Demand for Tobu distt grows

DIMAPUR, APR 29 (NPN): Over a hundred people from Tobu area called on Nagaland chief minister, Dr. Shürhozelie Liezietsu on Friday to mount pressure for creation of Tobu district, spearheaded by the Tobu District Demand Committee (TDDC). In a press note, TDDC secretary Shamoh Konyak informed that a delegation of over 100 people from Tobu area led by TDDC met chief minister, Dr. Shürhozelie Liezietsu at his residence on Saturday, wherein a reaffirmation letter for district demand was submitted. In the letter, TDDC reminded the chief minister that the state government in 1987, having understood the difficulties and administrative inconveniences of Tobu, posted I. Alienba Ao as the deputy commissioner of Tobu. The then DC’s proposal to upgrade Tobu subdivision to Tobu district

remained unfulfilled since then, TDDC stated. It also pointed out that a report of the district administrative re-organization committee 2016 led by R. Kevichusa (IAS Retd) as the chairman was already submitted to the state government. However, no action was taken by the state government with regard to the demand, TDDC said. Tobu District Demand Committee asserted that “the demand for Tobu district was a public cry for justice due to prolonged years of negligence and for being left in the periphery of administrative headquarter for so long”, since villages under Tobu area were more than 190 kms away from Mon headquarter. In this regard, TDDC said it was a serious demand for just and effective convenience. During the brief meeting with the chief minister held at the state banquet hall, Tobu District Demand

CEC selects candidates for elections to Lok Sabha and state assemblies. The reshuffle comes roughly a month after Singh was blamed for delaying government formation in Goa, despite the Congress emerging as the largest party. The BJP succeeded in cobbling together a coalition and chief minister Manohar Parrikar even offered “special thanks” to Singh for “doing nothing” and enabling the saffron party-led government. Singh continues to be party general secretary incharge of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Another Congress general secretary P.C. Joshi in-charge of North Eastern states Manipur and Arunachal appears to have escaped the gallows. Party insiders blame Joshi for the flop show in Manipur where the Congress with 28 seats could not form the government and eventually BJP which won 21 seats was able to cobble a simple majority to form the government. Party sources said Joshi went to Imphal only after counting and failed to coordinate with Ibobi to garner support of three MLAs to form the government.

Male chauvinism has no room in a civilised society: SC NEW DELHI, APR 29 (AGENCIES): Male chauvinism has no room in a civilised society and the “obnoxious” act of eveteasing affected justice and the rights of a woman, the Supreme Court has held. SC made this observation while dismissing a plea filed by a man who was sentenced to seven years in jail by the Himachal Pradesh HC for teasing and compelling a girl to take the extreme step of committing suicide. Observing that “egoism must succumb to law”, a bench headed by Justice Dipak Misra asked why women in India cannot be allowed to live in peace. “It has to be kept in mind that she has a right to life and is entitled to love according to her choice. She has an individual choice which has been legally recognised. No one can compel a woman to love. She has the absolute right to reject.” It observed that they were at pains to state that in a civilised society, eveteasing was causing harassment to women in public places which showed that requisite sense of respect for women has not been socially cultivated.
