Demand for Tobu distt grows

DIMAPUR, APR 29 (NPN): Over a hundred people from Tobu area called on Nagaland chief minister, Dr. Shürhozelie Liezietsu on Friday to mount pressure for creation of Tobu district, spearheaded by the Tobu District Demand Committee (TDDC).

In a press note, TDDC secretary Shamoh Konyak informed that a delegation of over 100 people from Tobu area led by TDDC met chief minister, Dr. Shürhozelie Liezietsu at his residence on Saturday, wherein a reaffirmation letter for district demand was submitted.

In the letter, TDDC reminded the chief minister that the state government in 1987, having understood the difficulties and administrative inconveniences of Tobu, posted I. Alienba Ao as the deputy commissioner of Tobu.

remained unfulfilled since then, TDDC stated.

It also pointed out that a report of the district administrative re-organization committee 2016 led by R. Kevichusa (IAS Retd) as the chairman was already submitted to the state government. However, no action was taken by the state government with regard to the demand, TDDC said.

Tobu District Demand Committee asserted that “the demand for Tobu district was a public cry for justice due to prolonged years of negligence and for being left in the periphery of administrative headquarter for so long”, since villages under Tobu area were more than 190 kms away from Mon headquarter. In this regard, TDDC said it was a serious demand for just and effective convenience.

NEW DELHI, APR 29 (AGENCIES): AICC general secretary Digvijaya Singh was removed as Congress in-charge of poll bound Karnataka including Goa, the latter state where the party failed to form the government despite winning 17 seats with the support of four other MLAs. The move comes roughly a month after Digvijaya Singh was blamed for delaying government formation in Goa despite the Congress emerging as the largest party.

On March 18, Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) chief Luizinho Faleiro obliquely blamed AICC general secretary Digvijaya Singh and Goa screening committee chief KC Venugopal for the party’s inability to form a government in the state. Faleiro claimed that the Congress had the support of 21 MLAs to form a government but Digvijaya Singh suggested that Congress should wait till Goa governor Mridula Sinha invited it to form the government. Eventually the independent MLAs went to the BJP and helped Parrikar Correspondent form the government.

The attack that killed the two civilians took place at a place between Sawnphu (Manipur) and Kheman (Myanmar) along the border in Churachandpur district around 7.50am. Reports said that the suspected rebels fired several rounds towards moving water tanker killing the driver and his helper.

The slain driver was identified as Ginlan Khaute (50) of Singhat village of Churachandpur district and the helper as Liallianmang (40) of Behiang village of same district.

The suspects further engaged in a heavy exchange of fire at Behiang post with 36 Assam Rifles troops who rushed to the spot.

However, the suspects managed to escape towards Myanmar side, police here said. There was no report of casualty on either side, they added.

Churachandpur-based Zomi Students’ Federation (ZSF) has condemned the killing and alleged that a valley-based underground group was behind “the heinous crime” that claimed lives of two civilians.

In another incident, suspected militants fired some round towards the residence of former MLA W Brajabidhu at Lamshang in Imphal West district in the wee hours of Saturday. No casualty was reported in the firing.

A low intensity IED blast was also reported early Saturday morning, around 7am at a place near the temporary ROP post of CI post Lamlai in Imphal east district.

No casualty was reported in the blast, which the police suspect was triggered using a remote-controlled device.

Committee co-convenor, S.P. Pongba apprised the chief minister of the grievances faced by the people of the area.

Another member, P. Longang also highlighted to the chief minister, the infrastructure imbalances in the district which had led to the deprivation of the people of Tobu and Moka areas.

TDDC convenor and former MLA, A. Nyamnyei while reminding the chief minister that the public of Tobu and Moka area had been a strong supporter of NPF party, was hopeful that the present NPF-led DAN government would fulfil the aspiration of the people’s demand for the Tobu district.

In its earlier statement, Tobu District Demand Committee had reiterated that the public of Tobu and Moka was still “firm on the demand of Tobu District since the public movement for the demand of Tobu District began in 2006.”

CHANDIGARH, APR 29 (IANS): The Election Commission of India may soon call a meeting of all political parties in order to convince and assure them that the electronic voting machines (EVMs) cannot be hacked, Chief Election Commissioner Nasim Zaidi said here on Saturday.

“We will soon hold an all-party meeting to tell them told that our EVMs are nontamperable and secured as per our administrative and technical safeguard system,” Zaidi told reporters here.

He said that the poll panel intends to use Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) units attached with EVMs in the coming elections for greater transparency and restore voters’ confidence in the electoral process.

A VVPAT churns out a paper slip confirming the party and candidate a person has voted for. This slip is kept in EDC records for future reference.

NEW DELHI, APR 29 (NPN): The Ministry of Urban Development (MoUD) has approved for Nagaland the State Annual Action Plans (SAAPs) for the duration of 2017-2020 worth Rs.45 crore under Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT).

The ministry in a series of tweets stated that development projects worth Rs. 75 crore have been planned for implementation under AMRUT in Nagaland.

MoUD also informed that DPRs of development projects worth Rs. 34 crore have been approved for Nagaland. It stated that 12 projects have been planned for implementation in Nagaland.

The ministry further informed that four projects for the Development of Parks and Green Spaces have been planned for implementation in Nagaland.

Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation (MHUPA) has sanctioned 13,560 affordable houses for urban poor in Nagaland under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) and has approved Rs.335 crore investment.

For the whole country, the ministry has sanctioned 1,00,537 more houses for urban poor under PMAY (Urban) with an investment of Rs.4,200 crore taking the total investment so far approved to Rs.1,00,466 crore.

With the latest sanctions, the Ministry has so far approved construction of 18,75,389 houses for Economically Weaker Sections under PMAY(Urban) in 2,151 cities and towns in 34 States/UTs. T h e t o t a l i nve s t ment approved so far includes central assistance of Rs.29,409 cr, assistance from State governments and beneficiary contribution.

NEW DELHI/GUWAHATI, Apr 29 (Agencies): Reserve Bank of India (RBI) issued a circular to banks asking them to accept faded notes or those with ink marks or scribbles. In a Circular to banks, RBI said such banknotes have to be treated as “soiled notes” and dealt with according to the RBI’s “clean note policy,” which asks banks to not turn away customers with soiled notes and also refrain from recycling the soiled notes received by them over their counters.

