E-roll management database to be launched on Aug 30

D I M A P U R , AU G 2 8 (NPN): Nagaland chief electoral officer (CEO), Abhijit Sinha has informed that the electoral-roll management data base/software, called ‘ERONET, on Unified National Photo Roll database which integrates the e-roll at the national level would be launched in Nagaland on August 30. Election Commission has already launched ERONET is some states.

ERONET is envisioned keeping in mind the mandate of the ECI, that no voter would be left behind irrespective of his language or physical ability. The system strives to make an applicant’s entry in the e-roll unambiguous and error free without much of a hassle.

The inclusion, modification, deletion or transposition in the e-roll would be done by filling and submitting electoral roll forms online through the National Voter’s Service Portal (NVSP) http://nvsp.in, which shall be processed in the ERONET. Meanwhile, CEO has also informed that the offline forms submitted physical to the ERO/ AERO/ BLO of his/her Assembly Constituency/polling station would be digitized, uploaded and processed in the ERONET.

RO H TA K , AU G 2 8 (AGENCIES): A special CBI court on Monday sentenced Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh to 20 years in jail for rape of his two followers, holding he acted like a “wild beast” who did not even spare his own “pious” female disciples.

The court also said that Ram Rahim, 50, committed breach of gravest nature by sexually assaulting “such gullible and blind followers” and that he did not deserve any leniency.

Judge Jagdeep Singh in his 9-page order pronounced two sentences of 10 years rigorous imprisonment in each of the two rapes that date back to 2002.

Defence lawyer S K Garg Narwana told reporters that both the sentences will run “consecutively” for a total of 20 years in jail for the dera chief, who has millions of followers and counts politicians as well as celebrities as his friends. try has shown a remarkable growth and success not only in the state but also at then national level. So to ensure continued rise of the upcoming and talented women there is need to plan a comprehensive support programmes that target female-owned enterprises.

There is also need to ensure that policies for femaleowned enterprises target not only start-ups and small enterprises, but encourage and support the growth ambitions of all existing firms and also ensure equal access to finance for male and female entrepreneurs.

On the education front , younger women are increasingly better educated than young men. From the below graph, it is encouraging to see the female literacy rate in Nagaland has seen a 22% growth in the past two decade as compared to 16% growth in male literacy rate.

Desperate attempt by NPF Rio expresses dismay 2 die, 6 injured in Bhandari mishap P&IC to save their skin: ACAUT DIMAPUR, AUG 28 (NPN): Reacting to the statement made

DIMAPUR, AUG 28 (NPN): Lok Sabha MP and NPF president, Neiphiu Rio has expressed utter dismay over the “provocative” news report-- “ACAUT has hidden political agenda: NPF (Rio)”, published in a section of the local dailies, saying the headline had “sent a wrong message to the people.”

Rio reaffirmed his personal stand and the NPF party’s stand as stated in the manifesto that the government would provide transparency and accountability in its governance to deliver the goods to the people as they deserve.

“I do not support corruption in any manner nor am I here to protect corruption and therefore, I would request the chief minister and the DAN government to listen to the voice of the people and ensure that such problems do not plague the government,” Rio stated.

He further went on to point out that the excess appointments in various departments over the years and other government decisions and actions “were in response to public pressure and demand.” Therefore, Rio said everyone one would have to put their heads together “to arrest this problem which has landed us in a vicious circle.”

Rio hoped that good sense prevails and that all sections of the people and the government join hands to address these problems. He also appealed to the media to ensure that wrong messages were not disseminated to the masses particularly on issues that were sensitive in nature.

State-wide mega mock exercise on Aug 30 D I M A P U R , AU G 2 8 (NPN): Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA), Home Department has informed that a Nagaland Emergency Preparedness Exercise (NEPEx) consisting of a mega mock exercise would be conducted all over the state on August 30, 2017.

In a communiqué, the NSDMA has requested the public not to panic but to cooperate with the authorities for smooth conduct of the mock exercise. It stated that such drills/exercise have proven to be most useful as they increased awareness as well as equipped the citizens to respond appropriately during times of actual disasters.

Earthquake rumors debunked

umor mongers have taken to social media by circulating messages that “a huge earthquake with a magnitude around 8.5 is predicted to happen in Nagaland on August 29 or 30.” The message further goes on to spread panic by saying that “people have already started buliding relief camps in Dimapur.”

Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority has dismissed such rumours, being circulated on various social media platforms and appeaeld to the public not to pay heed to such rumours but stay vigilant What many do not know is that there is no scientifically plausible way of predicting the occurrence of a particular earthquake. The USGS can and does make statements about earthquake rates, describing the places most likely to produce earthquakes in the long term.

It is important to note that prediction, as people expect it, requires predicting the magnitude, timing, and location of future earthquake, which is not currently possible. The USGS and other science organizations are working to better understand earthquakes in the hope of eventually being able to predict the size, location and time that an earthquake will happen. The USGS does produce aftershock forecasts that give the probability and expected number of aftershocks in the region following large earthquakes.

As Charles Richter, inventor of the Richter Scale, famously said-- “Only fools, liars and charlatans predict earthquakes.”

WO K H A , AU G 2 8 (NPN): Two persons succumbed to injuries when a Tata Sumo taxi rolled down some 300 feet below the road near the Bhandari Town Police check gate Monday afternoon.

According to police, six other passengers including the driver were also injured in the accident. Three of them were stated to be in serious condition.

According to Bhandari police, the deceased were identified as Renjamo Odyuo (80+) from Serika village under Wokha district and Ganesh Giri (25) from Chandrapur, Golaghat district, Assam. They succumbed to their injuries at the CHC Bhandari.

RTO revises auto fares D I M A P U R , AU G 2 8 (NPN): In supersession of the earlier order and in the interest of public service, the Regional Transport Authority (RTO) Dimapur has revised the fares for autorickshaws within the Dimapur city with effect from September 1, 2017.

In an order, DC and RTO Dimapur chairman, Kesonyu Yhome, stated that autorickshaw fare for town trip was fixed at Rs.40. RTO has also fixed autorickshaw fares for different parking lot. (See fare chart on p-7) Meanwhile, all autorickshaws have been directed to possess a copy of the new chart along with the vehicle documents for the convenience of the public.

RTO has also informed the passengers/commuters to insist on the fare chart before paying the fare. Defaulters would be strictly dealt with as per MV Act, RTO said.

Justice Dipak Misra is new CJI

Justice Dipak Misra NEW DELHI, AUG 28 (PTI): Justice Dipak Misra, who was part of the bench that confirmed the death sentence of the four convicts in the December 16 gangrape case and passed the order for mandatory singing of the national anthem in cinema halls, was today sworn in as the 45th Chief Justice of India.

At a brief ceremony in the Darbar Hall of Rashtrapati Bhawan, President Ramnath Kovind administered the oath of office to Misra. Justice Misra, 64, assumes office following the retirement of Justice J S

Khehar on Sunday. Justice Misra will remain in office till October 2, 2018.

He was the chief justice of the Patna High Court and the Delhi high court before being elevated to the apex court in October 2011.

