As per the distribution of gender, there are 242 males and105 females. 12 army personnel test positive: Twelve Army personnel of 24 Punjab Regiment, at Jakhama military station tested positive for COVID-19 on Wednesday. Army sources at the garrison confirmed to Nagaland Post that the 12 personnel, who tested positive for COVID-19, had recently returned from leave. The sources also informed that the personnel had travelled by train and also quarantined at several
places (in transit) before being placed at the quarantine centre in the garrison. They were then subjected to COVID-19 tests which later were confirmed as positive. All 12 tested positive for COVID-19 have been shifted to 154 General Hospital, Jakhama military station for further treatment, sources informed. When contacted, an official of the Health & Family Welfare department confirmed to Nagaland Post about the cases. The official said that the department activated contact tracing but none of the personnel had any contact with the general populace. The official acknowledged the cooperation from the army and said it could take some time to get the facts about the travel and track the source of the infection. The official also said that the department was in touch with the army authorities at Jakhama. It was also informed that all the 12 patients were asymptomatic as of 3 p.m. on Wednesday. DIMAPUR, JUN 24 (NPN): Zeliang People’s Organisation Kohima (ZPOK) has clarified that it was not a signatory to the representation submitted to Prime Minister Narendra Modi by 11 tribes seeking deferment of the proposed delimitation exercise in Nagaland. Referring to media reports that the representation was submitted to Raj Bhavan secretariat following a resolution adopted in this regard at a meeting of 14 Naga tribes held at Kohima on June 16, ZPOK president Visa Meru and general secretary Joshua Newmai in a statement said they had attended the meeting, but clearly stated that Zeliang people supported delimitation as solution of Naga political issue and delimitation were totally of different subjects. The duo claimed they had even stated during the meeting that the agenda for stalling delimitation was not required to be deliberated or taken beyond the floor of the house.
NEW DELHI, JUN 24 (PTI): As India recorded the highest single-day jump of nearly 16,000 COVID19 cases, Delhi surpassed Mumbai on Wednesday while the lockdown in containment zones in West Bengal was extended till July 31 and a fresh ‘test, track and treat’ strategy put in place by the Centre to curb the spread of the infection. Use of combination of various tests and making testing widely available to all symptomatic individuals across the country were at the heart of the government’s revised strategy to fight the pandemic that has claimed over 14,000 lives. Delhi, which already is the second worst hit state in terms of coronavirus caseload and fatalities, overtook Mumbai after the number of cases soared by 3,788 to touch 70,390. Mumbai has so far recorded 69,625 cases, according to official figures. DIMAPUR/KOHIMA, JUN 24 (NPN): Nagaland’s COVID-19 tally rose to 347 after 17 fresh cases were reported, including 12 army personnel from Jakhama military station on Wednesday. According to Health & Family Welfare minister S. Pangnyu Phom, the positive cases were detected from 448 samples that were tested. He said 15 patients were from Kohima quarantine centres and two from Zunheboto quarantine centre. All positive cases have been sent to the respective COVID-19 hospitals for treatment.
Further, Pangnyu informed that 7 more patients recovered from COVID-19. He said that 5 were from Dimapur and 2 from Kohima. The recovered patients have been shifted to the COVID care centre. With this, the state now has 199 active cases while 148 have recovered, taking the state’s total tally to 347. As per the severity of symptoms, all 199 active cases are asymptomatic. As per the distribution of the 347 cases by age, there are 4 cases between 0-17 years, 330 cases between 18-44 years, 11 cases