The statement was issued after the central bank received complaints that many branches were not accepting banknotes, with anything written on them or those either smudged with colour or faded due to washing.

The central bank clarified that its instructions on scribbling on notes was a directive for staffers to not to write on banknotes. Bank branches have been rejecting such notes following

Addressing the gathering on the occasion, Peseyie lauded the author for writing the book which

was relevant with the present situation of the ongoing Indo-Naga peace talk. He said the book would give an insight to the people especially the Nagas and become a treasure for the generations to come.

On Naga Peace Talk, Peseyie said the government of India need to analyse and understand the history of the Naga political movement from the initial stage to the various sequence of

In his speech, Azo c o n g r a t u l a t e d M AYO on attaining 25 years, he encouraged them to continue to work for their people and reminded them that jubilee was the time for restoration and liberation and reconciliation.

Azo recalled that Chakhesangs were better known as “Easter n

Angamis” but later in the year 1946, Chakhesang tribe came into being with the blessings of their elder brother Angamis and till now the Chakhesang and Angami still maintain a close brotherly relationship.

Likewise, he said, some decades ago, Chakhesang and Pochury were also one and only in the year 1990, the Pochurys were separated from Chakhesangs and further became recognised as a separate tribe with the blessings of the Chakhesangs.

He said Pochury are blessed tribe and lauded their achievements and contribution to the Naga society. He also appealed

them not to forget the “brotherly relationship” maintained by the ancestors of Chakhesang and Pochury.

Azo also expressed concern over the “present fractured Naga society, inter-ethnic conflict, insurgency and other antisocial elements that has plague the Naga society”.

In this regard, he called upon Pochurys to come forward to promote and work together for the unity of the Nagas.

DIMAPUR: Minister for Health & Family Welfare (H&FW), P. Longon on April 28 inaugurated the Operation Theatre Complex at Hezukhu Memorial District Hospital (HMDH), Zunheboto, DIPR report informed.

Speaking at the inaugural program, Longon remarked that in his three years as minister in- charge of H&FW, he had visited visit all the 11 district hospital and found Zunheboto district hospital as the worst in the entire state in terms of infrastructures and manpower.

He lamented that 12 NLA was greatly hampered due to power tussle, for which many developmental activities were also affected.

In an effort to address the issue, Longon said Zunheboto district hospital would also be included in the next Forward Linkage Scheme funded by NRHM for construction of new building.

Speaking on the occasion as chief guest, the parliamentary secretary for animal husbandry and veterinary services (AHVS), S Chuba Longkumer, said that veterinarians played an important role in economic growth as animal husbandry was an integral component of Indian agriculture supporting livelihood of more than two third of rural

population.

He said that the veterinarians by looking after the health and welfare of animals were protecting and improving the health of the human beings since many human diseases were zoonotic diseases.

The parliamentar y s e c r e t a r y s a i d i t wa s estimated that among five new emerging infectious human diseases that appeared each year, three of them were related to animals.

In this regard, L o n g k u m e r u r ge d t h e veterinarians to be devoted, sincere and constantly keep themselves updated with modern technology and information.

Also, pointing out

that in 2010-11 livestock generated 4% of the GDP and 26% of the agricultural GDP, the parliamentary secretary said the total output worth was higher than the value of food grains while it also provides employment to about 8.8 % of the population in India.

He asserted that healthy and productive livestock make important contribution to food production, income generation, job creation and economic growth.

C h a i r m a n DA N , NBRM, Dr. Longriniken, who graced the occasion as guest of honour, reminded that the profession required more sincerity, honesty, courage, endurance, hard work and determination to achieve success.

Recalling his experiences as veterinary p r o f e s s i o n a l , D r.

Longriniken said that though the profession was tiring and sometimes frustrating there was always a reward for the veterinarians.

He called upon the veterinarians to make a plan to bring catalytic changes for economic uplift of the state. Dr. Longriniken also asked them not to rely on government job alone, saying as professionals, it was the duty of the veterinarians to explore and nourish the people. Dr. Longriniken

further called for change of mindset and attitude to widen the horizon as the veterinarians were no less than any other professions.

He expressed confidence that with the high market demand of the product in the state, the veterinarians could contribute a lot to state economic enhancement.

In his keynote address, NSVC vice president, Dr. Aomangyang Walling, said veterinary services including veterinarians and veterinary professionals had a key role to play in the fight against antimicrobial resistance through their role in regulating and supervising the use of antimicrobials, offering professional advice to farmers and animal owners and collaborating with the human health sector.

Walling said that to continue to progress in disease control management and in improving animal we l f a r e, ve t e r i n a r i a n s needed to encourage and achieve a sustainable change in behaviour towards a responsible and prudent antimicrobial use.

On the occasion, Dr. Inato Zhimimi was also awarded the best veterinarian of the year 2017. The programme was chaired by NSVC president, Dr. I. P Khala.

(NP) Correspondent KOHIMA, APR 29 (NPN): Nagaland chief secretary, Pankaj Kumar, has asserted that implementation of Goods and Services Tax (GST) would be beneficial for the state as existing taxes would be merged into a single system of taxation and termed it as an efficient policy.

He was speaking at an “Awareness Campaign on GST” organised by Central Excise, Custom and Service Tax and Nagaland Taxes Department, Saturday at Angami Public Organisation (APO) Hall Kohima.

With the implementation of GST, the chief secretary said that payment of sales taxes, including Central Sales Tax (CST) would also become easier.

Nagaland being a con-

sumer state, Kumar said that states like Nagaland would benefit more from GST as the state’s share would directly reach the state through direct benefit transfer for the products meant for the state. He said GST would be a major improvement over existing system and a significant step towards a comprehensive tax reform in Nagaland.

Informing that GST would be paid online, the chief secretary pointed out that the initial few months would be imperative and urged business community in Nagaland extend cooperation and also partake in trainings so as to avoid any complications.

In his address, chief commissioner customs, central excise and service tax North East Region, S.K Panda, said with the

implementation of GST, Nagaland and the nation would have a new economy law which would be beneficial for everyone.

The chief commissioner maintained that government and consumers would subsequently benefit from GST adding that it was meant for the common man.

Commissioner of Taxes, Nagaland, Asangba Chuba Ao, while highlighting the benefits of GST said that it would reduce cascading of taxes and also overall prices of goods.

