Doungel had confirmed to media persons in Kohima, that taking suo moto notice of media reports, the services of Pillai as Consultant to DGP Nagaland stood terminated with immediate effect. When contacted by this Reporter over phone the same day, the DGP however explained, that since the department was not the appointing authority, the higher ups will take the call “on the basis of the merit of the case consider even termination”. Dzükuo: SAYO refutes Mao CSOs allegation D I M A P U R , J UN 2 5 (NPN): Initial optimism of warming of relations between Manipur and Nagaland after the BJP-led coalition assumed power, appears to fade as the contentious Dzükuo issue threatens to upset the applecart. Southern Angami Youth Organisation (SAYO) on Sunday took serious note of the allegations made by Mao civil society organizations (CSOs) during the recent meeting with Manipur chief minister, N. Biren Singh that Dzükou valley was encroached upon from Nagaland side In a press note, SAYO president Neisizo Kuotsu said the youth organization held an emergency in this regard, wherein the house also took serious note of the suggestions made by Mao CSOs to construct motorable road upto Dzükou valley, police station, marketing shed for women vendors,

helipad and guest house for tourist at Dzükou valley. SAYO said without consulting the Southern Angamis, the “so called Manipur Nagaland interstate imaginary political boundary line” was arbitrarily drawn by British imperialist when Nagaland was a mere district of Assam. As the actual land owners, it said Southern Angamis never recognized or accepted it. SAYO reiterated that Dzükou valley traditionally belonged to the Southern Angamis from time immemorial and the “fact has never been in doubt or disputed.” Acknowledging this fact, SYAO claimed that “Mao had to retreat and apologized many a times whenever they attempted to encroach into Dzükou area even in recent time.” It also reminded that throughout the ages, the Angamis, particularly the Southern Angamis and the Mao people had been

living together as a family and brothers without any territorial distinction. “Though the Southern Angamis have very little or nothing to gain from Mao side of Manipur. Southern Angamis and Nagas of Nagaland have been very generous to other Nagas from Manipur particularly the Maos,” it added. SAYO said they were even given possession of land and access to various types of trade and commerce without any distinction, even though they were not indigenous inhabitants of Nagaland state. However, SAYO said the gesture was “ruthlessly and aggressively exploited by Maos, thus creating numerous untoward incidents between the hosts and the guests.” In this regard, SAYO has cautioned Maos and its CSOs to desist from any acts of provocation, saying “it may cause farreaching consequences.”

Gov greets on Eid

NEW DELHI, JUN 25 (PTI): Set for a comfortable victory, NDA presidential nominee Ram Nath Kovind may bag over 62 per cent votes but fall short of the 69 per cent votes polled by incumbent Pranab Mukherjee in 2012. With the battle lines drawn in the first-ever Dalit versus Dalit presidential contest, the odds are heavily stacked in favour of the saffron brigade candidate Kovind who is set to get around 7 lakh votes which is around two-thirds of the total 10,98,903 votes of the electoral college. The joint opposition candidate Meira Kumar is likely to bag around 4 lakh votes despite the support of many regional parties like the RJD, traditional rivals the SP and the BSP and the TMC and the CPI-M. Chances of Kovind registering a comfortable win brightened after some major non-NDA parties like the

JD-U, the BJD, the AIADMK, the TRS and the YSRCongress extended their support to him. Aware of its chances in the July 17 presidential election, the opposition now views it as an ideological battle. As per vote projections after some non-NDA parties extended their support to the BJP nominee, Kovind has an assured 6,82,677 votes in his kitty. Kumar on the other hand has 3,76,261 committed votes, which is 34 per cent and one-third of the total collegium vote. This time around, there are around 39,965 votes of fence sitting parties like the AAP, the INLD, the AIMIM and some Independents, who have not yet opened their cards about which candidate to back. Which way this block tilts will mainly depend on the campaign strategy of the contestants of the ruling party and the opposition.

Landowners claim ‘temporary huts’ burnt on June 24 Staff Reporter

D I M A P U R , J UN 2 5 (NPN): Refuting the reports of eight houses being burnt down by miscreants at ‘Model village’, Karbi Anglong on Friday wee hours, the Landowners of Nahorjan village under Karbi Anglong have come forward and claimed that they (the original landowners) had burnt down “temporary hutments” as it was constructed on the “illegally encroached land”. Addressing media persons on Sunday at Circuit House, Dimapur, the landowners claimed that on June 14, it had served six-day deadline demanding that all construction activities in the “fictitiously recognized Model Village” be removed. On the expiry of the deadline, the landowners said in cooperation with the Nahorjan village committee an “eviction drive” was carried out on June 24.

One of the landowners said they wanted to send across a message that the actual landowners existed and so they (encroachers) were agitated. Dismissing reports that properties worth around Rs. 10 lakh was destroyed in the fire, the landowners said only temporary huts were burnt down. “We didn’t torch the houses where people were residing as we did not want any confrontation”, said one of the landowners. The landowners mostly comprising of Nagas claimed that they were engaged in cultivation and farming in the village without any dispute with the Karbi Anglong council for the last 30 years after acquiring lease from the original settlers of Nahrojan village. However, they alleged that the issue started after one person, identified as Augustine Kramsa, had encroach all the land and sold

it to others by manipulating the land pattas in connivance with the then assistant land settlement-cum-revenue office of KAAC. In this regard, the land owners lodged a complaint to protest against illegal encroachment by Augustine. Thereafter, Augustine was summoned by SDM Karbi Anglong, where he had agreed to return all the Nahorjan land in the agreement signed between him and the village committee, claimed the landowners. They further claimed that Augustine failed to keep the promise and continued to allegedly occupy the land, while his clients carried out construction on the encroached land and has constructed more than 700 houses. In this regard, another summon letter was issued by SDM Bokajan, but Augustine failed to turn up. He was again summoned for the third time on April 28, 2017, but failed to turn up.

In the light of the above, the land owners have demanded that all developmental activities by Augustine and parties should be ceased immediately and that the agreement signed between Augustine and the Nahrojan village committee be enforced. They further demanded that the government should come out with a clarification, on the actual landowners, until such time no one should carry out any construction activities in the village. If the demands are not met, the landowners warned that they would be compelled to withdraw the agreement and that the village authority would take appropriate action to recover all the encroached land. They also viewed that the district administration instead of assuring to give protection should evict people of Model village, which was illegally encroached with the help of Augustine. K Y M C
