ager was believed to be a “lone wolf ” attacker who appeared to have been “inspired” by the Islamic State group but was not a member of the jihadist network. Authorities said he shouted “Allahu akbar” (God is greatest) three times as he ran through the carriage slashing passengers on the train near the southern city of Wuerzburg. The attacker is believed to be either Afghan or Pakistani and investigators are still trying to determine his identity. The train rampage triggered calls by politicians in Bavaria, of which Munich is the capital, to impose an upper limit on the number of refugees coming into the country. The assailant had arrived as an unaccompanied minor in Germany in June 2015 and had been staying with a foster family in the region of the attack for the last two weeks. A record 1.1 million migrants and refugees were let in to Germany last year, with Syrians making up the largest group followed by Afghans. Munich’s main train station was evacuated today after a shooting at a shopping centre left at least six people dead, a spokeswoman for the national railway service said. The public transportation service in the southern German city said bus, metro and streetcar service had been suspended “on police orders”.
MUNICH, JUL 22 (AGENCIES): At least six people are believed to have been killed in a shooting rampage in a Munich shopping centre today, a police source said, and three armed suspects are at large. The shooting spree began before 2130 IST at a McDonald’s restaurant and continued on a nearby street before the gunmen moved into the mall near the Olympic stadium in the southern German city, a police spokeswoman said. “There are several dead and injured,” the spokeswoman said, without confirming the death toll of six. Munich’s main train station has been evacuated and metro and bus transport in the
city suspended, officials said. Three gunmen were involved in the shooting, according to a police statement, citing witnesses. There was no information about the possible motives of the attack. Europe has been on alert for terrorism in the wake of a string of attacks including bombings in neighbouring France and Belgium. The OEZ shopping centre was surrounded by armed police, while a helicopter buzzed overhead. “There is a major police operation under way in the shopping centre,” Munich police said on Twitter, urging people to avoid the area. Emergency vehicles were seen in the streets outside, as

Germany has so far escaped the kind of large-scale jihadist attacks seen in France. But the shooting comes just days after a teenage asylum seeker went on a rampage with an axe and a knife on a regional train in Germany on Monday, injuring five people, two of them critically. One victim is still fighting for his life, the hospital treating him said today. Interior Minister Thomas de Maiziere said the teen-

He said the winners would be decided by the directorate of veterinary & animal husbandry (V&AH) and EA. Stating that as per livestock census of India, Nagaland was among the four states of North-East where mithun was found, the government pointed out that the National Research Centre on Mithun (NRCM) ICAR based in Jarnapani, Medziphema was the only Mithun research centre in the world. He asserted that mithun besides being emblem of the state was also a cultural resource of many folktales, beliefs, rituals and cultural practices. Acharya lauded the initiative of EA and suggested training more participants and take up more micro enterprises in their respective areas by providing micro credit loans, skills training, mentoring etc
to the participants. Earlier, the chief guest also released a documentary. Speaking as guest of honour, commissioner and secretary V&AH, M.K. Govt. doctors, nurses asked to perform Staff Reporter
DIMAPUR, JUL 22 (NPN): Delivering a hard-hitting reminder about their responsibilities against the backdrop of serious complaints of absenteeism especially in far flung areas across the state, Principal Director Health & Family Welfare Dr. Watikala urged upon both doctors and staff nurses to remain within the areas of posting and perform their duties faithfully. She was speaking at the inaugural programme of the Special Newborn Care Unit (SNCU) at District Hospital Dimapur Friday. Going further, Dr. Watikala lamented that most of the government doctors and nurses posted to far flung areas, instead chose to neglect their bounden duties to work in private hospitals. She asked them whether their conscience permitted them to do so? Dr. Watikala asked government doctors who are practising in private hospitals not to avail ‘Non Practising Allowance’ and instead resign from their jobs in order to pave way for many qualified professionals looking for jobs. While lauding the service of NGOs who were providing medical service in the farflung areas, Dr Watikala asked if this was the duty of the NGOs or the appointed doctors and nurses? She also disclosed that during the recent transfer and postings, the department (H&FW) received numerous “unwanted letters” from politicians and NGOs. Dr. Watikala opined that such practices existed
mainly because some within the department wanted to pull strings. The Principal Director reminded that it was impossible to post all doctors and nurses only in Kohima or Dimapur. She urged them not to insist on posting to urban areas only but obediently carry out duties wherever they are posted. Dr. Watikala reiterated that the department would adhere to the government orders and if officers did not want to be posted out of Kohima or Dimapur, then such officers will have to voluntarily resign from service. She also expressed regret over the practice of keeping “proxy nurses” by some of those posted to far-flung areas. Dr Watikala said this was a “shame” for the department that some were carrying out such unethical practices. Encouraging doctors and nurses to rededicate and provide service to the people as their profession demanded, she urged them not to neglect the sick but to cater to the needs of the suffering public. She also expressed appreciation to the efforts of doctors and staff of District Hospital Dimapur in inaugurating Special Newborn Care Unit and encouraged them to continue with the good works. Also speaking in the programme, mission director National Health Mission (NHM) Yankho Kithan expressed the hope that the state government would release funds in time so that projects or schemes could be well implemented in the state.