He informed that it would be beneficial for small taxpayers as all the taxes would be paid for once unlike the present system where tax has to be paid at various stations. Ao then said “GST will also abolish CST while the exports would be zero rated.”

Commissioner of Taxes informed that GST would be applicable on the supply of goods or services besides being destination based consumption tax. Tax payers with an aggregate turnover in a financial year up to Rs 10 lakh would be exempted from tax, he added.

SBLD youth camp underway DIMAPUR: Three-day youth camp of Sangtam Baptist Lithro Dimapur got underway at Phutoi Zhimomi’s Farm, Niuland under Dimapur district with Associate Secretary USBLA Sub-Centre, Longri and Pastor, Chungtor Baptist Lithro, Kijungzi as speakers. The youth camp which began on April 28 is being organized under the theme “Ignite the soul” with youth pastor SBLD, Chempong M.Mongzar as the camp director.

Speaker Longri on the inaugural session, stressed on the relationship with Christ as a Christian while co-speaker Kijungzi spoke on the second day.

Around 150 youths from Sangtam Baptist Lithro are attending the camp.

Apple growers of Thanamir village and resource persons.

DIMAPUR: Training on “Scientific cultivation practices of apple & its post harvest management” at Thanamir village was conducted by district administration Pungro in collaboration with Central Institute of Horticulture, Department of Agriculture Cooperation and Family Welfare, Medziphema, Dimapur, and with the assistance of Department of Development of Underdeveloped Areas (DUDA) on April 28.

Training coordinator & asst. horticulturist, CIH, Shisarenla Aier gave a power-point presentation on production technology of apples, propagation techniques, training and pruning

and grafting techniques.

During an interaction with the farmers, common pest infections and Apple diseases were identified as the main reasons for decreased production and premature death of apple trees.

Resource person dwelt on the importance of the use of integrated pest management and use of organic pesticides along with weed management techniques to control pest infection and to increase the yield of apples.

Other topics like grafting method and propagation of root stock methods were discussed.

Post harvest specialist, CIH, Manzar Hossian imparted training on the im-

portance of value addition in apples and demonstrated the preparation of apple juice and apple chutney to the trainees.

The chairperson of the programme, SDO (C) Pungro, Chonpenthung Ezung encouraged trainees to take up apple production as a challenge for long term prospect and economic viable alternative source of income.

He also made an appeal to the concerned department to take up the apple project in Thanamir on a mission mode. Around 70 Apple growers and all the village council members of Thanamir village attended the programme.

Lun Tungnung, in his speech, asked the community to unite and work together to protect the rights and privileges of the tribes within the state.

He asserted that wherever one may be the society includes minority, majority community thereby all should learn to live in unity.

“Community should learn work harder and struggle. And especially, youngsters should focus on education than only we can live in security”, he added.

He further asked the community to mark the festival, a day to encourage each other to live in harmony.

The programme highlighted cultural show which was marked open by Kachari Tribal Council Nagaland (KTCN) advisor Dhananjoy Basumatari.

Various traditional games, competition such as smashing earthen pot blindfolded, tug of war, batha gelenia and traditional dance performance by various cultural groups and singing by invited artists enthralled the gathering with their performances.

It may be mentioned that the festival was organized with the objective to mark the celebration of spring festival Rongjali Bwishagu and bring about harmonious relationship amongst all Kachari subtribes like Boro, Dimasa, Mech, Sonowal, Rabha, Garo etc. living in nearby areas and building mutual friendship, brotherhood, peace and harmony with people of Nagaland in particular and public in general living in the border areas of Assam-Nagaland through cultural exchange programme.

TMC not joining BJP in Tripura Chakraborty, who was a minister in the Congress government (1988-1993), joined the TMC many years ago and shaped the party in the Left-ruled state.

TMC supremo and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee last week in an interview to a Kolkatabased television channel indicated that Barman and other party MLAs of Tripura went to Delhi to meet central BJP leaders.

Barman however denied Banerjee’s observations and said that they went to Delhi to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi to apprise him about certain issues of Tripura, including chit fund related matters.

Itanagar, Apr 29 (PTI): Security forces ar rested a NSCN (K) militant with arms and ammunition at Longding district in Ar unachal Pradesh, a defence spokesman said today.

Following intelligence inputs, personnel of the Khonsa battalion of Assam Rifles launched an operation at Kunsa village and caught the militant yesterday.

A point 22 mm pistol with five live rounds of ammunition were recovered from his possession, Defence spokesman Colonel Chiranjeet Konwer said in a statement here.

Guwahati, Apr 29 (PTI): Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal today claimed that corrupt practices had gone down substantially in the state and his government would continue to fight against corruption.

“Due to relentless efforts of the state government, corr upt practices have substantially gone down in the state from 34 per cent in 2005 to 18 per cent in 2017 and this has been possible as a result of collective initiative of the people of Assam”, Sonowal said while launching the ‘Excise Online’, a web portal of the state Excise Department.

He also inaugurated 62 vehicles which will be pressed into service by the field staff of the department for carrying out operations

against violations of excise law. “Corruption results from our failure to eschew the worldly temptations.

Allurements may come in different forms, but if we could contain our desires, it is possible to stop corruption”, he added.

He also appreciated the Excise Department for achieving record increase in revenue collection which has gone upto 20.8 per cent and urged the staff to work for dispelling the negative image commonly associated with the department.

He also lauded the initative of the Excise Department for taking the ‘Digital India’ movement fur ther and stated the online initiative would b o l s t e r a d m i n i s t r a t ive functioning and bring more transparency.

Tarun Gogoi condemns Nagalim plan

GUWAHATI,Apr 29 (Agencies): Former chief minister Tarun Gogoi demanded on Friday that the Centre and state government assure the people of Assam that not an inch of the state’s territory would be affected by NSCN-IM’s proposed territorial integrity.

Reacting to the Naga group reiterating its demand for creation of ‘Nagalim’ by integrating the contagious Nagainhabited areas, Gogoi said, “There seems to some commitment made by Centre to

To keep such an important document under wraps for long raises doubts about its veracity.” “We will oppose tooth and nail any move that will affect the interest of Assam. The Central and state govermments must assure the state that its geographical boundary under the Constitution is kept intact,” Gogoi said.

Cheated by lover, teenage girl commits suicide Kolkata, Apr 29 (IANS): A teenaged girl committed suicide in West Bengal’s Nadia district after her lover allegedly cheated on her and was marrying someone else, police said on Saturday.

