The UFBU is an umbrella body of nine unions in the banking sector. All India Bank Employees Association (AIBEA) General Secretary C.H. Venkatachalam said the Chief Labour Commissioner of the Ministry of Labour had called for a conciliation meeting in Delhi on Tuesday morning. Representatives of the Indian Banks Association (IBA) and UFBU were present. “All attempts to find solutions to the demands raised by the unions yielded no result. So the United Forum of Bank Unions decided to proceed with the proposed strike on February 28,” Venkatachalam said. PPC lifts bandh on govt offices in Longleng distt.

DIMPAPUR, FEB 21 (NPN): Phom Peoples’ Council (PPC) on Tuesday said it has lifted bandh on all government offices and movement of government registered vehicles within Longleng district with effect from February 20. In a press release, PPC president, Chingan Phom, and information secretary, Yanger Phom, said it was as per the decision of the JCC and NTAC. Meanwhile, the PPC has informed all government servants of Longleng district to remain in their respective posting places and carry out their duties normally. It has also expressed gratitude to all the citizens of Longleng district for their cooperation during the bandh called by JCC and NTAC.

Gov for promotion of mother tongue DIMAPUR, FEB 21 (NPN): On the occasion of the “International Mother Tongue Day”, the Nagaland governor, PB Acharya, has called for promoting and preserving mother language in order to “keep our tradition and heritage alive.” In his message, the governor said Mother tongue played a very important role not only in developing initial understanding of a child but also as his first identity. Acharya also said that Mother tongue was the first and foremost identity of each person, adding that “our ancestors have given to us their valuable research and knowledge in our own mother tongue.” He said that no matter how many different languages one may master, one’s individuality would remain as a member of one’s mother tongue society. “You are born with your mother tongue and pass away only with that identity,” governor said. Further, Acharya asserted that everyone should be proud of tether mother language, which he said was their destiny, they cannot change it. Governor said it was through the mother language, the scientists have observed that people learn easily and correctly the basic things and attain the wisdom.

NEW DELHI, FEB 21 (IANS): A constitution bench will hear in May whether the children of illegal Bangladeshi migrants to Assam born here can avail the benefit of citizenship under the existing law, the Supreme Court said on Tuesday. A bench comprising Chief Justice J.S. Khehar, Justice D.Y. Chandrachud and Justice S.K. Kaul said it would hear the case during summer vacation when four constitution benches would sit from May 11 to July 1 to hear other contentious issues. The bench would also hear then issue of constitutional validity of Section 6A of the Citizenship Act with regard to the cut-off date for awarding citizenship to the Bangladeshi migrants. The court fixed the matter for May 11.

NPF revokes suspension order on Imkong L. Imchen Staff Reporter

Imchen the three-time MLA of 29 Koridang assembly constituency under Mokokchung district has had his suspension from the NPF party revoked by party president Dr. Shürhozelie Liezietsü with effect from February 21,2017. The revocation of suspension came after Imchen on Tuesday, tendered his apology to the party president for committing “breach of discipline” which invited suspension of primary and active membership of the party (since April 14, 2016). In his letter, Imchen requested the president to pardon him and revoke the suspension, so as to serve the party obediently and pledged his allegiance to the party and strengthen it in the days to come. While revoking the suspension on Imchen, party president Dr.Shürhozelie cited the officially declared reconciliation within the party at the Special General Convention on April

However there have been speculations doing the rounds about who goes out and who gets in. According to reports which remained unverified yet consistently being speculated, there would be exchange between Chotisuh Sazo who will resign as speaker and be inducted as minister. Yitachu who was a cabinet minister (School Education) will be elected as the next Speaker. There was also strong speculation that Imkong L. Imchen would be inducted as minister as also Kuzholuzo Neinu (Azo) and Kaito. Induction any number of legislators over the previous cabinet would mean that an equal number would have to be dropped. This challenge of ministry formation remains a constant factor and how Dr. Shürhozelie Liezietsü manages to strike a balance and also ensure party discipline remains to be seen.

CMA temporarily dissociates from NMA DIMAPUR, FEB 21 (NPN): Chakhesang Mothers Association (CMA) on Tuesday decided “to disassociate from the Naga Mothers’ Association (NMA) for time being”. Demand for 3-member JIC to probe Jan 31 incident Staff Reporter

DIMAPUR, FEB 21 (NPN): Joint Coordination Committee (JCC) and Nagaland Tribes Action Committee (NTAC) have rejected the one-man Judicial Inquiry Commission (JIC) set up by the state government to look into the January 31 incident and instead demanded that the government constitute a three-member Judicial Inquiry Commission and to include an eminent personality from an NGO acceptable to both NTAC and JCC. Two youths-Khriesavizo (Avizo) Metha and Bendangnungsang Longkumer were killed on January 31 night in the police firing in Dimapur injuring four others. On the same day, seven persons were also injured in the police firing in Longleng.

JCC and NTAC also demanded that the state government to complete the probe within 30-days after the Judicial Inquiry Commission was constituted. The decision to this effect was taken at the joint press conference of JCC and NTAC held at Dimapur on Tuesday. Even as the state-wide bandh had been called off following the chief minister’s resignation, JCC media cell said the committees have vowed to pursue the other demands which included suspension of former police commissioner and the erring police personnel for an impartial inquiry. The committees also asked the state government to start dialogue with the civil society organizations and to amend the Nagaland Municipal Act.

Meanwhile, JCC media cell clarified that the committee was not against 33%women reservation but was firm to protect Article 71 (A). In a stern warning to those accusing JCC of going against women reservation, the committee said such individuals would held be answerable to the Nagas. Further, JCC also cautioned and urged upon some women activists to stop propagating false propaganda in the national media. On Tuesday Nagaland secretariat, NLA secretariat and other offices in the state capital, which were locked by Angami youth Organization (AYO), were opened and began functioning from Tuesday. However, attendance was thin in many offices. M e a n w h i l e, AYO president Neinguvotuo Krose and general secretary Kekhrie Pfukha, in a press release, informed the general public that on the direction of NTAC and Angami Public Organization (APO), the youth organization lifted the ongoing indefinite bandh on all government offices and movement of government vehicles with effect from February 21.