Justice Misra is currently presiding over a bench hearing the Cauvery and Krishna river water disputes, BCCI reforms and Sahara case among others. He headed the bench that passed the order for mandatory singing of the national anthem in cinema halls across the country. He was also part of the bench that upheld the death sentence given to the convicts in the December 16, 2012 gangrape case.

Justice Misra, along with Justice P C Pant, had in May, declined to de-criminalise defamation— an offence punishable with two years in jail apart from fine — saying the right to free speech cannot mean that a citizen can defame anybody.

She also held that all should not depend on government jobs but try to be venture out on their own with the knowledge gained from training programmes imparted by KVK and other

Wabang Ao informed that electrical contractor license holders were in the habit of leasing out or allowed to use their license by unauthorized persons for the purpose of carrying installation works, which was a serious violation of terms and conditions of issue of contractor’s license under Nagaland Electrical Licensing Regulations 2005 Article (9). CEI warned that if any violation was detected by any registered electrical contractors, such electrical contractors’ license will be cancelled. It

Kikon said the current dissident members were there during the 1998 election as congress MLAs. “The ring leaders of this Hotel legacy group was there, the so called interim president and the chief minister, all these members were a part of the 1998 election defying the call of the Naga people,” he said.

Due to non-participation in the election, Kikon said the NPF sacrificed its party symbol, which was frozen by ECI. But in 1999 MP election, he said Dr. Shürhozelie again resigned from the party and contested in the MP election as independent to retain the party symbol.

Further, the spokesperson said that when the publication of “Bed Rock of Naga Society” boomeranged the Congress party, Rio and his group “who were trying to save their soul” joined the cock party.

He said it was Dr. Shürhozelie and his party that protected the party and gave leadership when Rio and Zeliang were politically lost.

Kikon said they should be courageous enough to acknowledge how they were saved, promoted their political career and gave opportunity to occupy the highest office.

Questioned on what moral ground the dissidents were charging the party president or the office, he said there was no logic in it.

Describing the current situation as “a small party hiccup”, Kikon expressed confidence the party would sail through no matter how hard the storm was.

On the charges that Dr. Shürhozelie ran away

from the floor test on July 19 last, Kikon reiterated that since no one moved “no confidence motion”, the governor had no basis to summon assembly within 10 hours.

He said when any minister or head of the state was asked to step down, it was either because of corruption or immorality or other mischievous things committed. However, he said in the case of Dr. Shürhozelie he decided to check all source of corruption and that was when majority of the MLAs deserted him.

NPF vice president, Pusazo Luro, claimed that dissident members were in congress and joined NPF in 2002. He said for many years NPF were in opposition, but Dr. Shürhozelie nurtured the party. In this regard, he asked “how can his sacrifice be termed as wrong leader”.

NPF vice president, Zaku Tsükru, said Rio and Zeliang must have been in high school when Dr. Shürhozelie became MLA in 1969 and asked “how could they challenge Dr. Shürhozelie was not the founding member of the party”.

He also accused Rio and Zeliang of turning NPF party into “money oriented political party, created confusion with the objective of the party and turned it to power and wealth oriented party.”

He said Rio and Zeliang have accommodated all kinds of people like the former bureaucrats, doctors and engineers who actually do not have basic idea of politics.

Tsükru said being expelled and suspended they had no right to claim NPF as their party.

Correspondent KO H I M A , AU G 2 8 (NPN): Land Resource Department (LRD) organized State level watershed conference in culmination of PMKSY-WDC Batch II at Capital Convention Centre, Kohima Monday.

Reading out the address of the chief minister T.R Zeliang in his absentia, minister Roads & Bridges, Dr. Neikiesalie Kire said inspite of Nagaland being an agrarian state with over 70% population engaged in agriculture, food production was grossly inadequate and state has to depend on the import of food grains, both cereals and pulses from other states.

He pointed out the

main reason for low productivity was the reluctance to use scientific technologies and farm mechanization. Kire said it was a big challenge for the department to continue with the good work in uplifting the less privileged people in the rural areas of the state and expressed confidence that the department would strive harder to bring desired results in implementing the central schemes like PMKSY in the state in near future. The minister also informed that in order to encourage farmers to take up cultivation and for other source of income generation, PMKSY has introduced plantation crops like medicinal and aromatic plants as alternative farm-

ing in the state.

He congratulated the LRD for organising the mega event to showcase the achievements made by the department in collaboration with self help groups and livelihood groups in implementing the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana (PMKSY), the erstwhile Integrated Watershed Management Programme (IWMP) in the state. Kire said PMKSY has addressed the issue to certain extend with the introduction of plantation crops such as rubber, cardamom, tea, coffee etc.

a few villages under district health society (DHS) Mokokchung on August 26.

The villages included

Longkhum, Mangmetong, Sabangya, Chungtia, Aliba , Kinunger, Khensa, Mekuli and Alichen.

A total of 827 patients

were given free medical check- ups and necessary medicines.

Besides, IEC leaflets on different health aspects were distributed and health advices were given bringing more health awareness.

All the designated doctors, nurses and different health personnel took active participation in carrying out the different activities. Dr Sentikumba Imchen, Dr Vehuto Puro from Naga Hospital Kohima and Dr Khezo Tetseo from Mon also extended their help in the camp. Dr Kibangkumba Dy.CMO Mokokchung supervised and co- ordinated the health teams in different villages.

Promoting national entrepreneurship award

Parliamentary secretary, Land Resources and Excise, B.S. Nganlang said the availability of land resources with no excessive control over the land and its resource could benefit the Nagas if the potentials were harnessed with dedicated minds.

He urged to make the best use of the available resources and make a self-sufficient state and also congratulated the department for successfully implementing the various schemes and appealed to continue the good works they have been doing.

C h i e f s e c r e t a r y, Pankaj Kumar spoke on diversification of crops and to develop resilient agriculture in line with the holistic approach of the department, to reduce the risk involved and also in-line with the market demand.

He also mentioned about the development of springshed water management projects to solve the water

scarcity in the state especially during winter season. On the occasion, CS assured to work out plans for the future career of the employees working under IWMP on fixed pay. Director, Land Resources, Hoto Yeptho and DPO, Kohima Dr. Menuosietuo Tseikha presented the overview of the Nagaland watershed and overview of Kohima watershed (PMKSY BatchII) respectively.

Representative from Rumensinyu village of Kohima District Watershed Community chair man and chairman, Watershed Committee, Yongam Village spoke on behalf of the village, highlighted the achievement and success story with the implementation of the scheme.

The second batch–II of the project sanctioned during 2010-11 has a project culminated by covering an area of 0.83 lakh hectare at total cost of Rs. 124.62 crores.

The programme was chaired by secretary, Land Resources, Y. Kikheto Sema, while Rev. Belho invoked God’s blessing.

Earlier the chief guest also released the LRD communiqué a special edition while the chief secretary inaugurated the exhibition stall setup by the SHGs and livelihood groups.

DIMAPUR: 7 Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (North) organised an awareness campaign on HIV/AIDS and importance of wildlife conservation at Agape School, Kiphire on August 26. According to PRO, HQ IGAR (North) report, a lecture on HIV/ AIDS, its repercussions on society and individuals and preventive measures was conducted. Youths were also educated on conservation of wildlife species of migratory bird Amur Falcon for maintenance of diverse eco system. Leaflets were also distributed to the locals of Kiphire town. A total of 60 students participated in the campaign.