“Jasmine Khatoon, a class 11 student from Nadia district’s Hanskhali, allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself on hearing that her boyfriend Pisa Mondal was on his way to marry a different girl on Sunday evening,” a police officer said.

“Police have arrested Mondal on the charges of abetment of suicide (IPC 306),” the officer said.

Khatoon, who was in a relationship with Mondal for a long time, was recently depressed over relationship issues, police said. “The family members of the deceased stopped the marriage procession and apprehended the accused from the spot. He was later handed over to the police,” the officer added.

The students were from Balgurghat Law College in Malda, affiliated to the University of Gour Banga.

“They were third semester students at the college. They could have written wrong answers but they chose to write slang, abuses and things about love, including lines from Hindi and Bengali film songs.

“A fact finding committee was formed to probe this and the guilty have been suspended for two years,” Sanatan Das, Controller of Examinations (Additional Charge), at the varsity told IANS over phone on Saturday. Das said the students have admitted in writing that they had written “nonsense.”

Trump’s mixed bag

D

onald Trump the 45th president of the United States of America has completed100 days in office out of the total of 1460 days of a fouryear tenure. The one hundred days in office may not be much to mention but it must be pointed out that Trump had gone straight ahead in trying to fulfil all his election promises. He succeeded in some and could not in others but all in all, he proved to be a man of his words; never mind that all the promises could not be fulfilled. The American mainstream media has to accept the reality that Trump is the president of the United States of America having won legitimate electoral votes even if he could not win majority of popular votes. This happens in any country even in India, where the ruling BJP had won only 30% of the popular votes but grabbed a massive 282 seats in the Lok Sabha. The Trump administration has had to confront the threats in the Syrian front as well as the Afghan area. In firing Tomahawk missiles at Syria, Trump sent a clear signal that inhuman use of sarin gas, banned by the UN, used in any form and that too against its own civilians by the Assad regime, will not be tolerated.

The fall of 36 per cent, compared with a year earlier, was taken by the Trump administration to indicate that its hard line on illegal immigration was having an impact.

Trump has brought a disruptive style of functioning in the White House and benefitted out of it. It is left to be seen if the nation, in the next 100 days will approve of his achievements.

But when we have the right relationship with God, life is full of spontaneous, joyful uncertainty and expectancy. Jesus said, “…believe also in Me” (John 14:1), not, “Believe certain things about Me”. Leave everything to Him and it will be gloriously and graciously uncertain how He will come in– but you can be certain that He will come. Remain faithful to Him.

he Congress is a great national party which brought independence to India. It became the largest political force to rule India for the longest period in the post-independence era and also developed it in various fields. India owes Congress for its patriotism and historic contribution. It has brought tremendous achievements to India during its 60 years plus rule in both theindustrial and agricultural sectors.

In the Initial period, the Congress rule in Nagaland was honest. The elected leaders were loyal to the people and no corruption was ever known. We should ever appreciate the Congress for whatever sacrifice it had made towards the people of India and Nagaland. However, the Congress party rule transformed into a highly and systematically corrupt form later and failed the nation. We cannot blame the Congress for all the failures.

There are some factors that led to its gradual and inevitable declination.

Constant rampant corruption, scams, non-transparency, non-accountability, mismanagement of affairs, high life style andunfriendly VIP culture have attributed to its downfall. People lost confidence in the high handedness of Congress dynastic system.

Corruption under the Congress rule was at the zenith. The richer became richer with unaccounted wealth and riches and the poor poorer. Various schemes and projects well designed to promote the poor and eradicate poverty ended up in widening gap between the haves and have-nots.

The worst is that it has transformed India into one of the most corrupt nations of the world (as per the Corruption Perception Index).Precisely, these have been the conditions and circumstances which made people groaning fora better socialchange. It would be hard forpeople to come back and support the same oldleadersand the party they had already left even if the Congress or its off shoot leaders try hard to turn people against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). It was a great blunder that Congress had played politics of losing supporters.

It failed to understand the mood of the people. It is noticeable that people want new visionary, talented leaders

and new party. The Congress is solely responsible for its poll debacle and not because the BJP has emerged in the national political arena. The people of India have repaid what it has paid to them. There is a season for everything and now is the season for the BJP to nurtureits fieldsand reap the fruit.

BJP is a national political party which is ruling at the center and 13 states of India. People have accepted the BJP because it is found to be people oriented, competent, visionary and pro poor with political will to transform the society. The deplorable social conditions in India on the eve of BJP rule cannot be ignored all together. BJP came as one of the alternative parties to INC or the Congress and people of India have considered it as the best substitute.

If BJP had not emerged there might be another party to take the place as people had determined to punish and oust the Congress. People have chosen pro poor programs and all round development by electing the BJP to power and not a mere political party.The blame for every communal act by Hindu fanatics is thrown on the BJP or NarendraModior the NDA government. However, the BJP as a political party or the NDA as coalition government or Modi as the PM has nothing to do with communal activities. And if there is any allegation against the same should be supported with proof and evidence.

If anyone is inciting communal disharmonyat an individual capacity, the party or government should not be held responsible. India has a strong and matured judiciary system.Let the law take its own course of action. Advocating BJP does not mean betraying or leaving Christian faith.

Nor does it mean being irreligious or non-religious for Christians.The faith and loyalty to be true Christians lie in our hearts and not in supporting or going against a political party. It is peoples’ resolution and mandate to achieve economic independence which is referred to as second independence. An appeal to the government with regard to Article 371 (A)

e all have very recently dealt with the problems which occured at the present ULB Election regarding the 33% reservation quota and the article 371 (A).

1. It is well known that Nagaland State is recognized with 16 major tribes and the customary law of all tribes is also different. The various political groups in Nagaland recognizes more than 40 sub-tribes along with their custom and usages.

2. Many people are not fully aware that this article 371 (A) was formulated to preserve the customary law and tradition of the Nagas. The Naga customary laws and usages are quite different from those off the mainland and such in order to preserve it Nagas should grasp the contents of 371 (A) Article.

3. As we all have faced the consequences in the last ULB Election which led to death of 3 Lives of the Nagas and the general refusal for such U.L.B. election, and if we don’t preserve the traditions and values of our land, then in future also we are going to face such problems and many more will be killed.