KOHIMA, JUN 24 (NPN): The inaugural of the much awaited Bio Safety Level-2 (BSL-2) laboratory in Dimapur has been preponed to June 27. Earlier, the inaugural programme was scheduled to be inaugurated on June 29, however, due to some official engagement, the date has been preponed to June 27, personal secretary to H&FW minister Pangnyu Phom informed Wednesday. It may be mentioned that the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has already approved the lab which will be functional with six research scientists and six laboratory technicians. NEW DELHI, JUN 24 (NPN): Nagaland was among the few states awarded for their performance under National TB elimination programme 2019. This was declared on Wednesday during the release of the annual TB Report 2020 by Union Health minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan. In the categories of larger states with more than 50 lakh population that won the award-- Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh were awarded as best performing States. In the categor y of smaller states with less than 50 lakh population, Tripura and Nagaland were awarded. In the category of Union Territory, Dadara and Nagar Haveli, and Daman & Diu were chosen as the best performers. Releasing the Annual TB Report via video
conferencing, Dr Vardhan commended the collective efforts of all who were involved in this task. “The Government under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is committed to achieving the SDG goal of eliminating TB in the country by 2025, five years ahead of the Global Target. To align with the ambitious goal, the programme has been renamed from Revised National Tuberculosis Control Program to National Tuberculosis Elimination Program”, he stated. The minister also released a Joint Monitoring Mission (JMM) report, a manual on Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) to TB patients under NIKSHAY system, a Training Module, and the quarterly newsletter NIKSHAY Patrika. The report highlighted the reduction in the number of
missing cases to 2.9 lakh cases as against more than 10 lakhs in 2017. Additionally, the TB notification in the private sector increased by 35 per cent with 6.78 lakh TB patients notified. Dr Vardhan, said that the government was committed to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals of eliminating TB in the country by 2025, five years ahead of the global Target. DIMAPUR, JUN 24 (NPN): In a crackdown on those flouting COVID-19 guidelines, the Dimapur district administration has imposed a fine of Rs.100 on anyone not wearing masks in public places. The amount collected during two days as fines totalled Rs. 13,500. According to DIPR, the deputy commissioner (DC) Dimapur, Anoop Kinchi, informed that the amount is to be deposited in the government treasury . The crackdown against violators of the COVID-19 guidelines comes after the district administration and IPR department had since April, undertaken mass awareness campaign through public address system to inform public to wear masks. It was reported that though more than 90% of the people wore masks, there were however, many such as the highly educated and shopkeepers who continued to flout the guidelines which pose threat to themselves as well as society at large. The DC Dimapur has cautioned that those who flout the guidelines would be fined Rs.100 and have their names and addresses recorded so that stern action can be initiated against them as per Disaster Management Act. Further, the DC reminded people to maintain social distancing and ensure proper hand hygiene.

The machines are part of the ‘Made in India’ ventilators that were issued to various state governments and union territories19. The central government has allocated Rs 2,000 crore for this from the PM-CARES fund. In a tweet, state Health minister, S. Pangnyu Phom thanked Health ministry (@MoHFW_INDIA) “for allotment of 45 new ventilators to combat the COVID19 pandemic.” “The facility will be distributed according to need basis, covering the entire districts of the State. DIMAPUR, JUN 24 (NPN): Northern Angami Youth Organisation (NAYO) has expressed shock and concern over the “anti-social activities” within its jurisdiction while condemning the “sudden, erratic and non sensible irrational judgmental attitude of anti-social individuals”. NAYO president Roko Angami and press secretary Neilie Zumu, warned that “anti-social activities” were not tolerable within its jurisdiction and warned that such activities would be dealt with severely. With partial relaxation of lockdown, NAYO said business community was trying hard “to earn their daily bread as well as cater to the daily essential needs of the people.” However, NAYO said the “peaceful aura” was shattered by actions of “some vested selfish individuals to extort and create more tension”. Further, NAYO lauded all frontline workers for handling the pandemic in a professional manner. It also lauded the men in uniform for their “never ending spirit and sheer determination to maintain peace and protection of citizens.”

Khango-led NSCN (K) clarifies DIMAPUR, JUN 24 (NPN): Khango-led NSCN (K) has clarified that an individual gunned down by Kohima Police in an alleged extortion case and his arrested accomplice near Old MLA Hostel junction Kohima on Tuesday had at no point in time enrolled or involved with the group in any capacity. Khango-led NSCN (K) through its MIP also termed as “completely erroneous” the AIR broadcast “citing SP Kohima as source of information and crediting the victims as belonging to NSCN/GPRN (Khango).” Meanwhile, MIP has stated that the state government on its part “must also seriously contemplate and review the illegal activities including extortions and unofficial collections by state police personnel in various entry-exit gates, traffic points and highways on almost every commercial vehicles and underhand dealings with shady businesses in the state instead of putting onus only on the Naga political groups which in itself is quite hypocritical.” Stating that it does not condone extortion activities, the Khango-led NSCN (K), however, stated that in order to sustain the ongoing Naga political struggle “nominal taxes, contributions and reasonable fund mobilisations are imperative until an amicable political solution is achieved and to this end the NSCN/GPRN is sincerely pursuing the course.” K Y M C
