MOKOKCHUNG, MAR 17 (NPN): Nagaland governor Prof Jagdish Mukhi lauded the people of Nagaland for protecting and preserving their traditional knowledge and value system manifest in their languages, folk dances, food habits, art and culture, etc. Addressing the 5th convocation of Nagaland University (NU) as the chief guest, held at the university’s auditorium (I Ihoshe Hall) on Thursday with vice-
chancellor of Rajiv Gandhi University, Itanagar as a special guest, Mukhi said it was the responsibility of NU to create an enabling ecology through relevant centres of knowledge to promote and preserve the ancient wisdom of Naga people. Mukhi, who is also chief rector of NU, said the convocation was an occasion for graduates and research scholars to receive their degrees and certificates, which they had earned by dint of their hard work. At the same time, he
stressed that it was also a time for them to introspect and ponder over the utility of their degrees and certificates in meeting the challenges of the outside world and grabbing the existing opportunities for bettering their own lives and of those living around them. He asked the graduates if they have acquired out-of-box thinking ability to successfully deal with the contemporary challenges being faced by humanity today. The Governor advised the gathering not to go after those who are not on the right path, even if they are in large number but to learn to walk alone, if they think and feel it will take them to the right destination. He appealed to the graduates to be solution providers, adding that if the knowledge that they had acquired over a period of time had made them democratic in thinking, then they had received proper education (Cont’d on p-8)

(ENCSU) to Higher & Technical Education (H&TE) Department seeking functioning of New Model College, Wakching in Mon district from 2022 session. In a statement, RPP said it was flabbergasted to learn that the degree college remained inoperative even after being inaugurated on February 3, 2021. This kind of obtuse system of functioning of the department had proved to be destructive both for the future of aspiring students as well as for development in the State as a whole, it added. Recognising the potential in terms of prospect for further studies and in creating relief in terms of employment for thousands, RPP said it supported ENCSU’s rightful demand. The party urged H&TE to shun ignorance and take up the matter urgently in order to avoid any unpleasant situations that might arise because of it. It also cautioned H&TE that any form of excuse and delay tactics of the government for its selfish motives would only prove to be rubbing salt to the wounds of Naga people.