4. In every aspect of life, Nagas tradition, customs and usages are very different from those of the mainland.

5. We all know that many highly educated and the present generation are not aware of the contents of Article 371 (A) article which was signed between the Nagas and the Indian Government in Shillong Accord.

6. The G.B’s are an important component of the modern governance system in Nagaland and if the Nagas do not preserve and follow the 371 (A) article then the customary laws and tradaitions will vanish in the days to come. Often, without knowing the actual view of the 371 (A)the general public objects to the value and importance of the G.B.’s in Nagaland.

In this present context, I would like to appeal the Government of Nagaland to give more importance of the contents of Article 371 (A) by way of publishing it in the official Gazette and also in the subject of schools class 8 and above compulsory so as to enable the present generation to be aware of the true contents of 371 (A) of the constitution and to preserve the Naga customary law.

They should properly verify the allegation in case of any discrimination and violation of rights against minority community and take up the matter with the apex authority supported with proof and evidence. If top BJP party leaders could be booked under the law, then any one can be under the law. Persons who are falsely spreading hatred massage to create communal tension or gain political mile age too can be awarded penalty.We should stand fortruth. It is a matter for all of us to pay attention and ponder over and introspect as to why Nagaland is one of the most corrupt states in India with 95% Christian population.Cannot wetell more truth and become less corrupt? How can we be true Christians when we are more corrupt than others? Christianity has preached mankind to live with truth, love, humility, peace and harmony and not with corruption, falsification, fornication, arrogance and pride.

Corruption is a social evil and has no religion. Christians should learn from a Hindu PM of India who is toiling day and night to eliminate corruption, install good governance, initiate all round development and eradicate poverty. These are some tasks which a Christian state like Nagaland should have been performing since long back.

he common man in this country is confused. The ruling pray in this country; the Bharathiya Janatha Party, has spared no efforts to convince the nation that their motto is sab ke sat sab ka vikas which may be translated as development with the cooperation of all, or in other words; ‘all things to all people’.

If development is accessible to all and no citizen is excluded for what so ever reason, every Indian should be feeling good, the ecstatic feeling of ‘Acche din’which is the other motto of the ruling party. Unfortunately, the reality is that, a section of the people are anxious, afraid, confused. They belong to minority communities; ethnic, religious linguistic and cultural. The events, policy decisions that followed the victory of the ruling party makes it amply clear that, all means the majority, development means following the ancient customs of the majority be they linguistic, religious or ethnic.

The manner in which the ruling party uses f the fanatic fringe organizations of Hindu religion, makes an independent observer doubt the sincerity of the BJP leadership in their commitment to honour the constitution of India by which they swore, as well as the values of democracy that they are bound to uphold. The BJP came to power with the active support of these extreme elements of Hinduism, and these elements are demanding their pound of flesh. The cow vigilantism, yoga vigilantism are the expressions of the fanatic elements that propelled the BJP to power.

Remember Kaikeayi, one of the wives of Dasratha, who forced him to crown his son in place of Rama, the legal heir....? Epics do not lie!

Extremists, be they from religion, politics, moral or cultural affiliation, are a small percentage in the society. Since the good people are in different and inactive, the extremist elements carry the day. They will create slogans, propagate ideology and

recruit volunteers to achieve their end. Past glory and present threat to retain the past glory are the driving forces behind their actions. The minorities in India have some reasons to believe the BJP leadership, for there are many an honourable men and women among them. Will this men and women stand up to the machinations of the fanatic elements and provide a credible leadership that will focus on the development of all?

As Christians, we have reasons for our suspicion. Soon after the BJP came to power, the Government of India declared 25th December as ‘Good Governance Day’. Last year the Good Friday was made a working day for Judges to have some deliberations on Judicial reform. This year it was declared as Digital India Day. Is the GOI using such occasions as a sounding board to test the inauguration of Ramrajya? Just like other minority groups we doubt the sincerity of the BJP leadership. All the platitudes and lip service paid to democracy and development I looks could be the just the ‘Hug of Drithrastra!’

Nagaland has many temples; the Hindus have their worship and religious celebrations without harassment from any Christian organizations. Unfortunately, this is not the case in some part of India, where the religious organizations in the name of Hinduism damages Christian places of worship, assault Christians, and frame false charges against them. There is a church and temple sharing the boundary in one of the colonies of Dimapur. The Dimapur Christian Forum requests the individuals and leaders of Hindu faith to share this good news with their counterparts in other parts of India. Indo-Naga Peace Process (From previous issue) On January 23, 1993 the NSCN was admitted as the representative of the Nagas to the Unrepresented Nations and peoples Organization (UNPO) and the Naga National Flag was hoisted at the UNPO office in the Hague (Netherlands). Naga Civil Societies Organizations such as Naga Hoho, Naga Student’s Federation, Naga Peoples Movement for Human Rights, Naga Mothers Association, Naga Woman Union and Naga Churches have been largely responsible for creating awareness and educating the international community including Indian Civil Society organization on the Naga people and their struggle for their rights. Against all odds, these organization have let the international community know that the Indo-Naga issue is not Indian’s internal problem of law and order; but an unresolved political issue with geo-political implication requiring political negotiation for a peaceful solution. It is through their efforts and endeavors that Naga have reached out to the world and fostered relationship with them in the effort for Naga to live in dignity and peace. Yet another opportunity to resolve the Indo-Naga political line through peaceful means was shredded.

It would take another 33 years and the loss of thousands of lives before the Government of India and the Naga Movement entered into a bi-lateral ceasefire agreement in 1997. i). On the 12 June 1995 in Paris, France: The NSCN Collective Leadership met late Mr. P. V. Narashimla Rao: He said, “I believe in political solution. 2. On 3rd February 1997; The NSCN Collective Leadership met H.D.Deve Gowda in Zurich, Switzerland. Deve Gowda said, “We believe in

peaceful means. We must seek peaceful political solution.”

3.On 30th September 1998: The NSCN Collective Leadership met A.B.Vajpayee in Paris, France. Vajpayee said, “ I believe in peaceful Political solution; Violence and military solution is ruled out. We must seek political solution because it is a political issue”.

4. On 8th December 2002: The NSCN Leader met A.B. Vajpayee in Osaka, Japan. He said, “ We are serious, we must solve the problem by peaceful means.

We must have patience”.

