
egular use of viagra, used to treat erectile dysfunction, can harm your vision leaving you blind, a study has claimed. Researchers from the University of British Columbia in Canada have found that people regularly taking the common erectile dysfunction pill may be at increased risk of sudden losses of vision, flashes of light, and dark spots, Daily Mail reported. The reason may be an increase in blood flow to the genitals which could be hindering its supply to the eyes, the researchers said. The team also named other impotence medicines - Cialis, Levitra and Spedra - as being potential triggers of eye problems. Regular users of the impotence pills are 85 per cent more likely to develop serious visionrobbing conditions, revealed
the study published in JAMA Ophthalmology. “These are rare conditions, and the risk of developing one remains very low for any individual user. However, the sheer number of prescriptions dispensed each month in the US - about 20 million - means that a significant number of people could be impacted,” lead researcher Dr Mahyar Etminan, an ophthalmologist at the varsity, was quoted as saying. “Regular users who find any changes in their vision should take it seriously and seek medical attention,” he suggested. In the study, the team analysed insurance claim records of 213,033 men using ED pills: 123,347 men took sildenafil - the medication branded as Viagra by Pfizer, 78,609 were on tadalafil (Cialis); 6,604 took vardenafil (Levitra), and 4,473 were on avanfil (Spedra), the report said. Jr Women’s WC: India thrash S Korea 3-0; storm into semis
Indian players celebrate scoring a goal.
P OTC H E F S T RO O M (SOUTH AFRICA), APR 8 (IANS): India came up with a clinical performance to subdue South Korea 3-0 and storm into the semifinals of the FIH Hockey Women’s Junior World Cup 2021 at the North West University grounds here on
Friday. Playing as a cohesive unit and maintaining their structure throughout the quarterfinal clash, the Indian girls dominated twotime champions Korea, who played well in defence but lacked the creative spark upfront to overcome the Indian
defence. Mumtaz Khan (10th minute), Lalrindiki (14th min) and Sangita Kumari scored the goals for India who now will meet the winner of the quarterfinal clash between three-time champions, the Netherlands, and hosts South Africa later in
the day. This is the second time that India have reached the semifinals in the FIH Hockey Women’s Junior World Cup. In the 2013 edition, India had reached the last-4 before eventually settling for a bronze medal. India started well and scored twice in the first quarter via Mumtaz Khan, who deflected in a penalty corner attempt in the 10th minute, and through forward Lalrindiki, who tapped in a rebound off a shot by Lalremsiami from near the goalmouth in the 14th minute. They continued to dominate the second quarter too but could not add any more goals to the score. Mumtaz, Lalremsiami Beauty Dung Dung and Sangita missed some great opportunities to score. While Mumtaz and Lalremsiami shot just wide, Sangita
and Beauty were thwarted by the defenders as they went into the half-time break leading 2-0. India, coached by Erik Wonink, continued in the same manner in the third quarter and Lalremsiami, and Beauty Dung Dung were thwarted in their attempts. However, Sangita made it 3-0 when she shot home a disguised short pass by Beauty to get past the Korean goalkeeper and a defender. India could have made it 4-0 in the fourth quarter but Sangita Kumari struck the upright from a narrowangle after making a good run into the circle. Overall, the Indian girls enjoyed 56 per cent possession as compared to 44 by the Koreans and created three penalty corners, scoring off one, while their opponents had just one, of which they shot wide.

the ball from a tight angle into the side netting, Xinhua reports. The hosts got a penalty awarded at the other end of the pitch but Sergio Busquet’s challenge
inside Barcelona’s box was overruled after a review in the 38th minute. Frankfurt caught a fairy-tale start into the second half and opened the scoring through Dortmund loanee Ansgar Knauff, who controlled a Filip Kostic corner at the edge of the box before drilling the ball past Marc Andre ter Stegen into the top right corner. Barcelona remained unfazed and answered in the 66th minute when substitute Frenkie de Jong traded passes with Torres, who found the bottom corner from a central position. The hosts had to swallow another
setback in the 78th minute as Tuta received his marching orders after booking his second yellow card for a foul on Pedri. Barcelona pressed forward but Frankfurt’s defence stood firm to take a 1-1 draw into the second leg at Camp Nou. “We played out a 1-1 draw against Barcelona, but we are a bit disappointed as we played very well and worked out many clear-cut chances. We must build on this result in the second leg next week. Today we showed that we can hold the pace with one of the best teams,” said Frankfurt goalkeeper Kevin Trapp.

