In a separate statement, AKMWP pointed out that COVID-19 positive cases were rising at an alarming rate through suspected ‘community transmission’. AKMWP has therefore, served a five-day deadline on the state government to impose total lockdown in all wards of Kohima Municipal Council (KMC). The AKMWP ultimatum came close on the heels of detection of four new COVID-19 cases outside the quarantine centre here on Monday. AKMWP president Neibulie Kiewhuo and gen-
eral secretary Thejao Sekhose, in a letter addressed to Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kohima Gregory Thejawalie, stated that despite the rejection of its July 18, 2020 appeal for a two-week total lockdown in Kohima municipality, the citizens were seriously observing the steps taken for containing the spread of the virus. However, when DC forwarded the proposal to the government for a sevenday total lockdown in Kohima municipal area, it was rejected on the ground that a lockdown was not warranted. AKMWP claimed that due to ‘community transmission’ two COVID-19 positive

Speaking to Nagaland Post, Kiewhuo claimed that most of the wards had agreed for a total lockdown. He said in case the DC failed to respond to the ultimatum, the wards would be compelled to clamp down total lockdown in all the wards under KMC. However, AKMWP president appreciated the DC for understanding the plight and concern of the citizens. AKMWP has therefore, urged upon the district administration to ponder over the consequences if the current situation continues, and hence take appropriate measures within five days. AKIDA to temporarily resume services Sets 7-day deadline for action against miscreants
DIMAPUR, JUL 21 (NPN): While giving a seven-day respite to LPG customers suffering due to its indefinite stir since July 13, All Kohima Indane Distributors’ Association (AKIDA) has also set a one-week deadline for the State government to act on its demand to take action against the miscreants who assaulted two drivers of LPG vehicles. Following appeals from Association of Kohima Municipal Wards Panchayat (AKMWP) and Angamimiapfü Mechü Krotho (AMK) during a joint meeting held at Kohima on Monday to discuss the situation arising out of the strike, AKIDA agreed to temporary withdraw its indefinite strike. However, it set a rider that the government should take action against the perpetrators within these seven days. AKIDA announced it would resume its services from Wednesday, but warned of resuming its indefinite strike once again after expiry of seven days if the government fails to come up with an acceptable solution. In a representation to (Cont’d on p-8) deputy chief minister Y Pat-
ton, who is also in-charge of home department, AKIDA president Kuolachalie Seyie and general secretary Tseibou Dzüvichü said they were deeply pained to see frequent incidents of assault and all kinds of menace in the forms of extortion, illegal taxation and mental harassment caused to the business community in the State. They regretted that even after submitting representations to chief secretary, director general of police and commissioner on July 18 seeking safety and security of the business community, they did not get any satisfactory assurance till date whether appropriate action would be taken. Stating that it understood the inconveniences caused to people due to stoppage of supplying LPG cylinders, AKIDA informed the deputy chief minister that it would resume its services from Wednesday while also demanding that “appropriate legal action” should be taken against the miscreants behind the assaults on the LPG vehicle drivers on July 4 and 9
NPGs slam govt’s self-declaration order DIMAPUR, JUL 21 (NPN): Naga political groups (NPGs) including NSCN (I-M) and WC, NNPGs have slammed Nagaland government’s Office Memorandum (OM) dated July 7, 2020 directing all administrative heads and heads of departments to obtain information from all employees in a ‘selfdeclaration’ form, whether any of the employees have their family members and relatives in the underground organizations. NSCN (I-M) through its MIP said the directive was considered to be “one retrograde step worked out insidiously” to cripple the Naga political movement and forcefully bring the Naga political issue under the purview of ‘law and order’ issue. Denouncing the directives, NSCN (I-M) said it was nothing but desperate attempt to “browbeat Naga freedom fighters into submission.” It stated that such
“a despicable directive” stood incompatible with the spirit of “Indo-Naga” peace process. (Full text on p-6) WC, NNPGs expressed deep concern over the chief secretary’s order and likened the move to “profiling of national workers through government employees”. WC, NNPGs through its media cell described the order as “unprecedented, ominous” and said it required a second look. WC a l l e ge d t h a t the state government has “proved yet again that it is a remorseless gang of political lunatics and buffoons, at the mercy of dirty number game, bereft of reasoning or conscience to cling to power.” Asserting that currently there could be more than one lakh government employees in Nagaland, WC claimed that every single one from HoD down to grade IV employee had “blood relative standing for the Naga na-
tional cause.” WC asserted that the first form must be filled up by Nagaland state cabinet, legislators and all heads of departments “since all comes under the purview of the same order.” (Full text on p-6) Meanwhile, the Naga Hoho has termed the July 7,2020 directives from Chief secretary to all state government employees as “shocking and beyond comprehension”. It may be noted that the directive to all employees was to self-declare whether any of them have their family members and relatives in the underground organizations. NH Communication Cell reminded that ever since the first assembly election, every political party had clearly enshrined the pursuit of solution to the Naga political issue in their manifestos. It said even at various sessions, the state assembly had adopted resolutions over the issue. (Cont’d on p-8)
within the next seven days. The representation however warned that if the government failed to take any “concrete legal action” against the five miscreants, it would resume its indefinite strike. The association reminded Patton that, being in charge of the home department, he had been entrusted with the constitutional responsibility of safeguarding life and liberty of people. AKIDA said the State machinery should play the role it was expected to in an established democratic set-up. Mentioning that people had suffered enough, the association asserted that illegal taxation, assaults, harassment, etc, on the business community would not be tolerated. On July 18, AKIDA, in a representation addressed to chief secretary, commissioner and DGP, demanded legal action against miscreants involved in the assaults on LPG drivers on July 4 and 9, 2020 and protection of the lives and security of LPG distributors (AKIDA) and business community in the state in general.
NH urges govt to review dog meat ban decision
DIMAPUR, JUL 21 (NPN): Describing as “undoubtedly ridiculous” the July 3, 2020 decision of the state cabinet banning dog meat, commercial import and trading of dogs in the markets and also sale of both cooked and uncooked, the Naga Hoho (NH) has appealed to the state government to review such order as “Naga people are not going to stop eating dog meat and thereby the law itself would become a mockery.” NH through its communication department maintained that Nagaland was never a part of Indian princely states and the history of migration, their customs and tradition and food habit and social life of the Nagas cannot be compared with the people in mainland India. NH has, therefore, said that the “right for food cannot be taken away by any authority on earth.” (Cont’d on p-8)

caping out of the mask. In view of the above, I request you to instruct all concerned to follow the use of face/ mouth cover and prevent inappropriate use of N-95 masks,” DGHS Rajiv Garg said in the letter. “In view of the above, I request you to instruct all concerned to follow the guidelines on the use of face mouth cover and prevent inappropriate use of N-95 masks,” the letter read. The government had in April issued an advisory on the use of homemade protective cover for face and mouth, asking people to wear it, particularly when they step out of their residences. The advisory stressed such face covers must be washed and cleaned each day, as instructed, and stated that any used cotton cloth can be used to make
this face cover. The colour of the fabric does not matter but one must ensure that the fabric is washed well in boiling water for five minutes and dried well before making the face cover. Adding salt to this water is recommended, it said. It also listed the procedures of making such homemade masks, asking to ensure it fits the face well and there are no gaps on the sides. It urges people to wash hands thoroughly before wearing the face cover, switching to another fresh one as the face cover becomes damp or humid, and never reusing it after single use without cleaning it. “Never share the face cover with anyone. Every member in a family should have separate face cover,” the advisory stated.