5. On 10th January 2003: Meeting with A.B Vajpayee in New Delhi, India. Vajpayee assured to the Naga delegation headed by the Collective Leadership, “ Peace process will continue. A new chapter is going to be opened”.

6. On 7th December 2004: Meeting with Dr.Manmohan Singh in New Delhi, India. He said to the NAga delegation headed by the Collective Leadership, “We are equally keen to work out mutually acceptable honorable solution. We will be sincere in tackling the problem.

We will give our utmost effort to hammer out honorable solution.

We will explore jointly every possible way to bring solution.

Yes, it has to be brought mutual discussion and understanding so that solution acceptable to both parties is arrived at.

7. On 9th February 2005: Meeting with Dr. Manmahon Singh in New Delhi, India.

PM. said to the Naga delegation headed by the Collective Leadership, “I have deputed three ministers to talk with you.

We are sincere and serious we could solve the problem. The pattern of relationship should be worked out”.

8. On June 24, 2005: Th.Muivah, the Chief Negotiator met Dr. Manmahon Singh in New Delhi at his office residence.

The meeting was one to one talk between Chief Negotiator and Prime Minister: P.M said, “We are serious, sincere and have confidence that we could solve the problem through peaceful means. You have to be patient with us. We have started taking

every positive step. We do not under rate your issue. This is our assurance” In spite of the progress made, the fragility of the peace process continues to be tested at all level and demands immense wisdom and integrity from both sides. The Naga Civil Societies and traditional organizations supporting the Peace Process have continued to seek opportunities and initiatives to strengthen political negotiations for a democratic and honorable settlement.

The NSCN has also taken initiative to hold consultations with Naga Civil Societies representative including all the Naga tribal Councils and Churches. In the consultations with the NSCN, the Naga Civil Societies has extended its full support to the ongoing Peace Process between India and NSCN. The NSCN in return has made a clarion call to every Naga, Irrespective of their past and standing , to participate in the peace process. The consultations are an ongoing process to deepen the understanding between the NSCN and Naga civil society and to ensure that,

the NSCN embodies the fullest aspiration and rights of the Naga while negotiating with India. It is also the expressed will and desire of the Naga for their ancestral land to be united once more into ONE geo-political entityNagalim. Nagas live on their own land that belongs to them nothing less than that, nothing more than that! Nagas have lived in these territories from time immemorial. These are not claims but facts. The aspiration of the Nagas to live together is nothing unusual but natural. Nagas will certainly continue to live in their lands forever, but it is also a, historical fact that Nagalim has been kept divided arbitrarily by the British and the Indian State.

The Nagas, for the fullest realization of their identity and rights, therefore desire the unification of their land which is at the heart of their existence. It implies the desired will of the Nagas to have the freedom to decide the fate of their own destiny.

Revival at Wokha town

During the Lotha Baptist Churches Association revival meeting held in Wokha town, a huge pandal 300ft x 150ft with 10,000 seating capacity was constructed at public ground, Wokha town.

The programme started from April 21 and culminated on April 23 under the theme “Revive us O Lord” (Psalms 85:6).

During the revival it rained heavily which according to the ancestors, legends and history records indicates good fortune because during any festival or ceremony if it rained they believed that zenith fortune would come later and it is quite true.

Fortune will come to Lothas in particular and Nagas in general due to the revival at Wokha. Therefore we must earnestly pray to Almighty God, because word of God says, nothing is impossible with God, everything is possible with God. (Matthew 19:26) (Mark 10:27) (Luke 18:27). The word of God says, ask and it shall be given to you, seek and you and shall find, knock and it shall be opened unto you (Matthew 7:7-8). If you have faith and pray you say unto the mountain be removed and be cast into the sea, it shall be done and all things whatever you shall ask in prayer, believing you shall receive (Matthew 21:21-22). Jesus Christ said, I am the resurrection and life, who believes in me shall never die (John 11:25-26).

ICAR-NEH holds state level Training on ‘soil health management’ coordination committee meet

DIMAPUR: State level coordination committee meeting for doubling the Farmers’ income by March, 2022 was organised

by ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Nagaland Centre on April 26.

The meeting was organized with an objective to develop concrete action plan for doubling farmers’ income.

M.Premjit Singh in his inaugural speech stressed on scientific farming; diversification and intensification of rice fallows with pulses, oilseed, vegetables etc; promotion of location specific integrated farming system and organic farming, protected cultivation, speciality farming; improving the jhum land with agro forestry, high value spices and horticultural crops; post-harvest processing and management; improving the availability

of critical inputs like seeds, planting materials, piglets, chicks, fish seed, credits; development and adoption of rainwater harvesting and conservation for lean period. “Doubling farmer’s income would not be possible without improving the allied sectors of agriculture like livestock, poultry and fisheries” he added. He also emphasised on improvement of road, electricity and agriculture related infrastructure like market infrastructure, irrigation, cold storage, warehouses, processing units etc.

Training on oil palm cultivation at Baghty

DIMAPUR: Chang Tribal Council (CKS) 72nd general session inaugural programme was held on April 27 at Tuensang HQ with minister of RD and REPA C. L. John as chief guest.

The minister in his speech encouraged the Eastern Nagas to maintain the spirit of oneness among the tribes. He discouraged depending on easy money and urged people to remain self dependent by using all available resources especially in the field of promoting economic condition, growth and progress as well.

DIMAPUR: Department of Agriculture conducted farmers training on oil palm cultivation under NMOOP programme on April 21 at Ruchayan circle.

A.O Bahgty Wochumo speaking on oil palm cultivation stressed that palm oil was a widely used vegetable oil amounting to 65 percent of all vegetable oil and apprised the participants of its benefit and importance.

The programme was chaired by SDAO L. Mhao Lotha, who informed the participants that oil palm

New Delhi, Apr 29 (IANS): The government is closely monitoring around nine lakh registered companies that had stopped filing annual tax returns with the Corporate Affairs Ministry after their registration, Union Revenue Secretary Hasmukh Adhia said on Saturday.

“Out of 15 lakh registered companies, only six lakh are filing annual income tax returns. Eight to nine lakh companies stopped filing any returns after their registration and they have become a potential threat of money laundering,” he said in his address at the Enforcement Directorate Day here.

