on Friday, condemning the June 15 rape and sexual assault of two minors in Tuensang town by one Thunglim Lemba Chang. In Longleng, the protest rally, organized by Phomla Hoichem (Phom Women Organization) and Phom Students’ Conference (PSC), saw mass participation of people from all walks of life. Speaking at the protest rally, Phomla Hoichem president, A. Shamthai Phom, condemned the “beastly and senseless act” and said that committing “barbaric and inhuman crime in broad day light is alien to Naga culture”. She said every right

thinking citizen should raise their voice and condemn such act in strongest term. Shamthai also demanded that responsible authority award “inconsiderate punishment” to the culprit without any prejudice so that justice was delivered to victims and their families. Phomla Hoichem president also extended solidarity with the family of the victims on behalf of the organization.Others who delivered short speeches included Metpong Phom, PSC vice president A.Mane Phom and PPC vice president Tenchem Phom and Chingong Phom. NONGKREM (MEGHALAYA), JUN 23: Government of India has no plans to re-enter into a cease-fire agreement with the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN-K), an official said on Friday. “We have no plans (resigning the ceasefire agreement). Let’s give sometime for things to settle down and it is too early to comment on it,” chairman of the Ceasefire Monitoring Group, D.K. Pathak told journalists here at the Assam Rifles headquarters.

Pathak’s statement is significant following the recent appointment of Khango Konyak as the chairman of the NSCN (K) after the demise of former chief S.S. Khaplang on June 9. Earlier, Nagaland chief minister Dr. Shürhozelie Liezietsu had stated that NSCN (K) chairman SS Khaplang had conveyed his willingness to have dialogue with the Government of India for an early solution to the Naga political problem. Liezietsu also said that the Nagaland government had been sending delegations to meet the NSCN (K)

leadership in Myanmar in recent times to convince the group to re-enter into the peace process with the Indian government to find an early solution to the Naga political problem. However, he said Khaplang passed away before the protracted Naga political problem could be taken forward to its logical conclusion. NSCN (K) faction, abrogated the ceasefire with the Government of India on March 27, 2015, just a month before the truce was up for renewal. The group had signed the peace pact in 2001.

NPF hits back at NPCC, its president DIMAPUR, JUN 23 (NPN): Media & Press Bureau (M&PB) of the NPF has issued a stinging rejoinder to the statement from NPCC which had attacked NPF for declaring support to the NDA candidate in the forthcoming presidential election on July 17,2017. The M&PB slammed NPCC president K. Therie by asking what did he want to prove by continuously attacking NPF president and chief minister Dr. Shürhozelie Liezietsü. NPF said NPCC and Therie have “no moral right to grumble or question” the decision of NPF to maintain the alliance with NDA or another party at the Centre. It said Therie has “absolutely no right” even to question NPF-led DAN gover nment in supporting or not supporting any someone’s presidential candidate. M&PB said NPCC was well aware the NPF had always formed alliance with non-Congress parties since 1977 even before formation of the BJP and that the alliance was “renewed and strengthened in the early party of 2003” with formation of a non-Congress alliance- DAN. M&PB reminded that Therie himself was once minister under DAN and knows the principles of NPF. However, P&MB said Therie now was trying to decide for NPF on whom it should support as president.
