NGBF president Shalem Konyak also apprised the Prime Minister that due to killings between security forces and differ-

Even NPCC president K. Therie had filed a SLP in the Supreme Court against the by election. workers for ensuring victory. He said the trust reposed by the people was a sign that the present crisis was going to be overcome and towards this, new strategies and plans would be implemented to strengthen NPF. Recalling his electoral battles, the veteran regionalist said that out of 11 elections he lost twice-one in 1989 assembly election and the other Lok Sabha election in 1999. He did not contest in 1998 in response to the call by Naga Hoho and subsequently the ‘Cock’ symbol was frozen by the ECI. Dr. Liezietsü decided to contest the 1999 Lok Sabha election to get back the ‘Cock’ symbol which he succeeded even though he lost the election. Dr. Liezietsü also took a dig at the forces arrayed against him such as the 47 legislators, the political heavyweights within and outside Nagaland and the state Governor. He cited the unconstitutional manner in which an expelled member– T.R. Zeliang- was appointed chief whip by legislators as against the official chief whip-Kiyanilie Peseyie- who was appointed by the party as per constitutional norms.

Zeliang. NPF said as per Tokheho’s version, the February 15 meeting appeared to be a turning point regarding the resolution to replace T.R. Zeliang. NPF however said the issue began on February 12 meeting, where Tokheho and Y. Patton, among few other MLAs “strongly proposed Dr. Shürhozelie to take over”. Based on this, a signature campaign was launched where Tokheho’s signature “figured prominently”, it said. (Full text on p-6)