IMPHAL, Aug 28: The All Manipur Students’ Union (AMSU), the oldest students body of Manipur, Monday resolved to involve/participate in every issue concerning the state.

Since its inception in 1965, the union has been working to safeguard “Manipuri nation,” said vice president Laishram Peter during its 52nd foundation day celebration.

He said that the student body would continue to take active role in demanding a law to protect the indigenous people of the state, to safeguard the territorial integrity of the state, to repeal of draconian law like Armed Forces Special Power Act (AFSPA) as well as other issues plaguing the state.

India, China to pull back troops from Doklam border confrontation

NEW DELHI, AUG 28 (AGENCIES): India and China have agreed to pull back their troops from a face-off in the high Himalayas where China, India and Bhutan meet, signalling a thaw in the monthslong standoff, India’s government said Monday.

India’s Ministry of External Affairs said India and China had diplomatic exchanges in recent weeks over the situation on Doklam plateau in the eastern Himalayas and both had agreed to “go back to the status quo” before the standoff.

Both India and China said their troops would continue to patrol in the Doklam area as they did before the face-off.

The breakthrough comes just days before Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is to travel to China for a meeting of BRICS leaders next month. The BRICS grouping comprises Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.

In Beijing, foreign ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying told reporters that Chinese forces in the area had verified the Indian pullout and that China will “continue to exercise its sovereignty and uphold its territorial integrity in accordance with the historical conventions.”

Doklam standoff ends as both India and China agree to disengagement of troops.

Hua said Chinese border troops were continuing to patrol in the area, but made no mention of their road-building activities that had prompted India to send its forces across the border nearly three months ago.

An official of the Indian ministry said his country also planned to verify “in due course of time that Chinese troops have also moved back.”

“Both sides have acted maturely and have agreed to go back to the status quo,” said the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the media.

Analysts hailed the troop pullback, but said after the acrimony of the past months, ties between the neighbors could not be the same.

“Both sides realized that this was not an issue on which they needed to have some kind of a shooting match which would completely destroy relations between the two countries,” said Sushant Sareen, a senior fellow at the Vivekanand International Foundation, a New Delhi-based think tank.

Sareen said the danger of an accidental exchange of fire had been diffused, but “Does this mean that

all is hunky dory between India and China? Certainly not.”

The confrontation, which began in June when Indian troops moved in to stop China from constructing a road in the Doklam region in Bhutan, was the worst in decades. India had insisted that the impasse would be resolved through diplomatic talks, while China demanded that India withdraw its troops from Doklam before any talks could take place.

Doklam is claimed by the tiny kingdom of Bhutan, but Beijing says it belongs to China based on an 1890 Chinese-British treaty. Bhutan and China have held several rounds of border talks but have not made progress in resolving the dispute.

The area, also popularly referred to by Indians as the “chicken neck,” is a narrow corridor that links mainland India with its remote northeastern states.

New Delhi’s concerns about the Chinese presence in Doklam stemmed from fears that if China was able to block the corridor, it would isolate India’s northeast from the rest of the country.

Relations between the two Asian giants have often been strained, partly due to an undemarcated border.

Women’s panel sees steady rise in pending cases Mumbai, Aug 28 (PTI) The number of cases pending with the Maharashtra State Commission for Women (MSCW) has been increasing over the years and there has also been a steady rise in the count of complaints related to harassment of women at workplace received by the panel, an RTI reply has revealed.

According to the reply obtained by city-based RTI activist Jeetendra Ghadge, 2,917 cases were pending before the commission in 2012 which shot up to 3,573 in 2013, 5,092 in 2014 and 5,929 in 2015.

The reply also revealed the women’s right panel had received only 40 complaints of sexual harassment at workplaces in 2012-13, which subsequently rose to 262 in 2013-14, dropped to 91 in 2014-15 and again shot up to 102 in 2015-16, he said. Ghadge had filed an application before the MSCW seeking to know the number and nature of cases pending before it.

The commission has data only till 2015. The activist said the commission does not have data about the number of cases forwarded to police stations for further investigations.

“I also sought the number of cases which were forwarded to police stations for investigations. However, the commission said it does not maintain such records.”

Kirti Kumari Jaipur, Aug 28 (PTI): BJP MLA from Mandalgarh in Rajasthan’s Bhilwara district, Kirti Kumari, today died of swine flu at a private hospital in the city.

The 50-year-old was admitted to Fortis Hospital yesterday from the state-run SMS Hospital following complication in breathing due to swine flu, Medical Superintendent of Fortis Hospital, Dr Shrikant Swami said. She breathed her last this morning, he said.

Kumari was later cremated in Bijolia in Bhilwara district. Before her funeral, Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje, state BJP President Ashok Parnami, ministers in the state government and BJP office bearers paid obeisance.

Raje condoled her death, saying it was an irreparable loss for the BJP. Kumari, who belonged to the royal Bijolia family, held various positions in committees of Rajasthan Assembly and within the organisation. As the news of her demise spread, a pall of gloom descended on Mandalgarh and among party ranks. Meanwhile, the SMS Hospital administration denied the allegations of it failing to provide proper medical facilities to the swine flu afflicted BJP MLA, saying a team of three senior professors was formed to provide medical care and specialists from a Gurgaonbased private hospital were also consulted. Medical Superintendent of the SMS Hospital, Dr D S Meena said that Kumari was brought to the hospital in critical condition on August 26. She was put on ventilator in medical ICU ward, he added. Meena said that on the request of her family, specialists from Gurgaon-based Medanta Hospital were consulted who advised using Ecmo machine on the patient.

usiness has been hit by the very act that was supposed to promote it- GST – goods and services tax. One aim of a tax is to facilitate exports. Under the GST, exporters will have to first pay the required duty and seek a refund. According to estimates, exporters’ working capital of up to Rs 1.85 lakh crore annually could get stuck because of the refund process. There is confusion and escalation of prices of many goods. Industries have been hit since they were asked to clear their stocks by July. Many manufacturers stopped production. Industry has said that GST as hit the growth. Nine months ago, the businesses and manufacturers took a hit due to demonetization. This caused sudden choking of cash flow which adversely affected sales and transactions. GST is a good idea but it is being levied at the highest tax rates. There is not one tax but five tax rates, some in zero percent, the rest in slabs of 5, 12, 18 and 28 percent. It has added to the confusion at all levels because there are items like SUVs which drew a tax of 28 percent but reduced to initially of 15 percent, now proposed to be revised and raised to 25 percent. The automobile industry is a fledgling industry. Would it survive after paying 53 percent as taxes? It has to be affordable to help both the consumers and the industry. The way it is working is certainly against the interest of both.

The small businesses are the worst hit. So far they were paying minimal taxes under the VAT regime. But now it varies. The exemption limit is too low at Rs 20 lakh turnover a year. It does not mean they would not have to pay the tax, it only means they would not have to maintain the complex account books. The cost of keeping the book itself is not that light. Many small and petty trades find that they would have to employ chartered accountants to maintain books. This means an additional cost. The apprehension is there as the rising cost of doing business has hit many smaller units, like groceries and restaurants. Restaurants are the worst sufferers and so are their patron customers. Almost every restaurant or even a dhaba is air conditioned.