Korea Open 2022: Srikanth, Sindhu enter semifinals
LONDON, APR 8 (REUTERS): Former world number one Serena Williams hinted on Thursday that she could make her long-awaited return at Wimbledon in June, exactly a year since she last played on the tour at the same Grand Slam. Williams, 40, limped out of last year’s first-round match at Wimbledon in tears due to a leg injury. She also skipped the Olympics in Tokyo and the U.S. Open in 2021 due to the hamstring injury, as well as the Australian Open earlier this year. On an Instagram story with NFL quarterback Aaron Rodgers, Serena said: “We’ve been talking about my comeback and he’s been hyping me up and getting me ready for Wimbledon. Can’t wait!” When Rodgers asked her about a potential comeback at the U.S. Open, she added: “Wimbledon’s before the U.S. Open, I’ve got to play Wimbledon first. Exciting!” Wimbledon runs from June 27-July 10. Williams has won the grasscourt major seven times, with her last success coming in 2016. Earlier on Thursday, her long-time coach Patrick Mouratoglou revealed he was now working full-time with twice Grand Slam champion Simona Halep after speaking to Williams.
PV Sindhu and Kidambi Srikanth
SUNCHEON (SOUTH KOREA), APR 8 (IANS): Former world champion PV Sindhu and silver medallist Kidambi Srikanth advanced to the semifinals after winning their respective men’s and women’s singles events at the Korea Open Badminton Championships 2022 at the Palma Stadium, here on Friday. Sindhu, seventh in the badminton rankings, defeated world No 11 Busanan Ongbamrungphan of Thailand 21-10, 21-16 while Srikanth eked out a 21-12, 1821, 21-12 win against South Korea’s Son Wan Ho in the quarterfinals of the BWF Super 500 event. Sindhu, who had also won last month’s Swiss Open final against Busanan Ongbamrungphan, dominated the match from the start and won the first game convincingly. Despite putting up a better performance in the second game, there was no respite for the Thai shuttler against the two-time Olympic medallist as the Indian
ace cruised to victory in 44 minutes. This was Sindhu’s 17th win against Busanan Ongbamrungphan from the 18 times the two shuttlers have faced each other. Provided there is no upset, the Indian shuttler will likely face world No 4 An Seyoung of South Korea next. PV Sindhu had lost to the South Korean shuttler in the summit clash of last year’s BWF World Tour Finals. In the men’s singles, Srikanth, world No 12, came into the match having a 4-7 head-to-head record against 78th-ranked Son Wan Ho of South Korea. Former world No 1 Son Wan Ho, who was out of action for the most part of the last two years, lost the match in an hour and two minutes to the sixth seed Indian. Kidambi Srikanth, also a former world No 1, is slated to face the winner of the match between third seed Jonatan Christie of Indonesia and eighth seed Kunlavut Vitidsarn of Thailand in the semi-finals.

IPL: Gujarat beat Punjab in last over thriller
MUMBAI, APR 8 (IANS): Rahul Tewatia struck two sixes on the last two balls of the match off Odean Smith as Gujarat Titans defeated Punjab Kings by six wickets in a thrilling encounter in the IPL 2022 at the Brabourne Stadium here on Friday. From 21 of nine deliveries to 18 off the last five deliveries to be bowled by Smith, Tewatia and David Miller brought it to 13 off three balls when Miller scrambled for a single, leaving Tewatia the unenviable task of hitting two sixes off the last two deliveries of the match and win it for Gujarat Titans, who successfully chased a target of 190. Chasing a target of 190, Gujarat looked cruising to victory with opener Shubman Gill and skipper Hardik Pandya leading the charge. But both got off at the most inappropriate time -- Gill just four short
of his century and Pandya run out off the first ball of the final over. It looked like the match had slipped out of their hands before Tewatia intervened so brilliantly.