He also said that a task force set up by the Prime Minister Office is also monitoring these companies closely on a fortnight basis. “We have given notice to some of these companies considering them a big source of money laundering and are in close coordination with the task force set up by the PMO.” Adhia said that Rs 6,000 crore Bank of Baroda

Speaking at the Enforcement Day here, he called on the agency to “strictly” enforce law to help the exchequer raise legitimate revenue.

He felt that non-compliance of tax laws has always hit the larger public and national interest.

“And that is why the revenue department and the ED have a very important role to play,” he emphasised.

Shillong, April 29 (PTI): Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) Chief General Manager K K Saxena today said the company will set up 111 base towers in Meghalaya, Mizoram and Tripura to improve customers service and its reach in these states.

“We are adding 111 new Base Transceiver Stations (Towers) in our NE-1 circle comprising Meghalaya, Mizoram and Tripura,” Saxena who heads the circle told reporters here.

He said 56 of these towers will be in remote Meghalaya (existing 244), nine in Mizoram (existing 141) and 46 in Tripura (existing 386) which will add to 771 existing towers in these states as part of the phase 7 project costing Rs 50 crore.

According to the BSNL NE-1 circle chief, each of these towers is expected to cater to a population of 5000 people. The stateowned telecom operator, which caters to 14 per cent of the 1.24 crore customers in the region, saw a 1 per cent increase in its market share in the past one year, the official said.

BISHKEK, APR 29 (IANS): At least 24 persons were killed in a landslide that swept over a part of a village in southern Kyrgyzstan on Saturday, the Emergencies Ministry said.

The landslide struck the village of Ayu in the Osh region of the mountainous country at around 6:40 a.m. (local time), swallowing seven houses in the village and burying more than 20 people in six of the seven houses. The Emergencies Ministry said there were nine children among those buried alive, Xinhua news agency reported. Dozens of rescue workers were at the scene looking for survivors.

Kyrgyz President Almazbek Atambayev sent Emergencies Minister Kubatbek Boronov to the village to take charge of the rescue operation.

A rescue headquarters was also established in the village. Apart from over 180 rescuers, 100 Kyrgyz soldiers participated in the rescue operation.

Atambayev decreed to declare April 30 a day of mourning for those killed under the landslide, according to the press service of the President.

PARIS, APR 29 (IANS): French Front National (FN) presidential candidate Marine Le Pen announced on Saturday that she would appoint defeated first-round candidate Nicolas DupontAignan as her Prime Minister if she is elected President.

Le Pen, 48, spoke in Paris at a joint press conference with Dupont-Aignan, 56, leader of the Debout la France (Arise France) movement, the sixth most-voted political formation during the April 23 presidential first round, with 1.7 million votes.

At said press conference both leaders formalised a national pact whereby if Le Pen wins the May 7 elections, Dupont-Aignan will be appointed Le Pen’s Prime Minister.

Dupont-Aignan is a former member of the rightcentre party Les Republicains.

The ballistic missile launch occurred near the Pukchang airfield,” Dave Benham, United States Pacific Command spokesman, said in a statement. “The missile did not leave (the) North Korean territory,” Benham said.

Responding to the development, US President Donald Trump slammed North Korea for the provocative move.

According to sources with knowledge of the negotiations, the deal will pay Bialik and Rauch $500,000 per episode for 48 episodes.

The deals are believed to include a separate development component for both actors. A representative for Warner Bros.

Television declined to comment.

Saturday announced that it will open training centres in Guwahati and Aizawl in the next few days for providing best training facilities to the budding players at the club level. The purpose of setting up the JFI Training Centres is to identify young talented judo players between 13- 21 years, and train them under qualified coaches with modern training facilities.

JFI has already opened 10 training centres in various cities of India like Anantapur (Andhra Pradesh), Sonepat and Narnaul (Haryana), Jalandhar and Gurdaspur (Punjab), Haridwar (Uttarakhand), Imphal, Delhi and two in Kolkata.

The objective of the event was to bring men together in fellowship, said Rev. K. Benri Lotha, associate pastor of KLBC.

Expressing concern that many men were not inclined towards church, the associate pastor said that Men’s Fellowship has been initiating father’s camp in the previous year and conducts men’s prayer fellowship every fourth Saturday in respective sectors.

Kohima, Apr 29 (NPN): Naga fighter Imkong Jamir (27) emerged as the champion in feather weight category (62-66kg) of Amateur Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) tournament held at I.G. Indoor Stadium Meriema, Kohima. He defeated Shantanu

Pujari in the final match and walked home with belt and certificate.

The Amateur Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) tournament was organized by Wise Guy Entertainment in collaboration with Yoddha Fighting championship (YFC) and the department of youth resources

and sports, Government of Nagaland.

In Straw weight (below 52kg), Sunny Khatri won the title after defeating his opponent Aletto Nagi from Nagaland in the final match.

However, Khatri was not awarded the winning belt after his weight was found to be above the permitted limit

Penalty shootout tourney held

Dimapur, Apr 29 (NPN): Recognizing the potential of sports as a ministerial platform, the NCRC Sumi Church youth department, Padumpukhuri organized a one day penalty shootout tournament under the theme, “Forging unity through sports” on April 26.

Personalities-B in the final. The winning team was awarded a cash prize of Rs. 40,000 while the runner-up team received Rs.20,000.

Peisui Debe of YNP-B was adjudged the best goal keeper and was awarded a cash prize of Rs.3000. The tournament witnessed the participation of 39 teams, including three teams from Kohima.

The event was graced by social welfare depart-

ment deputy director, Atoli Sema as the chief guest. In her speech, the chief guest dwelt on the importance of sports as a means of not only maintaining good health but also as a platform for spreading the gospel.

She extolled the organiser for the timely conduct of the tournament at a time when many young people seldom play any sports due to excessive usage of technology and mobile phones.

In Fly weight, Navdeep Aggarwal bagged the title defeating Satya Behuria in the final bout while Manthan Rane lifted the bantam weight title after defeating strong opponent Basavesh in the final bout. In light weight category, Rudrash Azad beat Amung Konyak in final bout to claim the title while Suyash Jadhav defeated Victor Angami in the welter weight to lift the title.

All the winners received belt and certificate.

There was also exhibition matches by professional MMA fighters on Saturday.

The two-day event featured 54 fighters with a fight card of 27 amateur fighters from all over the country.

Jitendra Vicky Khare from Mumbai and Khriemelie Metha are the amateur mixed martial art tournament head coach and main coach respectively.