So they have no option but to pay 18 percent as tax. It has increased the cost of food items.

A cup of tea, for example, that used to cost Rs 10, with taxes, at a dhaba now costs Rs 12. If it does not have an air conditioner, the tax is 5 percent. There is confusion about takeaways. In this country, restaurants suffer the largest closures. Are we trying to help an entrepreneurship or killing it? The readymade garment industry is facing similar problems. A “branded” shirt or sari becomes super expensive with the levy of high GST. So is “branded” rice, wheat or spices. The housing sector is in confusion as it does not know when to levy it or not. One wonders why petrol is out of it and why its price rises every day. The taxes must not be killers of initiative. The GST process is complex, arbitrary and cumbersome.

The good part is GST Council has said that it was open to ideas. One hopes it is really so and it becomes a benevolent and not atrocious taxing methodology leading an inspector-raj.

We hear it said that a person’s life will suffer if he doesn’t pray, but I question that. What will suffer is the life of the Son of God in him, which is nourished not by food, but by prayer. When a person is born again from above, the life of the Son of God is born in him, and he can either starve or nourish that life. Prayer is the way that the life of God in us is nourished. Our common ideas regarding prayer are not found in the New Testament. We look upon prayer simply as a means of getting things for ourselves, but the biblical purpose of prayer is that we may get to know God Himself.

“Ask, and you will receive…” (John 16:24). We complain before God, and sometimes we are apologetic or indifferent to Him, but we actuallyask Him for very few things. Yet a child exhibits a magnificent boldness to ask!

Our Lord said, “…unless you…become as little children…”

(Matthew 18:3). Ask and God will do. Give Jesus Christ the opportunity and the room to work. The problem is that no one will ever do this until he is at his wits’ end. When a person is at his wits’ end, it no longer seems to be a cowardly thing to pray; in fact, it is the only way he can get in touch with the truth and the reality of God Himself. Be yourself before God and present Him with your problems— the very things that have brought you to your wits’ end. But as long as you think you are self-sufficient, you do not need to ask God for anything.

To say that “prayer changes things” is not as close to the truth as saying, “Prayer changes me and then I change things.” God has established things so that prayer, on the basis of redemption, changes the way a person looks at things. Prayer is not a matter of changing things externally, but one of working miracles in a person’s inner nature.

n the last two weeks, my team at People for Animals has been examining all the religious sites on the Net to see what kind of nonsense is being put on in the name of Hinduism.

Ever since I learnt about the Hathajodi “magic Talisman”, which is just the penis of the giant monitor lizard, being sold by sites that claim it brings health, wealth and attraction, we have been looking for more rubbish being sold.

Siyar Singhi is supposedly the horn of a jackal.

For one thing, the jackal is protected from killing by the Wildlife Protection Act 1972. For another, the jackal does not have a horn. The sites selling this agree that it “normally” does not have a horn. But when it “hoots” (they probably mean howls) with its head facing downwards (a technical impossibility) then suddenly a horn emerges from its forehead.

If the jackal is killed and the horn is taken with a tuft of hair on it, the hair will keep growing forever and in different colours as long as it is kept in vermillion powder.

It supposedly keeps

away evil spirits – if you do regular havans round it for which, of course, you have to get havan priests and spend a lot more. Otherwise it doesn’t work (of course, then it is your fault).

This nonsense about the Siyar Singhi doesn’t just extend to Hindus. It seems to be all pervasive in Muslims and Buddhists as well. In Srilanka some illiterates use it (its called narric – combo) as an amulet to win in gambling. The Tharu tribes of Nepal and India believe it will grant the men the ability to see in the dark and seduce women. In Bengal it is placed in safes (as is the hathjodi) to increase wealth.

However, since this can only be done if a puja is done before the safe, the gang that passes off as priests usually take the opportunity to rob it later. Some sites have gone even further and said that the Bible has written that the jackal is the mother of the Devil and so keeping the horn of the mother will ensure that the devil stays away.

owners arrested, this bone of a scavenger considered unclean by most of the shastras will now bring wealth, win law cases, help you get on with your married partner, restore health, acquire property, remove depression. If “activated” (this means a set of expensive poojas running into lakhs) it will cure autism, mental diseases, Panic Disorders, Attention-deficit or hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), Autism spectrum disorder (ASD), Eating disorders, Schizophrenia, Substance abuse etc.

You, of course, have to recite mantras that vary from site to site – and religion to religion - Mumkaraya Kuru Namah, Om Padma Shrim, Om Hariram Purva Dakshin Uttar Paschim, Adhik taral padarth sabhi janya agyakari kuru kuru

Clean election: A complicated task

he initiation of clean election campaign by churches organizations, political parties and NGOs to prevent filthy practice of sale and purchase of votes is a good beginning.

The intention is a goodwill mission to reform ill electoral practice in Nagaland.

Launching andfighting for clean elections indicates that there has been prolong practice of dirty elections which is cheap and dirty form of politics. Dirty elections are prevalent because our social set-ups are corrupt. Corruption penetrated the political and electoral system and entered the entire social systems. Dirty election is a part of dirty politics. Politics means practical politics which is associated with the governance and development of a country. Ours is a democratic politics in which power is derived from the people and the ultimate power rests with them. Democracy was born out of the demand for liberty, equality and justice for the people.

However, unfortunately, these democratic principles have been exploited. It is said that politics is a dirty game. However, politics itself is not dirty but the people have dirtied it. Dirty elections or selling and buying votes, use of money power, use of muscle power, rigging and manipulation of polling boothduring elections is one of the many social evils in practice.This has led to commercialization of elections and gross corruption.

People are indulged in corruption or unfair means in daily life in public offices, business establishments, market places, religious places, NGOs, educational institutions and the likes. We have political corruption, bureaucratic corruption, technocratic corruption, departmental corruption, social corruption, commercial corruption and so on.People are compelled to pay even to obtain signature and exorbitant price for application form in the government offices. Money is collected at check posts.Taxes are being levied everywhere. Students are compelled to pay exorbitant fees for education and hostels.Thus there is no need to feelastonished to see welfare politics vanishing from this democratic system of government.Great men in power have excavated everything possible and left the people at their own risk.

Criminalization of politics is the worst form of filthy politics which has murdered democracy in India. Politics and crimes have operated together. The

undue nexus between politicians and bureaucrats and acceptance of admission of criminals into the political system for power and proper control ofgovernment affairs has led to weakening of governing machinery and severe exploitation of vulnerable.Involvement of anti-socials and use of money and muscle power in the elections originated from mega cities and spread to Nagaland and gradually and negatively transformed the electoral pattern in the Naga society diversified with tribalism. Corruption was not known during the fragilestage of Nagaland statehood. Corruption is now an epidemic disease that has infested the Naga society deep down the roots.

Corruption is a social evil infected frompolitics and the runners of government.

