Riverbed mining ban order extended

D IMAPUR , J UL 1 4 (NPN): Following the expiry of date of banning the use of heavy machinery for extraction of resources (sand gravels and boulders) in Dhansiri and Chathe river within Dimapur district as per order dated September 29, 2016, the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Dimapur on Friday said the order has been extended till further notice. In a press release, DC Dimapur, Kesonyu Yhome, stated that the ban was for preservation of the river and its resources and to address the issue of inundation of flood water to surrounding villages the river bank. DC informed that the order was issued for strict compliance by all concerned.

announcement of the date and place of the session is published in the Gazette and made in the press and members informed by telegram. He said till date, there was no notification nor any publication in the Gazette convening the house as directed in the Governor’s letters dated July 11 and July 13, 2017 respectively. After hearing the learned Counsel for the Petitioner, the Court said it was of the “tentative opinion” that an interim was called for and therefore, stayed the Governor’s letter till Monday July 17, when the matter will come up for hearing. Later, the chief minister Dr. Shürhozelie Liezietsü and his council of ministers called on the Governor P.B. Acharya after the latter arrived Kohima by chopper from Dimapur in the afternoon. In the meeting, chairman of DAN Kuzholuzo Azo Neinu reiterated to the Governor, that DAN coalition was intact and that the present crisis was only

within NPF party. He also cited the Governor’s actions during two crisis in NPF where different yardsticks were applied. Azo reminded Governor that in the 2015 NPF crisis, he along with majority of MLAs who supported Kaito Aye to replace T.R. Zeliang, paraded before him thrice to be invited to form the government. In 2015, he said the Governor , advised NPF dissidents to resolve the issue within themselves as it was an internal affair of the NPF. In the present crisis, he wondered how the Governor deemed it differently and not as an internal crisis within NPF. Again on the issue of floor test, Kuzholuzo reminded Governor that in 2015 he had given the minority T.R. Zeliang ministry one month time; whereas in the present crisis, chief minister Dr. Shürhozelie has been given only three days time for the floor test. The present crisis within NPF is likely to be accentuated by constitu-

tional arguments in the court in the coming days said Kuzholuzo to Nagaland Post. The new DAN Chairman has also made a strong appeal to those holed up in a luxury hotel in the Capital, to respond to the reconciliation in the interest of the party and the public of Nagaland. According to government sources, chief minister Dr. Shürhozelie has taken a stand against corruption and the recent order terminating the services of controversial M.K.R. Pillai, consultant to DGP was a point. The cabinet also has asked details of raids by Income Tax sleuths on various premises of Pillai including other business activities. In addition, the cabinet had ordered speedy probe, arrest and prosecution of those involved in various anomalies and irregularities in the Public Distribution System (PDS) under Food & Civil Supplies Department, fuel adulteration racket and food repacking scam exposed by ACAUT.

NPF youth wing stage rally against division within party

NPF party workers holding banners and placards march towards Raj Bhavan on Friday. (NP) Correspondent

KOHIMA, JUL 14 (NPN): Expressing strong resentment against the division within the party, thousands of NPF party workers including women wing on Friday took out a peaceful rally here from its central office to Raj Bhavan. The rally was organized by NPF central youth wing. The par ty workers holding placards, some of which read: “we have elected you, not to live in Craziranga”, “Dear power mongers respect the electorates sentiments”, “Stop dividing Naga society” walked down to Raj Bhavan and submitted memorandum to the Governor. The memorandum signed by NPF youth wing president, N. Vihoshe Swu, and working president, Bengangtoshi Longchar, urged the Governor to act only on the aid and advice of the council of ministers as the present council of ministers continued to enjoy the confidence of the House. The memorandum said the tussle for leadership was purely

an intra-party matter of the NPF. The memorandum stated that it was “highly irregular” that the office of the Governor to interfere in the internal matters of a political party. “The Supreme Court had laid down that a Governor cannot have the freedom to determine when and in which situation can he take a decision at his own discretion without the aid and advice of the Chief Minister and his Council of Ministers,” it stated. NPF youth wing also stated that the Constitution Bench of the Supreme Court, which unanimously quashed Arunachal Pradesh Governor J.P. Rajkhowa’s order to advance the Assembly session without the aid and advice of the Council of Ministers, described the happenings in Arunachal Pradesh leading to State emergency in 2015-16 as a “thrashing given to the Constitution and a spanking to governance.” It said the apex Court had also ruled that the Governor can summon or dissolve the Assembly for

43 MLAs back in Kohima

On Friday, the 43 legislators (36 NPF and 7 Independent) camped at Kaziranga since July 8 returned to Kohima, and reportedly lodged at Hotel Vivor. While on their way to Kohima, the MLAs were greeted by hundreds of protestors along the highway in Dimapur shouting slogans against them while some were seen with placards which read: “Stop fooling the people”, “Don’t play with people’s mandate”, “MLA hostel not in Kaziranga” etc. According to The New Indian Express report, the dissident NPF MLAs were on Friday evacuated from the flooded Kaziranga resort by boats. “There were some 130 people, including police personnel and NPF party workers, and they were evacuated in batches from 7 a.m. The SDRF boat ferried legislators while country boats and buses were arranged to take the NPF workers and cops out of the flooded resort. It took us around four hours to evacuate all of them,” a re(Cont’d on p-7) sort staff told the Express.