The tournament showcases MMA fighters and their teams from across the country and is one of the most exciting sporting events.

Throttle Thrust 2 on May 2 and 3 Dimapur, Apr 29 (NPN): Throttle Thrust 2, a motorsport event, organised by Spearhead Motorsport Initiative (SMI), Mokokchung will be held on May 2 and 3 at Longrangdang, Longmisa village, Mokokchung.

The event will have three categories of competition – Cross country 4x4 (SUV), Sprint (Below 1300cc, above 1300cc), and Autocross (Below 1300 cc, Above 1300c, SUV).

Rio to grace mega sports festival in Dimapur Dimapur, Apr 29 (NPN): Dimapur will host the mega sports festival ‘Victor 1st North-East Masters (Veteran) Badminton Championship’ from May 4-6 at Badminton Indoor stadium, United colony, Dimapur.

The three –day event hosted by Dimapur District Badminton Association (DDBA) under the banner of Nagaland Badminton Association, will be inaugurated by former chief minister and Nagaland Lok Sabha, MP, Neiphiu Rio at 9:00 am. The event will feature stalls ranging from food, art, holiday and leisure packages and sports. There will also be live performance by DGP band, DDBA band, Renbeni Odyuo and Sinya Kath and stand up comedian Hopong Phom every evening.

Another excitement of the tournament will be the special appearance of Arjuna awardee and international badminton player Ashwini Ponnappa- the brand ambassador of Victor on the closing day.

More than 100 shuttlers from the north eastern states including Nagaland had confirmed their participation. The total prize money of Rs.2.66 lakhs for the event is being sponsored

by Victor along with gift hampers.

Yitachu kicks off LSU martyrs trophy

Yitachu kicking off the 18th LSU Martyrs trophy at Wokha on Saturday.

K O H IMA , APR 2 9 (NPN): The 18th Lotha Students Union (LSU) Martyrs Trophy kicked started Saturday at the local ground, Wokha with minister school education and SCERT Yitachu as the chief guest.

Addressing on the occasion, the minister advised the students not to neglect their studies while they participate in the games and sports. “At the end of the day it is education that make a person complete,” he reminded.

The minister further expressed concern over the dropout rate in the state

and said, unless the situation (dropout) was taken care of, the future looks dark and would become the most challenging task among the Naga people.

He encouraged the students to get the best education with determination so that they would be able to take resolute decision of their own. earlier, the minister also visited Government Higher Secondary School, Wokha and interacted with the principal and the faculty members.

After inspecting the school infrastructure which was in a deplorable

condition, the minister assured that he would look into the renovation of the school.

Students from all the schools in Wokha town attended the opening function extending solidarity to the two slain youths who lost their lives during a silent protest on April 14, 1977.

Pune dash RCB’s hopes of play-offs Pune, Apr 29 (PTI): Formidable Royal Challengers Bangalore led by India captain Virat Kohli became first team to be thrown out of contention for play-offs after a humiliating 61-run defeat against Rising Pune Supergiant in an IPL encounter, here Saturday.

Although the RCB bowlers managed to keep the Pune batsmen under a tight leash restricting them to 157 for three but another shoddy batting performance saw them finish at a dismal 96 for 9 after 20 overs.

While Pune kept themselves in contention with their fifth win in nine games, RCB are practically out of the tournament with their seventh defeat in 10 games and only five points in their kitty. Pune bowlers rose to the occasion defending a sub-par total with a controlled bowling performance.

Imran Tahir was the pick of the bowlers with figures of

3/18 from four overs, while Lockie Ferguson claimed 2/7 in four overs to claim the Man of the match award.

Jaydev Unadkat, Daniel Christian and Washington Sundar took one wicket each.

Chasing a modest 158, Bangalore just kept losing wickets despite skipper Kohli holding his ground at one end. Apart from Kohli, who came up with an uncharacteristic 48ball-55, studded with four boundaries and a six, none of the other RCB batsmen could reach the double-digit mark.

Khanakhurü Students’ Union lift 5th Frolic Cup

Dimapur, Apr 29 (NPN): Khanakhurü Students’ Union (KSU) was Saturday crowned the champions of 5th Frolic Cup while Kuki Youth Club belted the runners up title.

It was a battle of old foes as the two teams clashed once more in a tightened ring.

The two teams had met thrice in earlier editions of the tournament although the encounters were not in the final.

The vibrant rush of adrenalin was all the more

visible as thousands dared themselves to witness the heated finals under a dry, soaring mercury at local ground, Medziphema.

Once the much anticipated match was whistled in, roars of support rendered the air and players of both KSU and KYC’B’ sprinted into the game to find opportunities through gaps. KSU immediately gained more control with their experience and amid tackles and attempts from both sides, KSU finally

broke the deadlock from the boots of Rhitso towards the dying minutes of the first half.

In the second half, it was a spirited KYC ‘B’ who jolted their opponents with surprise play and began to completely dominate the match. KYC’s innumerable exposure accentuated by exceptional talents aided them like never before as they skillfully drifted into the closer yards of KSU on a number of occasions.

Apart from corners and free

kicks, which were abundant, both sides exerted pressure on one another to create difference in goals but as fate would have it, KSU could not find the net despite the many shots within close range.

It was an all out game for a relentless KSU who countered and thwarted every move of their opponents until the final whistle was blown. At the end of a full play time, KSU had emerged victorious from the lone goal of the final

match to be the champions while KYCB had to be contended as the runner-up.

The champions received the coveted Frolic Cup with cash reward of Rs. 60,000 and certificates while the runners up received Rs. 30,000 with certificates.

In individual category, Ninja of Khanakhurü Students’ Union was named the best midfielder, Temjenwati of Molvom Youth and Students’ Union was adjudged the best defender while Alemse of Kuki Youth Club was awarded the golden glove. Shürhuosül of Medziphema Village Youth Organisation was awarded the golden boot while Nyithung of Kuki Youth Club was named the player of the tournament.

The prizes were handed over to winners by SDO (C) Medziphema, Mangpai Phom. Earlier, the chief guest, Kesonyü Yhome, DC, Dimapur lauded the tireless efforts of Frolic Club, Medziphema for bringing in everyone together on a common platform. In his brief speech, he also encouraged all the players to maintain sporting spirit and discipline in order to excel in sports.