Some elite predecessors had instead of establishing the Naga society based on moral values, social ethos and Christian principles chosen the path of exemplary corruption. These days everyone is running after easy money and backdoor opportunities.Nagas have failed to cultivate the dignity of labor because the seed of corruption has scattered and sprouted in every domain of their life.The successful politicians and public or government servants have robbed off everything from the people and everything that is theirs and have not spared them even a piece of bone. But arestill not satisfied and want to grab more and more.They have turned blind and deaf towards grievances of farmers, patients, unemployed, villagers, farmers, travellers, poor, vulnerable, students and old people. The groaning voice of these people must have reached the Almighty God and He must be angry on them fortheir callous attitude.They have sown the seed of systematic corruption in Nagaland.Some manage to hold positions in various organizationsand mismanage the affairs after retirement.

It is unfortunate that persons with money power are opted for number one posts even in social organizations while honest and capable persons are sidelined and denied. Money power has destroyed everything in Nagaland. However, it would be better to elect selfless, capable and visionary persons and not money power to lead the society at various levels as better social change is impossible without them.

There is no inner democracy in most of the Naga social set-ups like unions, councils,hohos, associations and committees.Since the control of organizations is determined by money power, capable persons without money power are not the first preference. The source of money power is corruption. This is the reason why many lowly learnt persons have occupied the highest positions failing to provide minimum quality service but creating maximum confusion and rampant corruption in the society. Some intend to run organizations by using more capable persons as secretaries.This is how money power is manipulating the society. This chaos has led to sarcasm in the society wherefacts are twisted inventingright is wrong andwrong is right situation. In some cases the errant has more supporters and the innocent is sarcastically defeated and so the just is silenced.This is how the erroneous people take the upper hand.Nagas have sufficient number of intellectuals who do not intend or ask to hold or chase any position in any social organization. That means most of the organizations are not run by intellectuals or proper intellectuals but by ignorant, power thirsty and corrupt minded. All the organizations have good aims and objects or objectives to promote the welfare of the targeted and needy people.

Organizational power is also misused for suppression. It appears that most of the promoters want power, fame and money and use the good names of the organizations to fulfill their greed but are not serious to serve and achieve the laid down objectives. While passing through this juncture of chaos and confusion,intellectuals need to support each other and take the opportunity to set things right in the sicksociety if they really think that they have the desire and vision for the people.

There are thousands of Christian denominations and every church or church organization has its own way of propagating faith. So which denomination shall we follow? We shall follow the Church or the Bible?

All the Christians including Church leaders and workers better properly follow the New Testament Bible, the realpreacher for all. The teaching, preaching, instructions, commandments and guidance provided for mankind in it are perfect.

There should be integrity in preaching, teaching, speak-

ing, conducting, writing and practice in a person if he/she is a true Christian preacher.If a preacher does not have this integrity, then he cannot be a true Christian preacher. Christians should not be neutral between the just and wrong or good and bad. But openly speak out the truth and favor the right and good or disfavor the wrongand bad so that evil is defeated. Jesus Christ was straightforward and he always spoke the truth and against the bad and evils of the world.Lukewarm church prevails everywhereand is not ready for repentance and commits injustice to its members and Christianity.Church remains a mute spectator when the righteous is subjugated. It is disheartening to see Naga Christian leaders preferring to stay aloof or maintaining neutrality when they are obliged to speak out the truth for the right sake. Thus they are committing act of omission by refusing to fight a battle of truth against the lie.Remove hypocrisy from the house of God and prayer.

Beware the Almighty God Lord Jesus Christ warns.

It is obvious that corruption is indulged by the highestlevel and the most powerful forcedown to the lowest grass root level. Under the present miserable condition people yearn for a better change.Is clean election possible without refor ming the society?

When corruption prevails everywhere in the society, how can clean election take place? Dirty elections reflect corrupt practice in the society.How can a room be cleaned by washing a trouser only when everything inside isdirty? It is possible to abolish corruption because the highest and the most powerful force in India, the central government, has already initiated the task of eliminating corruption and the process has begun under the BJP led NDA government and under the leadership of the prime minister of India,NarendraModi. The government is the highest agency of change without which no better social change can truly happen.

Once corruption and social evils are removed from public life, there will be clean election. It is possible to achieve clean elections but this is a complicated task and cannot be achieved overnight. All the people of the state shouldcooperate, play their role and put effortsto liberate Nagaland from the slavery of corruption for the sake of the younger generation.

nama, gidar singhi amuk mother vashayan kuru kuru sawah. None of them make any sense in Sanskrit but, depending on the site, you have to say these, ranging from 21-108 times. And even then it won’t work unless a crystal mala is bought from the same site and “charged” regularly – which costs even more money.

The Muslims are told that Allah has put a special power inside it. And buying just one is not good enough.

You have to get a male and female. According to them the horn is collected only on the waning moon on a particular nakshatra which is only known to the “masters”. You must put the siyar singhi in your hand and say “I own you... my name is so and so... you have to obey me” and then put this in a silver box along with 3 cloves and 2 cardamoms. You can use this item to cause extreme pain and even death to your enemies.

In order to make it even more expensive, the sites have gone into incredible detail: The jackal is not any jackal, but a rare species called Motiya. And not any motiya either. It has to be the

leader of the pack. And how will you know that he is the leader and carries the horn.

Because “he dies after he hears a regular outburst of strange voices”. He cannot be old, as the singhi disappears from his head, so he has to be a young leader of a pack – which is even rarer.

How does one make out the horn is real – put the singhi in mercury (the kind you get in old thermometers). The horn will eat it up!

If that wasn’t bad enough, one type of Siyar Singh, called Linga Siyar Singhi which comes from the jackal penis, is now being pushed as a sacred object. I suppose it is easier to verify than an imaginary horn.

Every site claims that every other site and shop selling this Siyar Singhi are selling fakes taken from dogs and pigs and stuck onto bones with glue. In the 21st century if you believe that a bone and a hank of hair can get you what you can’t get through work, prayer, education and ambition, then go ahead and make these fake site owners rich! ‘A true Naga in museum and books not in reality’

W

e (Nagas) are so much moder n and influenced with the western civilization and culture that our culture is dying, it is disappearing so fast. The present generation of Nagas do not know its own history, culture, dance, folk songs, food habit, dialect, etc.

Only a handful knows of it.

Instead the books written by non Naga authors are much better and reliable than the books written by Naga authors. Time will come we will not know what is our culture, history, uniqueness, food, etc. We (Nagas) started living and loving the western to the highest extent that our rich culture is nothing now. Our culture is 100 times richer than the Western.

What is ours? Where is ours? Who are we? What are we unique for? We don’t wear our own cloths, we occasionally wear it. Imagine if we wear our own cloths, how beautiful it will be, it is not only beautiful but it will promote young entrepreneurs at the same time economy of Nagas will grow tremendously.

We are so much to non Naga food habit that we don’t want to eat our own Naga food. Like our cloths our food habit is also disappearing, we want fast food, we want noodles, we want Mc Donald, we want pizza, we want KFC but we don’t want to visit a Naga hotel or eat in Naga restaurant.

Imagine if we eat and go to our own indigenous or Naga hotel it will not only help the entrepreneurs to

grow but help the Naga economy boost.

Who we are now?

What is your identity? I am a Naga in name! The way I dress is not Naga, the way I chose food is not Naga, the way I live is not Naga, the way my house is built is not Naga, the things I like is not Naga, the things a Naga craftsman make I don’t use, the music I like is not Naga, the dance I like is not Naga. Am I a true Naga? Where is my identity to prove that I am a Naga? There is nothing in me to signify that I am a Naga.

