unrest: Students, teachers to hold Ibobi inciting communal tension: Shürho DU counter-rallies after ‘Tiranga march’
DIMAPUR, FEB 27 (NPN): Nagaland chief minister, Dr. Shürhozelie Liezietsu on Monday accused his Manipur counterpart, O. Ibobi Singh, of inciting communal tensions in Manipur, “so that the valley people back him during elections.” “He is more communal than his political party,” alleged Dr. Liezietsu while speaking at the launching of the NPF election rally at Senapati Monday morning, CMO medial cell stated. Dr. Liezietsu in this regard called upon the Meiteis not to fall prey to Ibobi’s designs and also urged upon “scholars and intellectuals to come out and speak the truth.” If the truth is spoken, peace and harmony will come to the land, he said. Dr. Liezietsu reminded that Meiteis and the hill tribes of Manipur had been maintaining good neighbourly relations since time immemorial and would continue to do so even in the future. Noting that the Meiteis and the hill tribes of Manipur had no other homeland except the ones they presently occupy, Dr. Liezietsu said they have no option but to remain
“It is for this reason that the NPF hopes to provide a single platform to all the legislators from the hill districts so that they can speak in one voice and one mind in the Assembly,” he said. On Naga political issue, Dr. Liezietsu said “any problem that is to be solved peacefully through dialogue should not be construed as going against any community,” and assured that his party stood by its motto Fide Non Armis (By Faith, Not by Arms). He told the gathering that, even as some Dr. Shürhozelie Liezietsu speaking at the election rally. Centre readies Rs 195 cr scheme to check obscene content online
LU CK N OW, F E B 2 7 (AGENCIES): An estimated 57.36 per cent of 1.81 crore electorate on Monday cast their votes amid tight security during the fifth phase of polling in Uttar Pradesh. The day-long poll process remained largely peaceful in 51 Assembly constituencies spread over 11 districts of the state. “57.36 per cent polling was recorded till 5 PM and the figure is likely to go up as several voters waited in queues to exercise their franchise,” UP Chief Electoral Officer T Venkatesh said. The first four phases of UP polls this time saw voter turnouts of 64 per cent, 65 per cent, 61.16 per cent and 61 per cent respectively. Though the exercise remained slow during the first two hours in morning, it picked up pace gradually with first-time voters seen exercising their franchise quite enthusiastically. Prominent contestants in the phase included controversial minister Gayatri Prasad Prajapati from the ruling SP, who is facing Amita Singh from Congress and BJP’s Garima Singh in Amethi, the LS constituency of Rahul Gandhi.

NEW DELHI, FEB 27 (AGENCIES): In a reply to a Supreme Court observation on ‘how can the Internet Service Providers stop uploading obscene content on the internet’, counsel for Google on Monday stated that the Centre has a scheme with “Rs 195.30 crore allotted which will have senior officers as experts monitoring the cybercrime issue”. The apex court is hearing arguments in the case which pertains to the “loss of dignity for women and children due to the objectionable content uploaded online”. The counsel for the respondents (Google) submitted that a new affidavit has been filed by the Centre in the case which talks about the salient features of cybercrime and how a Rs 195-crore scheme with experts has been devised to look into the issue.
In an earlier round of hearing, a bench of Justices MB Lokur and UU Lalit had sought information from Google about its “in-house procedure” adopted to identify such obscene content and “what steps can they take to prevent it”. However, senior counsel Abhishek Manu Singhvi, who was representing Google India, expressed regret in not being able to prevent such acts unless reported by an individual. This case has opened up the possibility of whether artificial intelligence can play a key role in the automatic deletion of objectionable content uploaded online. But on Monday, Google submitted that there are algorithms which govern the search engine’s operation and it is impossible to keep a check on it as the “system is automated and since there is no
human interface”. “To put a human interface in this automated system will skew the system as it will depend on a person to allow or disallow any content,” submitted Google India. This bench had earlier asked the search giant “will it or will not it be conducive to prevent the uploading of such contents” and also had said that what the apex court is “looking for is prevention and not cure, when it comes to comes to pornographic content online”. But on Monday, Google said that in a day, a billion videos are uploaded and “out of which may be 20 videos are of child pornography”. However, it also said that “there is a provision that can stop the serial offenders who have footprints of patterns”. The matter has now been adjourned to March 6.

DIMAPUR, FEB 27 (NPN): Residents of Peren town’s Mdipuiram and Beilikui wards have imposed indefinite road blocked to protest against the alleged “non-competition of road” by the contractor. In a joint press release, Mdipuiram ward youth president Nduzeu and Beilikui ward youth organization, president Paukuleu said the residents necessitated the youths of the two wards to indefinitely block the under construction road as the contractor failed to respond to their “fervent appeal”
they could speak to the UNC to lift the blockade. Rather, it was made known to them that the “blockade was Ibobi’s creation and it depends on him whether it could be lifted or not,” he said. “Dividing the people on communal lines and appealing to a section of the people for political gains is not advisable,” Zeliang said. Lamenting that the Naga political issue was yet to be resolved, Zeliang said there were “some political elements who do not want the problem to be solved because they think that once the Naga problem is solved, their political careers would come to an end.” Also speaking at the rally was Nagaland minister and NPF Manipur in-charge, Yitachu who made clarion call to the hills people to elect NPF candidates in the forthcoming general elections so that the MLAs would be able protect their people. “Only NPF party can fulfil the aspirations of the people of the Hills districts and electing the NPF candidates can fulfil your aspirations of fully implementing the provisions of the Constitution of India as contained in Article 371 C,” he said.
for black-topping the road. The signatories said the residents had appealed the responsible contractor several times, but turned a deaf ear to their plea. They said that the “callous attitude” of the contractor prompted the residents block the road. Affirming that the blockade would continue till the contractor commenced the works, the signatories warned that the contractor would be held responsible in case any unwanted events arose.