Only my mouth will speak out that I am a Naga.

Is this what Nagas are living for, to lose our own identity? To completely change into a non Naga?

Are we running away from our own identity? Are you a Naga by the way you live?

These are the questions we need to ask our-self.

This is important to us, year after year why our culture, history, uniqueness, etc is vanishing.

What are we fighting for? What is the use of freedom struggle? When the culture, food, music, stuff, lifestyle, dance, etc nothing is ours now. Where is our uniqueness we are fighting for, for there is nothing to be called unique (now in subjucation and under the western culture). We are no longer Naga or have unique history we had.

Constant shutting down of power supply

Slightest wind and rainfall causes power shut-down in Dimapur and this is becoming a regular habit. This constant shutting down causes a lot of problems not only to business establishments but more so, for the common public, some of whom do not possess inverters at home. It would be very expedient on the part of power department to give the timing for shut-down of power supply locality wise for convenience of all consumers.

It is ironical that people have to pay electricity bills but are actually deprived of power for long periods of time in a day. With so much difficulties being faced by the public of Nagaland with all those potholes, collapsed bridges, irregular water supply and to top it with constant power fluctuations really make our state pathetic.

It is high time that all the basic amenity departments concerned take stoke of the situation and ease the problems of the public.

DIMAPRU: Council of Nagalim Churches (CNC) has informed that a onehour-long chain of prayer (2nd and 3rd phase) would continue on account of the Indo-Naga talk. NEW DELHI, AUG 28 (AGENCIES): Unlike the previous NDA regime under Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee where allies could throw their weight around, the current BJP led by Amit Shah is running the ruling coalition almost on its own steam, leaving a limited role for partners.

Sources said Shah was likely to play the role of NDA convener too.

This was obvious in the past few months when he negotiated through his core team with prospective allies and leaders wishing to jump ship and join the ruling party.

The post of NDA convener was held by JDU till Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar decided to part ways in 2013. George Fernandes and later Sharad Yadav played the role for several years. Nine state-level taxes subsumed in GST include state value added tax, central sales tax, purchase tax, luxury tax, entry tax (all forms), entertainment tax (except those levied by local bodies), taxes on advertisements, taxes on lotteries, betting and gambling and state cesses and surcharges so far as they relate to the supply of goods or services.

However, taxes on income, property and capital transactions, petroleum products, state excise and electricity duty are not part of GST and states would continue to levy and collect these in the same manner as earlier.

At an aggregate level, the state taxes that are subsumed in GST accounted for 55 per cent of states’ tax revenue.

“Like the state VAT which was rolled out from April 2005 to January 2008, implementation of GST will also bring in some efficiency gains”.

Another official said businesses can continue to file returns and pay taxes even after the deadline ends, much like what happens in case of income tax returns and payment.

As per the GST law, any registered person who fails to furnish details of outward or inward supplies or returns required by the due date will have to pay a late fee of Rs 100 for every day during which such failure continues subject to a maximum Rs 5,000.

Besides, every person who fails to pay the tax within the period prescribed will be required to pay interest at 18 per cent from the day succeeding the day on which such tax was due to be paid.

While 72 lakh assessees of the old indirect tax regime have migrated to the GST Network portal, nearly 50 lakh have completed the migration process. Besides, of the 15 lakh fresh registrations, as many as 10 lakh are expected to file returns for July.

US dollar ends cheaper against rupee

New Delhi, Aug 28 (IANS): The implementation of the Goods and Services tax (GST) will have a positive impact on state governments’ finances in the medium to long term, domestic rating agency India Ratings and Research (Ind-Ra) said on Monday.

Even in the shor t term, the impact on aggregate state finances will be positive but calculations show that the picture may vary from state to state, it said in a report.

The report said that GST revenues of all states combined will grow at 16.6 per cent in 2017-18 over 2015-16. However, since the picture at the individual state level differs, eight states namely Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Punjab and Tamil Nadu would need compensation from the central government for any revenue loss under baseline scenario, it said.

New Delhi, Aug 28 (Agencies): Gold prices turned soft on Monday, down Rs 50 at Rs 29,900 per 10 grams, owing to slack demand from local jewellers despite a positive global trend. Silver was unchanged at Rs 40,200 per kg in scattered deals from industrial units and coin makers.

Easing demand, traders said, from local jewellers and retailers at the spot market brought about the decline in gold, but a firm trend overseas arrested the fall. Globally, gold rose 0.41 percent to USD 1,296.10 an ounce and silver by 0.44

N ew D elhi , Aug 28 (Agencies): After launching Rs 200 note for the first time time in history, Reserve Bank of India (RBI) may soon issue Rs 1,000 denomination bank note it had discontinued last year during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s demonetisation move. The all-new Rs 1,000 currency note will come with enhanced security features and a new design.

According to a DNA Money report, the government will shortly start printing the new Rs 1,000 note to bridge the wide gap between the existing Rs 500 and Rs 2,000 notes.

The introduction of Rs 1000 notes could further ease daily transactions as the absence of any denomination between Rs 500 and Rs 2000 at present often make small transactions difficult. There were many reports soon after demonetisation that the government would eventually re-issue

New Delhi, Aug 28 (PTI): Over 36 lakh businesses have so far filed their first tax returns under the Goods and Services Tax (GST) regime, a top tax official said Monday.

Tax collected in the maiden filings under the GST regime, which kicked in from July 1, are still being compiled as the last date for filings under different rules is not yet over, he said.

The revenue department had estimated collection of around Rs 65,000 crore from maiden GST, the official said.

The deadline for filing first monthly return and payment of taxes under GST - the new indirect tax regime that unifies over a dozen state and central taxes, including excise duty, service tax and VAT - ended on August 25.

However, businesses that availed transitional credit were allowed to file returns till August 28 after paying taxes on self-assessment basis by August 25.

NEW DELHI, AUG 28 (Agencies): You may soon need to shell out less if you pay digitally. The government is looking at giving a 2% incentive over the applicable GST tax rate in case of digital payments where the bill is up to Rs 2,000, in a move aimed at discouraging cash payments.

According to sources, the proposal - which may give the benefit in the form of a discount or cash-back - is being discussed between the finance ministry, RBI, cabinet secretariat and ministry of electronics and IT. “The idea is to incentivise all kinds of digital payments, especially smaller transactions, in line with the government’s plan of making India a less-cash economy,” a source told TOI. WASHINGTON/NEW DELHI, AUG 28 (AGENCIES): Two hundred Indian students are marooned in the Houston floods, with the University of Houston submerged in neck-deep water, and two of them are in an intensive care unit, according to the Indian embassy spokesman in Washington.

Efforts are on to ensure that relatives of the two students in hospital – identified as Shalini and Nikhil Bhatia – are able to reach them at the earliest.

US emergency officials said tropical storm Harvey affected 450,000 people when it battered Texas, leaving floods and a trail of destruction in its wake.

External affairs minister Sushma Swaraj tweeted

on Monday that India’s consulate in Houston had informed her “that 200 Indian students at University of Houston are marooned.

They are surrounded by neck deep water... We made efforts for delivery of food but US Coast Guard did not allow as boats were required for rescue operations.”

She also confirmed that two students were critically injured and are in an ICU. The Indian consulate general in Houston is arranging the rescue of the marooned students, officials said.

Anupam Ray, the consul general in Houston, posted on Facebook: “Monitoring a serious incident involving 2 Indian nationals at College Station. I have reached India in USA (Con-

sulate General of India, Houston) and we are trying to provide whatever help we can. One of our consular officers will try and make it to College Station.”

In a subsequent post, he wrote that embassy officials had established contact with the students, adding that they would be evacuated by Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the met office warned that Harvey, the most powerful hurricane to hit Texas in more than 50 years, was set to result in more rain in Houston.

“What we’re seeing is the most devastating flood event in Houston’s recorded history,” said Steve Bowen, chief meteorologist at reinsurance company Aon Benfield.

Islamabad, Aug 28 (IANS): Pakistan’s leadership has slammed the top US commander in Afghanistan, Gen. John W. Nicholson, a day after he claimed that Washington “knows the Afghan Taliban leadership is in Quetta and Peshawar”.

Turning the tables, Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal told Dawn newspaper that the “Taliban were using Afghanistan as the launch pad for their operations, both inside and outside Pakistan”.

He said the Taliban had no need to hide in Pakistan, since they held more than 40 per cent of Afghanistan, the daily reported on Monday.

“If they have control over so much land and resources in Afghanistan, it means they have hideouts there, not in Pakistan,” Iqbal said.

Nicholson told Kabul’s Tolo News on Saturday that Washington was aware of the Afghan Taliban leadership’s presence in the two Pakistani cities, adding that the US military would continue to put pressure on Taliban sanctuaries inside and outside Afghanistan.

BANGKOK, Aug 28 (Agencies): Thailand’s former prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra kneeled before a row of saffronrobed Buddhist monks last Wednesday as she offered them fruits and sticky rice soaked in coconut milk and logan juice, a specialty from her northern region.

At the auspicious hour of 9am, she released fish at the Temple of the Bells near Bangkok’s Chaophraya river, a practice Thai Buddhists believe brings good karma.

At that point, aides say they believed she still intended to appear on Friday for sentencing in the criminal negligence case brought

by Thailand’s junta over a costly rice subsidy scheme.

Within about a day, she had left the country.

“She chose to leave because she heard from her sources that the court would give her a heavy sentence and would not grant her bail,” said one source close to Yingluck. “She’s not a last minute person. She always plans things very carefully. This was a last-minute decision.” Yingluck fled with two aides but left her only son, Supasek Amornchat, 15, behind in Thailand, the source said.

It was not clear why the police had information up to that point but not beyond.

The junta has denied leaving a door open for Yingluck to escape - solving a problem for Thailand’s generals concerned that if she was imprisoned she would become a martyr but both her supporters and enemies have questioned whether she had official help.

Sources in the Puea Thai Party said she fled first to Cambodia - a route often used by Thai opposition figures in the past as the border is porous and it is less than four hours drive from Bangkok.

Thai media have said she took a private jet from Cambodia to Singapore and then on to Dubai.

MTV VMAs: Kendrick Lamar dominates as awards show gets political T he MTV Video Music Awards are always a big night for pop music, but were also dominated by political statements at a fiery show in Los Angeles.

Artists spoke out against white supremacy and urged suicide awareness during the awards on Sunday night. Transgender military personnel attended, days after President Donald Trump signed a directive to ban them.

Kendrick Lamar was the night’s big winner, picking up six awards including video of the year for Humble.

The video, directed by Dave Meyers, takes a wry look at the rapper’s growing fame and sees him dressing up as a pope and taking part in a Last Supper.

Ed Sheeran was named Artist of the Year and Fifth Harmony got the Best Pop Video award for Down.

Taylor Swift was a noshow - perhaps wise given her history with awards host Katy Perry - but won best collaboration for her track with Zayn, I Don’t Wanna Live Forever. And she debuted the video for Look What You Made Me Do during the awards.

But it was politics that has grabbed most of the night’s headlines.

There was an appearance from the mother of Heather Heyer, killed during a protest against a far-right march in Charlottesville,

Virginia.

Susan Bro handed out the Fight Against the System Award, 15 days after Ms Heyer’s death. Paying tribute to her daughter, she said: “I miss her, but I know she’s here tonight.”

ctress Bidita Bag, whose latest release is “Babumoshai Bandookbaaz”, says the film industry knows the importance of actors and not just stars. “This industry is very fair. People in the industry are known because of their talent and their hard work. If an actor does not showcase his worth in films, then he or she will no more be a part of this industry.

“If you see superstars, they are also here because of the work they do. The film industry knows the importance of actors and not just stars,” Bidita said at the trailer launch of her upcoming film “Rabbi” here on Monday.

“Rabbi” is a story of the rise and fall of a young musician, essayed by fresh face Furqan Merchant. Bidita, who was seen in a very bold avatar in her previous film, said her role in “Rabbi” is a complete opposite. “You will see me in a completely different avatar than what you have seen in ‘Babumoshai...’.

I play a character of a girl from Kashmir. She belongs to a conservative family, but she has very liberal thoughts even though she might look very traditional in her outer appearance,” she said.

Naga Food Festival at Delhi draws great response

aga Food Festival at New Delhi saw a great response at Madhya Pradesh Bhavanon on August 27. The event was inaugurated by Minister for Environment, Forests & Climate Change, Neiba Kronu and was also graced by Narottam Mishra, Minister for Water Resources, Public Relations, Government of Madhya Pradesh and Rameshwar Sharma, MLA from Bhopal.

Senior officers from Government of India and Government of Madhya Pradesh were also present.

People from all over Delhi enjoyed the exotic cuisine of Nagaland.

There was also heavy rush at Naga Food Festival at Manipur Bhavan. The function was graced by Vinit Joshi, Resident Commissioner, Manipur and guests from Manipur, Na-

galand and all over Delhi.

Everyone relished the dishes served for its authentic taste. Nagaland House Delhi organised the Naga Food Festival in Madhya Pradesh Bhawan and Manipur Bhawan on August 26 and 27.

This was a part of the Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat initiative under which different Bhawans are hosting cuisines of other Bhawans.

On August 19 the cuisine of Madhya Pradesh was served in Nagaland House Delhi and residents and other guests got the flavour of Madhya Pradesh cuisine. On September 4, the cuisine of Manipur will be served in Nagaland House Delhi.

As per response received on the Facebook page of Nagaland House Delhi, there is a buzz in Delhi about the Naga Food Festival events in Mad-

hya Pradesh Bhawan and Manipur Bhawan on the August 26 and 27. Many are expected to come and relish the authentic, organic and exotic dishes being specially created for this occasion. The exotic buffet menu has been reasonably priced at Rs 500/- only per person.

Nagaland House Delhi has extended gratitude to the Horticulture Department, Government of Nagaland for ensuring that organic and fresh fruits and vegetables are made available for the occasion.

This initiative is one of its kind attempt to expose residents of Delhi to the cuisine of Nagaland. In future, Nagaland House Delhi will be organizing many more events that would include Food Festivals along with music and culture of the State.

Reason being that Kapil had to be hospitalised after suffering a bout of uneasiness due to his high

Kapil was in the news early this year for the unauthorized construction in his Andheri property. The comedian later took to his Twitter account to tweet to the PM claiming that he was asked by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to pay Rs 5 lakh bribe to make an office in the city.

His tweet read, “I am paying Rs 15 cr income tax from last 5-year n still i have to pay 5 lacs bribe to BMC office for making my office @narendramodi,” he posted.

The championship was played at Sainik School Nagrota, Jammu and Kashmir.

Adding to the laurels, Cadet Tania Raji, captain of the school football team, was adjudged the best player of the championship.

Football legends to visit India during WC trophy tour

D i m a p u r , Au g 2 8 (NPN): The 1st Khuniho Memorial Trophy got underway Monday at Chozuba town with Deputy Commissioner of Phek, Kovi Meyase as the chief guest.

The tournament is being organised by 111, BN, BSF Satakha town in memory of late Khuniho Sema who along with his seven comrades made the supreme sacrifice while defending their post. The main objective of the tournament is to encourage and tap young talents.

In his speech, Meyase lauded the CO and his team for organising such event for the youths. He encouraged the youths to dream big, citing the examples of the great footballers like Pele, Maradona and Ronaldo who were all products of suburbs and villages. “Lack of practice, perseverance, dedication and discipline are the reasons our state is lacking behind other states,” he added.

In the first match, Chozuba Town Youth Association blanked Springle FC, Satakha 4-0.

Kohima, Aug 28 (NPN): District Sports Officer, Kohima has informed that the district level catch them young tournament cum selection for the inter district tournament (U-14 years) would be held on September 6 and7 in the discipline of badminton, 100 metre race, 200 metre race and cross country race.

Ko h i m a , Au g 2 8 (NPN): Kekhriengulie Usou hat-trick helped Khriekesa FC hold Nagabazar FC to a 3-3 draw in the 7th round of the ongoing Kohima Football League on Monday.

W i t h t h e d r a w, Khriekesa FC team is out of the title contenders but will secure a top four position in the league standing.

Khriekesa FC ended the tournament with 11 points from three win, two draw and two loss in the league.

Neiphivilie Seyie scored the only goal of first half for Nagabazar FC on 43rd minutes.

However, a defensive error from Nagabazar in the second half handed Khriekesa FC the equalizer when Kekhriengulie Usou headed the ball past the goalkeeper on 54th minutes through a cross from Ruokuovolie Phewhuo.

Nagabazar’s talisman Kezhose with his brilliant skills collected the ball outside the box and smashed the unstoppable ball into the net on 62nd minutes.

2 m i n u t e s l a t e r, Kekhriengulie Usou, who was left unmark inside the danger area, headed the ball into the net again to make it 2-2.

As the match was heading towards Nagabazar FC, Kekhriengulie Usou headed a late equalizer to make it 3-3 forcing the two sides share the spoils in an entertaining encounter. With three goals, Kekhriengulie became the 3rd hat-trick scorer of the Kohima Football League 2017.

Khriekesa’s striker Petevizo got numerous chances during the game but failed to convert as the team suffered a blow in the title race.

Petivizo did attempt twice during the match but were called offside. Social activist Peter Rutsa was the match patron of the day.

M u m b a i , Au g 2 8 (IANS): FIFA legends Carlos Valderrama, Fernando Morientes, Marcel Desailly, Jorge Campos and Emmanuel Amuneke will join the U-17 World Cup Trophy experience on September 6 to mark ‘30 days to go’ until the start of the first FIFA tournament in the country, a statement said.

Earlier, Spain’s World Cup winning skipper Carles Puyol, former Argentina midfielder Esteban Cambiasso and Nigerian forward Nwankwo Kanu were part of the U-17 World Cup draw here.

The legends will take part in the Mumbai leg of the trophy experience and will play in an exhibition

match at the D.Y. Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai to celebrate the start of the tournament.

An iconic star of Colombian and South American football, Valderrama, “El Pibe”, played in three editions of the World Cup in a decorated career spanning more than two decades.

Morientes featured in two editions of the World Cup for Spain and is fondly remembered for his three UEFA Champions League trophies with Real Madrid.

Desailly was part of the French side that won the 1998 FIFA World Cup and went on to captain Les Bleus to two Confederations Cup titles in 2001 and

2003, winning numerous other trophies along the way.

Striker-turned-goalkeeper Campos revolutionised the art of goalkeeping and was Mexico’s undisputed first-choice custodian in successive editions of the World Cup -- US (1994) and France (1998).

A former Nigeria international at the 1994 FIFA World Cup and Olympic gold medallist in 1996, Amuneke began a successful coaching career that saw him leading the Golden Eaglets to glory at the U-17 World Cup 2015 in Chile. “ T h e F I FA U - 1 7 World Cup in India will be

a milestone in the history of football. I look forward to joining the Trophy Experience, which will bring the excitement of this landmark event even closer to Indian fans.”

“There are great expectations in Colombia ahead of the first participation of our team since Nigeria 2009,” Valderrama said.

The trophy experience will witness the official winner’s trophy of the U-17 World Cup visit all the six host cities, giving millions of Indians the chance to be part of the football festival.

The final of the tournament will be played at the Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata on October 28.

Shillong Lajong sign six foreign players for I-League

SHILLONG, Aug 28 (PTI): Shillong Lajong Football Club on Monday announced the signings of six foreign players for the ILeague 2017-18 season.

The new signings are centre forward Abdoulaye Koffi of Ivory Coast, centre back Laurence Doe of Liberia, defensive midfielder Daniel Odafin of Nigeria, Swedish-Gambian striker Saihou Jagne, attacking midfielder Aiman Salah AlHagri of Yemen and central defender Oh Juho of the Republic of Korea.

After acquiring the signatures of these foreign players, Lajong has completed their international signings formalities for the upcoming season. All six players are expected to strengthen the Lajong squad as they bring with them years of experience. For the new I-league season, the number of foreign players allowed to be fielded in the starting XI has been increased to five from four, and teams can register up to six foreigners.

TOKYO, Aug 28 (Agencies): Japan’s Kimiko Date, the grand dame of women’s tennis, has announced she will retire from the game a few days short of her 47th birthday.

The for mer world number four said on her official blog that she will add the “full stop” to her career by retiring -- for a second time -- after the

Japan Women’s Open tournament, which begins in Tokyo on September 11.

“I have always been obsessed with competing,” said Date, who took a 12year hiatus from professional tennis after quitting at the peak of her powers in 1996.

“But increasingly I’ve found myself adjusting the length and intensity of

training to look after my physical condition.

“It has not been an easy decision to sever the feeling that I want to get back on court and run around like I used to,” added the eight-time WTA Tour singles champion and former Wimbledon semifinalist.

“But it is time to put the punctuation point on my tennis career.”

The Kyoto native, whose game is a throwback to a time when tennis was more about lobs, dinks and clever use of spin than power-hitting, broke several records in the sport.

Most notably in 2009, Date became the secondoldest player in the modern era to win a WTA singles title after Billie Jean King when she captured the Korea Open.

Despite playing on until the ripe old age of 46, Date fell some way short of her idol Martina Navratilova, who retired a month short of her 50th birthday in 2006.
